All looks amazing...on paper.
I'm skeptical.
I think the trend is going to be drones and unmanned vehicles. I think you are seeing that the enormous cost of 5th generation aircraft is becoming an impediment. Even for the US.
I don't really think so, machines are too predictable. The only real advantage of drones in a dogfight is endurance, they can't pull harder G's than human pilots without causing stresses on the airframe. They aren't crafty or tricky either, all a pilot needs to do is risky maneuvers to test if the drones computer would follow or withdraw. The second the drone doesn't do something as risky as the human pilot, it becomes exploitable.
@@roflocopter1337 Dog fighting is becoming obsolete.
@@roflocopter1337 You're forgetting the emergence of AI. It's only a matter of time that machines will no longer be predictable. As for the stress on airframe argument, it's the other way around. A machine can pull much higher G's than a manned aircraft can, not because of the airframe design BUT because of the pilot itself. IIRC, a human pilot can only tolerate loads of 9G's for a moment or so before succumbing to it; the limit of the aircraft that a human pilot is much, much higher.
And as OP mentioned, dog fighting is obsolete due to the range of missiles and the supporting hardware (i.e. radar, satellites, etc...) it rely on.
The technology is getting to the point that the aircrafts biggest vulnerability and limitations are the human body of pilot
@@ivanfreely6366they've been saying for 50-60 years that dogfighting is obsolete! Guess, what? It's still relevant. What if restrictive rules of engagement rule out BVR? What if other factors bring the combatants to the merge, i.e a dogfight? If dogfighting is so passe, then WHY does Russia continue to design and build fighters that can do it so well?

Sweden have changed the status to ”observer” in Tempest project. Sweden based company SAAB seem to have plans of their own.
Next generation planes would be far too expensive to develop for a small country like Sweden.
NGAD has long since had its first flight, they were flying before Covid hit
Yep. Generally, what the US shows you is three to four generations behind what they are actually able to produce. Russia and China like to show their top of the line. For China is usually ripping of American and Russian technology. Take the F-22. An impressive plane that sets the standard for 5th gen fighters to this day (and the foreseeable future even after its decommissioned), but its first flight was in 1997.
They flew a demonstrator which is just that, to demonstrate stuff. It was/is a proof of concept which could be as simple as testing adaptive cycle engines in an existing airframe for instance.

@@ChickenFighter-xy3mf Well, that's typical Russophobic, anti-Russian propaganda. Nor does anyone know what the MiG-41 will look like. And this addition of rockets on the wings, as with the 4th generation aircraft, is clearly done on purpose, in order, as usual, to humiliate and insult the Russians as incompetent, primitive and similar nonsense, because if the Russians were really like that, they would not during 2023, in the middle of a major military conflict between Russia and the whole of NATO (only the war is being fought on the territory of Ukraine, and Ukrainians are being killed on purpose, so that Western soldiers don't have to die... Nothing about the US's ambitious programs to use slave autonomous full sized wing drones to fly formation with the NGAD and capable of carrying out independent dog fighting or mission specific perimeters?
I think all 6th are supose to do that. At least european FCAS will do.
@@jccalventephotography5096 actually the Europeans are not even near as advanced as the US in drone technology or stealth capabilities...
Nobody is.
True the NGAD fighter will be accompanied by possibly up to 6 drones. Some will be designated as fighters to lighten payload of the fighter while some are electronic warfare or reconnaissance based. Some can even be fit to be stealth bombers with air to ground missiles for specific operations
Hell they could even take a missile for the fighter if it somehow runs out of flares or missiles if the fighter can be detected in the first place

With the way things are going, they're will likely be only one european 6th gen, a chinese 6th gen and the US twinned project 6th gen (looking almost indentical)

MIG-41 -- mach 4+ (??)
Some of these countries must produce quicker than 15+ years, from now.
I hope that the Future Combat Air System won't be a complete failure like the A400M progam was. The fact they say 2040+ looks like they have no idea of what they're doing, everything looks so uncertain...
Hybridized UAVs are a very likely path. At this point, humans are the weak link in fighter aircraft operation -- G-force limitations as well as the added weight of life-support systems and on-board avionics are impeding what's really possible.
Ok, who made that Hello Kitty mig?
el diseño del MIG-41 no se parece al diseño que circula por internet
@The Buzz I don't think Sweden is joining the GCAP; however there's been report that Saudi Arabia wants to join the program.
You realize that we are all being conned....these planes exist, because OTHER planes exist, because these planes exist....etc
Big inaccuracy at :21, where the artificial non-intelligent voice says the 6th gen aircraft will offer "unparalleled maneuverability"; 6th gen aircraft will prioritize stealth and speed at the expense of maneuverability. Many will not even have vertical rudders, hence less maneuverability.
Can somebody confirm for me whether the Japanese Jet has been totally cancelled, due to them joining Tempest. Plus, it looks like the FCAS and Tempest projects may join together. If not, Germany is looking potentially to join the Tempest program, scrapping the FCAS.
If we weren't caught up in politics and showboating we would already have the perfect platform for a 6th gen fighter that would have been so refined and polished by now... Yes I am of course talking about the YF-23. Never forget humans made that beautiful craft...
In what universe would the YF-23 ever fulfill the requirements to be a 6th gen aircraft? It wouldn't be VLO enough, it wouldn't have the networking, data fusion, or AI capabilities for it, and it wouldn't have the adaptive cycle engines that are being developed for NGAD/PCA. You can argue all day about whether it would have been better than F-22 (I personally don't think so, or at least not by enough to matter) but to argue it would have been that much more advanced is absolutely asinine

uh actually, the Russian Air Force is typically abbreviated VVS (even & specifically in NATO publications)
@@cowbertnet Yeah, but for casual discussions in english I've seen RuAF more than VVS. Even the VDV is often referred to as "paratroopers" instead of their actual name.
The US helps its associates, but it still keeps some exclusive things in house, just in case..
I wonder when they'll start developing remote controlled drones instead of manned fighters? They've got the tech now, so it's perplexing that the next gen are still manned. All they need do is have a room full of VR simulators and satellite connection, and there's no reason why the "pilots" would even need to leave their country.
That would just lead to unfriendly countries targeting satellites.
The US Air Force already has certain classes of autonomous fighter jets like XQ-58 and turkey will release autonomous fighters next year.
You just need to kill the uplink and the aircraft goes stupid. Plus there is a latency in SATCOM that would be deadly in aerial combat. If you move the control cab to within LOS of the air vehicle, that would alleviate some of this. But these would not be that close to the front lines.
@@Dwendele Warplanes will probably be controlled via a network of satellites rather than just one or even two. It'd be like a military version of the Internet. If one gets knocked out then there'd be another to act as backup. There'd also be transmitters on bases and warships nearer the conflict.
Maybe Trump is right about at least one thing, that we've gotten to the point where we'll need "Space Forces" by militarising space with things like armed satellites? I guess after that we'll then need to have transatmospheric warplanes? Some might snigger at this and see the US Space Force as a bit of a joke, but so were the US Army Air Corp (later the USAF) and RAF in the early days of flight.
Man/machine systems outperform machine systems at the moment. The maned component will operate as a central node with drones.
Don't get me wrong, but it's the first time I see a female talking about military stuff...and she does better than a few channels.
Any country can draw pictures of a Jet and write a list of specs. The only countries capable of actually building those plans are very very few.
That's what this video shows though. Most countries on earth have tiny air forces, the most powerful are on this list. India has built gen4 with 5 sort of there, but using US components. Countries like Saudi Arabia, Turkey etc will just be customers. Though the Saudi's wanted in on Tempest. Countries like Brazil, Canada etc, they'll just be customers too.
FCAS looks like a mix of a f22 and a bit of su57😂
Only a speed of 1243mph. Sooo trying to pee in a coke bottle would be challenging then? LOL
Their plan is to replace higher speeds with stealth and maneuverability technology.
You should also spell out Russian aerospace forces some people confuse RAF Royal Air force with RAF Russian aerospace forces just ssying
That is a important point, I picked it up straight away. The Buzz should have known that.
Everybody will copy whatever the USA designs. The PAK DP is an awesome design
Now which one of those will hit approximately mach 2 and I believe we have a scram jet which has bomber capabilities that can fly into outer space and strike as well.
For a "6th Gen" fighters, which will be released around the same time as 6th Gen consoles, the graphics/models are pretty Playstation 1 grade >< they need a better 3D Modeller.
How many hundreds of drones can you build with the cost of any of those?
Id like to see Germany do a solo project designing its Jet Fighter. Use Mercedes as the designer see what they come up with.. is what Id do 😂

LIes. Only countries with 5th generation jets can create 6th generation jets. Recently only 3 countries in the world have them - Russia, China, USA. Mig-41 will also be able for short time leave atmosphere and enter outer space, Earth orbit like spacecraft.
Well, it's funny that.. As the F35 is a 5th gen fighter designed jointly by the USA and numerous allies. The UK, specifically being a tier 1 partner and able to make adjustments to the aircraft without US permission. All countries, no matter how large or small, the contribution paid for its development and build/designed various components
Leonardo SpA, which will deal with electronics among other things, defines the aircraft no longer as being of aeronautical interest but aerospace, capable of dominating air, land, sea, space and cybersecurity and will be able to act as a mobile platform connected with other peripheral “systems” (including space bases, spacecraft and satellites), piloted and unpiloted (including swarms of drones), thanks to artificial intelligence and super computing capabilities. The aircraft itself can be flown remotely or autonomously (unmanned).

But I don't understand, GCAP is going to produce two fighters with the same technology that is tempest and f-x or just the tempest redesigned for the needs of Japan or a new fighter?
F-X was to expensive for Japan to do alone so GCAP will likely be a multi role aircraft that is able to suit the needs of each country involved like F-35 pretty much.
Supposed to be a new fighter. 6th gen hallmarks are stealth, datalink and long range.
Tempest in England is the name of the plan.
It is designed to research, develop, and demonstrate the technologies needed to develop a stealth fighter within an international framework.
Japan's F-X is simply the name of the Fighter-X program, or the next-generation fighter procurement program.
There have been several F-X programs in the past, and it has also been called FS-X.
In this procurement plan, Japan built its own technology demonstrator, the X-2, for the same purpose as the Tempest, since no existing aircraft was selected as a candidate.
The G-CAP is a completely new aircraft development program in which countries with the same objectives share the cost of developing a new fighter aircraft rather than developing one alone based on their years of research.
Of course, Japan and the U.K. are advanced enough in technological research and development to fly a demonstration aircraft, so G-CAP will bring together the technology and knowledge they have accumulated to make it more advanced than past demonstration aircraft.
They do not consider their plan to be the development of a sixth-generation fighter.
The conditions that would qualify it as a sixth-generation fighter do not exist anywhere in the world.
What they are aiming for is a fighter that has capabilities that the F-35s owned by Japan, the United Kingdom, and Italy do not have.
Naturally, it is assumed that the F-35 will be operated together with the F-35, so all functions, including datalink, will be able to work together with the F-35.
Since the U.S. is responsible for the highly sensitive F-35 datalink system, U.S. companies and the government are actually involved in the development of the G-CAP.
The fact that the two U.S. allies, the U.K. and Japan, have teamed up with each other is of great benefit to the U.S.

MiG-4 Hello Kitty?
Based on this, it's interesting to observe a difference in strategic thinking between Russia and the rest. Russia's replacement for Mig-31 looks for it to be even faster (4 mach) and capable of defending against hypersonic missiles and satellites, while the rest seem to be happy with 1.5 mach. Any insight into why others don't consider speed of that much concern?
The US already tried that out with the SR-17 Blackbird. Its seems that stealth and maneuverability are the future with jets. You dont need speed when you have satellites.
Edit: I think drones will take the place of speedy jets as well.
Speed is fine from point A to point B but in a dogfight no one cares about point A and point B, its about survival. The target that stands still will always be killed first.
That J-28 looks like a bad copy of the F-117 from that top view.
