I appreciate you not just saying "lol whm easy" actually acknowledging the mp management, lack of movement tools, and lilly planning in higher content. It definitely has a lower skill floor than the other heals, but does have its moments too
Thank you for highlighting those things! That is exactly it! White Mage's skill floor is lower because the basics of the role are much easier to perform, but once you get to optimizing, White Mage also has its own difficulties to overcome! 😊
@@CaetsuChaijiCh I've been a heal main since Omega, bounced between sch and ast for a while before finally saying I'm going whm this tier, I really wish I'd done it sooner as it's just kind of fun. Doesn't have to be overly complex to be enjoyable, and I've solo healed p5s and p6s just for the fun of it at this point
It heals more, easily, by far, it doesnt mean its braindead. I hate the people who say as such... theres been so much to learn per healer, but yes, whm has the simplest and most effective tools overall.
I think the overall power of the healers come down to how well you can plan ahead: WHM is the most powerful if you find yourself reactionary healing and needing to pick up the pieces after a lot of pain has been dealt to the party. SGE and SCH are even more powerful, but only if you learn to precast and mitigate so you can avoid the majority of pain. AST is the most powerful, but only if you play 4D chess with precasting and PRE-precasting so the party can ignore damage almost entirely. Sadly I'm not gigabrain enough to use AST at the level where it shines brightest.
I think that is an excellent summary yeah! 😊 And then AST also needs to plan their damage with card plays that optimally needs to be played extremely quickly and account for rng, so it gets very convoluted!
Before I picked up AST which is my main now, I def played every other role in tank and dps, to understand damage rotation. I've always been a fan of micro managing, and love support class types in every game so AST just felt at home to be but I do advise for anyone who picks up AST to try DPS and TNK first so you can have a much better understanding of when to use certain abilities.
@@joseruiz4075 That is really good advice! In fact, I very much recommend trying out as many different jobs, if not at the very least roles, as you can to get a broader perspective, even if you highly prefer a specific job! Getting the broader perspective can improve your skill at any job, by simply understanding how the other jobs play! Even something as specific as maining Samurai, and understanding somewhat how the Black Mage rotation works so you know how to play around it in party content! 😊
@@joseruiz4075 I think this is good advice for everyone honestly. Try out every role and see what their needs are. I became a LOT better at tanking bosses/trash packs in the right position after playing a few of the melee jobs, and rotating my cooldowns after trying out a few of the healers, for example.
@@toodleselnoodos6738 That's fair. Every player is gonna have their preferred comfort zone... and being comfortable with your kit is more important than anything.
I just love being a white mage. Its a classic for me. But more then that im proud of how far ive come with being in a healer role. Another reason i love white mage is its animation.. you freaking grow light wings and you float when casting spells.
I know folks recommend WHM as the 1st healer to play but I jumped in head 1st with SGE as my 1st healer because it looked the most interesting and fun to play out of the 4 healer. I wasn't wrong in that as I REALLY enjoy playing SGE! Working on the other 3 healers now but I have a STRONG feeling they won't be as fun to play.
Hey, if Sage is what motivated you to try the role, and you found it fun to start with, thats all that matters! The main reason White Mage is commonly recommended as your first healer is because it gives a much easier start on learning all the mechanics, which can be more difficult to grasp than other roles 😊 Glad to hear you have fun with the healers though!
Really Scholar would probably be a good first healer because even if you're shit at first in those early dungeons the fairy heals enough to do your job for you even if you don't.
I suppose that is also a good argument! Hmm on the other hand if you learn by having most of the healing done automatically you might be poorly prepared when you reach content where the faerie isn't enough on its own anymore!
That is an interesting point! I was going to say bio is supposed to be poison, but both biolysis and art of war somehow have a more techy feel to them so I can see what you mean there! 😅
@@frankk1358 You don't have to enjoy all the jobs in the game! I know a lot of players skipped Scholar completely due to the pet mechanics alone, so if there is something about the job you don't enjoy, that is also absolutely okay! 😊
Scholar is my first and currently my main job for high-end content. I decided to start this game as SCH because i want to try out "shield healer" which was kinda new to me at that time, and the fact that SCH got a cute fairy. A lot of people asked me why I play SCH instead of SGE. SGE might be regarded as fun and 'easier' than SCH, but i find it less fun and less useful overall. I used to play SGE in the last tier, but switched back mid-tier because SCH just hit the spot. I cannot count how many time fully buff Adlo-Deployment tactic can completely negate the need to heal in certain mechanics thus saving a lot of resources and time to get into position. I even used it to take a tank buster. I just can't get enough of that THICC shield. Excogitation and Fae Union are perfect for tank busters. SCH also got a raid buff. Expedient pre-nerf was also extremely strong as the second raid-wide sprint that lasts 20s, making a lot of mechanics much easier than they should. Still, SGE can clutch heal a lot better than SCH imo, easier to get dmg reduction and regen on everyone too because no one want to stay inside Sacred Soil, pretty great mobility, and insta-cast shields required much less timing. If your co-healer died, SCH which relies heavily on shielding-mitigation, will run out of resources for raw healing. SGE, on the otherhand, is heavier on healing-mitigation so it will be alot better in handling such situation. I actually recommend SGE if you have background in Tank or DPS role and want to get into healing role but find WHM to be extremely boring.
I personally just play SCH because it shares a base job with SMN, so it's always my first raid ready healer of an expansion since it makes clearing the MSQ fast (SMN for everything else, SCH for duty finder). Eventually swap off casters entirely tho since I'm a melee DPS main
Such a wonderful comment! I too chose SCH cause 1) Scholar was my favorite job from FF3 that barely gets any love, 2) I heard it was the hardest class (of healer) to play, and 3) A pet-based healer sounds awesome! But ya, I love your post and speaks to a truly experienced barrier healer!
I dont like sage because EVERYONE plays sage. Too popular for my taste. I play sch more now because it was most difficult for me to learn and most people dont play sch
Finally, a video that explains Scholar in a way that doesnt make it sound like it's the worst class ever. It's been my main from level 30 to modern content and i could'nt agree more on your descriptions of it. There's nothing quite like getting the raid or dungeoun down so well you can use all your aether on damage.
I feel like a lot of players get too caught up in the memes that sage is "easier Scholar" and forget that they each have their own advantages and disadvantages 😊 I'm glad you love Scholar! I think it's a wonderful job too and play it quite a lot! 😄
Love this guide. Im a sprout so gaining some information helped a lot with my first heal job. I went with SGE first. But eventually im going to pick up AST. One day SCH and WHM will be added to list. Lastly thanks for the guide
I'm glad you found it helpful! Good luck on your journey as astrologian! If you are interested, I have guides for the job on the channel in case you need it! 😊 Here is a link to the starter one beginning from level 30: ua-cam.com/video/Rqc7Dt7yHIo/v-deo.html
I've only very recently gotten into FF14 and had decided to pick healing as my main class since I've always been fond of being the supportive role. I started out as a White Mage which felt fun but sometimes a bit boring up until I unlocked the Lilies and the more elaborate spells. Upon Heavensward I've switched to Astrologian and it's been a very fun kind of chaotic gameplay. It's sometimes tedious to both watch mechanics, play the cards correctly AND keep people healed, but the constant pressure and attention you need to put into it is very amusing to me.
That is great to hear! Some players just enjoy the difficulty of a harder job too, so it is great that you found a job that fits what you enjoy in a healer! 😊
Yeah, my first healer was Astro, and I rather liked juggling cards and regens, even more so once I got to use Earthy star and minor arcana as well. Too the point where trying to lv some classes left me bored haha. I just started on Scholar, and boy is that boring at low levels, but now that I can AoE it's more fun now. And also I can glam Eos into Carbie now.
I just finished leveling my WHM and as someone who has been unwilling to the point of idiocy to heal before, I find the job so much fun. I tried Sage, and while alright I just find more satisfaction in the WHM abilities. Most spells just feel awesome (Except Cure. It’s on the bara stuck into a corner). The job really feels like a white MAGE. Not just simply a healer with a few pewpew spells. Dungeons are immensly fun with double holy and assize on packs to open. The cc component on Holy makes it a great mitigation tool as well. It just feels so well rounded which is just what I like and I can easily plan for damage mitigations. The floaty quality feels very ethereal too even on my brute Roe male. I main tank otherwise so knowing how tanks work and play helps alot.
Thank you for your input! It is interesting to hear about other's experiences with the jobs! I have a hypothesis that Sage tends to resonate well with tanks due to the management of the Damage Reduction being a bit reminiscent of Defensive cooldown cycling, so it is extra interesting to hear other perspectives as well! 😊
I never finished leveling AST because it just seems way to complicated for the payoff. WHM is a very clean reactive healer and easy to play. SCH feels the safest to play. I can always have shields out and my faerie takes care of the small stuff leaving me feel like I'm never in panic mode. SGE is really fun and interactive. It can get really stressful if you have a WoW tank who spins the mobs all the time trying to dodge mechanics or if they aren't using their cooldowns. I'm still fairly new to the game, but I play SGE, SCH and WHM all in the current raid tier and love them all, but SCH/SGE are my favorites. Thanks for the videos, love your content!
That is understandable! If you want to try Astrologian anyway, just remember that playing all the cards in bursts isn't necessary to learn immediately! You can always introduce that later when you feel more comfortable with the job! Personally, I also feel a lot more at home with barrier healers like Scholar and Sage, too! ^^ Thank you so much! :D
Astrologian can be quite overwhelming with the buttons, but as they are introduced gradually, it might not be as overwhelming if you acquaint yourself with each action when you learn it! 😊 But astrologian is not easy regardless! 😅
The biggest issue with the SCH and SGE comparison is that SGE's Eukrasian Diagnosis shield is considered more potent by the game because of the Addersting gauge, even if the shield only has 1hp left. Because of this, it can never be overwritten by SCH's Adlo shield. Eukrasian Prognosis's shield is a different buff and can be overwritten by SCH's Adlo or Succor. So many times during roulettes and PF where I go as a SCH, get the prepull big Adlo shield on the party, and the SGE just puts their shield on the tank and wastes my shield or worse, puts a shield before I can use Deployment Tactics, wasting all those shield buffs and we actually have to heal after the first raid wide.
Indeed, that is an awkward problem! This is certainly not helped by many sages getting a habit of applying a shield if they have to move anyway, since it is instant 😅
My thought process for being a scholar main was choosing arcanist because the class blurb said I could summon stuff, and when I found out that it could “evolve” into a healer, I knew I’d found my calling
While my main job is dps, i play a lot as sch for my group, mainly for secondary healing And let me tell you, it so satisfying to be able predict who's gonna get hit for mechanic When they thought that they will die, they actually alive with either shield or exoc
Earthly Star and Horoscope feel like the Astro abilities that are the most difficult to figure out how best to use. I'd rack my brain over how to time earthly star for its heals and it actually turns out that using it pre-pull and keeping it on cooldown generally lines it up with some incoming damage. You have a 20 second window in which you can use it, making it surprisingly flexible. It also has the added benefit of putting its damage in raid buffs. It also compliments how busy your 2 minute bursts are. Having the earthly star down before raid buffs means you'll heal up damage without even having to do anything. Horoscope is a pretty weak heal, but still useful just cuz its free. Also should definitely be used if you ever plan on gcd healing. Pop neutral sect too and you can make mechanics very comfy on damage for only spending one gcd heal. The usefulness of horoscope and neutral sect is a lot more apparent if you do ultimates where there's a lot of downtime, but can still be good in savage. Also, do not be afraid to gcd heal, on any healer. Especially in prog, you're gonna want to gcd heal quite a bit. Trying to go without gcds before you have mit and heal plans, and before you have good gear, is just gonna cause wipes. Obviously you don't want to spam them but not using gcds is something you have to work up to. Watch any early clears of savage raids and you'll see plenty of gcd casts.
That is some solid advice, thank you for adding this Envinyon! Those tips about GCD healing are super helpful for all healers in general. And honestly, it is good advice for mastering and learning healing in general! For a completely new sprout, working your way up to feeling comfortable with not using GCD heals is also something you learn with time, but knowing that this is still something you have to figure out at the highest difficulty of the game is also great! ^^
True that. The testing team seems give feedback for scripted healing in recent content. I play SCH and a lot of the big raidwides line up perfectly with Crit-Deploy.
Back in the days of Cleric Stance, I could pretty easily out-DPS a lot of actual DPS classes on Scholar in many situations due to having multiple DoTs and Bane, and also Shadow Flare. It was a good feeling lol. Also, RIP Fey Wind and Fey Caress. I miss the faeries having unique skills instead of just being the equivalent of Scholar pet glamour...
Yeah, it feels like all of the attacking complexity was cut out to make space for more healing tools 😕 What pet you used making a difference is also something I really miss, both for Scholar and summoner 😔
Well silences have since evolved to interrupts, and if a spell is interruptible then it would be very convenient to have a healer that can also interrupt! 😊
@@Phoenix-cc7xb Silent Dusk was amazing. Not sure why they felt the need to remove it. It really doesn't break SCH or anything. I mean, Holy has ALWAYS had a stun effect, which no other healer ever had (except AST's Celestial Opposition, back when it was basically their Assize)...so why take away SCH's interrupt? Just give something similar to the other healers. Oh well. Maybe one day.
They removed selenes toolkit as a whole with the release of shadowbringers. Remember, choosing Selene also meant no whispering dawn back in the day. So I think they removed it to remove the choice between defense (eos) and offense (Selene) just like they did for tank stances 😊
I only started healing this year as a White Mage & I'm actually enjoying it. I did have some ups & downs in the lower levels but now I can heal without any issues. After I reach level 90 with my WHM, I'm going to unlock Sage & make that my main healer class. :)
That is awesome! It also sounds like a great plan you have set for yourself! Having experience with both a pure healer like WHM, and a barrier healer like Sage is a very great foundation to get great at healing in general!
@@CaetsuChaijiCh Yeah it is. One of my friends who is in my FC, recommended starting out as White Mage & then once I'm fully maxed level, they said that I can go with Sage. She's also a lvl 90 White Mage & mentor in the game. :)
As a relatively new player, here are my takes: WHM: My main up until I got SGE. Big chonk heals are nice to have when you don't know the content well, and the stuns from Holy make WtWs a lot less stressful. When you DO know the content, however, the lack of preventative measures becomes apparent. You gotta love the thermonuclear blood bomb tho. SCH: I don't know, there's something about this that never clicked with me. I can't really articulate any specific reasons. Maybe I should give it another try sometime, but something about its skillset just feels... ehh. I _wanted_ to like it at least. AST: Look. I know my limits. I have neither the galaxy brain nor the keyboard dexterity to keep up with everything going on here. A fumbling, indecisive healer makes for a dead team, so I won't burden other players with my poor AST performance. SGE: My beloved. Lovely damage reduction via buffs, shields, and... "threat removal". But the thing that drew me to the job? The thing that compelled me to grab it despite only barely being done with 3.0 MSQ? Kardia. My monkey brain LOVES healing by going ham on the attack spells. I can see how people would see eternal Dosis spam as boring, but for me it just gives that delightful neuron activation moment. I am your doctor today, and I am here to KILL!
I love the explanations! Personally I find myself leaning more so towards AST since my wife plays Warrior and my kids play random DPS. Makes picking and choosing who I buff vastly easier for me 😅 When I run roulettes with randos I've found it easier to to play as AST thanks to my families party setup.
@@CaetsuChaijiCh Funny part is that I met my wife on FF14 going on 13 years ago now, decided to meet up IRL, got married a year later, had no clue I was playing with my future wife AND step kids till we all met up. 😂
I started healing as a scholar, then sage, then astro... i havent touched white mage yet. Scholar also levels summoner at the same time which for a new player that may not have the time to run up multiple classes quickly(or want to pay) can be a nice thing.
God, cleric stance xD that's a throwback. Brings back memories of trying to get protect on the tank before they sprinted off in bardem's mettle to take massive damage lol. Been healing since stormblood and have my main healer in sage now. Really enjoyed hearing your summary of all the healers. Think you did a fantastic job explaining their strengths and differences. I joke with my static that sage is my favorite dungeon healer because if the tank doesnt mitigate I can do it for them lol
I started the game as Bard until lv 30 and then changed right away to Astro.... yeah I apparently picked one of the hardest classes to learn as a sprout but ngl it saved the game for me. I was bored of the simple gameplay of low lvl bard and felt way more challanged as astro! I am so glad I became astro main~
That's excellent! Naturally some players enjoy the harder jobs of course, so it's just a good thing you found just the job for you! 😊 I assume what you meant is that you played bard until you reached astrologian, given it unlocks once you reach heavensward? 😊
Working on getting a conjuror up to 30 for that unicorn mount. After that I’m out of the healing game. I can’t have that type of responsibility while playing video games.
If you don't like healing in mmos that's alright 😊 but personally I feel while the healer has the responsibility of doing the healing, a lot of the stuff the healer gets "blamed for" is a party wide responsibility 😁 I also feel that healing in low levels is a completely different world than higher levels since you only have the basic healing spells which make it scarier (no panic buttons)! By the way, did you know you are awarded another mount for getting all jobs (except sage and reaper) to level 80? 😊
An option, should you ever want to get all your jobs to 90 (100 for 7.0), you could use Duty Support and Trusts on your healer jobs, that way you're not responsible for other people's enjoyment. It's what I've been doing, though I also do MSQ roulettes as healer sometimes, because it's familiar enough and predictable enough to not spike that anxiety. And a nice bonus with the practically instant queues. My friend mains WHM and I've considered co-healing with them for 8 man content at some point, but ... not quite there yet 😅
I started life in FFXIV as a Scholar. Finished the MSQ with Scholar. When I switched to White Mage, my first two weeks were a living hell comprised of wondering why I never had any MP, and wondering why everyone else in the raid was suddenly so squishy. (For the uninitiated, a Scholar's fairy does so much heavy-lifting that without it, if feels like everyone suddenly has half the hitpoints.) Still, now that I understand White Mage, it's easily my go-to for Savage and Ultimate. It's very difficult to kill a tank if a White Mage doesn't want them killed.
I've been healing as a Scholar (still in Heavenward) and it's quite underwhelming to play in open world. I'm sure it gets better at higher levels, but you basically just hit Bio, then Ruin x 1000 and eventually the enemy dies. There's just no attacks except Art of War which is a group attack and requires you to run into a mob of enemies to execute and the Aetherflow attacks are boring and not that's strong either. Watching this video and seeing that White Mage and Sage have the highest potential damage output makes a lot more sense to me now. I want to main a healer, but I also want to have fun in open world when healing isn't a need. I think I will grind to lvl 70 and unlock Sage. It's seems to have more of what I'm wanting. Thanks for the video!
I'm glad to hear my video helped you! I do want to mention though that the main thing Sage has over Scholar is Phlegma and Toxikon to manage I think - Its not a lot! But thinking about it, those two things alone can add a lot more flavor to the rotation, so it might just be what you need! 😊 I know a lot of players find the attacking rotations of all the healers somewhat dull, especially in the open world where Scholar and Sage practically outheal all attacks automatically.😅
@@CaetsuChaijiCh Gotcha! Thank you! That may be just enough for me, lol. I don't need a super complex rotation. I just need enough so that my mind doesn't go idle from only hitting 2 buttons for 5 minutes straight, lol. I really enjoy the healing role in dungeons but sometimes I'm just hitting ruin and forget I need to heal. It's not the most mentally stimulating. Of course, I'm only at lvl 58, so there's more complexity I'm sure as it gets higher. (I also really like the look of Sage...)
Definitely! Scholar has a bit of a slow start in their healing toolkit as a whole, but they do get a lot of tools - but so does sage! If you like the look of sage, I think that is also a great reason to play it! 😊 In fact, you mentioning that it can get a bit sleepy to spam Ruin endlessly with nothing in between, the fact that Sage has to actively move around Kardia (or at least has the option to) gives you something extra to do and watch for when the fights get a bit slow 😁
@@CaetsuChaijiCh Yeah, that sounds like a bit more to work with, even if slightly, that would make it more interesting. Thanks for the advice! Spamming Ruin as a Scholar I start to feel like that meme "It's been 84 years..." 😂
I get it, although I usually solved that by splitting up my Quest/ Open-world play vs. duty play. A healer isn't that fulfilling in solo play, obviously, so I just switch to to SMN since they share levels. I gathered SMN gear through story quests and SCH gear through duties. And since they are bound together lore-wise, I didn't lose the immersive element too much.
Great video! Ive recerntly picked FFXIV back up (played 1.0 a bit and ARR but stopped for years) My main was a WHM, but only got to 65, so I started a new character and am now SCH. Definitely loving SCH, at level 50 now, but want to check out SGE and AST looks fun too. I cant decide!! I mostly dont want to go back to level 30 to pick up AST, so may just stick to SCH till I can unlock SGE. Really want to prioritize getting at least one job to 90 before I think about other jobs.
That is a reasonable way to go about it! Just don't force yourself to stick to a specific one all the way to 90 if you actually would rather play the other one, since the most important part is having fun with it! 😁 Also welcome back to Eorzea!
I absolutely loathe the WHM, and do not use it since I got it to 90. The MP management (prior to lily abilities) made it a nightmare for me that I have not recovered from. The SCH or SGE is my go-to, but I still play AST for fun. The only thing I miss about the SCH is back when Energy Drain replenished MP instead of HP. It took some adjustment in my playstyle to compensate, but I was able to find a new groove.
Yeah it's fortunate that the lily situation has been fixed 😊 Regarding Scholar, energy drain actually used to give both! 😊 And while they removed the mp recovery from energy drain (500 mp each), they doubled the mp from aether flow, so you felt less like energy drain was an mp value proposition, and more just for the damage 😊 But I get what you mean! I also tend to prefer the barrier healers for most content!
If you have not healed before, I do recommend trying out Conjurer/White Mage first to get the basics! Its also the only healer that starts at level 1, so the skills get introduced gradually!😊
Sage is my first healer I learned, then astro, then white mage, then scholar. - Scholar has so many buttons including pet management that it confuses me at the beginning, also I feel the aetherflow limits what the job can do if you happen to run out of it at the wrong time. I am always anxious that the faerie heal won't reach the tank so I ended up just standing close to tank. - I found sage healing is pretty weak if needing to top everyone quickly, but overall fun class with lots of insta-cast and has cool futuristic aesthetic. - I enjoy astrologian a lot as it throws decent heals+regens and can act like a proper support class, so I feel more useful to the group. The card system is easy once you realised that blue outline = dps/tank, purple outline = ranged/healer. - White mage is my least favourite due to a lot of abilities needing cast times, and lack of skills variety so it's kinda boring. It's mainly big heals and that's about it... Overall I use astrologian and sage the most :)
Thank you for your perspective 😊 There are some tricks that sage can use to heal for quite a lot without spending everything, but it is true that barrier healers are rough once they are out of cooldowns!
SCH was the first job i played after getting Arcanist to 30. Then once i reached HW, AST became my main since i had always wanted to play it. It was my first job to 80 at the time. WHM was one of the last jobs i got to 80, i still find it boring to play at 90
Awesome video! As someone who really can’t get into leveling WHM, I like the insight into its kit. I do want to mention though, I don’t really agree with SGE being easy to master. Maybe I’m biased since I’m a SCH to SGE convert. I say this because there’s a certain level of extra decision making and toolkit interactions that make it obvious when a SGE knows their kit vs watching one of the many “How to play SGE” guides out there. Though, it admittedly has a pretty low skill floor since you really can auto-pilot in dungeons as you said. For mastery, NOT managing their Addersgall is probably the most obvious offender. When that timer stops, you’re not getting MP recovery and my experience has been that burning the stack helps you stay afloat. This is like.. BASIC basic stuff that a SGE should know. I think Kardia swapping is a lot more important to SGE kit than people have decided. If we’re drawing similarities to Embrace, then it’s obvious that we should be moving it as intake demands. Likewise, SGE’s PvP kit requires it to have Kardia on an ally to shield them, making it integral to its gameplay. I think a lot of the ideas of PvP can apply to PvE and vice versa. (RDM for example benefits from the concept of balancing both black and white mana. In PvP this takes the form of the player choosing or applying effects from black/white shift.) Decision making in action is similar to AST, in my opinion, except it’s not centered around distributing cards. Naturally, it doesn’t require as much knowledge of others’ classes. For example, the aforementioned Kardia swapping is important, yes, but if you Druochole wouldn’t overheal and/or your addersgall timer is about to pause, getting value from the otherwise thrown-away heal is probably better. Kardia swapping off of the tank is pretty beneficial, too, especially during Raids since it opens the tank up to getting full value from a Taurochole (e.g DPS takes damage; either kardia swap or Druochole DPS. The time spent having Kardia on DPS means Tank doesn’t receive passive healing, allowing Taurochole to make fuller use of its heal component.) Likewise, there’s a bunch of other factors that make SGE mastery not-so-easy. There are basic things like using Haima to make Kardia swapping safer or prioritizing Soteria > Haima if *its your current Kardia target that needs extra healing*; more advanced things like timing Panhaima to mitigate 200p damage, expire to provide an Ixochole-level 400p healing, and potentially having the lingering 200p barrier provide extra mitigation. SGE even has niche things like converting EVERY safety/downtime Eukrasian Prog/Diag into extra throughput by snapshotting raidwides/tankbusters/any damage with Pepsis (30p when using it like Emergency Tactics bUt iN rEvErSe; 350p heal AND 100% of the barrier is consumed when used as a parry) I think that there’s a lot more to SGE than people give it credit for. The potent tools at its disposal has led most of the community to believe that there isn’t much potential to be had and, from that, haven’t put extra effort to get more value.
Those are a lot of great points, Zusuru! I myself also switched from mainly healing as sch, to sge, mainly due to a few select conveniences primarily related to kerachole, taurochole and instant shield spells 😊 I am willing to admit I may have underestimated the mastery difficulty of the job due to having a lot of experience with the toolkit myself, but I do genuinely find it more difficult to maximize the performance of ast, sch and even whm due to each their own difficulties and challenges 😁 Still, as I said, I do appreciate you sharing your perspective, as it also teaches me both some extra tricks for the job, as well as allowing me to have a broader perspective to share in the future 😁
i was a blm main in arrr, picked ast in heavensward and have mained it since (much rage at the changes over the years). so i laughed when you recommended not doing ast as your first healer cuz i figured after blm ast would be cake
Scholar just feels...Disjointed to me. I like Sage a lot though, and WHM was my main from ARR-HW, it's my one lvl 90 job with proper ilvl gear for 90, so i use it to unsync, and when i just feel like healing. AST is fun but a little complicated since you want to keep a lot of things off cooldown.
That makes sense. The Scholars toolkit being split between it's own things, and the pet might make it feel that way. But it does sound like you have fun with most of the healers at least! 😊
Funny. The most complex healer made me adore the role when I first got into this game properly. Before then I played dragoon for a realm reborn because I liked the idea of jumping on shit...but the second I got to try astrologian I fell in love with this game. Healing my team and empowering them. Creating a massive shield to protect my team from party wide hits. Buffing my entire party for damage. Constant regens. Sure I may not do the most damage but what I utterly adore is keeping my team going and protecting them all while the gorgeous blasts of magic and stellar light surrounds me and my team. The other healer classes are fun but I will forever love astrologians gigantic kit of tools to fill tons of small roles alongside healing
I honestly have had a hard time with Sage. I really want to enjoy the class, but I find myself in dungeons running out of shields to apply, and people taking massive amounts of damage that I can't out heal. Got my Sage to 90 when Endwalker first dropped, but I was panic / struggle healing for most of it. Used to main White Mage, but I honestly get tired of spamming holy all the time. I hear it in my sleep.
The scary thing about Sage is that you have to trust the healing from Kardia, and the damage reduction and heal over time effects from abilities like Physis and Kerachole to do a huge amount of the heavy lifting - especially in dungeons. You want to make use of the tank's entire HP bar and plan out your moves, and not try to shield them whenever the shield isn't up (some players try to do this, and tend to run out of MP trying). Sage's toolkit is extremely dependent on being used very efficiently, so if you toss resources and cooldowns at anything and everything, you are bound to run out of things. Naturally, this happens for all healers if you do that, but Sage (and Scholar) are significantly more in danger if they run out of cooldowns. I am not sure exactly what it is for you that makes Sage difficult, but you could try watching the guides I have put up more recently on Sage (both a level 70 starter, and a level 71-90 including endgame stuff), or you could watch the VOD from my Sage Duty Roulette stream to see how I play Sage :-) Starter guide: ua-cam.com/video/eIIxZU_x2sU/v-deo.html Level 71-90 guide: ua-cam.com/video/X-qIQtApepI/v-deo.html Short demonstrating Dungeon pulls for Sage: ua-cam.com/users/shorts52T4BFrOyNE Sage Duty Roulette Stream VOD: ua-cam.com/users/liveGKIxmnHcxXk I hope some of this helps you so you can get a bit of time away from White Mage! ^^
Haha when i got to HW i had only been leveling my first job, which was monk, and noticed that i waa gonna ram the cap like that, so i decided to pick up a second job ever to level up... And i didnt feel like grinding up from lv1 so i just picked up astro, " i guess ill learn healing here..." Astro is my first lv90 job, i love it.
As a WHM, I kinda forget that like... I have utility spells to make my life easier (namely Thin Air and Asylum). So you reminding me of "You can use thin air to revive and poof, it's like it never even happened" just revolutionized a small part in my brain. "Yo. We don't have to spend mana on rev anymore. We can spend more on Glare." "Yo good idea brain, thank you for finally reminding me, brain."
Shockingly, *every time* I play White Mage I forget it myself, and have to remember suuuuper late in a fight, and usually only if I need to raise many times! So don't feel bad for forgetting, it is like it has a special fog that makes you forget it exists... Like Thin Air! :D
Start healer jobs with Schoolar because I already play summoners and I don't found it too hard to learn, not to master but learning is quite simple in my opinion.
I’ve thus video before actually starting the game so far I got my scholar at lvl 77 and I’m about to start heavenward 😳🤫 With that said just started playing as the astrologer but its kinda extra work just because to me lol I kinda enjoy barrier healing cause I can game plan early and let thing play out I haven’t unlock sage and I skipped wht mage cause I’m lazy so I needed 2 jobs in one lol scholar/summoner Great video I probably just a barrier healer now I want to get tanking down next
Thank you! I hope it helped with some of your decisions in choosing healers ^^ Scholar/Summoner is a nice job to start with if you aren't sure if you want to be a DPS or a Healer. As you go beyond level 50, the two jobs start to use different gear so it can get difficult to maintain both simultaneously, but that shouldn't deter you from playing both despite that! :D Personally I also lean a bit more towards barrier healers, so I get that! ^^
Tbh imo astro only have high raid damage in a well optimised team. During unoptimised situations, such as people dying, buffs unaligned due to whatever reasons. I’d rather go whm for higher damage.
This is true. Since Astrologian relies more heavily on people actually performing during the buffs it hands out, the performance of the Astrologian - damage wise - is entirely based on whether your party actually performs. Scholar sort of has a similar problem, where Chain Strategem only really is super useful if people make use of the burst time, and additionally, every time the Scholar has to spend Aetherflow on healing, they lose out on a bit of potential damage. Essentially, Sage and White Mage, who has the better personal damage, are much less dependent on their party really bringing it!
I was made thru fire Ast is the 1st healer I leveled thru dungeon spam and I love it. Over regen the crap out of that tank and go nuts on dps, Earthly Star will cure you when it pops and kills that trash pack. I did Sage thru msq only and never had to learn how to heal as for Sch... I just played Smn and the extra 90 job was a perk.
My path to level the healers is a rather weird one. I first took Sage because they start at a higher level. Then I leveled the Scholar as a bonus to the Summoner. Now I am leveling White mage. I am not sure when I may have the courage to touch astrologian and its weird kit
That is a very interesting path Indeed! On the bright side with astrologian, it's toolkit comes gradually, so you won't immediately have to deal with all it's weirdness! 😅
Astro was actually the first healer I played and the only one that I like. All of the others have charges that need to be managed. Astro’s “charges” are just the cards which I enjoy giving people damage buffs. All of the healing spells just have mp cost and cool downs. No shard resource management needed as well.
Honestly, even if astro is the hardest healer to master, I find astrologian the easiest and I understand it the best, much better than sage and white mage And for scholar, I did not really bother playing it, since it levels together with summoner
Astrologians toolkit is surprisingly distinct from the White Mage toolkit, even with both being pure healers, compared to Sage and Scholar who have nearly the exact same toolkit in a lot of respects, just presented in slightly different ways. For that reason, I totally understand how, if you main Astrologian specifically, it absolutely would make it the easiest to play! Besides, at the highest skill ceiling, all four healers have some distinct details that can make them easier or harder depending on circumstances, so it is possible that Astrologian may be easier (in general) to play in certain situations 😊
Ironically I find AST to be far easier to understand than SGE, but that's probably because I have 30+ levels of playing AST so far in comparison to not even touching SGE for a single level (I unlocked it and saw the absolute chaos that my crossbar became and was like "Yeah no" lol. Doesn't help that all the names just blend together). WHM is the only other healer I have leveled. Maybe I just prefer pure healers over putting up shields thinking about it now...
I hope it is worth the wait! I try to put the big video every week on Saturdays with some time for people to plan around it because it gives you a better chance of joining me for the premiere! Still, sorry for forcing you to wait, but I really appreciate the excitement! ^^
11 months late to the video, but I do have to disagree on Astrologian's mobility being as good as Sage's (let alone better than White mage's) considering that Lightspeed as you mentioned is very often used more as an opener tool than a mobility tool.
White Mage: Starter pure healer, pretty, cool animations, BLOOD LILY! Astro: Advanced pure healer, also pretty, "cheating button" (Macrocosmos), Probably frothing at the mouth seeing a dps die/get a damage down after being handed a card. Scholar: Advanced barrier healer, fairy?, cool playstyle, not (buff/support) difficult, probably eaten one too many fairies in their time. Sage: Starter barrier healer, got a glock and TikTok, has both strengths of pure and barrier, devs fixed Phlegma 3 to fit in 2min window perfectly fine, will definitely send you a TikTok relating to your healer job.
Its great that you found the healer job just for you, especially if you have since found out the other three probably wouldn't have inspired you as much! 😊
Honestly I will never understand the sage thing. I simply cannot keep the party alive with it during raids, and the only way to do that seems to be having warrior that selfheals every pull while I use all my mana and abilities trying to desperately keep the two others and the warrior alive. The worst part of it is that usually tanks pull much faster than the cooldowns on heavy shielding spells meaning that if you use all shielding on the first pull, you will likely wipe on the second one, but if you don't use them all, you have to make small pulls or wipe (vanaspati is the worst about this one)
While some tanks are not exactly helping, by doing hardly anything themselves, spacing out your cooldowns throughout a pull seems to work just fine in most cases. The instant sage has to stop attacking to spam heal is also a problem, because when you stop attacking, the enemies die way slower (yes, healer aoe is significant), so you need to survive for even longer. If you have reached level 90 with the job, you naturally have played it, but I don't know what advice to give because it sounds like you are pressing your cooldowns 😕
I don't know if you have seen them, but I do have both a Starter Guideand a level by level guide (including max level stuff) for Sage, which suggests healing strategies. I even have a short that showcases exactly the strategy that I use for healing as a Sage. That is not to say there is only one way to do it, but if it feels like what you do isn't working, you could check those out and see if it helps! Whenever you get back into the game of course! ^^
I like playing SGE well enough, but the Toxikon mechanic just doesn't mesh, what with having to use E. Diagnosis to get the tokens that are only usable by a spell that does as much damage as Dyskrasia. Sure it's useful for movement without having to get close, but what's the point in wasting time and MP for something that isn't stronger than other attacks? Edit: wrong spell lmao.
I get what you mean. I think the purpose is that if they made it cost just MP and be a spammable attack on the move, then it would be identical to Scholars ruin 2, which naturally does significantly less damage than broil meaning it is always a dps loss. Choosing your spots and applying shields at the right time means you can generate the adderstings almost for free, and that means you have a ranged attack that (at max level) is equal to dosis in damage, and actually stronger than dyskrasia by a tiny bit, while being ranged and usable while moving 😊 Toxikon is a little strange, but it adds an interesting aspect to the job I feel!
Honestly, I’d rather they just remove Dyskrasia and make Toxikon 1 the default AoE of the SGE. I personally hate they copied that part from SCH. Instead, Adder’s Sting should work like it does in PvP, upgrading Toxikon 1 to Toxikon 2. Except, I’d have Toxikon 1 be at the same damage of Dyskrasia, while Toxikon 2 deals the same damage as Dosis and Dyskrasia damage to those around it. Where do you get your Adder’s Sting from? You could instead make Dyskrasia a 1 min button that grants 3 charges of Adder’s Sting. So, functionally, it serves a similar purpose as Lilies, Ruin 2, and Lightspeed for SGEs, which is a way to maintain their full DPS during mobility and increased DPS during AoE. I’d also personally remove MP regen from Addersgall and instead tie it to Toxikon 2, but that might be too complicated despite being more DPS-oriented.
Here’s what you do to avoid having your shields overwritten as Sage: meld exclusively for crit. I have a 25% crit chance on my sage, and believe me, those shields won’t be overwritten anytime soon.
It's the order, not the amount that determines if it gets overwritten. You can apply 1 million hp worth of shielding but if the sage throws out a 1 hp shield after you, yours will get overwritten. This works both ways so just wait for the sage to throw out their shield and overwrite it.
As a fresh player that started lancer, I know myself personally and have always enjoyed being a support. However I am so undecided on who to play, all these comments are so different lol White mage seems like a mercy from overwatch. However I enjoyed playing her because you could just fly around and she’s simple, however I am just scared of getting bored before 50 since I am doing trial For astrologer I can’t tell if I need the expansion, because I am so new I don’t want to pay for something that can be free at first Scholar seems eh seems lol I want pretty visuals Sage I just don’t know if I want to grind that much to get her So I’m thinking white mage it is hopefully it will work out :p Only question, since I started lancer do I have to redo the whole story to start white mage?
Healing in FFXIV is quite different from other MMOs, given that attacking is a very high priority of the job, and while keeping everyone alive is top priority, *healing* itself is sort of almost secondary to assisting with attacking! To get acquainted with this, I always recommend starting with Conjurer/White Mage because its kit is the simplest.😄 Since you started as a Lancer, you start in Gridania. Once you reach level 10 in the Main Scenario Quest, you unlock the ability to start the class quest for Conjurer, which happens to be in the same city. In the Old Gridania part of the city, look for the Blue Quest with a plus sign that is named "Way of the Conjurer", and simply start from there 😊 Astrologian is part of Heavensward, which means that you *don't* have to buy anything to play it, however, you need to complete all of A Realm Reborn's Main Quest to reach it, which means you will probably be at least level 50 by the time you can unlock it. On the same subject, Sage requires the Endwalker Expansion to access.
It gets complex with time! Keep in mind that you have to progress a bit in the game to unlock it, so trying other healers like white mage on the way can help prepare you 😊 When you do get to astrologian, I have a starter guide for it here: ua-cam.com/video/Rqc7Dt7yHIo/v-deo.htmlsi=rNTI6jweG1w2tpRr It starts a lot less overwhelming, so I am sure you can learn it with time! 😊
If you're trying to decide between sch and sge. Sage is just outright a superior healer and it's stupid broken in comparison. They have the burst healing of whm with nearly the same shield potential as sch but they also come with more and better mitigation options than sch and unlike sch, can run around while doing it. Oh a sch put out larger shields? It's ok because your shields take priority over scholars and you can erase their shields with the smallest of Eukrasian Prognosis any time you like! Dmg? Stomp sch into the ground and is on par with whm. Scholars cope on "oh but chain stratagem", cool but you bring basically nothing else to the table that sage can't do better. The only time sch is better is when you're in a static and you all know every aspect of the fight. But even then if shit hits the fan in the fight, sch doesn't have any emergency options either, unlike sage lol. That makes the chance of a team recovery much more likely on sage.
First time viewer here, great video. No offense intended but I get the feeling you're trying to change normal voice. Is this really how you usually talk? I compared it with a random video of yours, sounds way more natural. Could also be some weird mixing or mic settings, which gives me an ASMR vibe, lol. 😅
I speak in a maybe a bit too calm way in this video, because I focus a lot on making sure to not shout or yell in my videos because I feel it is unnecessary 😊 In many of my newer videos I feel I have found a better balance which may be what you are referring to I always try to experiment with what voice sounds nice to listen to so it can go a bit back and forth too! 😊 But you are correct that I sound differently in a more casual conversation situation, like you may see on my streams! I am glad to hear you enjoyed the video, thank you! 😄
White mage feels like you're hard lined into the aether and have unlimited reserves of power. I have lucid dreaming in my hot bar, but make it a point not to use it. Thin air into cure 3 is probably the most satisfying thing. You have 2 charges of Thin air, so on top of every heal being free you can also elect to make another spell of your choice free. Im only level 70 too. Was starting to feel like I should have started as warrior to be more cannon to the whole warrior of light thing, but low key, white mage is the truest warrior of light.
It's good to hear you are having fun with the job, but I would like to highlight some things! 😅 I do not recommend saving lucid dreaming for a rainy day, especially since white mage has the weakest MP recovery toolkit amongst the healers. While cure 3 feels awesome to use, it has less area of effect, and does less healing, than Medica 2, so cure 3 is actually considered a super niche tool. If you watch the trailers for the game you'll find that the stand in character for the player character changes job regularly (in 1.0 i believe he was a bard? ARR he was warrior, HW dragoon, SB samurai, ShB Dark knight and endwalker he's a paladin) so whatever job is the warrior of light is up to you 😊
@@CaetsuChaijiCh yeah I used to follow the rule of lucid dreaming between 7k and 8k but in the past couple days after getting all level 70 critical armor and critical melds, especially with medica 2s range as you said, medica 2 has been carrying. I'll be doing dungeons and trials and still won't dip under 7k while still constantly throwing out dps when I can, without lucid dreaming. Ill use thin air into cure 3 anytime we have to stack. But you said white mage has the weakest mp recovery? That makes me feel like trying sage because the thing stopping me is people saying it's hard to manage mp.
If your gear has a lot of built in piety that helps a lot. Barrier healers like sage work differently in that their healing spells are more dedicated to preventing damage than healing a lot. White mages mp management boils down to assize on cooldown (5% mp every 40 seconds) and thin air, which can amount to 10% mp per minute if you need it, but isn't reliably this strong, as at higher level, white mages that maximize their damage will lean more on lily actions for GCD healing, since afflatus misery means they are damage neutral (where medica 2 is technically a damage loss) Sage's mp recovery is that they get 7% from spending Addersgall every 20 seconds - 21% per minute at least. The difficulty for sage is resource management, the resource being both Addersgall, and other cooldowns, and MP if it really pushes you to the edge 😊 If you are interested in sage you should try it!
@@CaetsuChaijiCh 21% every minute when you put it like that definitely makes it sound very nice, also since that recharges outside of combat unlike Lilly only charging during combat. I've seen sages really be strong when I first fought nidhogg without knowing his mechanics and dying 2 times. And I do also consider the fact that I'm not being pushed fully since still are stuck at level 60 content. Yes I got armor specifically with piety and critical. Man...I'm gonna make coffee and try out sage, look what you did lol. 21% every minute sounds pretty good right now.
If you find it a bit overwhelming to get started, I have both a starter lvl 70 guide, and a 71-90 guide including end game advice 😊 Starter: ua-cam.com/video/eIIxZU_x2sU/v-deo.html 71-90 guide: ua-cam.com/video/X-qIQtApepI/v-deo.html I hope you enjoy sage at least as much as you enjoy white mage 😁
18:41 well .. i played over 1 year as whitemage main before i picked up sage ... i had so much trouble with it ... the start on lvl 70 is everything but not easy ... or fun ... xD in the mid 70s i started to get it and i was kinda confident with sage around lvl 80 ... so after around 20 dungeons .. have to say i was never good with barrier healers ... easy proof i dropped scholar with lvl 79 i just cant ..xD sage is fun once you picked it up ... for me the barriers often are still just bad .. too expensive or too weak in my opinion ... had 2 big problems with the sage start ... how the hell heal someone who dropped low especially the tank while still taking damage ... i nearly knew i lost him if he drops under 50% and the enemys are still over 30% XD my second problem was the mana managment .. very strangely but funny ... i fixed it ... but i dont know how .. or even for what my mana was used too much in the first place ... something switched without really knowing it wasnt at a certain lvl or something so its not because of a new skills anything it was kinda fixed over time by me .. without knowing how .. dont like that but well .. ;D but i was always strange with the preference in the healer ... always a whitemage main and lets be honest its pretty simple ... not that much to do ... most of the time not really much to think about and often more like "use what you want .. you have more then enough to chose from" ... my second healer was ast .. i loved him from the beginning ;D so much more to press .. and plan ... but the way how he heals is kinda similar to the whitemage somehow im often between busy and lazy ... my prefered melee dps is ninja ... or reaper ... nearly impossible to be more different in case of how many buttons you have to press in a certain time window ... ;D
in terms of damage output in average high end group all healers are essentially equal. Only for benchmarking however scholar and astro outperform the other two jobs. And with how much simpler sage and white mage are to play, and not relying on other players to deal damage during your buffs, these two are just so much better for anything thats not the absolute top end
The healers being basically equal is very accurate! Outside of high end groups, you can't rely on the raid making the most of the cooldowns Astro and Scholar provides too 😊 Ultimately I'd say all the healers are close enough that unless you are trying to aim for speed kills or some such, just choosing the healer you like best tends to work out!
Honestly, I suck at healing. I abhor healing. I only have SCH at 90 for lore reasons. I suck at healing so much that if I end up rouletting into a lvl 80+ dungeon, I warn the party about how sucky I am. And if we wipe more than once or twice, I apologize for my suckiness and quit the party, cuz by then, I’ve already managed to piss off the whole group.
Everyone learns at a different pace and find different things difficult. There is no reason to leave because of failing a couple of times. The only way to really learn is to try and try again. I would recommend specifically queueing into lower level dungeons and then gradually increasing the level on dungeons as you get acquainted with the toolkit and feel comfortable, and then eventually you will be comfortable in endwalker content too. As I recall my high level healer guides on the channel should include some general tips and tricks for dungeons in the summary section of it, which maybe you would find helpful too! But if you just don't like playing healer at all that is also okay 😊
"White Mage is a good starter Healing class and Astrologian is not recommended for new Healers"...... Man, I have the OPPOSITE problem; I despise White Mage, yet thoroughly enjoyed my starting time with Astrologian!😂😂
@@CaetsuChaijiCh to be fair, there is some bias in that statement. I leveled White Mage from 30-50......without doing the Job Quests. Imagine, if you will, leveling White Mage through dungeons, getting Aurum Vale with tanks that wanna pull the WHOLE FIRST ROOM......and you have NO Regen, NO Cure 3 and NO Holy. I hated White Mage, I hated Aurum Vale and I hated bullshit rushdown Tanks.....but mostly I hated myself for not doing the Job Quests
I just cannot wrap my head around astrologian 😭 Idk if it's because my gears are bad but I am struggling to keep tank alive w2w pulling in pre lvl 70 dungeons... I end up blasting every regen ogcds and still tank health drops like crazy within 20 secs making me barely able to contribute attacking or/and giving cards 😭
It is very awkward since while Scholars often use ruin 2 if they have to run somewhere, once a sage is out of toxikons, their best option is to put up shields. That often leads to them absentmindedly overwriting shields like this 😅 It is annoying, and my best suggestion to avoid the issue is to simply use shields way less in such a group 😅
Hmm that is a good question 🤔 i would guess it might be the shadowless coat of fending from heroes gauntlet, with the accompanying skirt, but it's hard to tell 😅
Whm doesn't have mana issues. Assize is used on cd for dmg, not mana (its a wonderful bonus tho). Lucid dreaming should be used at 7-8k mana. I raid with low piety (526) and even chain ressing rarely causes mana issues when you're using thin air when available. The only problem you run into with mana is being revived with lucid dreaming on cd, however a mid-piety build makes this a non-issue. Sch is by far the worst for dungeons. This is due to the fact that many tanks either ignore their mitigation or underutilize it. Your shields are meaningless when the tanks health evaporates faster than a squishy dps. This often causes sch to scramble through raw healing which as a shield healer, is barely enough. Sch overall feels incredibly clunky to play, especially when compared to sage. While sage is much busier, it's tool kit flows much better than scholars and it honestly brings more to the table when it comes to raiding.
Scholars and sages play primarily by sustained healing, which is often why tools like sacred soil are used before the tank is in danger. If you play these jobs like a white mage it isn't going to go well because white mage (and astrologian) have far greater burst healing. All healers have lucid dreaming, but only white mage has presence of mind, which directly increases your mp spending. Assize should be used on cooldown (did I state otherwise?) but it is still weaker than all other healer tools: Sch gets 20% per minute from aetherflow Sge gets 7% from addersgall every 20 seconds AST gets 5% from cards every 30 seconds, and Astrodyne contains a smaller lucid dreaming on top. Whm gets assize for 5% every 40 seconds, and thin air. If used in desperate situations, thin air is the strongest mp recovery of all (24% on raise), but in most common cases it's 4% on glare. Whm is the most likely healer to have mp issues, especially if you think you have infinite mp, but when played right with a group that does not need medica 2 casts regularly, or raises, whm has no issues no. But it is a fact that WHM has the worst mp management, and happens to also be most capable of spending mp faster than the other healers 😊
@@CaetsuChaijiCh You mentioned that whm uses Assize on cd but it was for the wrong reason, it's not for mana generation it's purely for dmg. Mana and healing is just a side perk. While other healers might have better mana regeneration, it also doesn't mean whm has a mana issue. Honestly it feels like sch has a mana issue, from my game play and others. Even the balance recommends scholar against low piety builds outside a static for raids because of that problem. As for sch/sge healing. Sch is outright inferior in the dungeon setting and even prepping perfectly doesn't change that. If you have a bad tank or a team that's taking excessive damage, sge has a larger variety of abilities to work with compared to sch. edit: read the post after this, it's clear there's a huge misunderstanding in regards to assize. The discussion was fun and to ensure this doesn't go into a pointless back & forth, it ultimately just boils down to opinion.
@@1braincellwhm Right, the reason I say that Assize is used for the damage reason is because if it was for the healing or MP reasons, then newer players watching this video might believe they should *not* use Assize unless they need the healing or MP. You always need the damage, so taking the position that you use it for the damage is an easy (and supposed to be slightly funny) way to explain that it HAS to be used on cooldown. The argument that The Balance advices against scholars using low piety builds is not that important, because all but the Astrologian healer guides on the balance says so, just in varying levels of danger depending on who the author is. Sage is also advised heavily against low piety builds in the same way as Scholar. WHM instead of having a big warning label simply says the same thing underneath the build list. However, I will admit that using lilies is an aspect that I don't really include in my considerations of MP efficiency, and technically 3 lilies and Misery saves the WHM at least 1600 MP per minute. I believe my original assessment of WHMs MP issues were also from the age where Misery was a DPS loss on single target (which was the case until 6.1), which meant that lilies being free (and Misery too) was moot since you wouldn't use either if you could avoid it at the time. Combine this with using Thin Air on Glare (worst case), and Assize on cooldown and it equates to around 27.5% MP per minute if the toolkit is used effectively. So thats fair, that is more effective than both Scholar and Sage, so you are right, WHM is not the healer with the worst MP management, and by that token, that makes Scholar the worst. I did not notice this oddity though, because I don't feel that Scholar has any MP issues either 😊 From my experience, which involves a lot of dungeons, I do agree that Sage has an advantage over Scholar, but I feel like the difference in performance is very small, and that many players find Scholar to be a lot weaker than it actually is because of the weirdness of its toolkit making it difficult to grasp. For example, it is not unusual to watch Scholars sit at 100 Faerie Gauge and just not using it.
As a healer main. If you're trying to pick up healing, try first the both type of healer and see if you're reactive or the other one. From there, try to focus the two job for that type. Whm is overall great to play. Best for dungeon, good damage and good party recovery. But need a proper mana and lily management. Sch gives thiccer shield, easy for dungeon because of the fairy, good range for raid wide healing, has a party buff. Also beginner friendly. But also need some aether and mp management. Ast is Jack of all trade. Can easily do everything in every situation. Good in dungeon but not as good as the two healer above. Need good knowledge on the fight because of the pre casted heals. Need a lot of micro management to its kit but it's fun since it's fast phased. Perfect for raids. The downside is the least damage output out of everyone. Sge is the most fun, but bad on party recovery. You need a good idea when will the party will need a bunch of damage. Quite hard on dungeon. Good for raids. The kit is a bit confusing for beginner but the most fun once you know how your kit works. Plus it has Kamehameha. I suggest if you want to learn everything about healing. Play ast. It makes you more aware of the fight once you get the gist of it. Ast has everything. Shield, regen, pre cast heal party management, and a bit of rng making it more fun. That's all. Happy healing everyone.
Thank you for adding your perspective! I appreciate it! Sage does have a slightly deceptive difficulty curve right at the start since you need to be efficient about your cooldown management, else you run out of stuff, and the last resort basic healing spells of the sage are not great! 😅
I don't get why people say Astro is hard to play, there is literally nothing special that makes him harder than Sage or Scholar. Personally I find Sage harder than Astro for sure.
Each player finds different things difficult. If your first healer was whm or ast, and you simply decided to main ast from there, then the barrier healers sage and Scholar will seem very alien in their toolkit. The special thing that makes ast stand out is the card management which, due to being damage related mostly, makes it "part of" the astrologians damage rotation. Each of the other healers have far less complexity in their attacks. For healing, I can understand far better if the barrier healers feel much more difficult if you prefer pure healers 😊 But this is of course something subjective!
@@CaetsuChaijiCh hmm card system is actually very straight forward, now more than ever. For me it is just something to do in the "meantime" so I am not so bored during the fight :p It used to be harder when each card had a different buff.
Using cards is very straightforward. The hard part is the two minute bursts (and opener) where you want to play three cards, and divination, and astrodyne, and don't forget that you may also want to redraw some of the cards. Optimally you have around 1 second to decide what you want to do with a card, otherwise you may lose potential dps from it. And optimally, you want to play each card on the most effective job every time, which means you need to know that. None of the other healers have this level of activity in their bursts, nor this level of knowledge requirement to master their damage output 😊 Obviously in casual content, and even in suboptimal savage groups (which still will beat the bosses in most cases) you can avoid most of these excessive optimizations. But I still think it is a crucial part of mastering the job 😁
@@CaetsuChaijiCh hmm I think when there was an option to "burn" a card by using queen or lord (which didn't ruin the 3 sign buff) it was much easier to decide when you want to use the 3 sign setup buff. Now it kinda feels like when you have them all 3 and draw a new card, you can either use the buff, ruin the buff or discard a card which sucks completely. No idea why they made that change because it makes actually little to no sense in my opinion and that is why I don't main astro this expansion because it is just frustrating to play because of this. Feels the lack of control what you want to do, you can have the buff ready very quickly but then not use it because it's not the right time. So before you need it you can randomly use cards without caring to complete the setup but then when you need the buff you can get unlucky and not have it because you can only redraw ONCE, which is insane.
Due to how redraw works, the probability of getting only one type of sign is extremely low. Even two types of signs is a damage gain to use, so this is why you generally just maximize the amount of astrodynes you can utilize during raid buff windows and things like that. Basically, ast played efficiently plays one card every odd minute on the dps with the biggest odd minute burst. And then three cards on the even minute to maximize damage bonuses during raid buffs. Essentially, in endwalker Astro focuses more on quantity of cards than quality. Back in the day you had abilities that could be used to spend a card to make the next card stronger, and then you also had the option to "dump" a card by turning it into lord or lady of crowns. The logical reason for the switch is that if astrologian needed random amounts of time to be "ready to burst", it would simply not function with the two minute burst meta, and would make ast have a difficult time staying competitive with the other healers. Ridiculous i know, but that is also why I have a video discussing that subject too 😊 But the fact that you have less options to choose from with your cards doesn't mean it is easier. As I said, the difficult part is timing the use of your cards much more strictly! 😊
Sage is such an angry healer lol "You took damage? Ok cool. You get kardia" If tgey are below 100%. Are not the tank. But still above 60%? They get kardia lol
Astrologian is when played optimally considered the fastest playing of the four healers. In contrast the three others play about equally fast where the fast and slow bits are slightly different 😊
I'm just talking in a very calm manner 😊 No need to be yelling! 😁 Although since this video I got a bit better at talking in a calm tone with a bit mor volume 😉 Thank you!
@@CaetsuChaijiCh haha all good, i just had to turn my volume way up and was confused. but the vid is good, dont wanna sound like im hating. keep up the vids
I know AST has more to think about than other healers, on average. But at 9:34, you throw two questions up on the screen: Is it better to play a ranged card on a melee DPS, than to play it on myself? Is it better to play melee card on a ranged DPS, than to play it on the tank? The answer to both of these questions is always, unequivocally yes. This is not something you ever need to think about, just card a DPS that isn't tanking the floor. Doesn't matter if you hit the wrong type. A competent DPS will always yield more gains from your cards than any tank or healer just by virtue of the way the roles are balanced for damage.
If you assume all of the party members in your group are equally skilled - competent - then you can expect a tank to do around 60% of the damage of a melee DPS, or a Black Mage / Machinist, significantly more when compared to the more supportive ranged DPS. An Astrologian - as the example posed is in a dungeon context - will do do somewhere around 40-45% of any melee DPS, maybe a bit less even. In that situation, giving the tank the melee card for 6% more DPS is going to be equivalent to giving the ranged DPS 3.6% more damage, and as such, actually giving the card to the tank can sometimes be superior, since the ranged DPS would actually only gain 3% from the card. For the opposite end, the Astrologian will never be the better choice than a Melee DPS for a ranged card, if everyone is equally skilled. However, in most random dungeon groups, the players are not equally skilled, and this can go both ways. *Maybe* your melee DPS players are playing very poorly, making using the cards on yourself significantly superior. *Maybe* your tank is actually playing very poorly, making the tank undeserving of the melee card despite the above calculation.😅 Anyway, in all situations where it is crucially important, simply playing your cards on the DPS will serve you perfectly fine, but this was mostly suggested as a consideration when you have unbalanced parties, simply because the consideration *does* matter, even if only a little bit! I hope this makes sense! 😊
I feel it is a bit overwhelming to both deal with the card plays and the healing simultaneously! Some players enjoy the extra difficulty right out the gate though! 😊
AST in the video: "Should I buff the Samurai or the Dragoon?" :/
Me as an AST main: "Ok Samurai you got it last time now it's the Dragoon's turn!"
True equality! 😄 Then no one feels forgotten either!
Same!
Lol, I always buff Sam and monk, sometimes dragoon because it’s the only dps in the team currently. (I have no choice).😊
I just see who has the highest dps at the time and buff them
This is the way.
Edit: Though, one of my FC-mates raged when he doesn’t get 100% card as the high DPS. And this is roulette content…
White Mage: Practical healers
Astro: Pseudoscience healers
Scholars: Theoretical healers
Sage: Unlicensed healers
Unlicensed healers 😂
"trust me, if I shoot at those guys over there I am sure you'll feel better!"
Nah mate, sage is a laser surgeon.
@@itsdietime6382 spoken like a true unlicensed healer 😂
Going from AST to WHM was definitely alarming when I almost found out the hard way to watch my MP
I think the overall power of the healers come down to how well you can plan ahead:
WHM is the most powerful if you find yourself reactionary healing and needing to pick up the pieces after a lot of pain has been dealt to the party.
White mage is a very beautiful job! 😄 And it sounds wonderful that you are enjoying your favorite job so much! 😊
It was my first job anf honestly I just love everything about it. Thr Quest Giver, the starting location etc. Everything felt so special to me
I know folks recommend WHM as the 1st healer to play but I jumped in head 1st with SGE as my 1st healer because it looked the most interesting and fun to play out of the 4 healer. I wasn't wrong in that as I REALLY enjoy playing SGE! Working on the other 3 healers now but I have a STRONG feeling they won't be as fun to play.
Hey, if Sage is what motivated you to try the role, and you found it fun to start with, thats all that matters! The main reason White Mage is commonly recommended as your first healer is because it gives a much easier start on learning all the mechanics, which can be more difficult to grasp than other roles 😊
Glad to hear you have fun with the healers though!
@@SaltedMallowsthe vfx of scholar are soo ugly. I want some pixie dust or poison spells!
That is an interesting point! I was going to say bio is supposed to be poison, but both biolysis and art of war somehow have a more techy feel to them so I can see what you mean there! 😅
SCH mains i salute you. I love seeing you guys in content cause it must suck feeling a little neglected by the devs right now. 😅
At least SCH still has Expedient! And that is certainly one of the coolest options in the game to have! 😊
@@frankk1358 You don't have to enjoy all the jobs in the game! I know a lot of players skipped Scholar completely due to the pet mechanics alone, so if there is something about the job you don't enjoy, that is also absolutely okay! 😊
Your narration of these videos is so chill and exquisite, love your guides!
Thank you so much! That really means a lot to me!
Thank you for your perspective on Scholar and Sage! I appreciate it, there are a lot of great points 😊
I feel like a lot of players get too caught up in the memes that sage is "easier Scholar" and forget that they each have their own advantages and disadvantages 😊
I'm glad you love Scholar!
Thank you! 😊
That is certainly an interesting order to level healers in, but if it works that's really what matters 😁
Started the game very recently as a black mage and I’m definitely going for astrologian as my main healer. Thanks for the informative video.
I'm glad you found it helpful! Good luck on your journey as astrologian! If you are interested, I have guides for the job on the channel in case you need it! 😊

@@CaetsuChaijiCh thank you, I’ll check them out 🙏
My preferred Mage and Healer too. I guess I just like having a lot to think about and buttons to press lmao
This is exactly the kind of explanation I was looking for on job differences for someone who knows nothing. Thanks :)
Thank you so much! :D
im already sleepy but this video put me to sleep. dont get me wrong! i really like the chill narration, so soothing.
Thank you! I am glad to hear that 😊
@Caetsu Chaiji Ch. you just have that calm soothing voice. So it doesn't help if you're watching your videos when trying to fight sleep.
I love the barrier healers. Sage even more than scholar. Someday i hope to be ready to pick up astro. It seems difficult, soo many buttons…
While my main job is dps, i play a lot as sch for my group, mainly for secondary healing
And let me tell you, it so satisfying to be able predict who's gonna get hit for mechanic
When they thought that they will die, they actually alive with either shield or exoc
I can just picture it! The last moment Adloquium saving someone! 😁
Yeah, it feels like all of the attacking complexity was cut out to make space for more healing tools 😕
What pet you used making a difference is also something I really miss, both for Scholar and summoner 😔
To be fair selene's silence was useless in content after a certain lvl since everything resist it
Well silences have since evolved to interrupts, and if a spell is interruptible then it would be very convenient to have a healer that can also interrupt!
As a relatively new player, here are my takes:
WHM: My main up until I got SGE.
That sounds like a wonderful family time! Incredible that you could agree on roles like that! 😄
I'm glad to hear that! Thank you! 😁
Also in regards to the protect thing, oof I wonder how often wipes occurred because tank ran too fast! 😂
@CaetsuChaijiCh sometimes I managed to save it, but wipes happened quite a few times xD aaahh memories
I assume what you meant is that you played bard until you reached astrologian, given it unlocks once you reach heavensward? 😊
@@CaetsuChaijiCh oh yeah exactly that was lv 60 haha
Working on getting a conjuror up to 30 for that unicorn mount. After that I’m out of the healing game. I can’t have that type of responsibility while playing video games.
If you don't like healing in mmos that's alright 😊 but personally I feel while the healer has the responsibility of doing the healing, a lot of the stuff the healer gets "blamed for" is a party wide responsibility 😁
I also feel that healing in low levels is a completely different world than higher levels since you only have the basic healing spells which make it scarier (no panic buttons)!
I know a lot of players find the attacking rotations of all the healers somewhat dull, especially in the open world where Scholar and Sage practically outheal all attacks automatically.😅
In fact, you mentioning that it can get a bit sleepy to spam Ruin endlessly with nothing in between, the fact that Sage has to actively move around Kardia (or at least has the option to) gives you something extra to do and watch for when the fights get a bit slow 😁
I've seen plenty of videos. And that one is, by far, the mostly well done.
Thank you so much! That means so much to me! 😄
Great video! Ive recerntly picked FFXIV back up (played 1.0 a bit and ARR but stopped for years)
My main was a WHM, but only got to 65, so I started a new character and am now SCH.
Also welcome back to Eorzea!
Yeah it's fortunate that the lily situation has been fixed 😊
Regarding Scholar, energy drain actually used to give both! 😊 And while they removed the mp recovery from energy drain (500 mp each), they doubled the mp from aether flow, so you felt less like energy drain was an mp value proposition, and more just for the damage 😊
But I get what you mean! I also tend to prefer the barrier healers for most content!
I have a magic dps class and a tank but now I’m deciding which healing class to level first. Hard to decide but I love helping out teammates
Thank you for your perspective 😊
There are some tricks that sage can use to heal for quite a lot without spending everything, but it is true that barrier healers are rough once they are out of cooldowns!
In PvP this takes the form of the player choosing or applying effects from black/white shift.)
Decision making in action is similar to AST, in my opinion, except it’s not centered around distributing cards.
The time spent having Kardia on DPS means Tank doesn’t receive passive healing, allowing Taurochole to make fuller use of its heal component.)
Likewise, there’s a bunch of other factors that make SGE mastery not-so-easy. SGE even has niche things like converting EVERY safety/downtime Eukrasian Prog/Diag into extra throughput by snapshotting raidwides/tankbusters/any damage with Pepsis (30p when using it like Emergency Tactics bUt iN rEvErSe; 350p heal AND 100% of the barrier is consumed when used as a parry)
I think that there’s a lot more to SGE than people give it credit for. The potent tools at its disposal has led most of the community to believe that there isn’t much potential to be had and, from that, haven’t put extra effort to get more value.
Those are a lot of great points, Zusuru! I myself also switched from mainly healing as sch, to sge, mainly due to a few select conveniences primarily related to kerachole, taurochole and instant shield spells 😊
I am willing to admit I may have underestimated the mastery difficulty of the job due to having a lot of experience with the toolkit myself, but I do genuinely find it more difficult to maximize the performance of ast, sch and even whm due to each their own difficulties and challenges 😁
Still, as I said, I do appreciate you sharing your perspective, as it also teaches me both some extra tricks for the job, as well as allowing me to have a broader perspective to share in the future 😁
i was a blm main in arrr, picked ast in heavensward and have mained it since (much rage at the changes over the years). so i laughed when you recommended not doing ast as your first healer cuz i figured after blm ast would be cake
Well black mage and astrologian are hard in two very different ways 😁 but if you liked it then that is perfect!
omg i totally forgot about cleric stance, i still have protect on my whm's original hotbar as a reminder of our healer history hahaha
The good old days!
So well explained, thanks!!
Thank you so much! 😊
I am not sure exactly what it is for you that makes Sage difficult, but you could try watching the guides I have put up more recently on Sage (both a level 70 starter, and a level 71-90 including endgame stuff), or you could watch the VOD from my Sage Duty Roulette stream to see how I play Sage :-)

@@CaetsuChaijiCh I'll give these a watch and give Sage another try. Thanks!
Thats wonderful that you happened to find your favorite job on a whim like that! 😄
CLERIC STANCE and HIT CHANCE... these are things I'd almost forgotten... You gottae bring up Accuracy at some point too just to make me cry more ♥
Imagine if we still had those things today! I wonder if that would make Healing more or less exciting! ^^
Thank you for the video
I started out with WHM, but ended up loving SCH so much more. I also love the aesthetic of SCH. SCH all the way!
AST is best if you already know the fight/dungeon inside and out, so you can plant the timed skills in advance.
Start healer jobs with Schoolar because I already play summoners and I don't found it too hard to learn, not to master but learning is quite simple in my opinion.
I’ve thus video before actually starting the game so far I got my scholar at lvl 77 and I’m about to start heavenward 😳🤫
With that said just started playing as the astrologer but its kinda extra work just because to me lol I kinda enjoy barrier healing cause I can game plan early and let thing play out I haven’t unlock sage and I skipped wht mage cause I’m lazy so I needed 2 jobs in one lol scholar/summoner
Great video I probably just a barrier healer now I want to get tanking down next
Thank you! I hope it helped with some of your decisions in choosing healers ^^
Scholar/Summoner is a nice job to start with if you aren't sure if you want to be a DPS or a Healer. As you go beyond level 50, the two jobs start to use different gear so it can get difficult to maintain both simultaneously, but that shouldn't deter you from playing both despite that! :D
Personally I also lean a bit more towards barrier healers, so I get that!
Dammit, will have to wait a while day for my fix
Haha! I hope it will be worth the wait, Gautham! 😊
It sounds like you had a fun journey with healers! 😊
@@CaetsuChaijiCh So it is not from the start "blah blah blah Card games Blah"?
Well it starts with the cards, and only one ogcd healing option. But it takes a bit before many of the more complex details to it gets added 😊
Astro was actually the first healer I played and the only one that I like. All of the others have charges that need to be managed. Astro’s “charges” are just the cards which I enjoy giving people damage buffs. All of the healing spells just have mp cost and cool downs. No shard resource management needed as well.
Honestly, even if astro is the hardest healer to master, I find astrologian the easiest and I understand it the best, much better than sage and white mage
And for scholar, I did not really bother playing it, since it levels together with summoner
I'd love to see a Dawntrail update to this!
That sounds like a good idea! I do have to have played all of the healers a bit more to be able to fairly compare them! :D
I'm basic, I normally spam Lustrate. You have an ASMR voice.
Well sometimes that is also the best move! As long as someone gets healing out of it, it certainly isn't the worst move 😊
My Scholar needs a book to cast spells. And I have a book just to know how to handle scenarios haha! I love Scholar
Maybe I just prefer pure healers over putting up shields thinking about it now...
personally i think sage is the hardest and complex healer possible, i just cant play it
but alas, im a whm only player
Different players find different things difficult so that is totally fair 😊
Aw, I have to wait until tomorrow?
I hope it is worth the wait! I try to put the big video every week on Saturdays with some time for people to plan around it because it gives you a better chance of joining me for the premiere!
Still, sorry for forcing you to wait, but I really appreciate the excitement! ^^
Just trying to find a healer to level up as an alt just in case. I was stuck between WHM and sage. AST seems way to complicated for me lol
Ast is also getting some major changes in dawntrail in a few weeks, so if you haven't decided by then, you could revisit the idea 😊
@@CaetsuChaijiCh yeah I saw some of the job changes and AST looks pretty cool! Maybe I will try it out
11 months late to the video, but I do have to disagree on Astrologian's mobility being as good as Sage's (let alone better than White mage's) considering that Lightspeed as you mentioned is very often used more as an opener tool than a mobility tool.
That is a fair point! I do think I also raise very briefly mention this myself, but you are probably right there! ^^
Great video
Thank you! I am glad you enjoyed it!
If I didn't start with astro I would have never fallen in love with healing but I only like healing with astro because its more fun then the other
Its great that you found the healer job just for you, especially if you have since found out the other three probably wouldn't have inspired you as much!
@@CaetsuChaijiCh guess when I get sub again I'll have to try and see about it more
I don't know if you have seen them, but I do have both a Starter Guideand a level by level guide (including max level stuff) for Sage, which suggests healing strategies.
Choosing your spots and applying shields at the right time means you can generate the adderstings almost for free, and that means you have a ranged attack that (at max level) is equal to dosis in damage, and actually stronger than dyskrasia by a tiny bit, while being ranged and usable while moving 😊
Toxikon is a little strange, but it adds an interesting aspect to the job I feel!
The idea is good, but all healers (in fact most jobs) are recommended to stack crit due to how powerful it is, and even so it is still up to chance 😊
It's the order, not the amount that determines if it gets overwritten.
You can apply 1 million hp worth of shielding but if the sage throws out a 1 hp shield after you, yours will get overwritten.
This works both ways so just wait for the sage to throw out their shield and overwrite it.
This is correct. Only your own shields can't be overwritten by yourself if they are not stronger 😊
Interesting, didn't know that the summoner's heal scales with mind.
It's quite weird! And mainly serves to make it very ineffective at higher level 😅
Sprint II is my favorite scholar skill
As a fresh player that started lancer, I know myself personally and have always enjoyed being a support. However I am so undecided on who to play, all these comments are so different lol
White mage seems like a mercy from overwatch. However I enjoyed playing her because you could just fly around and she’s simple, however I am just scared of getting bored before 50 since I am doing trial
For astrologer I can’t tell if I need the expansion, because I am so new I don’t want to pay for something that can be free at first
Scholar seems eh seems lol I want pretty visuals
Sage I just don’t know if I want to grind that much to get her
So I’m thinking white mage it is hopefully it will work out :p
Only question, since I started lancer do I have to redo the whole story to start white mage?
Healing in FFXIV is quite different from other MMOs, given that attacking is a very high priority of the job, and while keeping everyone alive is top priority, *healing* itself is sort of almost secondary to assisting with attacking! To get acquainted with this, I always recommend starting with Conjurer/White Mage because its kit is the simplest.😄
Since you started as a Lancer, you start in Gridania. Once you reach level 10 in the Main Scenario Quest, you unlock the ability to start the class quest for Conjurer, which happens to be in the same city.
In the Old Gridania part of the city, look for the Blue Quest with a plus sign that is named "Way of the Conjurer", and simply start from there 😊
Astrologian is part of Heavensward, which means that you *don't* have to buy anything to play it, however, you need to complete all of A Realm Reborn's Main Quest to reach it, which means you will probably be at least level 50 by the time you can unlock it.
On the same subject, Sage requires the Endwalker Expansion to access.
I think of starting with ffxiv i love the idea of the astrologian but it sounds soooo complex:-(
It gets complex with time! Keep in mind that you have to progress a bit in the game to unlock it, so trying other healers like white mage on the way can help prepare you 😊
When you do get to astrologian, I have a starter guide for it here: ua-cam.com/video/Rqc7Dt7yHIo/v-deo.htmlsi=rNTI6jweG1w2tpRr
It starts a lot less overwhelming, so I am sure you can learn it with time! 😊
@@CaetsuChaijiCh Thank you so much! Ill start with the white mage that sounds great too. :-)
I speak in a maybe a bit too calm way in this video, because I focus a lot on making sure to not shout or yell in my videos because I feel it is unnecessary 😊
In many of my newer videos I feel I have found a better balance which may be what you are referring to I always try to experiment with what voice sounds nice to listen to so it can go a bit back and forth too! 😊
But you are correct that I sound differently in a more casual conversation situation, like you may see on my streams!
I do not recommend saving lucid dreaming for a rainy day, especially since white mage has the weakest MP recovery toolkit amongst the healers.
White mages mp management boils down to assize on cooldown (5% mp every 40 seconds) and thin air, which can amount to 10% mp per minute if you need it, but isn't reliably this strong, as at higher level, white mages that maximize their damage will lean more on lily actions for GCD healing, since afflatus misery means they are damage neutral (where medica 2 is technically a damage loss)
Sage's mp recovery is that they get 7% from spending Addersgall every 20 seconds - 21% per minute at least. The difficulty for sage is resource management, the resource being both Addersgall, and other cooldowns, and MP if it really pushes you to the edge 😊
If you are interested in sage you should try it!
If you find it a bit overwhelming to get started, I have both a starter lvl 70 guide, and a 71-90 guide including end game advice 😊

18:41 well .. i played over 1 year as whitemage main before i picked up sage ... i had so much trouble with it ... the start on lvl 70 is everything but not easy ... or fun ... xD in the mid 70s i started to get it and i was kinda confident with sage around lvl 80 ... so after around 20 dungeons ..
have to say i was never good with barrier healers ... easy proof i dropped scholar with lvl 79 i just cant ..xD sage is fun once you picked it up ... for me the barriers often are still just bad .. too expensive or too weak in my opinion ... had 2 big problems with the sage start ... how the hell heal someone who dropped low especially the tank while still taking damage ... i nearly knew i lost him if he drops under 50% and the enemys are still over 30% XD my second problem was the mana managment .. very strangely but funny ... i fixed it ... but i dont know how .. or even for what my mana was used too much in the first place ... something switched without really knowing it wasnt at a certain lvl or something so its not because of a new skills anything it was kinda fixed over time by me .. without knowing how .. dont like that but well .. ;D
but i was always strange with the preference in the healer ... always a whitemage main and lets be honest its pretty simple ... not that much to do ... most of the time not really much to think about and often more like "use what you want .. you have more then enough to chose from" ... my second healer was ast .. i loved him from the beginning ;D so much more to press .. and plan ... but the way how he heals is kinda similar to the whitemage
somehow im often between busy and lazy ... my prefered melee dps is ninja ... or reaper ... nearly impossible to be more different in case of how many buttons you have to press in a certain time window ... ;D
Astrologian main here.
Great! As long as you play what you enjoy! 😁
@@CaetsuChaijiCh thank you
in terms of damage output in average high end group all healers are essentially equal. Only for benchmarking however scholar and astro outperform the other two jobs. And with how much simpler sage and white mage are to play, and not relying on other players to deal damage during your buffs, these two are just so much better for anything thats not the absolute top end
The healers being basically equal is very accurate! Outside of high end groups, you can't rely on the raid making the most of the cooldowns Astro and Scholar provides too 😊
Ultimately I'd say all the healers are close enough that unless you are trying to aim for speed kills or some such, just choosing the healer you like best tends to work out!
But if you just don't like playing healer at all that is also okay 😊
leavin a party as a healer is beyond disgusting
U'll get it bro )))
"White Mage is a good starter Healing class and Astrologian is not recommended for new Healers"......
Man, I have the OPPOSITE problem; I despise White Mage, yet thoroughly enjoyed my starting time with Astrologian!😂😂
Sometimes jumping straight into the deep end really helps for some players to learn! 😁
@@CaetsuChaijiCh
to be fair, there is some bias in that statement.
I just cannot wrap my head around astrologian 😭
Idk if it's because my gears are bad but I am struggling to keep tank alive w2w pulling in pre lvl 70 dungeons... I end up blasting every regen ogcds and still tank health drops like crazy within 20 secs making me barely able to contribute attacking or/and giving cards 😭
The most hard to play is obviously SCH when there is stupid SGE in your party, ruining all your big shields :/
It is very awkward since while Scholars often use ruin 2 if they have to run somewhere, once a sage is out of toxikons, their best option is to put up shields. That often leads to them absentmindedly overwriting shields like this 😅
It is annoying, and my best suggestion to avoid the issue is to simply use shields way less in such a group 😅
What body glam is the DRK at 7:40 wearing?
Hmm that is a good question 🤔 i would guess it might be the shadowless coat of fending from heroes gauntlet, with the accompanying skirt, but it's hard to tell 😅
I think it's the fending top from Ktsis Hyberboria.
Assize should be used on cooldown (did I state otherwise?) but it is still weaker than all other healer tools:
Sch gets 20% per minute from aetherflow
Sge gets 7% from addersgall every 20 seconds
AST gets 5% from cards every 30 seconds, and Astrodyne contains a smaller lucid dreaming on top.
I did not notice this oddity though, because I don't feel that Scholar has any MP issues either 😊
From my experience, which involves a lot of dungeons, I do agree that Sage has an advantage over Scholar, but I feel like the difference in performance is very small, and that many players find Scholar to be a lot weaker than it actually is because of the weirdness of its toolkit making it difficult to grasp.
My fav healer and my main is a sage
I don't get why people say Astro is hard to play, there is literally nothing special that makes him harder than Sage or Scholar. Personally I find Sage harder than Astro for sure.
Each player finds different things difficult. If your first healer was whm or ast, and you simply decided to main ast from there, then the barrier healers sage and Scholar will seem very alien in their toolkit.
The special thing that makes ast stand out is the card management which, due to being damage related mostly, makes it "part of" the astrologians damage rotation. Each of the other healers have far less complexity in their attacks.
For healing, I can understand far better if the barrier healers feel much more difficult if you prefer pure healers 😊
But this is of course something subjective!
None of the other healers have this level of activity in their bursts, nor this level of knowledge requirement to master their damage output 😊
Obviously in casual content, and even in suboptimal savage groups (which still will beat the bosses in most cases) you can avoid most of these excessive optimizations.
Ridiculous i know, but that is also why I have a video discussing that subject too 😊
But the fact that you have less options to choose from with your cards doesn't mean it is easier. As I said, the difficult part is timing the use of your cards much more strictly! 😊
Sage is such an angry healer lol
"You took damage? Ok cool. You get kardia"
If tgey are below 100%. Are not the tank. But still above 60%? They get kardia lol
Haha I can sort of envision it like a hat being passed around or something 😂
which one would you say fast paced?
Astrologian is when played optimally considered the fastest playing of the four healers. In contrast the three others play about equally fast where the fast and slow bits are slightly different 😊

I know AST has more to think about than other healers, on average. But at 9:34, you throw two questions up on the screen:
Is it better to play a ranged card on a melee DPS, than to play it on myself?
*Maybe* your tank is actually playing very poorly, making the tank undeserving of the melee card despite the above calculation.😅
Anyway, in all situations where it is crucially important, simply playing your cards on the DPS will serve you perfectly fine, but this was mostly suggested as a consideration when you have unbalanced parties, simply because the consideration *does* matter, even if only a little bit!
I hope this makes sense! 😊
