Mark Knopfler can be proud of you! His right hand style has never found anyone who could play it properly. First cover of Sultans of Swing that actually sounds like Sultans of Swing. I’m going to replay this so much ! Thank you, you definitely master it ! 👏
master is too often used, but in your case you certainly have mastered this song not only in rhythm and timing but also Mark's picking sound. This is very inspirational.
Your right hand!!!!!!!!! You’re the only one I saw marking the stop/little strumming thing I don’t know how to call it. You know? In the solo as well you marked the double strumming down. Amazing!! Without backing track!
Very very good job Dylan. I close my eyes while listening and I feel MK playing. I can't even imagine the time you spent playing and analyzing the song. So thank you for sharing, and also thanks a lot for the short tutorials of the song. I use to look for Sultans of Swing covers in UA-cam and, definitively, your version is one of best I've ever heard. To be fair, I would like to mention guitar players like Pavel Fomenkov, Martin Cuticchio or Stefan Price (now disappeared from UA-cam) You all keep the vintage sound of Dire Straits alive!
Hi Dylan, This is the gold standard video for this song - congratulations. On the flamenco type strumming - are you hitting any of the strings with your fingers on the down stroke along with the thumb?
Dylan sensational work. You obliviously listened to the master track haha because this is as close as it gets to it. Curious to know what settings you’re running and amp I know it wouldn’t be much.
Same amp sim as You and Your Friend but it’s on the clean channel. The amp sim is called Tone Deluxe v2 btw, it is free. I have mids all the way up bass at like 6 and treble at 7. The. I add a compressor.
Man, you really do play a lot like mk, especially in this cover. Though I do have to tell you some things to help with the sound, all I think you need to do is put selector switch at p-2 and roll your tone down to about 7, then add a little more reverb and compression and a little less gain, but already I've never heard anyone sound as close to the exact sultans tone than you. I too have been heavily influenced by this song and have also been trying to sound the same, I can tell you the names of the exact pickups he used at the time of recording we could help eachother out if your Interested.
I appreciate the comment! I have noticed that the pickup situation with Sultans has had a lot of controversy among Dire Straits fans. In every live version he has played ( I have watched every one on you tube many times) he uses the second pickup position. However, I have been studying the isolated guitar track for about 2 years and to me the second position just doesn't sound as close as the middle position. I just had new strings put on when I recorded this so the tone was a little too bright. My other cover I posted is probably better tone-wise. Anyways, thanks for watching!
@@dylanguitar04 I too have suspicions about either the second or third position, it may just be the pickups I'm using or that maybe the DiMarzio FS-1 and the 57 classic are in opposite spots, either way I'm a big fan of what you do and your sultans of swing right hand main riff lesson I watched to compare the tone and it's soo close. At last I guess this sounds birth will always be a mystery.
@@Rickamond12365 Yup will forever be a mystery. I think both ways sound great and it totally depends on the setup. Glad there are other people out there who are crazy about MK :)
@@dylanguitar04 You're right, the studio version of Mark uses the middle position, this is something I've debated with some sound seekers like us, and many have the same perception.

wooooow this guy.........THIS GUY.....man you NAIIIIILED the sounds the whole thing
Man we need a tutorial 😭 you don’t need to make the whole song, just the part to describe what to do with hands, rhythm etc
The ability to sound this great with no backing track is mesmerizing. I’m inspired… time to bring out the strat.
👍👍
You have the right hand rhythm technique down so well, a lot of people do do that. ❤
Thank you!!!
Wow. Absolutely wow.
Damn, he even got that picked up that little part at 4:12 minutes in, truly impressive how you have an ear for that honestly
Appreciate it!
Bravo, beautiful, just perfect! Congratulations! And thanks for sharing!
Amazing job, guitar on this song is just out of this world
Wow! Just fantastic! If someone just played that for me and said this is Mark Knopfler’s Sultans of Swing isolated guitar I’d believe them. Amazing!

Hi Dylan,
This is the gold standard video for this song - congratulations.
On the flamenco type strumming - are you hitting any of the strings with your fingers on the down stroke along with the thumb?
An Alchemy version please only guitar!!
Thank you!!
what's your string action on the 17th fret my friend?
Dylan sensational work. You obliviously listened to the master track haha because this is as close as it gets to it.
Curious to know what settings you’re running and amp I know it wouldn’t be much.
damn good job, where did you learn that right hand technique?
I figured it out by watching videos of Mark Knopfler over and over
What settings do you use on the amp? And which pickups do you have selected? Incredible sound 🤩

@@dylanguitar04 thanks 🙏🙏🙏
You should make a gear video.
I will soon
Best rendition bar none. How do you do that flamenco roll? Is it on the up- or downstroke?
Thanks! When you do the upstroke you rake the strings with your first and middle finger.
@@dylanguitar04 Thanks! Can't wait to try this! :)
Can you make a tutorial of the rhythm guitar?
Yes I will in the future
@@dylanguitar04 thx bro
good job. Maybe more gain in the amp
Amazing. Just a question how did you get the tone spot on?
I used a free amp sim called ToneDeluxe v2
@@dylanguitar04 thank you
how you put your thumb over the fret 100% of time? i always change it
No sure, just how I learned to play
Great timing. Are you listening along to the original?
I am just listening to a metronome
