Nice to discover steps that aren't even discussed in the Upgrade Instructions !! Just another reason to keep that ALERT BELL turned on, and keep up with your 5100 videos !! THANK YOU
+K6UDA Thanks! Now I need to shoot a video showing how to update the repeater list (I did not backup the list to the SD card during the firmware upgrade). It should be a good topic.
Nice video! Just to be sure... the repeater memory and settings can be updated via the SD card and CS-5100 software, but the firmware can *only* be updated with the USB cable?
I have never done an update to my 5100 and I would like to know if I need to install the E1, E2 and E3 updates or if I should just install the E3. Thank you in advance for the help. Bob N3PUG
My question is one I haven't found solution for online or from Icon Tech Support. For no apparent reason my 5100a is not attempting to locate GPS. I've done a soft & complete reset per Icom's email response. The radio is working other than that item. Other than, it seems to me it used to always MUTE the SUB channel when I transmitted on the MAIN one. Now it only MUTEs the SUB if it is on the SAME band. I.e., if MAIN is 2M and SUB is 2M, it will mute SUB. If MAIN is 2M and SUB is 70M, it doesn't mute and any transmission on SUB still produces audio while I am transmitting on MAIN. I've spent hours online looking for similar issues, but nothing. I came back to your channel hoping your experience with this unit might solve this issue(s). I'm going to attempt to reload firmware - which is why I came to this video - to see if that shakes something loose. thank you in advance for any input.
No. Only icon is the SD Card one. It stopped coming up and flashing like normal. This was working a week ago. Thank you for your response. @@Commsprepper
@@Commsprepper It's taken me 3 days to locate the cable 'I put in a safe place' to attempt reloading the firmware. The software determined it is already up to date so it would not load it. I'm hunting for a reinstall option in google. Good call on a swap heads option. I will try and locate one for this test.
Better late than never. This is a pretty horrible implementation from Icom, as the firmware manual I saw barely mentions it. Here is what worked for me after the same issue several times. Follow the other instructions to the letter, and add this step. Power off the radio. NEW: Disconnect DC power from the radio -- yes, unplug it. Re-plug the DC power. Then hold the Quick Button, and press the ID-5100 power button. Now the unit goes into Firmware mode. Hopes this helps.

Thanks for the channel support.
Another good tutorial/instructional video. Thanks for sharing.
+TheRealWorldPrepper thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
would it be possible to use a data cable from RT Systems to upgrade icom's firmware on de 5100 and id-51plus.
I don't know - I don't have one of their cables.
Do you have a video on how to install the Bluetooth module and RS-MS1a software? Radio settings and how to troubleshoot? Cannot find it anywhere...
here is the Bluetooth video ua-cam.com/video/SWVwpH4Bm7w/v-deo.html
Great info Hank.

Which resistors?
how can i add rpteare mode to my icom 5100e

+K5PO Andy Correct. Data cable is needed for the firmware.

+Bob Wiesman I think I would start with E1, then progress. Hank
Hello, can the 5100 be updated via the SD card slot? Thank you!
Yes - that is how it's done.

Are you getting a flashing sat. on the control head?
No. Only icon is the SD Card one. It stopped coming up and flashing like normal. This was working a week ago. Thank you for your response. @@Commsprepper
You may have a bad control head. Do you know anyone else with a 5100 where you can swap heads and see what happens?

Just wanted to say thank you Hank for your support. No resolution so it's going back to Icom to repair.
Can the repeater list for locations nearby frequencies be updated with regular FM freqs as well or just DV?
Yes. You set the percent between the two on dstarinfo.com when you update your SD card. I have a video on this in the playlist.
Commsprepper thanks, I'll look for it and check it out
For some reason my 5100 will not go into firmware mode (Quick + Power)? Very strange. Any idea?
Not sure. You may want to call Icom tech support and ask for Fred.
Thanks I will do it on Monday!
Mine is doing the same thing. It wont go into firmware mode. any fix??
what was your answer from Icom ???

witch firmware did you use? there are different firmware updates for the ID5100a
Not sure now. I has been awhile. I believe it was the third release but again I am not sure.
This is dated. I just update on the RT systems software and load it to the radio. Took a few minutes. Easy Peazy!
Yes it is a bit old but people still watch it.
@@Commsprepper Im watching it... I gotta update my 7100 and my 5100. Icome released 3 updates in December 2019
@@Damon_Templar I don't know. I had the 5100 for s short time and no longer have it. Did not have it long enough to do a firmware update.
Wouldn't this be cool... if you could download the firmware update via pactor or other digital mode. :) 73, Chris - W7BBQ
Firmware would be too large but the repeater file could be attached to a pactor email. Might have to make that video.
