Don't forget SSDI as an additional source of income that many disabled vets miss out on. Jimmy Carter required military to start paying in to Social Security to prevent indigent Military veterans trying to survive on mil disability retirement. It is a life changer. Don't get discouraged, go through the process. States routinely deny vets applying for SSDI, my denial gave the reason of "you have other sources of income". Ironically that is something they are not allowed to consider in their determination of disability. I went through three denials then sued for my benefits. It was a hands down win in court with previously having VA 100 percent P&T

I did 31 yrs in the Air Force Reserves and documented every ache and pain I had and took all of my civilian doctors notes for any treatment and it was then reviewed by a military doctor and put into my official military medical records. The VA said nothing about what status I was in when I had my C&P exam. The young kids need to learn to play the long game and document, document and document. Thanks for sharing more info with us.
20yrs Army here, and I did the exact same thing due to some advice given to me by an old white Vet from the VFW. If I ever run into that guy again, I’m buying him a whole keg💯😂
Travis, I just got my 100% P&T as a VA claims pro member. I did not know you are a doctor. I am also in the Liberty Doctoral program where you graduated. Congrats. I live in Maryland and served in the Navy, Air Force, and Army 1981 - 2004.
Initially was given 90% which I had for 4 years. I recently appealed one of my ratings last year and was awarded 100% P and T. God is SO GOOD. I didn't even know this was a thing until after my rating. It makes a big difference. Like everyone said on here, what ever you do, DONT GIVE UP! Blessings to you! - 6 Year AF Vet
I think its great that you guys are helping Vets figure these things out. I had nobody in my corner whatsoever and it took me 13 years to get my rating. I think I'm 100 P and T but I'm unsure TBH. I know they screwed me with my CRSC backpay (only gave me 2 years worth) and probably other ways too. Vets need help with these things. As the VA said to me, "they are not there to help me with my claim". HRC literally said I was "lucky" to be getting 70% Army disability rating and to "stop complaining". Yeah...I'm lucky I broke my back and had my life ruined. Sure. The point is that for all the benefits available the govt doesnt want us to have them and actively fights to prevent us from getting them. The DAV was utterly useless and gave me no help at all. The county VA Rep tried to sabotage my CRSC claim. Help is often not help at all. All that said, a word of caution. I keep hearing you three say things like, "win the lottery", "holy grail", "top of your game" etc. Look, it seems really garrish to me to say stuff like that. We get these ratings because we were injured, sickened, or wounded in service. These arent prizes. Its compensation. I live in indescribable, permanent pain that will never go away. While my kids are going to college more or less free (its not actually free even with 100% tuition assist in our State) if I hadnt been injured and lost my career I'd be making a hell of a lot more money, retired and be onto a 2nd career making 6 figures easily because of what I was trained to do. That cant ever happen because of things the Army did that had terrible reprocussions for my health. I didnt win anything. These benefits simply are not prizes. I know you dont mean anything by it but treating them like prizes is why I think politicians do the same. They act as if we are lucky when we eventually get through this ridiculously difficult process and finally get the help we need. Thanks again for helping people. Wish I had known about you guys years ago. I won my case alone and thats the problem. I had to win in an adversarial process that should not be adversarial. I didnt do this to myself after-all. It happened serving our country. You'd think they'd help make it right. But they dont.
We're glad to hear that you're getting the benefits you deserve but sorry to hear the process was difficult. You're definitely not alone in your frustration with the VA disability process. If you're wondering about your disability status, you can log in online to double check if you're 100% P&T or call the VA disability benefits hotline at 800-827-1000
@@VAClaimsInsider so I just got an annual status letter and it says I'm 90% service connected VA. I was upgraded to 100% due to unemployability. However, it also says Permanent and Total due to service connected disabilities: YES. Is that any different than what you are discussing here? As a side, I was given 10c status by the Army (did not finish 20 years) and retired at 70%. So, even though the VA pays me at 100% rate they deduct it from my Army retired pay so I only get a few hundred from the Army. Its also tax-free though. I do get CRSC at 90%. When they paid me the CRSC they basically gave me only 2 years of back pay though. The Audit was ridiculous. Some months they owed me $700, some $200, some $1k and many nothing even though my pay didnt change and when I asked them why they told me it wasnt their job to explain and if I thought they were wrong I had to tell them why. It made no sense at all. I think they screwed me out of 3 or 4 years of CRSC back pay.
DAV is my representative. And he was totally useless. I did my entire case by myself uploaded evidence and even had to correct things that DAV screwed up. So I got 100% pnt. For bladder cancer pact act Camp Lejeune

Reading the comments and I feel bad. I have been out the military since 2003, finally filed Oct 18, 2023. December 29, 2023 rated 100% P & T. All praises to God! I’ve been scared to file because of people in my head telling me how hard it would be but I took a leap of faith.
I am 100% P&T i applied in 1982 and was denied for the reason of shirking. So i went over 40 years until 2years ago an organization in oklohoma helped me get my bennies last year. But i wish i would have gotten this back in 82 because an education or the monetary assistance would have helped me so much. But i am blessed to have this now at my age. God Bless you all for the help you do.
Got out in feb 9 2022 and got my 100% P&T 2 months later. Did it all on my own. Just make sure u have all your records in order and make sure all your exams are within a year. Easy as pie 🥧
Retired in Virginia USMC 1984-1998 active, 1999-2017 Reserves. VACI is the real deal as I was stuck at 60% for the longest of time trying to do this on my own. Started at 30% got to 60% then became stuck. Got with you guys then got bumped up to 90%. By my own fault I was living in denial that I had a mental health issues (SSD & PTSD) that was rated 100% by itself. Thanks to VACI they got me there to 100% P&T. All in all I would give it all away if I could live a pain free life and be at peace.
As a Vietnam Veteran I didn't apply for almost 40 years. I applied because my VA psychiatrist and therapists kept yelling at me. I finally got 100% the first time. Five years later they reduced the rating for the fuck of it, but I still got permanent 70% with 100% benefits. A lot of VA shrinks should be digging ditches and some should be given mansions in Heaven.

I finally got P&T 5 years after retirement, but I did it the hard way. I have one MH at 70%, one disability at 20% and 19 or so at 10%. All I know is the additional 10% things kept accumulating until I broke into 100% P&T. Kind of a slog but worth it. Only had one C&P exam where I had a break down. Now I have trauma from that so thanks VES…
For Chapter 35 education benefits for one of my kids, she gets $1200ish a month. Once they get the benefits, they are supposed to drop off your monthly dependent amount. And lots of states have scholarships for dependents of 100P&T that cover the costs of tuition of public college.
Navy vet here...i got out 2012. Did 14 years and last month right before my birthday i got 100% PT with one year back pay which was very nice! I got out with 30% and fought the VA for 10 years to finally get in the hundo club. I had over 80K student loans wiped out, pay no more property taxes on my home, got my handicap placid, got my I.D. retirement card, military star card to shop at exchanges online and the list goes on. If i can tell any veteran, dont give up, no means not yet, educate yourself and fight like a pitbull...lock on the Va and dont let go until u get what u want. Also dont miss exams and if u need to hire an attorney with a very good reputation in dealing with Mike Tyson aka Va

Yes, your 100 percent VA disability rating can be reevaluated: If your disabilities have improved, your rating should be lowered. If your disabilities have stayed the same, your rating should stay the same. If your disabilities have worsened, your rating should be increased.

I have been battling the VA system since 2013. I filed for Ischemic Heart disease at that point, but as a blue water sailor, agent orange diseases were not covered at that point. Finally, in January 2020, blue water sailors were awarded presumed agent orange exposure benefits. I was at 60% Ischemic heart disease, 30% hearing loss, and 10% tinnitus. Combined 80%. Now I finally was rated TDIU 100% P&T back to 2020. Plus special monthly compensation. So I'm at 100 P&T for mental issues, but I also filed for other conditions related to that same case. Those still have pending exams and ratings. Are you guys saying I should just drop those claims to protect the mental rating of 100%? How would I even do that? They already scheduled me for an exam. I don't have anything to prove, I just want to keep my rating.
There's always a chance that you could be re-evaluated for your connected conditions, and some conditions need to be re-evaluated every so often. If you legally, morally, and ethically deserve your rating, it is highly unlikely they'll decrease your rating.

Can you use the student loan forgiveness program after you hit 100%p&T? Im a graduate student and I will be running out of GI bill before i'm done so I wanted to cover the back end with loans if they can be forgiven in my specific situation. Thanks!
You don’t get loan forgiveness for 100% VA Disability, unfortunately. You do get it for being disabled and unable to work. You go through NelNet for most forgiveness requests but you are subject to asset monitoring for 3 years

If you are already 100% P&T we advise not to rock the boat too much. You're already receiving the maximum amount of benefits and compensation available.
My bane of my va disabilty existence, was probably my c & p exam. Now, my experience is back than was and my examiner even stated this, I was speaking too fast and she was having issues keeping up with what I was saying and the system keeping up with her. Which, prior to my finally meeting with my appeal hearing lawyer we discussed the c & p exam in great depth. It was discovered, my examiner vastly misquoted what I spoke about and also I wouldn't say twisted what I said but quoted in a way that misconstrued the facts. If you're going towards for your first c & p exam....I would stress speaking to them, slowly and keep the facts accurate but simple. Enough that your examiner and the va will have clear and accurate picture of you and your disability/disabilites.
If you're awarded VA permanent and total disability, your decision letter will likely have a P&T status box checked, but not always. The VA notifies you of P&T status in different ways depending on the regional office. Another sign is if your decision letter says you have zero medical exams scheduled
I just got to 100% p&t. The VA currently has me talking to a counselor, psychologist, and alcohol counselor. Should I keep taking to them now that I'm 100? If I shouldn't be, how to I end it?

I picked up one nugget, from my UA-cam video. It took me from 30% to 100% PT, in less than 30 days.
BOOM! Thank you for sharing!
We're glad you were able to get the benefits you deserve! Joe R, thank you for your service and for tuning in! Glad to have you here!
Reading the comments and I feel bad. I have been out the military since 2003, finally filed Oct 18, 2023. December 29, 2023 rated 100% P & T. All praises to God! I’ve been scared to file because of people in my head telling me how hard it would be but I took a leap of faith.
Congrats! I seperated in dec 2022 filed initial claim 3 weeks later. My CnP exams got scheduled this week. 18 months of back pay will be nice

Retired last year after 22 years in the Coast Guard and just got my 100% P&T rating
Got out in feb 9 2022 and got my 100% P&T 2 months later. Did it all on my own. Just make sure u have all your records in order and make sure all your exams are within a year. Easy as pie 🥧
We're glad to hear it was easy for you to get your benefits!
BOOM! Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're happy to hear you're getting what you have earned and DESERVE.
Never give up my fellow veterans.
That's right!
I just received my 100% permanent and total evaluation granted
Congratulations!
USAF 1969 - 1975, Southeast Asia, P&T Hundo Club Charter Member. Only took me 27 years to get my T&P IU, but I got it in 2007. Formerly in South Dakota, now in Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. BTW, all $162K of my graduate school loans were forgiven, and the forgiveness is NOT taxable.
We're so glad to hear you're getting the benefits you deserve! 💯
Was 40%, 60%, 90 % ! Took 10 years to get my 💯 % P&T tankful I finally received it ! Thanks to the DVA ! They really Help me ! 🇺🇸
Good stuff! Congratulations!
21 years after 7 denials, 8 FOIAs denied went from 0 to 60 to 90 then P&T. Navy 99-04
We are happy to hear you're finally getting what you rightfully deserve and have earned!
Retired Navy. Virginia Beach. 100% temporary, prostate cancer. 40% permanent for other things.

For Chapter 35 education benefits for one of my kids, she gets $1200ish a month. Once they get the benefits, they are supposed to drop off your monthly dependent amount. And lots of states have scholarships for dependents of 100P&T that cover the costs of tuition of public college.
Virginia at 90% they pay for 4 years at all public colleges

So I just got granted 100% permanent and total for bladder cancer related to The Pact act Camp Lejeune. What it says in the review letter is that I will get a review in six months to see if the cancer is gone and still get compensated if I have any residuals. Such as incontinence or Renal issues.
Yes, your 100 percent VA disability rating can be reevaluated:
If your disabilities have improved, your rating should be lowered.

Now the battle continues with the VA to get TDIU benefits back to 2013 when I first filed for Ischemic Heart disease.
Thanks for your very informative video.

My husband served in army air, first Calvary , door gunner in Huey helicopter., l970 & 71. I currently am trying to get him some compensation for bladder cancer. He receives currently 10% for hearing loss and 10% PTSD. Have reached out to our county agent without much help from him, i have turned to our local legion. Is there anything else you can recommend?
Agent orange. Pretty sure bladder cancer is on that list.
My father was also a door gunner during that same time. David Williford
I realize bladder cancer has been added to the list of things caused by agent orange, but since there are a whole lot of people waiting to get compensated for this, i am wondering if there is a way to expedite the situation even though he is not terminal,, thank the good Lord!

Correct!
Army 1997-2017 started at 90 percent in 2017 it took me 6 years to hit 100 P&T.. Glad I didnt give up
You deserve it! Happy to hear this!

Great advice! It's also helpful for some of our vets to bring notes so they don't forget anything they want to say.
Also secretly rec them to make sure you can prove you said X,Y,Z TRUST me it helps
I am 100% ptsd. How do I find out if it’s p & t or any other type of 100%? Not sure where to find this out.
I sure hope you kept up with your treatment.
One thing I noticed in my travels on trying to understand getting to 100% is that there's very little info out there on getting a 100% P & T for Ménière’s Syndrome. Work in the Air Force is easy? You’re crazy man. My job was brutal, I was medically retired at 14 years. I served in Alaska, Nevada, Afghanistan, Japan and Texas. I was a flighline armament systems specialist, and it was absolutely brutal work. Some people in the Air Force have cake jobs but anyone on the flight line works like a slave.
