I'm just listening to this magic performance of one of my top favourite 6part pieces - in a bar at the Simplon / Sempione pass with soldiers from the Romande area of Switzerland discussing problems with their radio in very loud voices getting through my headphones. Hope to come back to your gem under better circumstances!
Beautifully in tune and expressive! I kept thinking...is there an organ playing in the background? Then I realized it was just the amazing reverb and resonances.
Just remember... Tolkien wrote Misty Mountains for Viol, violin, flute and Harp. Can you imagine how beautiful that song could sound put to historical instruments?
A very beautiful fancy for six viols written by Gibbons, who died brutally during a travel while he was still relatively young. We missed masterworks !!!!
A massive brain hemorrhage, if I recall correctly. The case was highly unusual in that the monarch (Charles I?) suspected it might be a case of poisoning, and ordered a formal autopsy, which was something quite rare in that period.
I think the autopsy was due to the fact that they feared that he died of the plague, it was in fact due to a massive stroke. And that’s what I’m saying.
Whoops. This comment was supposed to be for another video. I’ll comment on this one too. It’s no wonder that a group of gambas were called “Les voix humanes” (the human voices). This is the music of paradise.
This is a recording I listen to regularly and just adore it every time! Gibbons is sadly such a under remembered composer.
Slowing this piece down to experience the wonderful sonorities makes this music so satisfying and meditative.
So beautiful. What a magnificent composer Mr Orlando Gibbons was and this group does him justice.
Absolutely poignantly beautiful and moving beyond words. L'Acheron is unsurpassed in the Early Music word ❤️🙏❤️🙏
Preciosa obra, profunda, espiritual, místicismo y paz interior.
Ca fait plaisir de voir Andreas Linos ! !! Hello !
Very happy to give the 700th like for this beautiful performance.

Schöne Musik. Schöne Menschen. Ohr und Auge sind erfüllt. Glück.
Fantástisca y espléndida interpretación.
This is so beautiful that I had to get the CD. It is so relaxing
Stunning. Beautiful playing and film work.

Yes, and very restrained use of vibrato.
Beautiful.
Breath taking.
Un capolavoro assoluto
Gorgeous blend, beautfiul phrasing - plus, I want to play in that viol group - all the musicians are very good-looking! :-)
magnifique
Ya sea con nueve instrumentos, un sexteto o un trio la armonía que lográis un placer para el oído y el espíritu, gracias.

Yes but music never dies, well not great music like this anyway. One of England’s greatest composers.

Fancy, indeed....

Lovely music
Hello Sarah
Beautiful! A short section of the bass is missing between 1:58 and 2:10?
Je veux apprendre cet instrument
Yeah
Gibt es etwas Schöneres, etwas Runderes, etwas Perfekteres? Nichts fehlt. Die Seele ist genährt und angekommen.
