We did this in 2010, for my partners 65th Birthday, if you need to assemble a bucket list, this is one you should think serious about. Vancouver to Kamloops, overnight, then on to Banff. Great meals on board. Fabulous scenery. Very relaxing. Go do it....
Aww… Thank you so much. I hope you’ll be able to experience the Rocky Mountaineer one day. I don’t think anyone leaves the train on the last day with dry eyes. It truly is an incredible journey.
We are also from Australia and were fortunate enough to have done this trip from Banff in July 2019 and will always be at the top of my list of achievements ,we enjoyed not only the magical scenery but the way we were treated by the wonderful staff that we would do it again in a heartbeat, let's hope this terrible pandemic passes soon and allows us to get back on the magnificent rocky mountaineer and get to see some of the places we missed
Thanks you so much for watching Michael! So happy to hear you’ve experienced the Rocky Mountaineer yourself! Yes, I really hope things “get back to normal” soon as well! What route on the Rocky Mountaineer would you like to do next?
@@WanderlustJourney thanks for your reply , when we did this trip from Banff to Vancouver it was part of our scenic Canadian Rockies and Alaskan cruise package ,we started in Victoria and did whistler sun peaks Jasper lake Louise and Banff , including Calgary stampede, the land part of the journey was fourteen days ,and although what we saw was magnificent we would like to go back and do three to four weeks and do some of the things our tour didn't cover, the next rocky mountaineer route will be Jasper to Vancouver ,and then who knows,? it would be lovely to be able to do all the rocky mountain routes, we'll see
That sounds amazing! They have a route that goes from Vancouver up through Whistler and then onwards to Jasper. You might find that to be an interesting itinerary if you haven’t visited Whistler yet (highly suggest visiting) 😊
OHHHH it brings back memories. My Wife and I did this trip back in August 2014. Such a fabulous journey. Would love to do the Vancouver to Jasper trip but alas, I think distance - we're from Australia - and age prevents us from doing it anytime soon, unless we win the lottery.
Thanks so much for watching and glad to hear it brought back some memories for you! It’s such an amazing train journey, I’m glad to hear you were able to experience it yourself and you never know, you might be able to do the Vancouver to Jasper one day! That one is on my list to do as well 😊
Yes it was too bad, this was my second time on the Rocky Mountaineer on this route, but my Grandmother’s first time. It was still an amazing trip, but sad we didn’t get to experience the first day to Kamloops.
@@seaside2001 Yes it was. I have a friend who lost her home in Merritt due to the flooding. I understand why we didn’t do the first day during our departure, residents of Lytton hadn’t seen the aftermath of the fires themselves at that point, so it was a delicate situation that Rocky Mountaineer had to make that call.
Thanks for watching Alan! Would you do the same route again or a different one? I would really love to do the “Rainforest to Gold Rush” route next time!
Thank you for the video. My family is planning a vacation in July 2022 through Princess Cruise lines for a Land/Cruise/land tour. First it will be Calgary, Banff, Lake Louise, and Jasper by bus. Then Rocky Mountaineer to Vancouver. Then a 7 day cruise. Then a 7 day tour of Alaska through Princess Lodges Anchorage, Talkeetna, Denali Park, and ending in Fairbanks. Is this something you might could help with? We have not booked yet waiting on Covid restrictions information. You mention wildfires, is the fire going to effect the scenery from the train much? Will it still be worth it to take the train?
Thanks for posting that trip. The music and the sights have made it a must do for us this year. We are coming to Canada in August and will put that on our to do list. Do you have any booking tips?
Thanks so much for watching and for your comments Brett! The Rocky Mountaineer is quite popular and does sell out, especially that this is the first year that international travel is really back in Canada.
I really want to do this trip on my 50th birthday next summer, but I live in DC so I'm trying to figure out the cost of it all. It looks like a beautiful train I love trains,
AmaIng video! Blows the video I just posted on Via Rail out of the water. I’d be so pissed if I’m paying the money you did and they bus you to Vancouver. Did they compensate you at all?
Thanks for watching and so glad to hear you enjoyed my video! They did make up for it with the meals at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, snacks and lunch at our hotel in Kamloops. Our guides who were on our train the following day did a great job of telling us a few of the stories they would have shared along the other route if we were on the train. Honestly we understood the situation, especially with so many fires burning in BC. It was still a great trip and would do it again in a heartbeat :)
Thanks for watching! During our trip on the Rocky Mountaineer we only had to wear a mask when we were moving around the train, we didn’t have to wear them when we were sat at our seats or obviously eating downstairs in the dining area. I’m not sure yet what they will be requiring this coming year as of yet in regards to masks, I think we will find out in April once they start resuming operations for the 2022 season.
@@WanderlustJourney We are starting in Halifax and taking 4 different Via Rail trains to Jasper. Then down to Banff, board the RM and end in Vancouver. 22 days total.
i enjoyed seeing your recent trip. Seeing Banff with its water color was very colorful. Between 2001 and 2013 I took 5 weekend to weekend trips to ride all the AMTRAK rail west of St. Louis to see the West. In 2009 I returned to the Northwest using the AMTRAK Empire Builder to include riding VIA Rail back and forth between Vancouver and Jasper with a one night stay in Jasper as one of my trips. The Canadian Rockies are awesome. You had bad luck with the smoke haze but the same can be said if simply having a cloudy day instead of a sunny day as well. You had good fortune close the Banff without the smoke haze and the best part is west of Kamloops anyway. I'm sure you know VIA Rail uses the rail on the opposite side of the river (Frazier?) to Kamloops so I saw the Rocky Mountaineer from the other side. I enjoyed seeing the inside of the Rocky Mountaineer train in your video. Were you offered any reimbursement compensation for missing the rail part the first day? Thanks for placing on UA-cam. By the way, the long rail trips were too much for my wife who only went once but for me they were a great adventure. From St. Louis
Yes it was a bad year for fires in our province, hopefully I’ll get to experience it again. It was very fortunate for us as you said that when we got to the actual Rockies the smoke had cleared quite a bit from earlier in the day. I’d love to experience some of the Amtrak journeys one day, I know Rocky Mountaineer also just launched a new “Red Rocks to the Rockies” itinerary in the US, that one is also on my list! I’m glad to hear you were able to visit Jasper, it’s such a beautiful town! Thanks again for watching.
@@WanderlustJourney Sounds like you have a great idea for a next trip. This summer our two daughters both teachers did a three week family road trip together with kids for the first time and visited national parks in South Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. I liked not driving on my train trips but they had much more time to break it up. If you still live out West the AMTRAK trip you might really like as well is the Coast Starlight from Seattle to L.A easy to pick up from Vancouver. Besides Jasper I also liked taking a trolley tour to see Vancouver between rail connections. The second best AMTRAK route for me was the Zephyr between Chicago and the Bay area. Good talking to you.
That sounds like an amazing road trip with your family! 😊 Yes, when the US/Canadian border reopens it will be nice to take the Amtrak into Seattle again and further!
@@WanderlustJourney Actually, I stayed home on that one and made sure 2 cats and one dog were taken care of on their trip visiting their homes. Lots changed with COVID and although vaccinated and retired my wife and I have just been staying close to St. Louis. I did not realize the border was still closed but am not surprised given how bad it is here but is a little better now with fewer in the hospitals in STL, although many kids are affected this time. Very challenging for teachers as well. After recommending the AMTRAK Coast Starlight trip to you and those trips being a long haul for my wife you might like that Rocky Mountaineer in the U.S. West trip better with an overnight stay in a hotel like yours in Kamloops. Going at the slower speed and the experience on the trip you had sure looked good but their are higher levels of service on VIA Rail as well. All my trips but one were in coach but one trip was with sleeper cars.
Did the service prorate the cost because of the closed rails due to the fire? I hope they did because that is what you didn’t pay for. I would like to know. I have plans to take the same trip and I want to be prepared. Thx
They did give paying guests various options including the ability to rebook to a different date due to the closure. However this was a very out of the ordinary situation. This did not turn me off from Rocky Mountaineer in any way, I still think it’s an amazing experience and would do it again in a heartbeat.
Thanks for watching! I took this trip on July 19th and 20th, 2021. It is typically a great time to go on the Rocky Mountaineer as you have the most amount of daylight (July are our longest days of the year in BC). I did the Rocky Mountaineer as well back in October 2016 and we lost light before we even arrived to Lake Louise. I’ve done both SilverLeaf and GoldLeaf and much prefer the GoldLeaf. The outdoor viewing area is quite large and sitting higher in the dome is great!
This is the first video I’ve seen from you. Nice story telling and vision. If I can suggest you need to work on focus; fix the technical settings, get a new camera or just edit out the fuzzy content. It is the only thing that is a distraction in otherwise fine work.
Thanks so much for watching. I’m definitely new to filming and UA-cam, I feel like I’m getting better with each video and have been spending time learning about filmmaking.
