@@MuckyPup115for someone like myself with severe social anxiety, it actually takes a LOT out of me to talk to strangers at all. Obviously this shouldn’t be the norm, but please try to remember some of us are suffering with our own issues. It doesn’t come as naturally for everyone, and we usually aren’t “trying” to be rude or uncivil in any way.
It’s also a learned thing from trauma… for example I smiled back at an older man in the bus once when I was 17 going to work… that man proceeded to sit next to me, kept touching my thigh, and followed me all the way to work. Not every one has good intentions and sometimes friendly gestures get you into difficult and sometimes scary situations, especially for females.

1998, I was a much younger man and in the gym at the MGM Hotel in Las Vegas. I was getting to my last set on the bench and asked my wife, who was and is in sick shape, for a spot. She chuckled, saying it was way more weight than she was comfortable spotting me on. The only other person in the gym was Randy Travis. I was afraid to ask. I know he gets bothered by people all day, and he probably just wanted to be in the zone for a while. Having no other choice, I did approach him and apologetically asked him if he would assist my wife in spotting me. He was an absolute gentleman and said, "Sure, I'll spot you! We are in the gym. I don't mind being asked to spot you at all!" Randy now uses a wheelchair after a severe stroke. I pray for his comfort as he was a gentleman to me and my wife that day!

    * I think a lot of the videos that earn Joey's ire come from people who purport to "love the gym," but their behaviors don't make sense to me. Generally when we love something, we want to share that passion with others. I'm disabled, and it's the reason I stopped going to the gym. We don't have a lot of choices in my area, and the only affordable ones really are Planet Fitness and Vasa. I'm NOT doing PF, I am not that desperate, so I signed up for Vasa in late 2019. They don't have disabled parking, and apparently don't know, or care, that disabled people still DO go to the gym and try and be as healthy as our disabilities allow. I started asking them in about January or February of 2020 to install disabled parking, emphasizing how dangerous the parking is for someone who is disabled, especially since it is dark out majority of the day, icy and slick, and people can't drive for crap in our area. I was respectful and understanding, trying so hard not to be a Karen, while making it clear how necessary disabled parking is. I kept asking them every year, throughout the year, trying not to be a nuisance, but reminding them that we disabled people still go to that gym(and I am not the only one, there is a wheelchair bound guy that goes). They kept saying "ohhh, well, it takes a while, we have to submit a permit, I'll let my higher up know, blah blah blah". I eventually started messaging their FB, and corporate. Nothing happened. Finally this winter, it had been FOUR YEARS, and I was getting fed up of fearing for my joints and my health every time I wanted to work out, so I insisted on speaking with the highest up manager, as respectfully as I could. One girl was super snotty and dismissive, so I decided to just terminate my membership. They wanted to put it on hold, and not outright cancel, but I insisted, stating it has been four years and absolutely nothing has happened. Another(nicer) manager, a head trainer, came up, and she quietly(because she might get in trouble for suggesting it) recommended going to the BBB. I thanked her, and did that. Vasa's response to BBB was identical to what i have been getting for four years, "it takes time, need permits, it's up to the city, blah blah". So when BBB asked if the answer was satisfactory, I replied with a resounding NO and explained why. I think they still don't have any disabled parking. They don't give a shit about disabled people, is so frustrating

The other thing to mention is that wouldn’t have happened if he was looking at her while she was working out. Some need to realise that people looking at others in the gym is exactly for that reason. I look at people doing exercises if they're doing something I haven't seen before that looks interesting or if i can take tips from their form. I do this to all genders.

I think this is the gym culture in most non large cities or urban areas. People tend to be nicer, not competitive and not interested in filming themselves while working out they go to the gym for the gym. Occasionally young people meet in a respectful manner like this video but its typically laid back and positive.

I was in a similar situation a few years back. I was trying face-pulls for the first time and couldn't get it right without falling forward, so I gave up and moved to a machine nearby. A few minutes later, this girl comes over and does it perfectly, so i ask her for advice. She was super cool and gave me great tips.
We became good friends. Fast forward five years, we just got married. This is the type of gym culture i advocate for. A willingness to teach, learn, and respect each other can only help the community.

Amen brother!! Remember everyone , God Jesus, Loves us all. Repent while you can! Just know, all repentance is, is simply trying to change, and if you can’t, ask God to help. Help is something we all need sometimes, and that we should all be willing to give. ❤✝️
