Beautiful restoration really beautiful I remember my dad had a flashlight just like this when I was a child in the late 70s, I remember well nights we would go for walks and the flashlight lit the way, seeing this brought back a flood of amazing memories to me of times I wish I had with my father again Thank you ♥️🇺🇸🇮🇪
You did a fantastic job there. I can remember my dad having one of these in the late 60's and it was blue. Some time later it occurred to me that he'd painted it. These old torches have a certain quality about them but with the old filament bulb would appear quite dim compared with today's LED technology. Now that's an idea....
Brilliant Martin, theraputic to watch and beautifully produced production.Nice to see once mundane but well made objects that you can actually take apart, restored to a high standard and well worth it. Had one of these for Christmas 1971 !.
Purchased one at a yard sale earlier this year for nostalgia. My wife didn't understand. Now seeing this video has inspired me to try as I considered trying to restore it but didn't know how or even know where to begin. Thank you for posting.
I cannot express how much I love the quality of your videos. Everything is so well done. And as usual the music choices are beyond perfect. The flashlight came out great! Keep the videos coming. I look forward to each new one. Cheers!
Just got me one of these from the UK. It is the torch Indy uses in Dial of Destiny. I will be stripping the paint, light buffing and matte clear coat to match the silver in the film. Your video is a nice reference for how to disassemble and reassemble. Thanks!
Great job...another jewel saved from the rubbish bin. Reminds me of when I was a kid , every hardware store had a selection of metal lanterns and flashlights and gasoline lanterns too. Miss those days....now its all plastic....
Awesome build back to the 70"s. I don't think i could resist putting a high output LED lamp and adaptation so I could run it from my 20 volt power tools battery. It would be like the new hot rods modern engine and drivetrain with that old school 70's body
Love the description! "not as bright as the name suggests but brighter than a candle" had me in stitches! awesome job as usual Martin loved the video, things just aren't made the same today as they were back then
If there was an Oscar for UA-cam Videos, you would Definitely Win One, I would Nominate you for one in any case. Thank you Martin, this video was again S U P E R . . . . . . . ! ! ! ! ! !
I really enjoy the "Retro" aspect of your channel. You resurrect things many of us recognise, and as in the case here I've forgotten about. It might seem strange to kids of today but we used to get torches for Christmas in the 60s and early 70s and I’m sure I remember getting one of these around 1970. I'm sure I remember using it the year we didn't change the clocks back in autumn and it was pitch black going to junior school in winter. I also used to send very poor morse code messages into the night sky, but never did get a reply. Another fantastic video with a job well done and great memories, thank you. I hope you’re feeling a bit better.
I didn't realize what was different till I read your post and went to look at it before he took off the light bulb holder. He did put it back on upside down. LOL
awsome restoration Sir, I love yah channel. I love the 60s and 70s lamps and have a few I'm resturing. It can be fun making battery holders for the ones you can no longer get the batteries for lol
A terrific job. Well done. Have you thought of nickel plating? I believe it is a similar process to zinc plating and when polished is nearly as shiny as chrome. It’s a pity the pop rivets had to be inserted from the outside, the other way round might have looked better IMHO. Lacquering was more treatment than the original had i bet. Why hang the items for spray lacquering but not for painting?
Very nice work restoring the lamp! Maybe you could make a small plastic paint booth with a vacuum to let the paint/lacquer out! I don't think that the respirator does a terrific job when all of your shop is filled with vapors IMHO. Thank you for sharing!
Another great restore! Looks better than an original! Hope the channel blows up for you you really deserve it as you put in a lot of effort in to your videos. All the best Martin.
Nice resto job. I remember when these were a must Christmas present for anyone in my family who was a driver. I think there was also a model with a red warning light at the other end of the handle which could flash if you broke down. Anybody else remember that, and how about that massive battery? Very retro.
Fabulous restoration Martin. Saved for many years. You could try an LED bulb for a totally modern feel. I've just updated my maglite and it's great. Can see where the dog is now in the dark. 😂
Why would he want a " totally modern feel "? He's restored it to how it was in the 1970's. If he wanted it to look modern he could have painted in Day- Glo
What a fantastic restoration you did. I was wondering, after watching others do a restoration, if you do a wet sanding between the coats and also the clear coats? They do it smooth out the paint and to remove dust(?). Fun to watch and cool to see it working again.
Beautiful restoration really beautiful I remember my dad had a flashlight just like this when I was a child in the late 70s, I remember well nights we would go for walks and the flashlight lit the way, seeing this brought back a flood of amazing memories to me of times I wish I had with my father again

Nice work! It's always nice to see people use 2k paint or clear coat and succeed so well. I always end up with terrible orange peel.
My grandma used to have one of these. Watching this video brought back a lot of memories.

Absolutely brilliant job again, Watched it with my kids and they enjoyed it and are getting in to watching your restorations. Keep the vid's coming. 🖒
Martin, I watch an man who restorer who repairs furniture. Yet, you are so similar to him, you work magic on those items you restore. Well done

Yes, I know what you mean bud. Throw away society.
Beautiful job sir! I love restoration projects, and have an affinity for old flashlights!
Awesome build back to the 70"s. I don't think i could resist putting a high output LED lamp and adaptation so I could run it from my 20 volt power tools battery. It would be like the new hot rods modern engine and drivetrain with that old school 70's body
Yes, you can get a drop in bulb for them that pushes out about 200 lumen using the existing battery..
Great Idea! 👍
Fantastic work. I can't believe people give it a thumbs down.
This bring back memories! I had to check this type of flashlight my rookie year at the FD. We used these on the pumper truck.
Love the description! "not as bright as the name suggests but brighter than a candle" had me in stitches! awesome job as usual Martin loved the video, things just aren't made the same today as they were back then
Thanks Arron
Amazing Work...Amazing Grace...Perfect ✝🕊✝🕊✝🕊✝
Great video, reminds me when i was a boy back in the 1960s, and my Dad seemed to have one with him wherever he went.
Thank you for being true to the original color. Brings back many fond memories.
My dad had one of these Eveready lamps. It lived on shelf of the table in the hallway, I remember it like it was yesterday.
Craftsmanship at its best, absolute pleasure to watch, amazing grace at the end what a end, I'm sure the paint room must be well ventilated.

Looking great love the way you take something old and make it brand new again
Great job martin but i think you put light bulb holder upsided down lol
its a high beam now,lol
+1
Spot on, I was wondering what didn't look quite like the one I used to have.
hahaha...I tought it was different but how ? hahahaha
I didn't realize what was different till I read your post and went to look at it before he took off the light bulb holder. He did put it back on upside down. LOL
Remember these when I was a kid brings back memories looks well!!! Love videos Martin
Love the retro fix, and truly enjoyed your rendition of amazing grace
Don't know what I love watching this sort of thing but I do. Great job Martin
Perfect restoration!
awsome restoration Sir, I love yah channel. I love the 60s and 70s lamps and have a few I'm resturing. It can be fun making battery holders for the ones you can no longer get the batteries for lol
Used to be issued with these at work, still have one but now has an LED lamp fitted.
More than new!
Martin, you always do that very well.
Cheers Bernd
Wow great, remember these when I was a kid. Great resto Martin.
The paint job is very good! For a second there, I thought you were going for an LED bulb set-up.
Totally amazing! So satisfying and relaxing to watch.
Very god job Martin, thanks for uploading. I love old thinks.
Very nice job. Love the ending song. Amazing Grace. That's what it's all about.
Who else thought that the lamp part looked like a mini metal gas can. Awesome man.
I remember having one of these back in the day. As you say, ridiculously underpowered.
Stunning job mate.. beautiful song at the end too.. great video buddy
Very good job. It's alive again.
I believe they make LED light bulbs that fit those older lights if you want it to be brighter.
But then it wouldn't be 1970's.
This guy deserves way more subs
You did a beautiful job on the restoration!
I feel asleep watching videos and woke to this playing around 12:20. That was some trippy music to wake up to! lol
That was a great restoration. They really don't make them like they used too.
Awesome job sir. AND I love the song at the end.
That was a awesome restoration project Martin.
That is a cute little retro torch, handle looks like it's off a steam iron! Cheers mate.

Charles Arnold can’t see the excess lacquer if it were to overspray? Red paint is pretty easy to see, and in his work space?
WOW, Very cool, I think it's better than new!
👏👏👏
Superb Martin...very satisfying to watch. Looks like new.
Stunning! Love the music Choice!
Very nice restoration bro !
Cheers bud
sweet way to go. First time you do a great restoration.

Very nice work restoring the lamp! Maybe you could make a small plastic paint booth with a vacuum to let the paint/lacquer out! I don't think that the respirator does a terrific job when all of your shop is filled with vapors IMHO. Thank you for sharing!
Looks beautiful, Martin.

6 volt 996 lantern battery.
Looks like you installed the head unit upside down when you reassembled it. But I like it better that way. I also like your plating setup. Thumbs Up!
Yes I did lol
We had one when I was a kid, I seem to think it was blue. Could be wrong. Nice restore!
Don't think they did a blue one but I may be wrong.
Had one of those LOL. Living in the country, no lighting you had to have your own 😊Good job......
Not very bright by today's standards though Malc
@@RetroHax Still bright enough to dazzle me LOL

Loving this channel, fantastic job! Wish I had these skills!!!

I don't usually wet sand. I dry sand as a rule.
@@RetroHax I wonder what is the difference between wet and dry sanding, other than water?
Wow martin what a find god love it blast from the past lol wish i had your no how brill stuff.
