I want to put some context before anything, even though I don't like to talk about my life. Having grown up in a very humble and poor family, always comparing myself to other kids at school has made me feel inferior. I spent most of my 20s sick as a result of a surgery that didn't go well and ended up damaging my face for several years, and I even lost weight until I looked like a skeleton. All of this has developed a feeling of not wanting to be observed and go unnoticed. When I started training, almost 3 years ago, I believed that the guys at the gym would make fun of me and it was the opposite, they were very kind to me and helped and encouraged me in everything, just like I do today with newbies. Joey’s got me thinking about gym culture a lot lately. I work out at home and haven’t been a gym member for seven years. These videos remind me of locker rooms when I was in junior high and high school, late 80s and early 90s. I dreaded gym class, and this looks like gym class to me. That might be why a lot of people, who would otherwise join, avoid gyms-and that’s sad.
Overall gyms are great. More variety and you don't need to be as concerned about working to fatigue because there are people there that will help you, which shows to get a better workout in.
It took me a lot of time to join a gym because of American films depicting them as being full of atrocious people. I immediately felt at home when I actually entered - I once couldn't complete a set of benchpresses and wasn't being spotted and a total stranger (not an employee) came and took the bar off my chest. Nobody commented on the form or exercises of others unless requested.
@@gamerknown Most people (like 99% of them) mind their own business at the gym, and at most will exchange nods and short hellos to people they regularly see there. I never understood that whole Planet Fitness marketing strategy that they were safe bc other gyms are full of bullies --utter nonsense. No one should be afraid to join a gym, most people there keep to themselves. and can be very supportive. That being said, don't monopolize machines or gym areas, especially by spending half the time on your phone (looking at you, young ladies)....and always clean up after yourself.

Walk away, give him the spot, call the police, and file charges. Never fight someone unless you absolutely have to, because what I have found that even if it is self defense you can still end up going to jail. Try to walk away and call the police. These gyms usually have video surveillance and know the identities of everyone inside so there is no reason to even stay on premises. Just be sure to keep track of the time the best you can so that the police can find the person on video.

edited: First of all, thank you for the supportive comments.
If during that time I had met someone so rude, I would have reconsidered going to the gym.
Today I am almost recovered and I feel like a new man, who gains more confidence and more self-worth every day.

That might be why a lot of people, who would otherwise join, avoid gyms-and that’s sad.
Overall gyms are great. More variety and you don't need to be as concerned about working to fatigue because there are people there that will help you, which shows to get a better workout in.
Hi Kerry! This is totally off topic what is your profile picture of? The imagery & composition are intriguing.
It took me a lot of time to join a gym because of American films depicting them as being full of atrocious people. It's obvious to me that this man's parents taught him how to inappropriately touch people out of frustration and anger against someone where he feels it's ok to be a bully and rude. Kids learn this behaviour from their main source. God knows if he does this to women and children. This is scary and non acceptable behaviour from a person who should know better as you always aptly put it Joey. The victim reacted well and I'm sure his insides must have been just shaking and his blood must have reached a higher level than normal. Good for you and you showed everyone watching that by remaining respectful, you didn't lower yourself to this other guy's lack of common sense and kindness. I hope nobody takes this bully in - stay at home if you can't control your ego!!! Thanks.
