A tip that might be interesting for you to know, Chris, is that we, up here in the arctic north, learn to vent out the heat from the car, once you are almost home.
Hot air can hold lots of humidity, which will condense once it cools off, where cold air can contain almost no humidity at all.
So, when you are driving home, for example, when you are 30-60 seconds from home, you can open your windows a little, and turn off the heater in the car. Next morning, very little, if any, fog on the windows.
And the award goes to...
Trying this cause northern Ontario
Yes, Sir. One of my tricks. Always park the car cold. Here, in Quebec, it was around -20F, in the morning, around Xmas time...
TheRealXesc ......and what happen if your heater don't work.?
Same here. Always kill the heater before putting the car to park. A cold car will not ice snow.

*(now you know why "high quality" precision optics are coated with Fluoride)* How does a cloud form? Dust attracts water (surface tension). Fluoride *_seals_* the pores of the glass, and makes it slippery- so dust can't be attracted or embedded into the surface. A high SPF suntan lotion or a "chapstick" type protector will also work. A high quality clay bar, followed by a silicone wax works awesome for glass _inside and out_ too!
If Fluoride is the key..why didn't the Scope mouthwash work at all? 😕
+HUBBABUBBA DOOPYDOOP Thanks for the info. So you think Fluoride is why it works and filling the pores is how it works? I thought it might have been making the surface hydrophobic. Hmmmmm....
Craig Cundiff The *Listerene* mouthwash Chris used also contains _ethanol_ which just negates any other ingredients.
The Fluoride used in mouth care products is designed to transform into Fluorine _gas_ which bleaches out stains (Sodium Fluoride Ion) The Hexafluoride solid used for optics is slightly different.
ChrisFix You were on the right track with the microscope- but you'd need an SEM to see what's _actually_ going on. We're talking micron-level stuff here!
Research "Why are lenses fluoride coated?".
Mostly German rifle scopes, binoculars, camera lenses, etc.
You are correct about the "hydrophobic" effect.

Early today I just found out my defrost doesn’t work in my car. Until I can afford to fix it I’m going to have to do some sort of home remedies for the inside fogging up. And I would just like to say THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU for making this video I watched both parts to this experiment you did here. And I just cannot thank you enough because I am so appreciative that you Actaully showed the before, during, and after. Every step of the way. Comparing multiple products. And I just found this extremely helpful. Like enough to the point where I’m commenting (because I don’t really do this) so I appreciate you and the work you do here
lol, just started watching you because i'm a home owner now and man you killed it with every video with no BS just right to the point. You da man. You got a new subscriber lol.
Chris it's 600 in the morning I was asleep and my headphones went up in noise saw it was you uploading interrupted my sleep to watch your vid love them you've helped my truck look sooo much better I appreciate it more than you'll ever know thank you so much!!!
+Tyler Stroud That is a dedicated fan! I am glad you enjoy the videos bud and thanks for the support!
Chris, great videos. I've seen several and I appreciate all the effort.I'd like to add a little bit here though:* A decrease in temperature actually increases Relative Humidity. The best way to clean your windshield is to turn on the AC if you have it, but increase the temperature the temperature. That way you are using both the drying effect of the AC as well as the drop in RH due to the temperature difference across the heater core. This will also help by keeping water from condensing outside on the windshield caused by using cold air from the AC.
Just came from your old video where you didn't use a control. You may not notice it but your videos are always improving. I really enjoy your channel - thanks for your time.
Hi Chris ! Thank You! Wishing you the best health 💜💕
Something that works for me better than the defrost option in the AC, is to turn AC on, and maybe turning on the heat so it won't get too cold inside. It sort of removes the moisture, and does it faster than the standard defroster. Specially when your AC system lets you redirect the AC to any of the vents.
Thanks for the tip! If you have AC that is definitely helpful!
"your windscreen is really clean"

Great video, we came up with the same answer as bicyclists. It’s a great idea and we have been using it for years as an anti-fogger. Thank you very much for sharing.
Windex works great too! It’s best on the outside if you saturate the window but you can spray it on and wipe it off too. The ammonia is the key ingredient to keep fog away. Though it’s a temporary fix it works great on humid nights in the south so you don’t have to turn the defrost on in the summertime.
Brighter and Fresher Windows in 2 weeks LOL!! Thank you for anther awesome video ChrisFix.
I personally just throw those silica gel packets near my windshield (normally on the defroster vents). I have a ton of them from Amazon packages, and they work awesome. I only use two for the whole front windshield, and they work perfectly. The only disadvantage is you can't put them on the side windows.
+BAD Ben thanks for sharing!
ouch! do not inhale the silica! Under microscope it has sharp edgers, thus it will hurt the linings in your lungs.
I use those things in my toolbox. Helps keep tools from rusting :)
Something new. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for the video!
Saturday morning here in Belgium, 7am. Just found out my heaters and demisters in the car stopped working. No shops open to buy products and i need to hit the road now for a 105 km trip. A quick look in youtube found your tutorial and Just enough time to apply the toothpast.. (though not colgate).
I will post my experience when I arrive at my destination.
If you all never here from me again, well... 6 feet under is what happened.
I really appreciate the efforts in the video.

Thanks heaps @ChrisFix 🙏🏼
After watching your video, I had tried the toothpaste.
Can confirm that this actually works.
Have done it for my front windscreen, side mirrors and side windows.
No fog has built up since then.
Thanks heaps again @ChrisFix 😁
You wouldn't want to rub onions in your scuba lenses anyways.😂😂
Thanks for taking the time in making this video. One other point regarding the use of Rain-X. Some might think they can use it on their googles or glasses. The problem is this could pose an issue. Its obvious that Rain-X has chemicals in their product, which could result in a reaction to one's eyes. Personally, I would not want to put something that has chemicals too close to my eyes, even if you think you have wiped the balk of the product off your eye-ware. Sweat might release and/or reactivate some of these chemical thus posing a possible reaction. One should always use caution when using anything that could come in contact with your eyes. Remember… toothpaste was created for brushing your teeth.
Chris your video is fantastic. I like the way you demonstrated. I will try toothpaste. Shaving foam did work for me
You're the MVP of UA-cam.
+Zurassh Thanks!
Small correction about dive masks. Toothpaste is used to remove the layer of silicone on the inside of the mask. After that, you want to use baby shampoo as your actual defogger, not toothpaste.
i never tried toothpaste but baby shampoo works for sure...the only thing that actually worked for me
@@donovans6472 It's not one or the other. It is both. Toothpaste once when the mask is new to remove the silicone from the factory (and maybe once a year afterwards to remove any additional accumulation). And then baby shampoo each time you dive to provide a thin coating that prevents fogging.
Um, my fiance's boss is an avid diver and he just burnt the silicone layer off with a lighter 😂
@@duskyjackal1699 Lighter method also works to remove silicone.
@@a_single_white_female I felt the hairs on the back of my neck rise when i saw the flame on the glass 🤣 it was my first ever mask and it wasnt cheap. Needless to say, i was glad when somone else did it.

I have the Rainx Anti Fog and I must say it didnt work well for me when I used it on my windshield. It actually kept a light film on my windshield that made it harder to see through combined with the fog. I am going to attempt using some shaving cream or the toothpaste... Thanks for the tips !!
How's the result?
Might be 6 years too late but-
Try cleaning your window with a mild degreaser, a good window cleaner and 3 good quality micro fiber towels
1 towel for degreaser
1 for window cleaner and the last one is for buffing of residue
If you do this right you may not even need Rainx
I would love to see this same kind of side by side test for rain on the outside of the windshield with rain-x vs. the car wax you used in your super clean windshield video

thanks Chriss, i really appreciate your work for i live in a town where no such thing as anti fog is available, your videos are great and practical, and i suggest that you use more common tools and products for your next videos cause where i live i dont get much choices for any thing , thanks for the great gift, for knowledge is the best gift to give away :)

My fog is on the outside of my windshield from my A/C because it blows a little bit out the defrost. But I also live in the south we’re it’s really humid
WELL YOU ARE VERY GOOD AT THIS ! Nice job.
Hey Chris great test!!! Thanks
Hey @ChrisFix - your videos are great man, thanks for making them. How long do these last before you have to re-apply them?Between this video and your other one on anti-fogging which product is overall the best? Rain-X, shaving cream, toothpaste? Does the Rain-X last longer?
They last about the same and its a few months.
i would like to know how long these remedies last in comparison with the pro de-fogger.
Great! I have an old VW campervan with no defogger fan so this will be useful.
Wow and thanks for all the testing. Good job

I used those little bead packets you get in shoe boxes and different products one time. Worked great. I lined them up on my dashboard and they absorbed the moisture and kept my windows from fogging up. But of course they got annoying after a while, so I ended up removing them.

Use the little silica gel packer out of beef jerky. They are meant to absorb moisture and work well. 2 for the windshield and back window. 1 for each side window. It helps to put them in the inner window seal. Works fine if you have tint as well. Hope you'd make a video on it. Hope it works
which is better to use toothpaste or shaving cream
Personal preference. I'm going to try shaving cream. I think it would apply faster and come off easier.
Dario de nero I meant to type shaving. I've corrected it. 😉
it depends on what TP or SC you are using, and what kind of towel, and who makes the towel, and what time of day it is, and if you are in a good mood or bad, and what your astrological sign is. but these are just a few of the things that could affect your actual results.
