that article sounds very much like it was artificially generated. Because it mixes so much info of different species and plants. There's some widely available info mixed with popular myths, it repeats a lot of concepts with different wording but never really clarifies anything. It could be that the 1st half of the article was properly curated, but then the editor ("author") didn't really know how to proceed due to lack of experience?

I enjoy hearing myths being busted..so many get caught up in the hype of something but don't take the time to learn more about it. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
The article sounds like a class essay we’ve all done in middle school and we were so proud of it. We be all thinking we were gonna be well known writers 😂. However, credits to the author who tried to provide good tips to orchid caretakers, and thank you Danny for providing true a valuable information about the article 😊
You should debunk the stem cutting thing. Next summer when you cut the spikes, make a bunch of cuttings following these advices on how to make new orchids from flower spike cuttings.
Would make for a nice video
Yes! Show the truth!
This often is a problem when the author does not dive deep enough into a foreign subject, everyone is confused in the beginning. I really appreciate the effort thou, I am happy that the orchid hobby is being popularized
The article sounds like a class essay we’ve all done in middle school and we’re so proud of it😂
I learned early on that you are the only one I’ll follow. Some offer pretty crazy advice!
Thanks for setting matters straight. I'm new to orchids, but many videos on topics I'm very familiar with publish equally bad information/instructions/advice. One has to be VERY careful when consulting the web about ANYTHING. There's a lot of garbage out there.
Great video, Danny. Would be great for you to do more videos like this. Very informative.
I enjoyed this! Thank you, Danny!
Yes please include a discussion of what others claim online.
There seems to be quite a bit of bad info about orchids on the internet. Here on UA-cam there are few questionable videos about how to resurrect your orchid into a massive root and flower growing machine with food.
I’d never heard the word secateurs either, but apparently it is a French word that is commonly used in British English, meaning shears (as in pruning shears). We’ve both learned something today!
OH I LOVED THIS VIDEO! I see SO many videos online that are just SO wrong. I always make a comment and refer people to you!
You always post topics right on par!! I was just talking about this with a plant friend last night. Could you imagine if we could propagate by cuttings?! Thanks for sharing Danny 😊
Very interesting!
Hi Danny I think you're right on this video thank you blessings 🙌
At 19:46 you misunderstood. He meant to wrap the flowerspike in saran wrap/cling film, and then "pop" (put) it in a sunny location with bright indirect light.
Thanks for all of the great content! Do you grow your cattleyas under lights?
Good video.

Could u make a video going through each species of orchid (or at least ones u have experience with) and say what climates they bloom and grow best in?
She has a playlist in her channel about orchid care for beginners where she talks about different orchids care tips
Interesting article. Do more
Hi, Danny, this reminds me of an article that I recently read that had orchid care instructions and all the photos were incorrect for that particular care instruction. I felt bad for any beginners taking in this information. I did enjoy this video because it certainly will let people know that you cannot believe everything you read!! You should do more research and see if there is other information on that particular subject.
I agree with the other people saying this article does not seem to have been written by a human. I do not recommend providing the links to those articles because even if everyone who clicks it tells the editor they know what they are up to, that is still a click and it's still ad revenue. The name Christopher o'donoghue doesn't come up with anyone renowned for orchid care when I searched his name, and the name of the editor comes up with a real person who doesn't have any credibility as far as orchids are concerned.
Hi Danny! Thank you for your video. With this video you answered a question I made in your last myth or true video 😊
Great idea, great video. That article was a perfect example of irresponsible journalism. Half truths are just as misleading as lies. Novices would most certainly go about killing the very orchid they loved enough to want TWO of, if they followed most of this advice. 🙄 Thank you for always being a reliable source of information.
Interesting 😊
i propagate monopodials by cutting them in half and adding some auxin like 3-indolbutiricacid directly in the wound, then let it dry or a couple of days and lastly i put the upper half of the orchid into volcanic rock or sphagnum moss into a container with no drainage so it kreps it humid. With this method you can get new plants that will flower in one year. I even have a tutorial in my chanel but it is in spanish :(
btw: flower spikes are stems, every structure that have nodes is cnsider a stem. Any ways great video.
I've followed and tried many UA-cam videos instructing on the propagation of Phalenopsis from flower stem clippings. The experiments have ll failed. So there?
I subscribed to your channel bout 6 months ago. I find your videos informative and easy to follow. Do you cover cymbidium orchids in your weekly updates ?? About 30 years ago I did quite well growing them. I would like to give it another try but I no have access to an outdoor growing area. Sure I could find many other people who post content bout cymbidiums. But i find you to be very credible. Anyway , just asking. Much ❤ from SoCal.
Woo-hoo, can't wait for Princess Jacky to bloom! 🥳 Danny, how is the tolumnia experiment going?
Hi Miss Orchid, thank you for all, where do you live or which country do you grow your orchids?. The sole reason I am asking is that the result of propagation is drastically different in different countries with their own climate( tropical, etc).
I have an older or hid given to me by a friend. The stock has gotten quite long and is growing sideways. It has lots of air roots. Not sure about the roots.
Can I cut the stock? It has just stopped flowering.
I was able propagate from cutting of dendrobium stem (not flower) . It does take a while. Almost 4 months to see root and leaves.
i had succeeded in propagating dendrobium via cutting its cane.
Hi Danny😘😘😘
“It’s not about keikies “😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I am in a orchid tips and tricks group on Facebook and recently somebody posted a video on what appeared to be a dendrobium and how to grow it from cuttings, I would love for you to do a video on this. I was sceptical of the video
Hi, well first that's mostly done with soft cane dendrobiums and with older canes, preferably in the warm season. Imagine this but the cane cut in sections for each node ua-cam.com/video/Nb7PRgsHTTg/v-deo.htmlsi=9Q0mjn1YXvgjVc6d :) it's not a guarantee though so maybe use a pretty old cane, not the newest one!
@@MissOrchidGirl thank you, I have learnt so much from you 😊
That one is actually possible. In Southeast Asia where there is lots of humidity 70-80%, they just cut and lay dendrobians on benches or just throw the canes up on the benches and cut later. But like I say, you have to have the time, the humidity and etc.
I’m not even sure Miami Florida can do this with their dendrobians since I read where on their website RF Orchids uses plastic over their shade cloth to keep humidity consistently high enough. What I don’t know, and keep meaning to call down there is to see is if the plastic is added just for the winter months. You can check RF Orchids care section. Places like Vanda man is down in the area too don’t know if he uses plastic too. He grows Vanda, cattleyas, maybe dendrobians too. Maybe someone who visits down in the area would know about the plastic for humidity.
Sécateur is a french word for pruning shears. Was really surprised to see this word in an english article
I know in your experience you have never seen a Kiki grow from a bloom spike I have 2 times it really depends on how long the bloom spike is. I have some that are over 2ft, sprouted in ways I've never seen before. But personally it's very rare but does happen.
Yay❤️
The cutting propagation method described in the article works for some reed stem epidendrum varieties. Some types can yield a new plant from every stem section with a node. The writer really doesn't understand the subject.
I think this is great for beginner growers, so they don't get mislead..
Could they be referring to dendrobium and jewel orchids when they speak about “the stem”?
Yes, more reaction/debunk video’s please.
The only genus the article mentions (or pictures!) is Phalaenopsis. So it's likely the author doesn't know they exist.
@@allbackicelandyes, they only used phal pictures and mentioned it… but also mentioned pseudobulbs and spoke about “single stem” orchids.
While they didn’t go into specific details, some orchids still can be propagated using nodes but they really should have specified that.
Also you should give the green flowerspike propagation method a try, I think if it has enough plant matter (the spike is long enough) then maybe it would be successful, I've seen many other growers successfully do it. And if a tiny millimeter size protocorm can form a plant then a massive flowerspike surely could.
I would like to ask the author of this piece where he got his information from? Experience or AI resource? X
Chào buổi sáng 😁 Bạn chia sẻ video rất tuyệt vời 👍 Chúc bạn vui vẻ 😁 lời chúc từ Vietnam 🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳
I have watched alot of these types of videos, I take it with a grain of salt and go back to Danni.
Hi missorchidgirl
Well, I guess that kind of articles, magazines, portals are for people who are not specialized with the topics authors write about.
I feel like articles like the one you reviewed are written to make a "content", not to be source of knowledge about specific topic. I see similar thing in printed garden magazines. Publishers put big title which is catchy for potential readers but in fact they don't cover the topic in the way the title suggest. Huge, nice pictures, few paragraphs of text and ads. That's it.
My suggestion - ignore those websites, magazines. Do I think your "reaction" video will change something? No. The article is published, internauts are visiting because of recommendation system, affiliate links are clicked, money are coming, the publisher is happy.
If that type of videos will bring you more viewers, sure, go ahead but I believe for most of us your yt channel is source of orchids-specific knowledge that is solid, precise and super easy to digest.
actually, dividing a phlalaenopsis orchid in two is not as insane as it sounds :) I had two inctances of stem rot, when all I was able to save was two top leaves of the orchid, and one time - four top leaves. In all three cases, the plants were not dehydrated, and the leaves were fully mature and large. I hanged these leaves over wet sphagnum moss, and in about a month the roots started appearing from the bottom in all three cases. The first plant now has about 5-6 leaves and blossoming, and still have one of the initial two leaves in the bottom, another one caught a rot when I planted it in the moss, and died, and the last one, with 4 leaves, is now growing in a pot and shooting new leaves from the top. So, if you are really willing to experiment, you have a phal with a long stem, then you can cut it in half in the middle. It is quite possible, that bottom part will give a basal keiki, and the top part will give roots, but it is a super damaging and risky way to propagate them...
I did this with phal marriottiana because they have such a elongated stem compared to other phals. The bottom part grows basal keiki and the top part just continua growing normally. However, i believe the shorter, smaller phal species will have less chance to succeed on this method
yeah, like i said - very risky and damaging... actually, I only do it in case of stem rot when there is nothing to loose :) two top well developed hydrated leaves proved to be enough to give roots though, so it is possible...

Pretty much the only orchid you can propagate by taking cuttings are certain jewel orchids like Ludisia discolor. And even with them, you have to be really, really careful. PS "sussed" means figured out.
And vanilla!
New video idea: try follow the article on how to divide a Phalaenopsis by cutting its flower spike 😅
You should make a video about dividing phalinopsis orchids (rare occasion)
Assume you have a phal with multiple growths that aren't on a flower stem. And Think of how it would grow over time. Probably separate on their own during repotting!
Titl pliz
Monty Don is a UK TV gardener he would not be impressed 😅
If I were one of the quoted experts, I would be upset that the information I provided was misused. The author of the article clearly grows plants but not orchids...perhaps has one flower shop orchid. They are not a collector. This simply isn't a subject he knows enough about to write this article.
Those pots they mentioned weren't exactly ideal either!

The article is just advertising disguised as fact. Note the name-dropping of contributors' businesses and product placements and links. How does someone with a hedging company become an expert on orrchid propogation? These articles are produced to gull the unwary.
Journalism is not what it used to be.
Aah! Masdevallia💀
I have one for almost a year now. Got it in bloom. Flower spike is still there and green with a bud? on it like it’s wanting to rebloom.
There are a lot of little nubs, probably new leaves growing as we speak. I hope that it’ll flower this fall/winter.
Also got a Hibiki and that one has gone on to glory🥹
