      @@DrDeuteron I don't have an engine, but I think the main problem in the endgame was having his own king trapped by his own rook and stuck in a corner unable to defend itself.

      it's a lot easier when you're told there's a forced checkmate, then you just need to find the forcing move that compromises the king the most and then find how to take advantage of it

      Yes agreed there's so much story to tell , and of course the trip to Paris which at the time was sex drugs and rock n roll city. I think Leonardo would have made a fantastic Morphy 😀

    Agadmator is a clever chess man and a clever UA-camr. I see chess boards in my recommended videos, and think, "Ah, maybe there's something more interesting than a chess game, like car crash videos." Then I see "Seriously, How Does Something Like this Happen?" and Morphy with Thug Life sunglasses, and can't resist. What was I even thinking? Nothing's more entertaining than agadchess.

    i think it was gm ben finegold that once remarked morphy is so impressive because nobody else at that time was even close to being this good, and usually you get good by playing against good players, which he could not do, so how on earth did morphy get this good?

    Morphy’s mastery of chess just seem to have no end. And Boucher wasn’t even playing that badly, just that Morphy’s (blindfolded) abilities soar way above those of his opponent. Way, way above... Morphy was clearly playing Chess at a level that his opponents didn’t even realise was possible. (My sympathies to them all !!)

      It's the start of one of the most famous games in chess, called the "Opera Game." Morphy puts on a clinic. If you search Opera Game on UA-cam you will find several vids.

    Like Bierwirth, this guy left his queen totally out of position to assist in the defense of the king. I suppose he wasn't accustomed to playing people who knock down the king's fortress like it wasn't there, and didn't realize his queen needed to be in a position to stop such an assault.
