I'm always surprised how so many people still under estimate the VW's Type-1 engines potential. Yes air-cooled VW's sound just like this, and yes with modification and fine balancing to the stock rotating assembly and valve train they can spin much faster then 4500 RPM. Correct me if I am wrong but if following classic rules you can expect, I'd say tops, 120~130 HP from a modified 1600.
Did any of these VW's have the Subaru engine swap? Or are all these the standard air cooled engines? They sound more amazing then an air cooled standard engine should sound

the standard type 1s dont rev much past 4500 and dont have a merged exhaust collector, all of these rev higher and have one, making them sound like a 4 cylinder and not a gokart esque thumper

I am very surprised they are using 1302 and 1303 instead of the standard beetles
They are much better for rally, better front suspension on McPherson struts, 1600cc engines, better gearbox and independent rear suspension

VW flat 4s always sound good at high RPMs, probably also have tuned exhausts and headers.
