I'm 28 months sober today. Alcohol was my addiction. Stories like Patrick's here on SWU helped me along my journey to getting my life back. I'm very proud of you Patrick, keep up the great work! Anyone that is currently struggling with addiction, know this: You CAN overcome it and get your life back. No matter how many times you fall, get back up!
Congratulations 🎉 I’m coming up on 4 yrs after 25+ yrs of hopelessness, guilt and shame that came with my drinking. I’m proud of you - keep doing the work 😊
I decided to start going to a 12 step meeting and work with a sponsor because of him. His complete honesty is the sort of traits that I would like to have myself. Thank you Patrick, for sharing your story. You are a massive inspiration to me, and you show that we are all redeemable.
Patrick you're awesome. A year ago I started taking the 12 steps seriously and got sober and you honestly helped me immensely. The last day of my last spree I sat on my sofa, having finally come clean to my friends and family about the extent of my problem, and cried like a blubbering idiot while watching every one of your videos. I watched SWU loads in those next few months and would always default to your videos when I needed some identification and you always made me feel better. Thank you so much and congratulations on your 2 years !
Awww Patrick, we've been rooting for you and you look GREAT!!! GOOD FOR YOU!!! You're the nicest person I've seen on Mark's channel, literally a genuinely nice guy, addict or not!!!
That wasn't supposed to sound critical of the people, just of the rehab. I've been to one 4.5 years ago and while it's a mistake to ever say you're 'cured' I haven't had any relapses to date. To be honest it had to work for me as it was very expensive and I just couldn't afford to let my parents down, they couldn't barely afford it once let alone 23 times. I've paid them back. They didn't want the money they're just happy but I wanted to for me.

I think one of the main things that separates Patrick from a lot of the guests is that Patrick has a support system that many don’t. Sounds like he just liked to party, and basically took the party too far. A lot of times we forget that all of this type of behavior Comes with a ton of dopamine and feels great in the moment, this guy just took it overboard, and eventually when he wanted to quit, he had a career and a loving family to fall back on.
Most regular people would have lost their jobs, then their house etc etc. If you end up on the streets with no support network, you are basically done. Glad he’s turned it all around now
Patrick you bought me to tears, not everyone dealing with addiction is able to overcome and still gets to have a great life. You my brother escaped a very hard life and even death ! And I’m so ecstatic for you. May you live a healthy, wonderful life with your bestfriend! I’m so proud of you.

Thanks for coming and chatting again patrick. I'm nearly half your age but struggle/have struggled with the same drugs. My story is very similar to that of Patrick’s and I have been clean for 6 years and 2 days. My life has never been better! Thank God for giving me chance after chance and keeping me alive through everything that I did.
I had 27 years of using heroin, crack, meth, all of it. And most of the people who loved me thought maybe I was one of those unfortunates that the recovery community speaks of who just can't and won't stop using. Through it all, I had my husband, who never gave up. No matter what I did, how long I disappeared, how much money I stole, etc, all the things addicts do, he stayed waiting for me to find my way out. And I did. It's been over 6 1/2 years now of sobriety and it's beautiful! And I truly believe I would be dead, in jail, or completely insane somewhere if he wasn't by my side, giving me unconditional love through it all. God put him in my life as my guardian angel. So Patrick has his Nancy, I have my Mark. Don't ever give up if you're feeling hopeless. There's always a way. There are good people out there, like Patrick & Mark who would help you find help if you need it. God is good ♥️
When he talked about all the recovered addicts at his wedding it gave me hope.. it’s something I’ll be thinking about today it is possible! I’ve been dependant on opioids for twenty years, I’d do anything to get into a detox or rehab but up here in Canada it’s unaffordable and unavailable to me.. I’ve done cold turkey three times in the past five years, the last time off suboxone almost killed me so if there’s ever a next time it has to be under medical supervision like detox.. sometimes I fell like it will never happen, but hearing these stories of recovery make me happy and believe there is always hope!! SO proud of this guy!!
Don't give up. It can still happen! I got clean 8 years ago. It can definitely happen. Can you get back on suboxone? Is there anyone that can help you out? Just be by your side to cheer ya on? I can from a far! I got faith you can do it
I’m sorry I don’t mean to be a dick, but I’m in Canada too, and I’ve also been opiate dependant for 20+ years. Thing is, for 10+ of those I was on methadone, and during that time I was able to get my life back in order, get 2 diplomas and 1 degree, and set my self up with a career and a future Are you not able to live a relatively “normal” life while on suboxone? It’s not like you’re out looking for drugs or money every day. Your life while on suboxone should be far removed from the life of an addict using street drugs still
Try sublicade it’s a monthly injection, most people that have used it including myself csme off it after one month with little to no withdrawals!!! I’m serious SUBLICADE is a miracle drug?!! Every opiate addict should try this route.
I believe in you...your going to find your way. I think there are rehabs in Canada that may be available to you at no charge...please check into those avenues. A little help is better then none. Wishing you only the best and strength in getting clean.
Everyone is so different with addictions. Some have a roof over their heads. Some have jobs and some are homeless and not able to function at a level which another may be able to. It's all sad...
I feel like I’ve been waiting forever to see Patrick’s update. I’m so glad to see him overcome the challenges that he faced. I think the coolest part about Patrick is how down to earth he is and relatable in many ways. So happy to see him doing well and ended up with his “ride or die”!
I'm so glad that SWU helped you change your life. We love this type of update. Your boss sounds like a good human for giving you chances. Your honesty is what made you so interesting and endearing.
To be fair, it’s nearly impossible to be terminated from a city job. Like Patrick said, he gamed the system because he knew the rules, and he knew his boss was a by-the-book kind of manager. In short, he did what addicts do almost as well as getting high… he manipulated him.
Seeing Patrick first thing this morning really made me happy. He’s so self aware and such a beautiful soul. I pray for nothing but happy moments and a great life for him and Nancy. Great job Patrick we love you! 👏🏻 ❤
6 years clean for me on April 1, my wife stayed thru a solid decade of addiction, she loved the sober me and somehow withstood the wait, she has always been a better person than me.
Mark after my Dad passed away i had no money for booze and crack. It was two yrs later i got sober. Thinking back now my Dad did not know what enabling met. I always lied and said i needed money for car insurance. No money i got sober and so Grateful what a life change. 🙏

Are you not able to live a relatively “normal” life while on suboxone?
This made my day!!!! Thank you for sharing this update, Patrick! I wish you a life full of happiness and sobriety!
I’m so proud of you man. Crazy how mentally strong you are
I feel like I’ve been waiting forever to see Patrick’s update.
I was waiting for an update from Patrick. Great job, Patrick. So many people who you’ve never met are genuinely proud of you.

The best interview you've done, and you have done some bangers! I've been watching from day 1. Love Patrick. I lived that life. I understand it. Been to prison 3 times, been to 12 treatment centers, I really lived that life. 9 years sober.
So excited to see this one!! Patrick, you have no idea who so many of us are, but we feel connected to you. Thank you for sharing your life with us!!! 💕

Congrats to you for being sober. AND CONGRATS TO MARK, after so sad stories and deaths of the people you interviewed, you need a positive story. I hope that this story will make some of your negative days seem worth it.

The last five minutes of this video really highlight coming out of active addiction and it really is such a great feeling being able to show up and experience freedom. Excellent follow up interview!
