Great video. This just went from mild interest to MUST HAVE NOW. :) It must be pretty rare for an expansion to make game play *shorter* and better at the same time. Pretty cool!
That little box stood up to the big hammer extremely well! I played with this for the first time this past weekend and it was awesome! Five player game finished in generation 7.
If you play with the "Advanced Rules" that include the expansion already contained in the base game (the cards with the small red marker on it) you start with no production at all. Most people do it that way, at least everyone I play with.
I agree. I feel the price should be closer to 12 or 13 bucks instead of the 18 I paid, basing this on a comparison of popular LCG/CCG packs with a similar number of cards. That being said, even though I think it's overpriced, I also think it's well worth the money considering what this expansion brings to the game.
hell, yeah.. paid 19€ (that's just over 20 bucks!) but it's probably still worth it, cause TM is my favourite game right now.. but well, it was overpriced from the start, the base game cost me over 70$ to be honest.. and those few cards are never worth their price, maybe they should have sold those cards in just a small cardbox? :P
At the end when the box was on the table I was thinking ono he's gonna hit it with his small gavel. Then here comes the big Thors hammer! NOOOOOOO!!!!! hahah
Those on the fence, yes it is spendy... but in my opinion, well worth it if you're getting a lot of plays out of Terraforming Mars! Played with it for the first time last night and immediately wished I had bought it earlier.
Hey Tom, you touch on a couple things that I was really interested in finding out! I also play with all of the resources said to one at the beginning of the game, would you say that this expansion makes the game even faster even if you don't do that? I thought maybe those things might even out.
Bought it, played it. Its good for customize your corporation and diversify the game early. Not enough new project cards in the box. Prelude expension feels inexistant after mid game. Its a good addition to the base game, just need more project cards. 8/10
This looks a must-buy for me. I love Terraforming Mars, but it can go long(3+ hours with 4 players) this seems to, even marginally, decrease the play time which I'm all for. My main gripe is the price tag. $20 MSRP for a small deck of cards.... Come on man
I'm curious, do you always start with 0 production (not considering prelude cards or corporations) or do you prefer to start with 1 production in each production? we used to start with 1 each cause it speeds up the game..
This might be weird to say, but while I do like how the game plays overall as well as the art style and look of Terraforming Mars, I really hate this game because of how big of an advantage other players more experienced than you have. The few times I've played this game, I ended up in last my first two times, and next to last on my third play. Fun to watch though.
Can can be said about many games. I never expect to win on the first playthrough of a game, especially if playing with seasoned gamers. My group recently taught a friend of ours this game and he played a very competative game of this on the second play.
So you’re saying that people more familiar with the system do better than those not familiar with it? I think that’s a positive rather than a negative.
I feel quite the opposite. I feel that as long people get the base principles, they can play competitively. Of course it depends on the meta. For example a friend and I we like to play as many cards as possible. We try to build an engine and try to make our cooperation work the best way possible. With another friend it is like playing solo. Rushing to get the Terraforming going asap.
"Ok, 1 more!" (does 3 more)
Works brilliantly.
Speeds the game time back up to how it was before Venus next.

I really like the new theme music at the end!
Just got the expansion today, sounds very great. This video helped me understand it better.
Good review as always Tom
Thanks!
Do you have to play the card right away if u pick the one with 25 discount?
7:39 Isn't the normal setup of the game with all resources production set to one?

Bit expensive for just a few cards... I have bought it anyway.

I'll never not play with this expansion either! So small, but sooooo good.
what is the song name that starts at 8:17?

Playing this tonight!! I think it’ll speed up the game a lot.
Its out of stock everywhere. Anyone know where i can get it?
It's a near perfect expansion.
Patch for the base game, which is much needed considering the crazy lengths.
TriColoredTiger crazy lengths??
2 hours for a 4 player game for my group.

I like this "preylude" pronounciation :D
But that is how you have to say that isn’t it???
@@10freekie2 English/Brits pronounce it as Prell-yood.
Bought it, played it.

Can you use this expansion without Venus next?
I want to buy the game and one expansion, and I think this one looks the most interesting.
But why are the cards horizontal???
They are corporations
120min lol
Exactly lol
My first two games with 2 other players were almost five hours long lol

I'm disappointed in myself that I could only name 3 of the 5 authors on the SF memorial card......
Mistake at 6:14 : it is 25 worth of materials not 27. 9 + 16 = 25 :p...
I think the designers meant 'eccentric' investor...
Pray- lude
Somehow Tom's videos keep stuttering for me. And only his. I don't know why.
it is also 20 bucks for 47 cards in an unnecessary big box.
No. 20 bucks for a very enjoyable experience. Of course if you measure the time of design per weight, you'll be dissappointed. It was an insta buy.
You've been ripped off. Other expansions contain more cards and cost less than 50% of Prelude. The TFM cards aren't even high quality!
I paid only 10. But, yes, the box is unnecessary big.
You're paying for the game design, not for the physical cards. What matters is quality, not quantity.
You would hate netrunner

Agree, small but punchy expansion!
This newer ending cult of short. :(
a garbage expansion
