I notice that the shifter is a twice piece and the rubber in between the two seems to have a lot of play. Is there a way to fix that or just replace the whole shifter?
Hi hoping you could answer a few questions regarding the process well more like after I’ve bleed the lines and I’ve finished installing the shift nob back but the gear won’t go in any time I put in a gear while it’s running it sounds as if it’s grinding so I can’t even go into gear actually
HAHAHA. Well if you're too rough on that female end, it won't let you back in! To answer your question, the part time 4wd on the tacoma locks the front tires together so that they spin together. Here's a better explanation: www.tacomahq.com/4546/toyota-tacoma-4-wheel-drive-explained/. Therefore, the 4WD should only be engaged on slippery surface. I hope this information helped. Peace out brother!
The Throw out bearing noise can only go away with a new Throw Out Bearing. When you replaced the slave cylinder, you probably removed the tension from the clutch release fork and ended up repositioning the throw out bearing. You can probably try removing the slave cylinder to remove the tension again and try recentering/repositioning throw out bearing with a long screw driver.
Awesome video series! I'm looking at the ClutchMasters bearing fix as well. Looking forward to your thoughts and review of that system, and keep up the good work! You are giving me the confidence to do the clutch myself.
This job is definitely doable for a home DIY job. Just take your time and double check your work along the way. I definitely have the clutchmaster thoughts and review on my list of videos. Best of luck!
my clutch pedal has to be all the way to the floor to shift. I tried extending the engagement and the threads came out. What a way to start the morning getting it all back together. What does the 2012 with 120,000 miles need to get the clutch to work correctly. Shifting is good still.
There is a tab that adds a new throw out bearing with a redesigned slave cylinder with a longer probe on it. The throw out bearing is preloaded against the pressure plate and spins full time. Before, as the clutch starts wearing out, the pressure plate fingers would extended further and rub the throw out bearing causing it to wobble and damage the aluminum on the input shaft.
I watched lot of videos thanks,I have a problem in my Hilux ln166 cab, that is, when I start the engine it shudder highly, same at the switched off,but not in running, please tell me, is that a fault of clutch and pressure plate
Yo, boi! good vid bro! I have the URD throwout bearing fix. Had it done when my 07 Tacoma was around shy of 30k miles. It helps but eventually that tick noise comes back. I've been thinking of getting into the transmission to inspect it. Probably needs adjustment since the trk is now at 104k miles and going strong. Toyota really screwed big time on this area. Not sure if the 3rd gen with manual tran have this fixed. I am going to check your other videos and review as to how is done to get in there. Your videos help a lot and I thank you for all the efforts you put into it. Ciao!
KFlow: are you familiar with the ClutchMasters Hydraulic throwout bearing fix? It is an integrated slave cylinder into the throwout bearing and eliminates the fork lever system. I found it through TacomaWorld and just received mine. I have not installed it yet. FYI, I am at 234k miles and still on the original clutch. My TOB chirps bad, but has been chirping for years and many miles....
Hey Daniel, yea i just looked a bit into the product. That's a very interesting idea! You're definitely going to completely remove the side loading on that shaft by removing the use of that lever fork system. My only thoughts would be: whether or not that roller bearing portion is procurable by itself, just in case it wears out in the future - so I would by a spare of that. I'll definitely add this discussion to any follow up / further thoughts video on this clutch series. Also, that's awesome that you got that much miles on the original clutch! Do you remember when the chirping started?
I’m putting on the clutch masters TOB next week along with a URD stage 2 and heavy flywheel. The bearing and slave cylinder appear to be one piece. I plan on calling clutch masters to get the bearing PN and ask if it is serviceable. Initial impression is the part seems high quality and is made in USA.
The bearing P/N: KOYO RCT4000SA. It appears to have a metal sleeve made by Clutch Masters pressed inside of it. This sleeve is the piston of the slave cylinder. The bearing seems serviceable and the seal probably is too. I am unsure of the seal P/N.

Great info. Thanks
Awesome video thanks, about to install a short shifter kit. ☺️
Awesome! Thanks for watching and supporting the channel. Which shifter kit did you go with?
D jokes aside these are good videos. My tacoma is at 369,800 miles and I’m replacing the clutch and shifter.
LOL I'm glad you found them useful. I have other useful videos with much less D Jokes. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel

Does your clutch pedal have pressure when you press it down?
Enjoy your Videos ...

Keep it up - Don't stop🔧👍🔱
Thanks for the kind words! please help my channel grow by sharing my vids with your tacoma friends!

Just rebuilt the slave cylinder with the kit and the freaking thing got louder.
What got louder? The pedal squeak?

It seems like you may have some air in the lines. Try bleeding the clutch.

Shudder is usually from the air fuel mixture. Did you check your spark plugs for fouling? change your air filter? change your fuel filter?

Thanks Rob! I'm glad that URD fix worked out for you. So are you saying the ticking is coming from the TOB?
KFlo's Tacoma Build yes. Some days is more noticeable. I believe when it is warmer weather.
