Eine wunderschöne Umsetzung der verschiedenen Variationen. Und zudem noch mit einer 7seitigen Gambe :D
It is truly wonderful that in this day and age we can just sit in our living rooms and listen to a performance of this calibre on demand. Ridiculous and wonderful.
@Elisha Maam Because it is. Both experience are amazing and it's a wonderful thing. Festivals or parties ? I've been to 3 baroque concerts these 2 last months, maybe you're just not living in an area where they happen a lot. And it's often mostly due to the fact that people don't care about baroque nor classical music, and not at all digitalization's fault.
As a harpsichordist myself, I do agree a concert is a wonderful experience, but being able to listen to this kind a performance, several times a day, for hours, everyday, for free sure makes my love and understanding of music grows. And for that I'm thankful and feel extremely blessed, even though I'm a fool, apparently. :D
Elisha Maam ironic complaining about digitalization and then logging onto a computer, launching UA-cam and calling someone a fool.
Elisha Maam there was never an argument about live vs. digital. My father has Dementia and can’t go to a live concert; but has enough focus to watch a youtube video, so hearing silence vs. a nicely packaged UA-cam video....guess which wins? I go to live shows in my area, but performances like this one would never even be known to most if not for UA-cam.
@Elisha Maam I wish you would realize just how fucking stupid you are
Lara Learns Violin so far about 800,000 have viewed this clip, in the life time of these artists how many people had opportunity to listen to these divine music.
Ooh, she's even using a period-appropriate bow on that violin! That's why you hear all those beautiful swells in the violin's notes. The friction from a Baroque bow is uneven, producing a loudest sound in the middle. Modern bows are more even, but you lose that swell, and it adds such expression to the music of the era.
Yes, They use that kind of bow on those violins, otherwise it's not a trustworthy baroque violin player
Learned something new today. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this, I really didn't think of this detail so far! :D
La folia, madre de todas las variaciones. Como el jazz se puede improvisar indefinidamente hasta subyugarnos y conmovernos..
Y a través de los siglos, desde Rodrigo Martinez en 1490 hasta hoy.
Wow fantasztikus.A világ legjobb zenéje.Köszi.
The viol and harpsichord are two of the most beautiful instruments ever created.
I would add the baroque violin as well.
One more thing: I agree with you the 7-string viol tops the list.
No matter who's variations are played, I NEVER get tired of this music.
Or whose variations.
6 years, 1,2 million views and 700 comments down the road from the recording experience, this piece still melts my heart. Feeling grateful to this wonderful ensemble and a wonderful film crew.
you made it real, dear Klaus! Always grateful to you*******
There is something haunting about the combination of Viola da Gamba & Harpsichord it's like passionate and elegant.
Counting the number of times I could listen to this is like counting stars, and just as beautiful. I always come here after a few months away & it's like hearing it again for the first time. There's always something new in the notes. Simply stunning. Thank you
barroque the best kind of music
And then there's Richard Wagner.
good music comes in many styles from many cultures
Well, if it ain't Baroque, don't fix it!
@@tehualne LOL Relativists...
It's not. It cannot be compared to Classical period.
viola da gamba is so underrated.
Fantástico! 🎼👌🏼
Unfortunately here in Brazil, I've never seen a viola like this. About the price, here it would be about 10.000 coins, the same I paid on my cello (and it's not a very nice cello).
Contact Elimar Plinio Machado, an amazing gambist from Brazil. I beleive he is from Londrina or Brasilia.
Buena suerte! from Argentina.
I played gamba years ago, rented one from a member of the VDGSA way back when. Not only are they expensive but he cost of strings too was a nightmare for young early highschool aged me. After a 6 year absence of playing cello I have picked one up and am now considering buying my own gamba but I also kinda need a power hammer for my blacksmith shop so...decisions decisions.
people are saying - there is no difference between gamba and viola, uh, what??
Speechless. Cannot stop playing this...
The pizzicato on the Gamba is just exquisite!
Henri Lai q
so subtle but beautiful
Beautiful. The harpsichord provides one of the most compelling sounds of the baroque. I can't get enough of this.
One of the pieces here is by the great violinist and composer Alessandro Scarlatti who is the father of Domenico Scarlatti, arguably the greatest composer for the harpsichord and the Chopin of his age.
Who said the classics were boring? This kind of music needs to be played in our schools! Bravo!
For anyone who likes to listen to the many folia compositions, interpretations and variations, this performance is simply out of this world. Who would have thought that it would be possible to surprise and astonish with a new and extraordinary interpretation for a piece that has been played 1000 times and by the best artists.
The folia is not a single composition,it's more like a "genre" of music that evolved through centuries. You can see the evolution from Rodrigo Martinez 1490 in Spain, Jean-baptiste lully 1650 aprox, Marin Maraise in France and Vivaldi in actual Italy.
Bravissimi. Ho scoperto la bellezza del suono prodotto da una viola da gamba. Ciao from Italy
This is one of the finest performances of the La Folia I have ever heard. I listened to several dozens of renditions but this is the top.
YESSS!
Real Gem...unpoluted,unspoiled,pure!!!
When we think about our universe till now we are alone. People of our planet fight each other, just nonsense, stop war. Love music and listen music ,Love from India.
The violinist Lina is stunningly beautiful

One of the all-time greatest music videos.
Exquisite sound, so powerful yet so simple !
thank you!
the viola da gamba player is jamming so hard!! :D Sooo heavy, i love it.
This is the way that 'classical music' should be recorded.
Outstanding sound engineer.
...And beautiful performance. ;}
Esp fine to hear & see it on a large-screen HD screen with a good external sound card (like Sound Blaster) - music lovers should know that computers usually have inferior sound cards.
Wow, both of the women are so beautiful !!! And incredible artists.
so emotional! lovely!
Outstanding musicians!
Every time I hear it, it's like the first time, with an amazing performance!
I just cant believe how is it possible that something so AMAZING like this performance could exist !!! THIS IS SO AMAZINGGGGG !!!

the best trio ever!
Passion, complexity, fantastic camera angles, drama- this is one to add if you are going to be stranded on a deserted island.
The harpsichordist plays with so much grace and expression that tears are blurring my eyes in this moment.
Beyond the sublime music, I must say the production, direction & cinematography are outstanding. A magnificent musical and visual experience. Kudos to all involved.
...как они играют...боже мой...мурашки по коже....браво!!!

Златен лист от цъфнал цвят! Golden camera and director''s work!
A WONDERFUL LISTENING EXPERIENCE. THE VIOLA DA GAMBA PLAYER IS A VIRTUOSO GENIUS I HAVE NEVER HEARD THIS INSTRUMENT USED IN SUCH AN EXUBERANT TOUR DE FORCE.
Très belle folia, un Baroque authentique...
Who in their right mind would go and dislike this video? I DEMAND TO KNOW!!!!!!
A real discovery this one. Never seen a viola da gamba before - amazing.
This is the absolutely pure sound of all instruments, without bumps or interferences, great work in recording, postproduction and mainly playing 10/10
This was my, very impressing, first introduction to the Folia (I just wanted to see the Viola de Gamba in action). In the 24 hours since, I have read about it, watched lots of performances, including Salieri's variations, and played around for half an hour or so on the piano with it. I like it when UA-cam teaches me something I'd otherwise be totally unaware of.
In New Haven,CT,1965, my musicke teacher,Martha Blackman, who had been a gamba player with the New York Pro Musica Antiqua still remains one of the best gamba players in the world. Please check her out

Thank you. I'll certainly do that. I really like the gamba (I'm copying how you referred to it, in hopes that this is how it's commonly called), its tone and look. So I appreciate the recommendation. Do you play it, or were your lessons with her on another instrument?

Oui?
there are 6 (or 7) "gambas" in the family. The viola da gamba (on the leg). the violin or viola da braccia (on the arm), and the violoncello di spalla (on the shoulder). These viola di gambi are often called "viols" . Depends what your group refers them to: I call mine the bass viol, or the bass viola da gamba. Quite a lot to choose from...depending who you're talking to....(Sorry if I've mis-grammered some of the da's and di's.)
I have no words for the beauty of this wonderful music.
This the best video of a musical performance I've ever seen.
Wow....the harpsichordist - er - I mean the harpsichord - is beautiful.
How perfectly politically correct!
David Watermeyer lmao what?
It's amazing that people keep the old music alive by making a great effort! what a wonderful performance!
Batoque melody always
gives me relaxation.
🇬🇧Beautifully played by beautiful people!
Bloody hell, an eye and ear fest. What talent , what instuments, what wonderful music, what a performance, perfection.

Not only the performance strikes me as top notch, the videography is to my mind in a class of its own. Congratulations to all involved on a superb production!
My God, very passionate..
Superb performance, outstanding sound, excellent cinematography.
Listening and watching this is like climbing a ladder to heaven! Perfection!!!
The women are so beautiful.
So amazing congrats on this amazing piece of art
Incredible energy. well done.
It's like the violin and viola are fighting against each other, each of them eager to gain controll over the harpsichord.
The performance is wonderful in general, and from minute 5 the performance is beyond magic!
left me speechless there you guys are amazing!! i hope true passion like this never dies
The Folias provide wonderful and seemingly endless opportunities for musical drama; the chord sequences posses an underlying dramatic logic which contrast light and shade while driving home to a very satisfying harmonic conclusion. A gift to the composer, performer or spontaneous improviser. The film is well thought out too - providing a visual parallel to the musical gestures in the combined scores.
Extraordinaire Que de merveilleux mucisiens ! !La Folia telle dans son état originel !
What a great performance filled with personality. Plus that's the first time I've heard spiccato bowing on the Viola da Gamba @ 2:47 Outstanding!
Yes it is wonderful, that we can hear this wonderful music in our living rooms . What a wonderful thing UA-cam is !
Прекрасное исполнение!
¡Emocionante!
Překrásná hudba, mistrovská interpretace. Děkuji všem třem umělcům za úžasný zážitek. Ludmila z Prahy ❤😊

I’ve seen this performance at least 20 times and each time I feel as if it were my first. ✨
Thrilling genius, and superb performing! It's an eternal classic.
this performance is absolutely jaw-dropping amazing!!!!
Это очень здорово! Замечательная музыка! Исполнение выше всяких похвал...
Varying dynamics, tempi, instrumentation: well played. Many thousand thanks.
Wonderful, many thanks, like it..!! 🎶🎶🎵🎶
Totally gorgeous, stunning and beautiful, thank you so much ...
Cette interprétation est remarquable, parfaitement dans l'esprit baroque
The sounds of these instruments together is marvelous. The Viola da Gamba is so beautiful in its range and tone. The harpsichord comes into its own precisely when harmonizing with other brilliant instruments. This is a beautiful display of what Heracleitus called "the harmony of opposing tensions" in a most brilliant and beautiful way. Thank you.
A performance like this leaves one totally speechless, especially the baroque 🎻,a totally a beautiful performance !
what a funky interpretation of La Folia... love all the excess of playing in this version, of the camera work, dare i say operatic, truly passionate Baroque spirit.
Bravo! Браво! Это музыка!!!
Viola da Gamba is absolutely superb, the whole combination is an emotional journey, grateful appreciation.
