This man is national treasure if you are a car guy. if you enjoy building motors this man is like the pied piper, I would be like a sheep if I were ever to sit in a classroom with him. he is well spoken and knows his shit. I find him fascinating to listen to. I wish I was in this man's neck of the woods, bcuz honestly, if you like playing with race cars nothing, and I mean NOTHING is better than having a machinist who knows his shit and is trustworthy to help guide you thru the process of making choices about the building process when it comes to motors. period.
The amount of knowledge I am learning for this channel is crazy! Love this guy! Was looking at doing a 383 build and thought anything but forged was junk. Turns out I don't need forged for mild strip and street use. The hypereutectic will work just fine. 👌🏼
These videos absolutely rock. Please continue this series as well as finishing off that 289 build, when you have a new block and the time of course. Thanks and keep the good videos up.
I’m very glad I found your channel prior to my build. I’m also upgrading my 355 stock sbc to a stroker in my 3rd Gen Camaro. It’ll be my first go at an engine rebuild so this newbie greatly appreciates you passing along the knowledge and tips.
@@Myvintageiron7512 You caution against trusting a “balanced” stroker kit because some companies/manufacturers aren’t as accurate in their tolerances. Is Summit a company you’d recommend for a kit? Thank you for any advice.
Thank you for your time and effort. While at times, way more in depth than I predict I'll ever go, the upside is with your videos, I have an idea what to expect, how to plan and most valuable to me is when I'm having someone do this and paying them I know some of the process so I can keep from those extra add on Kanooder valve, head light fluid, pipe stretcher charges that pop up so thank you
I'm currently 6 weeks away from writing my journeyman's exam so in class now were tearing down our engines and rebuilding them (I'm doing a V6 out of a 2007 Buick Enclave lol, would love to do a V8 like this but for todays new techs we obviously have to learn with all the modern stuff of haha), your videos are very interesting and full of useful information. Its great study! lol
I myself would watch 2 hours of die grinding but that is the kind of nut I am. I love this kind of stuff. I understand mistakes. I have made many. Case point, push in Chevy head studs, big solid cams. Youth and inexperience, bent push rods and very steep gears in a daily driver to boot. To make it short great V-log. I think of the best improvements over the years, heart shape and quench and just head improvement overall. Are you going to do a port V-log? Thanks for the detailed build. BEST OF LUCK FROM SOUTH FLORIDA...
My 2000 silverado with a nearly 300 thousand mile LM7 has piston slap on every cold start since I bought it fifteen years and tens of thousands of miles ago. I just let it warm up a bit and take it easy for a few minutes. Buddy of mine had a WS6 trans am years ago and would crank it up on cold winter mornings and take off full throttle. I told him that it wasn't good for the engine but he insisted it ran so much better cold.
Great videos, just watched your Cam spec sheet video on identifying and understanding cam numbers. Very useful. Hoping to do my first build soon and all your videos are helpful.
I just saved a 1980 Z28 Camaro from the crusher that was beat to death and put out in a salvage yard. Going to do a 93 octane 383 build in it. Not going to get crazy. The information here, especially about the balancing, will be incredibly valuable. If I can make 450 flywheel on it i'll be happy. I want it to be reliable.
good video--good info. I will use the hyper pistons for my LT-1 350 (1994) when i get her rebuilt next year. Still thinking, keep her the same bore and stroke or bring her up to a stroker motor, 383 and LT-4 cam. Chevy Police Intercepter.
I've run hypers in my dirt cars for years to 6-6500rpms with no problems. Of course as stated in th 1st vid a great balancing job goes a long way. Also piston slap sounds nothing like a knock really. It is a very unique sound as you said. Nice vids here. I've had 383s built for me and built my own 350s and 400s, but never my own 383. So I'm hoping these will help med get it right from the start.
The best factory engine is the 170 slant 6. it was designed from the ground up to be a engine that gets good gas mileage and still has enough power to get you from here to there. It's no hot rod, but will last a million miles easy. It's also a under square design which is why it's that way. They are well worth the history read. The 225 still has the longevity but is missing the mileage. It's a over square design. (it's also a bean counter engine, so go figure. Not a bad engine, but not as good as the 170)
Im getting ready to rebuild my engine. I would like to build a 383 and have been looking at the 383 kits from summit. Do you have any recommendations as far as heads, cam, the actual kit itself. I would like to get around 500 horses. Thanks...
more great information. the more I whatch of this build the more I want to start over with the one I built flying by the seat of my pants. I can't believe I've gotten over 5k miles out of it without it flying apart. Probably because I rarely rev it over 5k rpm. I did do some things right so far. I bought the right rotating assembly pre balanced but I didn't recheck it for acuressy.
I'm thinking of building a 383 but I have one question. The 350 that I have has a two piece rear main seal. I would like to put a one piece seal on it if possible. Is that something I can do? Also what brands do you recommend for a street stop third gen Camaro that This 383 will be in?
I been watching the videos on this 383 build over and over I have a .30 sbc 4blt m , I want to go Stroker street motor pump gas I have a new set of cast heads iron eagle 215cc can you shoot me in the right direction on parts to get to be able to get the most hp with what I have I want to start ordering parts just don’t know which ones to order that will work to get her greatly and give me the best performance
People always talk about pump vs race gas. Without differentiating between regular and premium pump gas, and the various octane numbers that different kinds of race gas can have, this doesnt mean anything to me. What kind of pump gas? 87 octane? 91, or 93? 100 octane race gas? 110? Huge difference.
thinking of getting a balanced rotating assembly from skip whiteperformance. to build up my 355 in my olds.any one out there dealt with this company ?thanks guys keep building them!!!🎅
Longer stroke big bump in low and mid range torque in addition to the horsepower up top. I used to have a 383 in my iroc and much more noticeable torque. compared to my old 350 formula even with a mild cam.
Hi I had a question, I’m building my first 383 and didn’t realize it was bored over .030 already . I had already ordered the pistons for it so I just had it honed. After honing I check bore size and realized piston clearance is going to be around .003 . Is it ok to run that much on speed pro hypereutectic pistons ? Appreciate anyones imput.
Have a question I have a 74 nova I want to build a 383 its a street but I also want to race it I want a 383 with 475 HP to 500 HP was wondering with piston slap does that hurt a stock block like over time it will destroy my bottom end I saw a forged set for 1500 bucks and it has a forge crank and everything information would be grateful.
You forgot to mention a "HUGE" advantage with the cast and hypereutectic pistons is a much shorter engine warm up time. With no piston slap you can run the engine for 1 to 2 minutes then drive away. Then the engine warms up faster and puts out less emissions.
You couldn't explain to the customer what was going to happen? I would have explained it to him very clearly what forged pistons were going to lead to and made him sign a wavier and liability release that the engine was going to knock and he was not going to like it. But hey kudos to you getting paid for doing the job twice and getting a free set of forged pistons.
I sit and watch like I'm back in shop class .I take notes ,and I feel silly about it, but I have learned a lot, thank u

Outlaw Mercenary agree 100%
Two whole videos of talking seems like a lot but the info was excellent...much appreciated
This is a great series of vids....nice work
I used to have a 383
in my old iroc. Great torque lot's of fun Awesome videos thanks for taking the time. I am enjoying watching these.
This guy is a fucking genuine genius. He explains everything perfectly and precisely. He’s like Yoda.

what an amazing video, the information on forged pistons, the examples, just awesome. Thank you and please keep making videos!!
Honestly I wouldn't mind two hour videos of clearencing
I love watching his videos give you plenty of information on what type of work you want done with out wondering on what it takes to get it done
Dude, this is the kind of day before I am looking for since I'm going to start my first engine build. Thanks for these videos.
Thank you for your time and effort. Absolutely EXCELLENT channel.
You hit all the important stuff, in an easily understandable way.
Thank You...
You remind of my Mechanic Shop teacher in high school.
Another awesome video I'm glad you're doing this series
skip white performance is good company I ordered my stroker kit balanced and everything was dead on "thumbs up"
what a great story, I love your channel, Cheers
Thanks for taking the time to do these vids

Your videos are great i learn something new every time.
I would love to watch the machining too. If you wouldnt mind please make a video about it, thanks
Great job on the video, we are lucky to have such an awesome wealth of information from an automotive machinest!
Man I love how indept you are
Learning a great deal with your videos, thanks and keep it going!

Wow, what a wealth of information, thanks for sharing your knowledge!
How much horsepower can those hypereutectic pistons handle if its just a naturally aspirated motor? No nitrous or anything? These vids are great

Hi , Mahle is pronounced Molly. Great video.
Love the series? Would love to drop my 350 engine off. Are you based on the east coast?
Great series , Thanks !
I agree with piston choice hyper are good enought for the the road
Thanks for the education!
You my friend, are a badass.

For my K5 blazer I would not go forged pistons reason being it’s an off-road vehicle and I have a high school parking pass
To build a 406 or 383 chevy's what's the difference in cost in your opinion? Would cooling be a factor for the street on the 406 chevy?
Great videos! We'll presented
Picking up what your laying down brother.
Great Videos thanks
Mahle pistons are made in Stutgartt Germany, and the correct pronunciation is Maarle.
What would you recommend for a 383 sbc stroker with a supercharger?
Thank you
I’m looking into building my 350 into a 383. Would using double hump head be a bad choice ?
Depending on what you are wanting your engine to do, If you have them, they are ok. Much better out there for cheap though. I put vortecs on mine
Would you recommend hyper pistons in a 450hp/tq street 350?
Good info, thanks.
Any chance the cylinder walls will wear faster with forged pistons because of the piston slap in your experience?
maybe a little but nothing to worry about
question here. would 10:1 compression ratio with cast iron heads, be ok on premium pump gas?
thinking of getting a balanced rotating assembly from skip whiteperformance. to build up my 355 in my olds.any one out there dealt with this company ?thanks guys keep building them!!!🎅
What are the performance benefits of stroking an engine?
Longer stroke big bump in low and mid range torque in addition to the horsepower up top. I used to have a 383 in my iroc and much more noticeable torque. compared to my old 350 formula even with a mild cam.
Early zz4 had Pistons slap or knock lol
i had subscribe to u . u know u stuff
Where would you buy a kit like this
I’d actually like to see the clearancing video!! lol
Another nice vid
And I would also watch all of the machining
dude..........you are fuuuuuuuukkkkiiinnnn awesome!!!! lool

yes .003 is fine
Awesome
Why is video 3 and 6 gone?

What crankshaft need for stroker my chevy 350

I started to have that conversation, but he cut me off and kept telling me what an engine Guru his friend who was, so am I to argue with that
Where are you located Doc?

How do you spell hyper what?
Are 3970010 350's any good?
Yep the 010 is high nickle content very good factory block
What do you mean when you say pump gas?
