When you change the gusset leather, add a D ring on each side. That way, it can have a shoulder strap clipped on with like a dog leash type clip on both ends.
How about some suggestions for your "Poisons!" In your small bottles, table salt, garlic salt, pink salt, sea salt. Black pepper, Lemon pepper, Cayenne Pepper. Cinnamon, cinnamon and sugar, really any and all spices would work as salable's. Sugar, powdered sugars, agava, (both in powered and liquid forms) and brown sugar in a small bag. Honey of several flavors. Whiskey, rum, and vanilla flavorings. Coffee, creamers, and flavorings. Chocolate powders, (and maybe something like Hershey's syrups.) You will note, that all of these are available in the closest Kroger and none are particularly dangerous, (Other than the Cayenne pepper and Cinnamon, and those only when used with malicious intent!) I am not a member of any LARP, but, I could see that those who are would like to have these spices for their meals, and would pay well for access to them! Well done, great pouch!
Oh, and one more thing, these would be in single dose sizes, or at least short run uses. You could sale them to individuals for one price and offer a discount for return of the bottles!
I really love this. I could use this in a larp OR as a tool bag at the range to carry extra ammo and cleaning equipment for my pew pew. I must say that your presentation and designs are excellent and in almost all your work I identify modern and fantasy use for the item you offer us. Keep leveling up YOU!
Add a little card holder pocket, either on the back of the body for ID/money cards to keep it minimal and secure, and/or pocket under the top flap for ‘if lost pose return to’/medical info. Also little pen loop in one of the corners
My initial thought when I saw the applique was "oh, that's a snake." I love that bag! The only thing I would do differently (besides follow your advice and use a different material for the gusset) is I would make that little tab o' leather that you used to keep it shut into a forked tongue. Cause..... snek.
@SkillTree red on the underside and a very pale grey or silver. Or maybe reverse that. Either way it would look awesome, because the pouch itself is awesome
you're living my dream. could you make a video about what hand tools you'd recommend getting for the various skill trees, and a list of the skills please?
I immediately recollect a leather working video about recommended tools. A few reviews on machines like sewing machines, laser engraver.. Woodworking and blacksmithing, Kit doesn't have many tools for those yet, beyond the basics, that I'm aware of.
Oh! I was just thinking of making something like this, but healing potion themed. I have a bunch of little bottles from syrup samples (so they're food-safe) that I want to fill with juice and/or electrolyte drinks during events, to help prevent dehydration.
Things I would change since you did ask: 1) instead of stitching the chrome-tan directly, I would have sandwiched it between the 4oz and another 4oz U-frame of the same contours and made the gusset a bit wider to wrap around the U-frame. Yes it doubles the thickness but it also changes the stress points and doubles the rip resistance of the sewn gusset. 2) Stitching groover tool. Set it the distance and tighten it, trace the edge and it gives you a consistent groove for the stitching to be placed into and a guide for the fork tines to follow. 3) Rub in mink oil on the veg-tan after wet-forming has dried but before dying. This gives you a waterproof base before the dye is applied. You could apply it after but you would need to reapply regularly. Make sure to follow the directions. 4) Resoline the dyed areas once dry. A clear resoline will allow you to place it on any color, but they make colored resoline too. This helps to seal the dye and the leather even more. I am not sure if it can be used on chrome-tan though.
I would only make two adjustments! 1. A leather loop over the vials for a pen and 2. Put a wide but small pocket on the gusset on the inside to hold things under the cover flaps. Could cover stitches by using a second layer of gusset leather also takes care of the weakness of the material your worried about
Duuuuude this is one I definitely have to make!!! This pouch is so cool!!! And the green and black are definitely my colors 🤩🤩 The only thing I might do different/ not even different, but just add to this design, I would put a D hook on each side, just to be able to hook a long shoulder strap, to wear like a small shoulder bag, or wear it like a back pack.
"From my analytics, it looks like only 40% of you are subscribed" My dude, that's immense. Most channels are like 8-15% subscribed. You have a solid community!
You've mentioned in a few videos that you worry about breaking glass vials and flasks. A fairly simple solution to this is making canisters for them, copper pipe is good for vials, for flasks copper is still doable but a leather wrap would be easier.
Oh, so many pockets!!!! I might have to make a couple for SCA events... it's always hard trying to find what I need and hiding the mundane things when need be
One thing that I've been trying to figure out (after investigating Mongolian style boots) is how to do a raised appliqué without a form. From what I can tell, because they tend to do heavy decorations on their boots, the cobblers there have pre-set forms for popular designs. So they must wet form thin leather, push it into the negative and stretch it with the positive side. Then they fill the gap with a string or twine. Since I'm one person, and only want/need one pair of boots, I'm trying to figure out how to do the form without a... form. Just raising the design a handful of times for each piece.
Have you considered air dry or oven baked clay? You would be able to make it whatever shape you want and I think it would be sturdy enough to stretch leather around. Two part epoxy clay is a thing too if the basic stuff isn't strong enough
@SLorraineE It's a good thought, I suppose my main issue is that I don't want to bury the time needed to make something I'd use maybe twice and then pitch. But I also may not have a choice in that. But I do have other projects I'd need the clay for and would also be mostly one-offs. I think I just talked myself into it. >_> Thank you.
Make your design out of leather and rubber cement it to a cardboard backing (you want something like the shiny side of a cereal box so the rubber cement peels away clean afterwards). Then form your leather over the design on the cardboard. If it's a thicker leather, transfer your design to the leather, get it wet enough to form and begin the process by working the design with a tool to stretch the area that will have the filler. Then you can glue the top layer directly to the leather filler, and once it's dry peel the whole thing off and line it with whatever material you choose. The leather form stays in place to keep the embossing raised.
Gussets should have inside pockets for thin slips of gold/silver plates or papers/maps (or local fishing/hunting license from provisional constabulary/governor, etc), emergency cloth/wound sewing needle & thread (etc) kit on one side, lockpics or firestarter materials (always good to have some dry cotton wrapped charcoal on hand for getting a fire going....
23:11 - One might even say... a loot saver. 😏 Sorry, I wont do that again. I love how Kit tries out all these new skills and makes all these projects; but it always comes back to sneaky rogue stuff. Soon you'll be taking all these skills you've learned and make a new set rogue armour with all kinds of nifty pockets and tricks, combining everything you've done so far.
Hiiiii!!! New sub here! Just wanted to say thanks so much for what you do! I just discovered your channel a few days ago and subbed immediately because you’ve given me the confidence to actually do something like this. I’ve always wanted to but didn’t think that I could. Your most recent ranger cloak video is gonna be what I give all the family members for Christmas! So cool… again; thanks… you’re the LITERAL best! P.s. the field testing videos are dope! My favorite was the accidental tent backpacking trip… lol
Gotta say, your love of pockets rivals that of someone who grew up shopping in the womens and girls sections during the 2000s. Love how many fit in the pouch top tier design.
Pouches are the essential part of any utility belt for any superhero and are like portable pockets that are actually functional and can carry so much more than jean pockets
You could replace the gusset with a wedge shaped accordion fold so the whole thing opens up as needed. The exterior peaks of the folds are the joined seam of two pieces. Total side gusset would probably be three separate wedges.
Actual construction. Well, you missed the loop on the back to carry your dagger/eating knife vertically, which a great number of Medieval pouches had. All the tops of the 'pockets' should have either an edging, or just the edge of the base leather, turned over and stitched - which stops the opening of the pocket/compartment from stretching and getting out of shape. Most Men's pouches hung from 2 straps formed in one with the front and back of the pouch - it was a long oval of leather with a square-ish hole to form the hanging straps as well as the front flap and back panel. Based on surviving leather from waterlogged deposits, a lot of original pouches had an internal linen lining which had several pockets or compartments stitched into it - even under the flap there could be one or two comparments with a common slot for access, again, reinforced with a rollover and stitching. The lining could also have extended a bit and have had a drawer string closure, although no examples of this seem to have survived. And the 2-3 leather draw string pouchlets under the flap on the front of the pouch. When I have made pouches with a gusset, I stitched the gusset with the gusset's skin side to the outer pieces 'flesh' or rough side, so when everything is right side out the exposed edge of the gusset in inside the pouch, which leaves you with a neater, burnished edge showing on the outer pieces.
Such a slick pouch. I think I would have elastic instead of leather for the bit that lets the front open up so it can open wider if needed. It would give quicker access to the vials if it sorta opens by gravity. I would need to be more cautious about not just spilling the contents when it swings open though. I'll have to consider the pro/con more though. I am definitely making this at some point. I don't quite have all the leather I would need on hand right now. Although I bet I could sub some parts for some reinforced fabric I have on hand. Heck I think I could do almost the whole thing in fabric. The applicay (I cant spell words) could be swapped with a real neat fabric pattern I picked up that's very alchemical looking.
You could keep the front as one whole piece by flaring the gusset gradually from the bottom to the top on both sides. May allow for more intricate decoration, would make the front stronger, saves a few steps, extra straps, and would still open it up like a wedge, with no gaps on the sides, and close flat. The only thing would be to train the gusset leather to fold inward at the sides, when closed, in the same way a paper bag does. You could actually do that twice to keep the main pocket closed while only opening the front vial pocket. Or open both and it could hang open even further. Double gusset, imagine a section of accordion or an expanding file, wider wedge, many more opportunities for pockets.
I just got a very large box of deer hide leather and have no idea what to do with it… I would love to see what u would do with that type of material for some ideas ❤
You should make a modern EDC pouch/carrier bag/messenger bag of leather or canvas. There is no reason you can not spoil yourself with something you can have and use daily outside of fair and cosplay. Maybe big enough for a laptop or large tablet and things you need or want. Maybe something simple that can cover both roles. Like black and some pressing designs. I always see pirate guilds. I'm fascinated with encryption, messages and assassination attempts. no one ever make a guild for that. I thought of poisons or potions that are actually electrolyte powders and vitamin B drinks. for after party recovery.
Instead of using glass vials and running the risk of them breaking what about using metal ones? Some of the energy shots here are sold in small metal bottles that could be used instead of the glass 10:17 . They would crush instead of leaving finger piercing shards.
Very cool looking. But I think making the sides like older concertina style handbags would've worked better than the clip bands as those look too fiddly and would become annoying after a while, whereas the concertina sides would fold in by themself and allow for further expansion upon opening. Still love it though, that green and black combo is stunning as always.
To stabilise your soft leather gusset you could run a cord through your rolled over top while will help it not stretch out. Love all your videos - thanks.
"It gives me one pocket, no, two pockets... three pockets! FOUR WHOLE POCKETS!!!" Finally, a guy gets the wonder of suddenly having enough pockets 😂. I kept having flashbacks to trying on my first handmade outfit where I went ham on making huge oversized pockets. Pure bliss - I'll never go back. Love your work - the applique looks incredible!
Wooo! I was already subscribed and part of the notification squad, so knowing that I'm part of the top 11% makes me feel just that little bit extra special. A little smile to brighten my day. Thank you!
I just wanted to say Thank You! for such quality content. You helped me build my first quiver years ago and your backpack inspired my design of some new saddlebags. I was just finalizing the applique when this video came out and it just reinvigorated my excitement about it all. Any chance you could have a booth at Open Sauce this year?! We are going to that event and would be over the moon to see you there. Cheers!
What perfect timing! I was just talking about needing to make an assassin pouch for the next ren fair with my coworker, and here this video is! Now I just need to contact the guildmaster and find out what size vials we use for our "poison" 😏
@SkillTree we have a slip of paper in the vial that says "you have been poisoned. See a wench for the cure." The wench gives them a vial with paper inside that says "you are cured. Bring both vials to your killer to arrest them" We also have clothespin "daggers" we have to attach to people without being caught. Three "daggers" equals a "kill".
When you put the edges on with the thinner leather put in a strip of 6 or 8oz as a 'backer' to sew through, just dye it USMC black and it wont show up. Plus it gives some structure to the edges.
I love this pouch so much! Excellent work! I run a plague doctor in my D&D campaign and this SCREAMS plague doctor! I know this is a lot to ask but have you ever thought about selling some of these things? Like, hypothetically, what would it cost to purchase this bag? I would love to make one myself but I don't have any of the tools. So I would first have to purchase all the tools, then on top of that I'd have to buy all the leather and such. In my mind if may be just as cheap (or expensive) to just purchase a finished bag. Anyway, love it a lot! Keep up the great work! Love the channel! Thanks so much!
11:34 min Starter problem! That's why you use an enchantend pouch! Not only is it bigger on the inside and lets you carry more stuff around without the weight problem, but it auto-sorts the stuff inside, so you automatically grab the stuff you want to retrieve from it. XP
When you update the gusset, try a tapered form, wider at the top, so than when you flop the front down, the sides wll allow it to hinge open, yet remain closed on the sides. If you'e industrius, work a tapeded pleat or three into the sides. This also possibly eliminates your side snap kludge,
Well…as a lady poisoner, I do not need the front to tip out as I have small hands. Regarding the fold-in flaps at the end, that is where you would keep the …suspicious wares. Think deadly nightshade, oleander, red caps! I love the pocket additions.
Very cool... great job! Practical uses for bottles... hydrogen peroxide/rubbing alcohol - for cleaning and disinfecting wounds, mouthwash, salt, vinegar, sunscreen, ointments... so many uses for travelling, camping etc etc...
I love the idea of the gusset helping hold everything in and blocking that little gap, but I feel like the extra length of gusset would get in the way while using the bag... My thought would be to curl the excess gusset back down and lock it into place leaving a half inch to an inch high loop of leather sticking up on the sides. That way when the top/lid is folded down, it pushes down on those loops like a gasket and seals the sides.
The only thing different I'd do would make one large belt loop. Just because I've had loops tear off or get snagged a lot and deform so they no longer hold tight to the belt
Brother, two comments. First, love the pouch. I think the only thing I would change would be to maybe add a slight bit of width to the inner pockets to provide a little more room. Second comment. Love the new camera angles. The over the shoulder into the corner with the PC, nice touch. keep it going.
Nice filigree work on the flap. Tip on your stitching pricks stick them in some beeswax so you don’t struggle pulling it out after punching the stitching holes.
Beautiful!! My favorite. Super strong magnets for the flap.“Magic” Also magnets on the bottom and the opposite flap to keep it closed. ?? Just an idea.
I would add enough D rings and swivel clasps to make it 3 1/2 bags in one. 1. Hip pouch 2. Sling bag 3. Backpack (personal fave) And then maybe the two adjustable straps could shrink down enough to make the bag fit under your arm holster style.
when you were going on chastising me for not being subscribed (I HAVE BEEN FOR YEARS! STFU!!) it caused me to look down at the info, only to see that the channel only has 187k subs. thats downright criminal. this channel has better content and production than most channels i see with subs in the millions. life aint fair.
A little over-engineered, but I love all the pockets! I would have cut the gussets in three separate pieces (bottom and two sides), then cut the sides at an angle so it folds open a bit farther But having the snaps there does give some more control over that opening, so there's definitely a trade off there. Good stuff, as always!
I dont know if this is something you would be interested in, but I "planned" out a pouch that I havent made yet, that has a double open zipper. Kind of like the reverse of what a standard backpack has, where both zip pulls being on either side of the pouch has it closed, and you bring them together to open it. Im thinking for something that is an "ambidextrous, quick access" pocket for things that might need quick access to potentially save your life in a dangerous situation. Wheter thats medication or cordless hole punching technology. Im not sure how it would work, ir even the best way to assemble it. Like, can you put 2 pulls on the same "track," but backwards? Or would it be easier for me to use 2 separate tracks, with one opening to one side and one to the other? My main reason for wanting to make one vs buy one, is I havent found a fanny pack/belt pouch that didnt come with its own belt, and didnt have a lot of like MOLLE web or other tacti-cool designs on it. Which I don't want or need on this pouch.
This is super pretty and well-thought-out, even though you're thinking it up as you go! That's what I love about your channel; you're just so ADHD creative!
What about putting more of the potion bottle holders across the inside of the top of the lid (Across the black section of leather)? They would also be stylishly displayed upon opening the pouch...
For some reason I read that as "Prisoners Pouch" and figured it was a smugglers tool bag
This idea needs to happen
I think it still could be, you just change out it's contents
@@TheDeepDiveLLC 'smuggler' screams the need for secret pockets lol
@@GCEvans09 thats exactly what I was thinking. Adding *all* the hidden pockets

When you change the gusset leather, add a D ring on each side. That way, it can have a shoulder strap clipped on with like a dog leash type clip on both ends.
That is SUCH a great call! Love it.
YES !!!
I did this type of idea with some of my projects so pouches, bags and sheaths can be carried in different ways
Clever!!! 😊❤❤❤
I love how the design on the front evokes both a tree and a snakes head. *Chef kiss* perfection
Personally, I see a Frog's face. kinda wish he'd made the closing tab red, so it looked like a tongue. :D

Just don't put a red cross on the front. Clever made that mistake in a previous episode 😂
I absolutely do this! Have a little pouch for vials and each vial has gatorade powder in it. It's an absolute lifesaver at renfairs or LARPs.
Very cool idea
Those electrolyte powder mixes are a great thing anyplace there is water already available.

This could probably be adapted into a Sporran. I need something to where with a kilt.
WEAR .....stinking autocorrect.
Ya know, I never knew that is what those were called! Thanks for the education!
With the flap in the front I'm getting a flash back of an Are You Being Served episode 😂
FOUR WHOLE POCKETS!!!"
Finally, a guy gets the wonder of suddenly having enough pockets 😂.
Cheers!
I think it looks good too!
What perfect timing! I was just talking about needing to make an assassin pouch for the next ren fair with my coworker, and here this video is! Now I just need to contact the guildmaster and find out what size vials we use for our "poison" 😏
Oooh! I would love to know how poisons work in your larp
U can stuck roll of papers(poison recipes maybe) under the closing part and it can look good and it is another usefull part
Perfect timing! I need something like this for my Mando's belt rig.
Nice looking pouch.
When you put the edges on with the thinner leather put in a strip of 6 or 8oz as a 'backer' to sew through, just dye it USMC black and it wont show up. Plus it gives some structure to the edges.
Love the pouch design ideas!

Starter problem! That's why you use an enchantend pouch!
Not only is it bigger on the inside and lets you carry more stuff around without the weight problem, but it auto-sorts the stuff inside, so you automatically grab the stuff you want to retrieve from it. XP
Nice pouch, but really liking the tool descriptions and quickly covering the basics and where to learn more for newer viewers
I'm dying with that cliffhanger teasing hint at the end. September is going to be a good month, I bet.
When you update the gusset, try a tapered form, wider at the top, so than when you flop the front down, the sides wll allow it to hinge open, yet remain closed on the sides. If you'e industrius, work a tapeded pleat or three into the sides. This also possibly eliminates your side snap kludge,
That's an inspirational pouch right there!!
Well…as a lady poisoner, I do not need the front to tip out as I have small hands. Regarding the fold-in flaps at the end, that is where you would keep the …suspicious wares. Think deadly nightshade, oleander, red caps! I love the pocket additions.
Awesome! I'm only a beginner sewing and your designs are awesome! I'm not too familiar with leather, but I love the look and feel!
Very cool... great job! Practical uses for bottles... hydrogen peroxide/rubbing alcohol - for cleaning and disinfecting wounds, mouthwash, salt, vinegar, sunscreen, ointments... so many uses for travelling, camping etc etc...
I like that! Like, a small wound care/ travel kit
This kit will be great if I ever make a cosplay of or LARP character based on my D&D Fighter.
Nice pouch
Brother, two comments. First, love the pouch. I think the only thing I would change would be to maybe add a slight bit of width to the inner pockets to provide a little more room. Second comment. Love the new camera angles. The over the shoulder into the corner with the PC, nice touch. keep it going.
Nice filigree work on the flap. Tip on your stitching pricks stick them in some beeswax so you don’t struggle pulling it out after punching the stitching holes.
Feel better soon, Madi!
You did a great job!
im a simple man. I see a new skill tree video, I like it.
great timing!
Beautiful!! My favorite.
Super strong magnets for the flap.“Magic”
Also magnets on the bottom and the opposite flap to keep it closed. ?? Just an idea.
I would add enough D rings and swivel clasps to make it 3 1/2 bags in one.
1. Hip pouch
2. Sling bag
3. Backpack (personal fave)
And then maybe the two adjustable straps could shrink down enough to make the bag fit under your arm holster style.
when you were going on chastising me for not being subscribed (I HAVE BEEN FOR YEARS! STFU!!) it caused me to look down at the info, only to see that the channel only has 187k subs. thats downright criminal. this channel has better content and production than most channels i see with subs in the millions. life aint fair.
Hmm, SPICE KIT!!!!
I didn't find the press release in the description.
Sorry! I just added it! It is SO EXCITING
@@SkillTree Very interesting.
You should use a deer skin leather. Super supple, flexible, & still strong.
I'm planning something like this, but more rigid sides... So, lovely work and VERY useful for teaching me!
This is super pretty and well-thought-out, even though you're thinking it up as you go! That's what I love about your channel; you're just so ADHD creative!
About time happy to see you again
The RE4 reference was a thing of beauty. Just as the pouch
i think it would make a great chef's utility pouch.
How about a false bottom?
Make your next one white and red with a fancy cross design
Well, I've made a few sporrans over the years. I must say, this is Very nice indeed!
I use snaps on the belt loops so that I don’t have to take the belt off in order to put the pouch on or off. (On the bottom of the belt loops)
Love the older Resident Evil reference. Awesome work as always!
Gorgeous ❤
Dude this is epic!! I want to make one too now XD
What about putting more of the potion bottle holders across the inside of the top of the lid (Across the black section of leather)? They would also be stylishly displayed upon opening the pouch...
FYI looks like the playlists aren't appearing over your shoulder when you call them out.
Get plastic test tubes from resturant supply store, like 50 of them for about 30 dollars. Cut them down to size with small pipe cutter.
It'd be pretty fly to see ya make the dungioneers or adventurers pack from dnd
The back of your top flap could have had a pocket too I feel. Good design!
Nice purse bro!
Lol but for real I love how this looks. Well done.
