Its very important to establish the shape and location of the eyes first. I've seen many people who try to draw one detailed eye and then struggle to figure out the second
i think a lot of people also have an idea of how an eye looks like at one specific angle, but have no idea how the eye would look in 3d. it's good to practice turnarounds (like a head at multiple angles, or even just the eye area) because it helps wrap your head around how the eye looks from all sorts of angles
I think most of the students take these guidelines too literally or follow them religiously while they are just a tool to learn the overall proportion, shapes and planes. Definitely a great reminder to draw more loose and get something onto the paper.
Your drawings are so fun and flowy and interesting to look at help. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA honestly not even here for tutorial just here to look at you draw. Thank you for the meal.
8:39 "Draw some cirlcles, draw the rest of the owl" really does become true at some point. As soon as you drew the second eye, my mind filled in the blank easily.
Thank you, that's a really nice guide. How quickly you sketch good looking expressions is so cool to see, I'm gonna strive to be like you one day 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
The whole guide is this picture with an owl at the minute 5:46. And the smiley face method is very questionable in terms of drawing an entire head, primarily for beginners, because they will not have a developed intuition and an artist's eye. But for more advanced artists, it's pretty good and encourages you to take drawing easier, and also helps solve the problem raised in the video.
I think it doesnt only apply to advance artists, but I think any artist who isnt completely new might benefit from it. There are already plenty of zero exp tutorials online, this wasn't meant for a one size fits all. Just thought it might help some people.
one of my main struggles is getting proportions down accurately and getting them to look somewhat accurate to the reference. thanks for the tutorial! i hope you will make some more in the future cus i will definitely be watching them!
Such an interesting take of using guidelines for perspective and proportion instead of using them for construction. I really liked the practical use of this, makes art more expressive and intuitive, rather than strict; thanks for the lesson! I'll make sure to try it!
The perspective of the eye is a bit tricky as is everything else. Side profiles and front facing perspectives are easier to conceptialize as they are more 2d. Creating 3d objects in a 2d space is a lot harder than creating 3d objects in a 3d space. I approximate where the eyes would be based on where other features of the face are.
How are you able to draw so fast and straight lines? My lines wobble, i keep missing the angles and this makes it impossible for me to draw guide lines.
I just write this with my language then translate it , it's easier
Pls pin me, I was first here.

I have a different mentality at it, like a circle moving around a ring. The second eye shortens as it revolves around the ring.
12:27 its uncanny how accurate this representation of “incorrect use of method” is
thank you for this, love this kind of video from you! big plus for your calming voice
Why is ur voice so soothing to hear? Nice work btw
thank u for this tutorial PG ur one of my biggest inspirations. i will try to implement it
thank you for the blessing of a video tutorial your style is what i am to be good at
Especially in Japanese drawing anime face tutorials, they love to use guidelines (and they draw perfect circles or Loomis heads).

Thank you god for sending me this video I've been looking for you're a life safer dude
man so good at drawing he doesn't need to draw the circle first
Thank you for the tutorial, this is very helpful!

My take on drawing the second eye is to never ever draw them with the aim to make them the same.
Hello ! :D Do you recommend any book for drawing ?

Do you use pen sensitivity? It seems like you not.
not for line doodles sometimes
