I've been enjoying the hell out of this game. Its a rough grind, with not enough "early game" quests to fuel the grind. I found your channel when you started covering RS3, so I would love to see your thoughts on the rest of the game. Thanks for the great content.
Ive put in almost 200 hours since launch and I can safely say this is the game ive been looking for over the last 20 years of playing almost every MMO. My first 500 is YEARS away, but im here for it.
The thing that makes this game so exciting to me, is knowing its development is in good hands. No worries about store skins, xp boosts, direct level buying, limited time FOMO events, energy systems designed to make you buy more energy to keep playing, no pop ups on screen tempting me to throw away money at the new expensive item EVERY TIME I LOG IN. NOTHING aggregious or greedy about Brighter Shores, and I can confidently say there never will be. The Gower brothers have openly talked about how much they regret selling Runescape. They have their wealth, now they can make a game they're passionate about, with a focused on not making the same mistakes. It's just a traditional gaming experience with a low entry, reasonably priced monthly subscription being all you need to sink thousands of hours into the game. Genuinely I cannot be happier, and am so excited to play a game where the focus isn't just about how much money they can literally suck out of my bloodstream.
there's no micro transactions for now. there's just episode paywalls and an endless grind loop which pretty much leads to nothing rewarding. After 100 hours, I dropped it and I might come back in a few months/years when they decide to put 'fun' in the game or any content that doesn't feel punishing for playing.
@SimonRobeyns There shouldnt ever be microtransations, the devs have been outspoken enough about that, and we should be able to trust them on it. Honestly though coming back in a while 100% a great option. This is the worst state the game will ever be in, which speaks to how good it is because it's far from awful, but if its not enough for ya. give it time to cook and come back in 6 months to a year and see if it suits ya better, itll look quite different and is hopefully more to your liking!
@@oots4790 I really hope so, I was a massive fan of runescape when I was 12, as it really seemed to suck you into an actual mmo world. This game feels like a afk mobile game in its current state. After grinding to 20 upwards, the most satisfying thing you unlock is being able to level afk, without punishing yourself clicking nodes for hours. That can't really be what the game is all about right.
which you need a ton of for the THREE weaponsmith skills in episode 3 (yes each weaponsmith is only for one class but you have to level all 3 for quests)
This game looks awesome cant wait to play! But waydot thank you!! My poor niece hasnt felt well and couldnt sleep, she came into my room to snuggle, i was watching this video, and she said she likes your voice. She fell asleep after almost two days so thank you for your asmr voice!❤
FYI the sense spell will highlight notable objects in the room u are in. So when you need to discover new things in a room press spacebar or the sense button to see everything u can interact with/discover :)
Im only 4 minutes in but you can fix the camera settings to always center on your character The sense spell is really useful. It lets you know what can be interacted with on a map. If you finish fishing in a room, then hitting sense will make it easy to see when the fish start spawning again
Been a runescape player since 2001, I just hit lv 200 on Brighter shores today, and I'm loving it. Its a very grindy game, but if that's the kind of game you're looking for it has an amazing opportunity for growth.
I'd be interested to see you cover The Black Grimoire Cursebreaker, it's basically a single player version of Runescape but you can see other players running around. You can't interact with them other than chatting, though, it's purely social
I have been addicted to this game... the QoL updates coming in fast. I have truly enjoyed this at 200ish hours played. Just hit 207 minefighter last night.
defo want to see more, unlike other youtubers you didnt go into it comparing it to runescape every 30 seconds which is finally nice to see in a review.
The sense spell is very useful. Click the spacebar and see every monster, necessary item, etc. with name and level floating above it. If ever you have trouble finding something, just hit that spacebar. You can equip any gear or weapons you have in any area, if you use the quartermaster spell, they're just not going to be as effective as the items designed for it. Think of the combat "resets" this way: You trained for 2 years as a plumber but move on to train as a carpenter. A majority of your plumbing knowledge will not aid you in learning carpentry. In other words, guard, scout, watchman, etc. are just professions, like everything else. The Gowers are really trying to keep things family friendly. The Christmas hats seem like an experiment, to see if players would be predatory traders or gold sellers, which, unfortunately, I've heard several players be very open about wanting to do. At least one player has already been banned for botting. So, the Gowers are trying to be serious about maintaining a safe environment for their players. They are being very slow in introducing open trading, likely because they are trying to avoid the economy failures and predation in Runescape. If you treat it as a casual skiller and don't focus so much on quests, it provides hours of entertainment. If you treat it as a grindfest to get through the quests and beat, as fast as possible, you'll hate it. As you said, Runescape fans are more likely to enjoy it than people who mainly play FPS or boss fighting games.
There's a lot of people hating on the game in the comments, but I'd actually love to see more. I've been playing since the game came out, I tried getting friends into it and like many others they didn't like it and quit, but I kept playing. It's a very divisive game, you either love it or don't and that's fine. If you do plan to play more I think it's worth trying out Episode 3 and 4. Even if it's just for a month and if it ends up not being your kind of game. Edit: You actually already got past the major hurdle that is unlocking Storage Rifts, so now when you do anything anywhere it should be a lot more cozy. There's something charming about just turning your brain off, getting a full inv of ore in episode 3 and banking it at the storage right nearby. The crafting rooms are usually always chatty because why not, everyone's in a room all grinding the same stuff so might as well strike up some conversations. If you're not a fan of combat at the moment I think that's more than fine, you don't really need to grind hard at it to beat the main story and Andrew stated he's already working on Special Attacks and the like so that might make combat much more enjoyable.
If you haven’t gotten to Crenopolis yet, you need to keep playing. All 4 skills are amazing, they build off of one another, and it’s a great time. Trust me, it’s the most complete part of the game and feels like OSRS
Been a fan of your content since the days you were trying RS3 Ironman! Been playing and making content for this game like crazy, I'm definitely hooked but this game has a lot of ways to improve, definitely bullish on the Gower brothers long term :)
I saw someone with your name (Waydot) in game at the Chef area on the first day, but I wasn't sure if that was you or not. They never responded when I said hi. lol
I’m sitting at 229 hrs and still having a great time. This game definitely seems to be one of those where you love it or you hate it though, not much in between. It is definitely for me tho 🤣
The game was originally designed with one-click functionality anyway so it wouldn't be hard to port. I'm betting that's on their roadmap already, just not rushing to other platforms before they finish the game.
I saw a video to play this on mobile already this game (looking like mafia mobile adds) seems made for mobile for sure specially seeing how simplistic and dull the combat is
A common misconception is that the game is slow. The assumption that skills slow down at later levels is not actually true: levels come in at a flat rate. At 150 knowledge points (lamps) start to drop off but the xp you get for active/passive methods speed up, so it balances out. The reason the levels cap at 500 is because there isn't really the oppressive level curve that runescape has, it's a lot flatter and the xp rate from doing level-appropriate content scales to match it. Game has only been out for a week and someone's already got 500 guard.
Thanks for this! Been wanting to try Runescape for the depth, but ngl, the graphics put me off :( Brighter Shores looks like it'll tick both boxes for me :)
The tuning system seems super redundant, and an unneeded step. Just let me walk around with my gear, i don't want to stop to tune everything every time i go from area to area.
So far, even though they're killing it with the updates, I find this to be moreso of a casual gathering simulator than full on RuneScape. The combat is flawed, and as far as I've played there's no real MMO content, bosses, etc. If that content exists, why do I have to play for 10 hours to access it? It just needs to be finished. Good effort, just needs more.
I really wanted to like this game, after thousands of hours in Runescape, I just could not get into this. I'm sure the professions mesh together eventually, but I couldn't see the bigger picture and felt a massive disconnect between zones / skills. I'm sure given enough time ( and at the rate they're updating the game, probably not a long time) this will become a solid cozy mmo to revisit.
@@SuperYtc1 I wouldn't have sunk cost if I didn't want to. I'm not a child like you probably are, I value my time. And Brighter Shores is a great game that's replacing RuneScape for me. I'm sorry you lack the brain cells to enjoy it I guess?
My criticisms of the game so far: 1. Skilling fills grindier than runescape, having to click on everything 2. I don't know if it's just me but the world design looking like rooms makes the places feel smaller
@@Waydots It's actually a little more complex than that. Brighter Shores has 2 major milestones that completely change the exp formula. 20, so 1-19 is really fast. 20 will be your first major change and you *feel* it. And then later again at 200. A lot of people consider hitting 200 to be hitting a 99 in runescape while 500 is going for 200m exp. Now, the interesting thing is every level from 20 to 200 assuming you always stick to the highest thing you just unlocked should always take you roughly the same amount of time, so 79 won't be that much longer than say 33. Whereas in Runescape you *definetly* feel some levels slow down to a crawl, mostly because of never unlocking a better method. Like with Mining, oh boy you hit 55 mining, you can mine Mithril now! You won't. Nobody does. Even people in their 90's will still be mining the Iron Rocks they unlocked at level 15.
I was wondering when you would get around to trying the game. Personally I have been having a lot of fun with the game. I have finished all the story quests and working on the side quests for each area now as each give me a goal to work towards in specific professions. I would love to see you progress further, I feel you'll like Crenopolis (Episode 4)
I've played for about 20 hours. Resetting skills in each episode is an awful design. By episode 3, I was tired of grinding the same skills repeatedly and really just don't feel like continuing Inventory management is awful There is no social aspect The chunks are fine, but I feel like I'm just in a giant dungeon and it really doesn't flow great
"The Next Runescape?" I think for Brighter Shores to be its own game it has to shed the community preconceptions about it being Neu Runescape. That's gonna be rough when a lot of the game marketing is built on the name of the Gower brothers. But unfortunately I do think that BS has no future. Not because the gameplay has pain points that will inevitably be addressed but because... nobody young is getting hooked on it. In a generation of games where you immediately get in and play, with work earning you cosmetics instead of numbers that let you farm green fish instead of blue, we're seeing this kind of game design start to get phased out.
I kind of agree. In RS back in the day people could have fun playing with their friends, even in F2P, here there's no MMO elements/actual fun or interaction with anyone and just boring grinding for now. I don't see anyone except for even a niche percentage of OSRS fans and of course the d-riding Gower fanboys really play this for an extended period of time.
@@Ignas_ you're right because RuneScape definitely doesn't have that. Definitely not like 8 different types of ore that turns into 8 generic colors of armour. 😂
gone from 22k players to 3k all who quit saying same thing i like the game but its 2 much of a grind it even makes runescape look like ez game to 99 1 skill atm to 500 is more then 4 to 99 on RuneScape lol
if you liked runescape you'll like this. but for everyone else i dont think this looks fun. grinding hrs for fishing? grinding weird random skills just to do the quests? definitely not something i would ever play. graphics aren't really an improvement from runesacpe, you might as well just keep playing runescape. also not being able to use swords/items in different areas is just strange. and then a paywall to even play the game. would never even consider playing this game or watching another video of it. boring grind. weapons/gear basically disappearing every single area. paywall after tons of grinding. terrible game.
I like OSRS, but I didn't like this. In RuneScape, you have a vast variety of options, you unlock new areas, places and methods to skill. I think RuneScape is a game of logistics and optimization, whereas in BS everything is already pre-optimized for you (small maps, only 1-2 places to do any particular activity, etc.) and everything is just about grinding. And the progress in RuneScape is persistent - I level up and I can fight dragons, or I can go back and absolutely demolish goblins. The goblins don't just become world-class threats because you level up your combat level.
just watching people play this game is boring. my developer friend made a fan project of osrs called WORS its basicly the what if wow made oldschool runescape.
Its kind of worth it, in a weird sense. Since playing without episode 3 and 4 is beyond bland and boring. There's not even that much content even with episode 3 and 4, but I would hate it a lot more with limited access. It's good to play for a few weeks and then drop for the time being, as you will burn out on playing very quick. There's very little incentive to play and no rewarding feeling for doing much. At some point you just feel like everything is a slog and a giant waste of your time instead of fun.
its a very bad game lol. Im sorry, but this isnt 2005. like. Thats where this game belongs. They should have just done a spirtual sequel to runescape. A modern one. SO SO many weird choices that just ruin the game and are flat out unfixable. Like the tile system and the "rooms". Its like an updated dungeoneering. If this was the new dungeoneering, id think its cool lol. But as its own stand alone game? wtf
@@rePAULsion I am a little confused, but if you mean do runescape 3 right, yes. WIth all the same design philosphy of rs2. Skill, trading, no perm classes, a dangerous wilderness with pvp. all of that. But in a modern package. Remove the tile system, remove the horrible tick rate, give us diablo style movment, so on

I mean, young people don't play OSRS either and yet it's one of the biggest mmos out there to this day.
I stick with osrs
yeahh more!!
Quit playing after episode 4, just isn't for me.
Tell you what, you can tell the early RS trio worked on this. The dialogue is horrendous, really needs a proper pass.
the item tuning is actually what killed the game for me.
I love it
played it for few hours, but i didnot find the fun, where is fun?
yea same, was booring as hell
Numbers go up, unlock new stuff... It's RuneScape lmfao.
@@angryitalian3430it’s nothing like RuneScape and nowhere near as good.
@@angryitalian3430 But it's not new stuff, it's the same stuff with a different color
@@Ignas_ you're right because RuneScape definitely doesn't have that. Definitely not like 8 different types of ore that turns into 8 generic colors of armour. 😂
I don’t know if i can convince myself to give it a try, too nostalgic and might drag me back into RuneScape
Would that be such a bad thing?!
gone from 22k players to 3k all who quit saying same thing i like the game but its 2 much of a grind it even makes runescape look like ez game to 99 1 skill atm to 500 is more then 4 to 99 on RuneScape lol
if you liked runescape you'll like this. but for everyone else i dont think this looks fun. grinding hrs for fishing? grinding weird random skills just to do the quests? definitely not something i would ever play. graphics aren't really an improvement from runesacpe, you might as well just keep playing runescape. also not being able to use swords/items in different areas is just strange.
and then a paywall to even play the game. would never even consider playing this game or watching another video of it. boring grind. weapons/gear basically disappearing every single area. paywall after tons of grinding. terrible game.
The goblins don't just become world-class threats because you level up your combat level.
hot garbage but to each their own boys
if there is no MTX, 🌈, Bots & market manipulators....
It's a definite WIN against Runescape.
I rest my case.
💯
bra andrew basically stole the whole idea from runescape lmao
I.. uh.. Andrew MADE the idea for Runescape
If you are not trolling then you are the biggest retard zoomer ive ever seen
just watching people play this game is boring. my developer friend made a fan project of osrs called WORS its basicly the what if wow made oldschool runescape.
This game so bad. Clustered zones click intensive skills bad movement and combat. Rsc had better mechanics.
No pronouns 😤😤😤😤 get me this game
itll be a flop but kudos for them for trying, everything being instances blows
@@brrian retard alert.
hmmm... monthly sub for a EA mmorpg? I'll wait until the game goes full release before i'm spending any money.
First! 😀
yikes
its a very bad game lol. But as its own stand alone game? wtf
so you wanted them to make Runescape 3 but not have it be receive poor reception?
@@rePAULsion I am a little confused, but if you mean do runescape 3 right, yes. WIth all the same design philosphy of rs2. Skill, trading, no perm classes, a dangerous wilderness with pvp. all of that. But in a modern package. Remove the tile system, remove the horrible tick rate, give us diablo style movment, so on
meh, boring.
Does it have Pronouns?
perhaps even adjectives and verbs
THIS GAME IS BORING ASF LOL
