Ottoman Wars: Battles of Otranto 1480 and Chaldiran 1514 DOCUMENTARY
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 жов 2018
- In this animated historical documentary video, we will cover the battles of Breadfield (Câmpul Pâinii 1479), Krbava (1493), Chaldiran (1514) and the siege of Otranto (1480), as the Ottoman Wars both in Europe and Asia are ramping up, this time against Hungary, Croatia, Naples and the Safavids of Ismail I.
Previously in our animated historical documentary series on the Ottoman Wars, we have covered the battles of Kosovo (bit.ly/2JI3F0p), Nicopolis (bit.ly/2zUNRre), Ankara (bit.ly/2uW7r0D), Varna (bit.ly/2JIK2VG), Second Kosovo, Constantinople (bit.ly/2uELWlI), Belgrade, Targoviste and Otlukbeli (bit.ly/2JOBlcQ), Vaslui, Valea Alba (bit.ly/2C9Cm0l) and Skanderbeg's rebellion (bit.ly/2BYMYgW). But the Ottomans continued their expansion in the next decades.

0. Slight mistake with Chaldiran - should be further to the Northeast.
1. Let's talk about Iran. A few of our viewers expressed their concerns that we only portray the losses of this culture. Although it is true, it is not deliberate. If you know the history of Iran, you know that there are many great victories there, yet, details of many of these victories are lost. Ismail I is a good example - he was probably the most important historical figure in Iran since Cyrus and we know that he won at least 4 massive battles, while being outnumbered 2 and 3 to 1, against the Akkoyunlu, Shaybanids, and Shirvanshahs, yet the only detailed battle of his career is Chaldiran. In any case, we will rectify this situation down the line, as the battles of Nader Shah will be covered within this series in 2019.
2. We don't care about the ethnicities of the historical figures. Ismail, for instance, had Turkic, Greek and Georgian heritage, but that doesn't matter. He considered himself the Shahanshah of Iran, and so he should be accepted as such. The easiest example is the British royal dynasty. While they are of the German descent, they are British.
3. Breadfield has a different depiction in some of the sources, as they claim that the Hungarians stacked their center and that allowed them to break the Ottoman center. When the sources are conflicted like that, you often need to use logic and common sense. In this case - we know that the Ottomans stopped raiding Transylvania for a few decades, as they lost most of their border troops in the area. But if their loss came due to the fact that their center was smashed, then their wings would have been able to retreat with a relative ease, and they had the akinjis (light raiders) on the wings. Again, that doesn't mean that the other source is invalid.

Tradition is not the worship of ashes, but the preservation of fire. You are a fire as well, and as long as you burn you are still here. Nobody can give you more death than what you've been told to prepare for in your life. Nothing in this world can impact you more than you've already been. Stare it in the face, you are the fire and you still have shit to burn. (these videos lol)
Good luck, just because you're homebound doesn't mean you're not stronger than many people.
@Çamaşır Suyu Well it's better than being sad.

Ottoman history is one of my favorite - a seemingly invinciable army on the verge of taking Europe. Makes for great content!
Flash Point History ottoman muslim
more than one hundred cannons..Dont this say nothing to you as to which side was really highly spirited and strong. I personally believe ottoman army was just nothing more than a mass of ants for safavids if they hadnt any cannons provided by venetians and other european powers
@Pasdar why?
@Pasdar ja ja sure let's have erdogan force everyone under his thump now ain't that fun
@Pasdar Dude do you really think the ottomans attacking would have meant that everyone is living in peace right after that? No racism? The ottomans committed genocide while they were attacking europe. But I mean it wasnt members of your religion getting slaughtered by them.

It’s amazing how powerful the Ottoman Empire was and how long they held it before World War I
A lot more coming
Dennis Cleary you will be amazed by Holy Roman Empire
But it wasnt a dynasty
It was symbol of Christianity for over a millennium
@@umaransari9765 holy roman empire wasn't much significant compare with ottoman..
After the fall of western part, it was much more weaker and beaten by persian in the Middle of 5th century, however though it regained its land in the early 6th century, all its Eastern and southern Mediterranean land were conquered by the rashidun army..
From 6th to 10th century it was only with anatolia and balkan and after beated by seljuk and from 11th to 14th century it was limited in constantinople and some aside state
And though it started weaking after 1683,it was a major power before the crimean war...
@Bitola Otuken , no, the Persian Empire was of comparable size and they collapse twice in just a few years, once during Alexander, another during the Rashidun invasion.
The Ottomans really were masters of early gunpowder warfare. Time and time again they utilize gunpowder weapons effectively, either to secure a devestating victory or to turn the tide of battle.
@Bingo Duff Holy shoot, what the frick are you talking about
He's just talking about Ottoman Army's proficiency with gunpowder weaponry and you bring "white victims" including to those of those pesky Cosmopolitan white liberals and "Islamo-Nazis" (or whatever the frick you want to entails)? Are your brain cortex really alright in the first place?
@Bingo Duff it's simple , the Islamic caliphate or state or whatever you want to name it spread through war and conquest but Islam itself as riligon spread through many ways like trade , enter marriage , forced conversion was very rare and it was never a state policy for any Islamic state , for example the Levant didn't become majority muslim until the 12th century, Persia didn't become majority muslim until 3 centuries after the arab conquest.
the myth of forced conversion is a load of crap that's being spread by crazy right wingers and white nationalists using outdated sources written by orintalists with a superiority complex during the colonial era .
by the way comparing muslim conquest with colonialism is dumb and using what happend in otranto to bash Islam is even dumber .
It's usually the one how acuses all those how disagree with him of being racist is the racist himself .
you should relax dude and get educated by searching through unbiased work done by actual historians not bigoted right wingers with zero qualification on the subject but their own biased view
@Bingo Duff actually I'm not a leftist I had the far left as mush as I hate right because I'm an islamist (not a terorists) .
what evil did you expose you moron all what you did was yaping about the usual insecure right wing conspiracy theoriey about haw the left hate the white men and blames everything on him and all of that crap , you didn't discuss any of my argument you just jumped on and associated me with the far left .
@Bingo Duff what long worthless paragraph , well guess what I'm from Algeria and if you know wher that is you would know that I have nothing to do with antifa since I'm a muslim and I get my history from unbiased and well documented sources so don't worry about me .
my country witnessed both the French colonialism that killed 8 million of my people and sacked thousands of villages during the span of 130 years no conquering nation in the history of north Africa did that much damage , and after the independence we wher filled by socialists who bankrupted us and and caused a 10 years civil war that claimed the life of 250000 people because they didn't like it when islamist won the elections (so much for the so called democracy) .
European colonialism is thing and it happend and caused a lot of damage and pointing it out is not racism and you are right every nation committed atrocities but the europeans took it to a hole New level.
@Bingo Duff my ancestors enslaved 1.5 million from the 16th to the 18th century while the frensh killed 8 millions of us how morally bankrupted to compare the enslavement of less then 2 millions to what can be considered a genocide that claimed the life of 8 million people, by the way when the French conquered Algeria the piracy was already stoped since it started to decline in the early 19th century and our naval fleet was already destroyed in the battle navarino 1827 which means the barbary states wher not a threat anymore .
as for the American slaves , the Mediterranean at that time was under our control and the refused to pay the trebuitte for passage so they got what was coming to them , by the didn't the Americans defeat us in 1815 which means we are even .
by the way you have to work on better ways to justify genocide .
Ottoman wars was awesome
Glad you are enjoying our videos. :-)
Everything about the Ottomans is awesome.
There's nothing awesome about the Ottomans post-18th century.
it is impressive how their empire grew and how they fought many tough battles and how they influence history.
Well, it depends on perspective. I am glad that the janissaries was abolished and was made cannon fodder in the Auspicious Incident in 1826, the modernization of the state, the factories and schools established, the founders of Turkey was Ottoman generals, pupils in the schools and military academies in the Ottoman Empire.
Ottoman Army was more organized than most army's at that time. This is the reason they have a big Win ratio.
more on that, they used gun powder and technology very efficiently.
and they use evey time their numnbers
Dont forget the slave children
@@aluapzurc2 Yea but it's just %10 of it's army
aluapzurc2 they werent slaves they were christian boys taken yes it was by force but they were treated like their own child and were in better conditions than they were back with their family which was a poor and painful life. And they werent all had to become soldiers. They were selected considering their abilities. Like the strong big children were soldiers where as the smart ones were selected in the higher ranks. They were taught everything like Turkish , Islam and other things. They only couldnt be one thing and that was the sultan. They could of even became the vezir as there was. Must say as these boys were "yeniçeri" and they were the closest to the sultan and they all loved the sultan so even if they were slaves they could of easily killed the sultan and smash the empire.
I think "Ottoman Wars" series is the best series.

Europe: France, the Ottomans are gaining ground in Europe and threatening to take over the Christian world. Can we put aside our differences to fight this common enemy?
Us French: Nah, I'll rather ally with them.
France was surrounded by the Habsburgs from every side, so it seems logical they would prioritize their safety over "religious" conflicts.
Yes, I definitely agree, and I understand why they did. But it also makes you wonder how France planned to deal with the Ottomans once they had weakened the Habsburgs.
Probably the way France inevitably dealt with the Hapsburgs: succession crises and wars for independence.
+This is Barris! They wouldn't have to. Even if the Ottomans took Vienna, they would never be able to come close to threatening france since they'd be too far from Constantinople.
This is Barris! The turks today are allied to Russian orthodox against globalisation

Could do some videos on other Turkish empires like the great seljuk or ghaznavid empire who's great king mahmud ghaznavi raided ancient india 17 times and never lost a battle he was equal to Alexander and timur. But people in the West never heard of him
If Mahmud Ghaznavi was alive right now and you'd ask him, he'd probably tell you that he considers himself Persian than Turkish. He's famous in history for being obsessed with Persian culture, poetry, literature, customs, etc.
Hhaanvic empire was persian.
also the Ottoman empire might have been established by a ruler of supposed turkic origins like Osman I, but he was caucasian looking, he established a multi ethnic and multireligious empire and only the Ottoman identity was used, never the term '' turk'', actually it was considered offensive.
For example , 4 out of 5 main families in the Ottoman Empire, in the first 100 years of existence were Christian converts.
48 Grand Veziers were Albanian
@@gjinbueshpata4239 Thats what albanians claim, but everybody in that time-era called the ottoman empire, the Turkish empire. The term ottoman empire is created by historians just like the term byzantine empire for the east-Roman empire.
The army was mostly Turkish or at least turkic of ethnicity, except the jannisaries who only had Turkish culture and language teached to them but were ethnically diverse. The upper-class of the Turkish-Empire called the state: "Devleti - Aliye"
@@gjinbueshpata4239 And what 4 of 5 main families do you mean? There is only 1 main family in the empire and this is the (atleast in the beginning) turkic ottoman dynasty. The more mixed the rulers got, the more incompetent they also became, the first 10 ottoman sultans were all very competent and not that mixed yet.
@@amirhedayati8091 So why he dont know even persian ?? and why he insulted by Firdevsi (ferdowsi) as ''Melik-tâzî-guyend'' (Ruler who speak Barbaric)

I am so hyped for this series. Great to know the details of warfares between the Safavids and the Ottomans despite some degrees of ambiguity due to conflicting sources. Before watching this video, I know some famous monarchs of the Ottomans. Yet I am shocked that some of them made their ways to the throne in a bloody way in similar manners as their nomadic ancestors. Having a succession crisis while fighting external wars at the same time was such a feat.
We really need to make a video explaining the Ottoman succession. :-)
True. I know eu4 just oversimplified the Ottoman succession. At least Ottomans don't automatically generate and appoint a monarch in real life.
The reason of it because the Ottoman Empire was the most organized in the World at that time. Army's discipline and morale was high even they did not affected by the throne fights in the State.

Great Video as usual 😊. here are some notes about the battle of Çaldıran:
- it is really hard to find numbers of the troops because the sources are confusing and sometimes the numbers are fantastic. but the similarities are the composition of the army. the safavid's have cavalry and the ottoman's 60 to 70 cavalry and the rest infantry and artillery.
- şah ismail and selim are both underrated military commanders
- you never told that the ottomans use war wagons very since 1448 by the battle of Kosovo until the early 1600s. And selim revolutionized the top arabacılar (artillery transport and war wagons) corps by mixing artillery and war wagons in the center in front of the janissaries and behind he azab screen with cavalry flanks.

Yep, those will be covered.
Medieval and Renaissance-era chivalry may stand at the foundations of today's West liberalism and humanitarianism... but holy shit, did they _not_ help in battle. And it's not like the Ottomans were anything new: the disastrous performance of the Polish and Hungarian armies against the Mongols several centuries prior was primarily due to the former's "Do you want to live forever? CHAAAAARGE!" attitude. Had anyone just calmed the fuck down and analyzed the enemy's tactic to learn how to counteract it, hundreds of thousands of lives would have been saved.
