Nice work! As another commenter mentioned, the lever on the side of the lantern is used to lift the globe for lighting. Also, you don't want your flame to be any higher than about an inch or so. If your flame is too high, you'll get soot and excessive heat, both of which are bad for the globe (I had a globe crack on me because of a misshappen wick that caused the flame to be too high and off-center.) I collect these old cold blast style lanterns and love them. They're real workhorses. They're great for emergencies and for ambient lighting. Remarkably safe too.
These lanterns are the coolest things ever!
I FINALLY FOUND IT!!!! I have an old lantern that was given to me by my grandpa before he passed away and it is in really good shape. I've been looking for another one on internet for years and I'm so amazed to see another one that looks exactly like the one I have!!! I mean, I've seen lots of feuerhands and this is the model, I'm 100% sure! The way you restored it, just amazing. I'm even more excited to start the restoration of mine (it'll be easier since mine don't have any rust at all) and it's amazing to know that I have something from 1912!!! My grandpa was only a 7 year old boy at the time. I'm so happy, thanks for the amazing video.
I just lit my grandpa's 275 Feuerland last night, think he got it in the 1940s, been in my closet for like 23 or so years. Lit right up.
very nice. my only complaint is that you painted the inside of the fuel cap. that might make the threads stick if the fuel melts the paint and it fuses.
The statement OLD is GOLD is really true
This kind of lamp is also with me and I have reused it and now it looks amazing same like new one and I love old materials
How old ar you?
I am a Coleman gas lover and recently got a new Dietz 80.. My mom has a bunch of old lanterns and gave me a czech Meva 864 that is a little rough. Gotta clean the tank and get a new wic but since my 3 year old son loves lanterns I am going to let him work on it with me. It will be his own little oil lantern
Those oil lanterns work great used them for 5 months in Puerto Rico during Hurricane Maria best Lighting in the world I have about eight of them small medium large and I will not get rid of them for nothing in the world great job
It's neat to hear examples like this.. how these types of things were a part of peoples' lives.. it adds more context and interest.
I agree - I live in the Sierra Nevadas and we get winter storms that take out the power about twice a year on average and we use several oil lanterns and also led lanterns in combination to light the house - It's a great combination. It's good to keep extra lamp oil and wicks on hand to light these old style oil lanterns and be prepared for when the worst happens.
In sub-continent (Bangladesh, India and Pakistan) still use them!
Question. How do you put one out? Lower the wick or blow it out?
@@PatrolOfficer161 if you lower the WIC it'll shut off. sometimes I do it sometimes I just blow it out I don't know it works for me good luck. if you have one they're great to have one case of an emergency I lived with it for 5 months got no complaints thank God I had them..
I love the fire engine red color. Very nice.
Great work 👍👍💯💯
:) :) :) 'Feuerhand', good one. Every morning I filled the lanterns, washed and polished the chimneys, kept the wicks trimmed. My special job and I was so proud of myself, still am. I'm going to your channel to see if you have a bullseye lantern.
Que abençoado!!! Linda restauração. Amei.
Interesting nature and people who need so little, and they are very hardworking and are not afraid of anything, good people
Nice job and thanks for sharing. I just started to restore a Deitz #2 lantern & was just talking about using electrolysis to remove the heavy rust. This is the process I use to restore cast iron, skillets etc. Thanks
I love it ❤
Great job
Absolutely beautiful!!
Great job. When you light these lamps, you press the lever down to raise the glass bowl and light the wick from under the glass. :).
Thats the right way to do it! :)
thanks for suggesting the right way :)
That is how my American ones work! I just guessed he did it that way, because it was a European lamp.
@@MrSCOTTtheBADGER the lamp is from germany.... still the lever is the right way to go, this is no different in Europe ;-)
@@thesebi Or in India
I have my dad's original railroad oil lamp with the red glass. It's in perfect condition. It's a family heirloom from my grandfather.
MARAVILHA!

I wish every school teach something like this. It is great video
honer for my channel
They need to teach GRAMMAR first! Tought... Not teach!! Past tense
Old Smith, nice job. James, I believe you mean “taught”. It’s not considered past tense, but “subjunctive tense”. I think Diana is saying something to you in her native language here too. Wish I knew what it was.
Que demais !!!! Beautifuul
Turned out great!
DAAAAAmn that was beautiful work
funnnily enough, i found once of these over at my grandpas place while chopping trees. i was looking for a way to clean it and here you are with the exact type i have. amazing coincidence
Amazing work by Old smith love you and love your work 💕
That was totally relaxing and awesome to watch
Excelent job. Congratulations.
That took a lot of time and effort its nice to see someone cares enough to want to restore old things and make them look brand new again. I would love to do things like that if i had the budget to buy the equipment and I'm a woman. You did a great job on the lantern.
An excellent work! Congratulations
Serious attention to detail
Valla tesoro!
Very nice job.looks and works great
wonderful job 👍
Greetings from India. We call these Hurricane Lanterns and they are still widely used burning the sulphourus blue dyed kerosene. 🙏
That's what we call them in Wisconsin, too. Now I want to see him do the other lantern!
Here it's red!
Called the same in Canada, but we(I) use clear lamp oil.
Yes, there was a huge production of Feuerhand Lanterns in India in the past. Between 500 000 and 2 000 000 per year.
My entire childhood spend with this lantern i love it
Lindo trabalho
Ficou lindo!! Excelente trabalho!!!👏👏👏
This is amazing.
Why does it say 1912 in the title? That's a Feuerhand 276+ Baby Special and clearly marked with "W.Germany" (West Germany, established 1949), they were produced from 1952 onwards, that's a 40 years difference!
Might have a 1912 patent date on it.. or on the globe.
I have 153 Lanterns that I've restored - you are spot on ''right'' about age!
I've got a 275 with w.germany on it, I'm guessing mines 70s because my grandparents were based over there after the war. Deffinalty not 1912
Awesome Job
Really good job.

A great restoration.
Amazing ya always do the best!
Muy bueno y entretenido , felicidades
Beautiful video. I just got one of these.
I liked the way that turned out. Lovely colour combination. The electrolysis cleaning method worked better than expected. I use vinegar for my rusty parts but have been toying with the idea of electrolysis .
Good job mate 👍🇦🇺
Poderoso loco buenazo
Great achievement.
I love you! Thanks for the video!! 😚😍
Y quinques. Son un gran tesoro para mi. Mi abuela aún vive y tiene 102 años saludos. Desde México.
Well done! 😃👌🏼
