for those who have the good switch on both tracks and it still doesn't work try to solder the golden pads of the diod . Because they are lose and dont make good contact. That was the problem in my case.
Once I got my switch apart, there was hardly any blackening on the contacts. Just tiny dots. I went ahead and cleaned them up with a piece of emery board anyway. I was sure it couldn't possibly make a difference. I was wrong! My saw now works as well as new! I'm embarrassed to admit how long I had been just living with the issue! New saw in about 20 minutes! Thank you for taking the time to make this video! You are a HERO!
Been looking for months on how to fix this. Cleaned the contacts and started working. I used Brasso metal polish to clean contacts. Works great thanks for the video.

Thank you so much. No more scratching my head trying to figure out why this was happening. Very clear instructions and tips on the springs, little spongey seal etc. Very very helpful. Folks like you make UA-cam awesome.
I watch tons of UA-cam videos on how to make repairs, but this was bar far the absolute best one. Very informative and detailed instructions. Well done!! Greatly appreciated.
This video deserves thumbs up, got my own circular saw working in 15 minutes after watching this. You just saved me hundreds of dollars in repairs and spare parts! Keep up the good work 😃
Fixed with my 2 teen boys. Thank You. They pulled the button apart springs flew all over the place. It was a great lesson. Thanks to the video they were able to do the full repair and even put the switch back together.
Excellent instructional video, and worked perfectly. Had just tinny dull dots on the contacts but scraping them clean worked. You’re right about not taking the trigger assembly apart if you can avoid it. Had the spring pop out and took a lot of fiddling to get it back in the right place.
I stumbled on this after my circular saw decided to quit on me this past weekend. I just spent about an hour and it is now back up and running thanks to your excellent, detailed instruction. Many thanks, my friend!
Just did this and it was the fix for my saw. There where hardly any black spots on the contact points in the trigger on my saw, but I scraped them anyway and tested with multimeter. Worked fine after that. Thank you so much!!!
Yet another satisfied watcher, my son has been driving me bananas for the last two or three years and this is finally gonna make me dive back into some projects. Many thanks.
Thank you so much! I was told by the store that the switch was part of the engine assembly, explaining the estimated $199 repair cost when sent in after warranty. I actually just pulled the switch out and used CRC QD Electronic Cleaner spray liberally into the switch box holes without even disassembly, and bam! I have a working saw again! Zero dollars! Thank you for your video showing how simple to get at this is. And shame on Milwaukee for estimating this cost for such a likely simple issue.
You rock! Guy sold a M12 circular saw with battery and charger for $80 to us and threw this m18 saw in free due to it working intermittently, and this video now just fixed it. Now I got two saws, a battery and charger for $80. You freaking rock dude! That black trigger spring was almost the death of me and I was going to quit and throw the saw. Thankfully I'm mature enough slightly to have been patient. Thank you so much for this video You freaking ro
Did you have electric continuity at the battery connection prior to doing this repair? I am experiencing the same issue. However, My multimeter says I have continuity at the battery contact when I pull the trigger.
Hundreds of the same comments, but I'll say it again. This was my issue and the fix was super easy and quick thanks to you. Appreciate you making the video.
I have the same model in the video & had the same problem. Contacts didn’t look bad, but like you said, that tiny bit of carbon is enough to cause a problem. Saw works like new now. Thanks for the video, brother. 👍
Great video. Taking time to indicate to sizes and how many of each fastener are the little things that make a how to video superior. Wish me luck i was going to throw my saw out.
Yeah I was really disappointed to have this problem too. I got a whole garage full of Milwaukee stuff and no problems, except this saw. I hope you get yours fixed.
i have the regular skilsaw but followed your instructions and found a piece of plastic had melted and contacts wouldn’t close , cleaned it up and placed back together, best $5 spent at the local swapmeet 😂 thanks dude
Thank you for sharing this vid with us. My circular saw starts spinning slow and right alway turns off, then I turn it on again and does the same thing starts slow and then stops could it be the same thing as yours.
@@thefiXfiles I see some comments that it will happen again, which makes sense. Is there some type of grease or something that can be put on the contacts to stop the problem from coming back or at least to delay it a while longer?
My spring popped out as well. I was having trouble loading it with a small flat head, I guess it wasn’t flat enough. I ended up loading the spring with the flat end of a zip tie and I was able to reload it and easily pull out the zip tee through the slot.
thanks! This video helped me get my saw working again. I also took it too far apart, so the tutorial on that hidden spring (that I lost and replaced) was great. I was a bit concerned when working on it that the trigger didn't have much range of motion when assembled compared to on it's own, but that turned out to be normal. Working perfect!
Anyone found a permanant fix? I have two of these saws both on the original blade ffs and the both do it.... Pain in the rear... Lost all faith in the brand..
Was wondering why the LED light would turn on if the saw isnt working but it looks like is wired to the safety rater than the trigger switch. Was gonna toss the saw when Milwaukee said 195 to repair. Now I'll crack it open and see. Thanks.
The small spring that’s with the horseshoe shaped metal, is that important?? Reason for asking is that I lost it and just replaced it w/ a pen spring that I found. The saw seems to work but just wanted to know if it’s an important part of the switch
When putting it back together, the switch sticks on when i use the horseshoe "clicky" spring. If i reassemble without it, it releases back to the off position. Is the spring merely for the tactical response?
Thank you. Followed this guide and it fixed my problem. I would say it’s not difficult to do but requires a methodical, careful approach. Take your time. I cleaned the contacts with very fine (wet and dry) paper after a wiping with cloth. Contact cleaner fluid would be useful if you have some. Worked first time.
Thanks for the tip. I've taken apart my file a few times, and didn't think to measure the operation. The problem is clearly in the contacts, otherwise I didn't bother to look into the cleaner - just pour it through the screw and open the brake cleaner (I think you can use pure alcohol), blowing it out with a squeeze I tried again and the passes disappeared. Once again.
Thank you for this! Geez, this was frustrating. Had it "repaired" once and it worked for about 2 weeks, then... :( ANd the randomness of it all was the worst!
Thank you! Great video. Mine does the same, intermittently works. I’ll be pulling it apart when I have an hour. Interestingly enough if I give it a little wack in the side when trigger not working it usually works fine after that no matter how many times I use it. Until it sits for a while anyway.
Great video! Milwaukee still hasn't admitted its a defective saw 6yrs later. They do encourage you to send them a dm on their social media bot drive for anyone who posts about it on reddit though, like thousands of dudes/dudettes complain of the same issue and the milwaukee bot just pretends its the first complaint in history and asks for your email😏.
I hate when companies do that crooked crap. “Oh wow we’ve never had anyone complain about this before.” Trying to gaslight their own customers. Shame on Milwaukee
I ended up ordering a new Diode, which I think is the real issue for faulty trigger switch? My contacts weren't out of norm and it got me thinking it could be faulty diode, as that's a main characteristic of intermittent power issue when diode starts to go bad. @@thefiXfiles
Good stuff, fixed my saw. I added some dielectric grease on the face of all the contacts, hopefully that will keep the contact faces cleaner. Likely not entirely milwaukees fault, whoever they sourced the switch from fell short on type of metal used on contacts, expected amp draw and arc produced, etc. In industrial contacts that would have a capacitor across the contacts (along with the diode) to absorb the arc created when contacts are opened and closed. Its called a "quench arc". You will notice in the video that the control contacts (small wires) are the contacts that are failing to close. Mine was the same.
NICE now my second worm drive style framing saws has stopped light comes on full battery several lmao of them tried many times nothing but the light I pray this is it

My saw was brand new and started this issue. A possible reason is using a smaller battery. I’ve found that too low an amp can result in corrosion. Use 4.0 or higher on the saw. Also DO NOT disassemble the black trigger itself with its mainspring. A real bugger to reassemble. I found a pointed pick worked good to properly reseat the spring.
Liked and subbed…outstanding vid and well done! I can only assume this may be the same fix for the switch that has plagued the M18 Fuel 7 1/4” circ saw, second gen I believe it is, model 2732-20. That saw was and still is notorious for this switch/starting problem and if you read even recent reviews at Home Depot, etc, it’s still eat up with this problem. I’d be willing to bet without looking at a parts diagram that they share the same switch.

Normally I’d give someone a hard time for Harbor Freight tools, but apparently we can’t trust Milwaukee tools to not break after light use either so idk what to think anymore lol! 🙃
