Completely agree! Every so often in a spot here and there I would hear something that resembled Metallica. For a bit I thought I was picking up a timeline of Metallica's history. But obviously original content here.
Back in the early days of Blind Illusion my musical Brother K.H would take full control of the production of our sound in the studio. Most notably Trilogy of Terror and the Slow Death demo . He actually produced The Sane Asylum though his mgmt would not allow his name to be listed . Many of the nuances and textures were his doing as well as every solo's final outcome. I would play several takes until he decided that we got it. Actually every decision pertaining to the sound and quality of the entire project fell on his shoulders and for that we to this day we are thankful. This E.P Portals is a work of Art! I would've never guessed the big black dude that plays drums for Paul McCartney did drums on this album!
is too short
@@Telekinesis2024 Technically it's an EP
@@Skunginoggin345 what a sad
@@Telekinesis2024 He should really do a whole album, this is awesome.
Wow the abstract feeling from this album is something I was not expecting from kirk this stuff is awesome and sounds amazing
Felt like Pink Floyd, orchestral, Yanni, Kitaro, Steve Vai. Grandmaster Hammett thank you
parts of maiden and monster remind of something from jeff beck's blow by blow
Haha I hear Kitaro too.
Definitely hearing some Sabbath influence too!
also a bit of Scorpion's "Sails of Charon" around 13:00
That was a journey!! First time hearing this epic Kirk Hammett window into his mind!! Wow! Not what I expected. This sounds new! Fresh. So many unexpected arrangements and crescendos. I have to listen to it a couple hundred thousand more times to even get a feel for this plethora of movements. Off the Bat, Brilliant!
cliff and kirk definitely would’ve collaborated on this if cliff was still here
It's kirk kind of thing and awesome. it's cinematic and contains new ideas in music. it has lots of strange feelings. Thanks, dear Kirk!
I agree. It sounds as if he were telling a tale/story. Amazing stuff.👍
Smashing quality!! Love your compositions. Congratulations kirk, keep going!!
Excellent solo guitar work, colours & feelings through every track!!! Kirk´s sound define the modern metal scene... Abrazo power desde Buenos Aires !!!
Perfect sound. Thanks Kirk. I am happy to see you don't forget your roots. (Movie tracs and IRON MAIDEN )
Kirk, thank you! Art is art is art, this is from the soul.
I like it. The album is good. Good rock music. With great inserts.
I think it's perfect for the movie. The music is heroic. Kirk makes good music. I respect this man.
High Plains Drifter will be on a movie sound track!
Coming back a year later. i gotta say i still fucking love this. I just feel kirk is worth so much more than he puts out there.
This is fucking great totally unexpected from the long time metallica shredder kirk🤘
Listened to it early on today and was like dannng that's class man! Now back again and I'm still all like daaang!!🙏🤘🤘🤘🤘
When i finally make my spaghetti western, Kirk will be the composer.
at 16:09 it sounds like its going towards an intro for the knight rider theme.... love it..... i also wrote a riff that was inspired by knight rider and its kinda like the same idea as that part... awesome
Mr.Kirk did his miracle again.I salute you Sir
This is a solid piece of art and work from Kirk. You can really hear his range of influences from Beck, Uli Roth, Schenker, UFO amongst others. The themes of the music seem to reflect his influences and hobbies as it should.
This kirk guys pretty good, he's gonna be big one day. Screenshot this
Gonna be big someday...huge understatement of the decade. Lol
Nah, he seems fit and exercise a lot so that he will be big one day I find hard to believe..
You might not know this, but he used to be in a big metal band. Exodus, i belive.
Thanks for the upload! Very interesting EP indeed - a lot of great music inside!
Holy crap i slept on this album way too bad... It's amazing
Very very good Album!! It brings back a lot of the old Metallica mood! I think a good name for this Album would have been 'Revelations'. Well done Kirk! More of this!
Jon Theodore is such a great drummer. Everything I have ever heard him perform on is just solid, classy and inspirational.
maybe they should let kirk write the next metallica album this sounds really great
They did that once, and he lost his MP3 player with all the stuff on it...
@@EvilMerlin Lol
@@EvilMerlin It wasn't an MP3, it was his iPhone lol. James said in an interview "That's what he claims. I don't know why he doesn't have that stuff backed up on his computer"
@@rocafella142 Mp3 player, iPhone... back in the day they were the same damn thing.
@@EvilMerlin Not true at all. They're very much different. And you say back in the day like it was 15 or 20 years ago. Kirk just lost that iPhone end of 2015 or beginning of 2016. When it was time for everyone to present riffs for hardwired, he had nothing and said he lost his phone.
Kirk Hammett is true to his roots, this album contains allot of elements from underground horror and goth culture, along with more versatile punk sounds. He took Goblin(the horror music guy) metal, goth, and punk.. and mashed them together... Its like super crossover!
I'm not someone that comments often, it's taken me months. But I have to say.....BRAVO!! Kirk is phenomenal!!! He plays with so much passion. I feel it everytime I hear him play. I'd love to see him play this EP live. And that's saying something, because I've never seen Metallica live!
Not that I wouldn't like too, but I don't want to see them in a Stadium. I prefer hearing them in a smaller venue. Up close & personal!!
❤❤❤ love when musicians step a little out of their box. Go Kirk! This is amazing! Also love instruments!
MORE!!!! Ive Been A Metallica fan since 1984 when my oldest brother salpped Ride The Lightning in the cassette deck to wake my dead ass up!!! This solo album from Kirk is fuckin brilliant!!!
Have not bought anything Metallica related since the black album was originally released but Im def gonna get a physical copy of this
A gift! The 5:20 solo of Maiden and the Monster made me cry. Reverence!
It’d be interesting to have him do a film score. Could be greatl
You’re my hero Kirk. Would never have picked up a guitar if it wasn’t for you. ❤️
This just shows how versatile Kirk can be on guitar, very unique and different then the old metallica riffS and style. I enjoyed this very much.
this shows how much he sucks, but ok.
Not for leads. It's all the same.
He's always had some really odd phrases.
Justice has quite a few of those odd phrasings.
This is phenomenal. Great instrumental album. Congratulations Kirk.
Love you Kirk and I love this new album your music takes your mind of on a journey. 🤟🔥❤
Wow, just killer! I'll be listening to this and enjoying it for years. no doubt
Won't comment anything. This sounds just fine for my ears 🤘🏻
that’s a comment
I'm so glad this guy finally released his first EP. I've always known kirk had something to offer and this 'album' sounds real great to me.
Hopefully not his last. Kudos to you, kirk! 🎸🤘
Kirk perfectly blends his influences in this ep.
I have to admit kirk, you did a great job! I like that there's not an overwhelming amount of wah.
Nice insight into your personal style, it's a nice EP!
I love Kirk’s older solos without the wah. It has its place but was overdone in later albums for me.
"The Jinn"s exotic eastern tinged themes blends brilliantly with a real bang of The Scorpions classic "Sails of Charon" in the tracks more riffy moments, especially the chords and riffs near the end. The Incantation has brilliant riffs and cool tangents that, to me, would sound incredible on a Metallica album. I want Kirk to sound more like this on their next album. This is a classy ode to his other fave genres that highlight how good is is on his own terms.
damn. the odyssey style of songwriting on this project from the Metallica camp makes it the first in a long time to remind me of why they inspired me to start playing music. so ambitiously cinematic and explorative
Damn Kirk, taking us back in time while showing off them chops. I hear maybe a smidge of some Metallica in there (about 5 - 8%), but a lot of newer shit that we’ve never experienced before from ya.
You earned it too after the decades of the sweat and tears poured while traveling around the world my dude.
Completely agree! Every so often in a spot here and there I would hear something that resembled Metallica. For a bit I thought I was picking up a timeline of Metallica's history. But obviously original content here.
Holy moly!!!! Batman!!!! This is incredible,Instant favorite album
This is the best thing to happen to metal for a long time.
It is exactly what I expected , a brilliant soundtrack to a secret screenplay. I listen to this quite often and every time I do I am transported in my mind and I see the movie that is the result of Kirk's vision. with love and respect MHB
The Sane Asylum is one of the best metal albums ever.
Jeez!!! I haven't heard Kirk play this grand since Cliff was around. I know they worked together to harmonize Kirk's leads. But this is really impressive.
Great work, ripper.
Kirk is and has always been incredibly talented and since cliff died he has really been the glue that kept Metallica together
Money is the glue that has kept Metallica together.
@@TempleGuitars Right their success; they love touring and playing live. They are the highest grossing Hard Rock / Metal touring band.
Of course their albums are all excellent as well.
@@TempleGuitarsthe passion has been it. You think they really need money at this point? 😂
Who can't stop listening to this....?
I LOVE KIRK HAMMETT!! Incredibly talented and extraordinary musician! Great music!! Thank you so much, Kirk! You are AMAZING!!
I don’t care what anyone says one of the greatest ever
Im saving this for a mescaline trip. Kirk knows what it is.
Wow Thanks Kirk Hammett for the music
Kirk should definitely have more influence and power in Metallica. Truly Amazing work. So cinematic and atmospheric
I was just thinking that Kirk could have some movie soundtracks in his future. 👍🏼
That would be so badass. Maybe something HP lovecraft flavored for definite. I agree ADAM my brother. 😂
He's been lazy when it comes to Metallica. Can't remember how to play his own Metallica solos. Loses material for albums and has to be like a hired soloist brought in to only play the solos. Metallica has been much like a 3 man band.. with Kirk
@@nalehale415
Have you looked at his hands? Dude has RA. And Metallica has pretty much always been Hetfield and Ulrich writing and then the other two come in and do their thing.
@@nalehale415 It's been that for only one album though
OK, now release the full album Kirk! Cause this is good stuff!
Actually James told him according to Kirk that is a learning and growing experience for Kirk .
I really appreciate this work.Kirk one of Metallica's souls!
This is fuckin' brilliant, it must be said. Fresh, melodic, thoughtful, tasteful, and even moving at times. I've been humming random bits of it and I didn't expect that at all. Let's hope Kirk does more solo stuff!
Good guitar tone Kirk made it possible for every guitar player to stay up to date with his signature wha wha double note toneality New music brings new possibilities to the table ten out of ten the Satchs prodigy overview of Kirk's array of possible guitar arrangements.
Someone needs to make a western-/zombie movie with this soundtrack! 🧟♂️⚡️🌄🗽
Love the album Kirk great work! Wish for your continued success (and that we get more albums:)
Beautiful vibes .This Ep Is so fresh and sound so cool!! And there are parts of Old school riffs too..Love It!!! Thank you Kirk , Amazing work♥️
I recommend listening to this at the gym, went perfect with my warmup
"The Jinn" is *awesome* i'm still bumping it from time to time
I knew it !! Hammett will play something like Terror!!! Monsters and atmospheres!!! Hope he make a movie he knows what terror is !!!
Love how in some parts this sounds more like old metallica than metallica, a lot of ride the lightning vibe
This is my favourite thing that Kirk has done since Master of Puppets. Bravo Maestro Hammett!
You make me sick.
he can't play ahaha
@@Taylor.Dude. did you understand what you wrote?) If you like Kirk's game, you don't have a hearing :D Typical juvenile defender
Very interesting. Dave Murray should do a solo album too. Thanks!!!
Kirk's got a good ear for melody, obviously knows his western music history, and has good lick/lead ideas, but it shows that he's never had the opportunity to really hone his songwriting chops. If he's able to practice more and tighten up his ideas, he's got some great material in him. I can understand how he'd have a [lost] phone with 600 ideas in it - he just needs better focus and to really, really push himself to determine his own voice. Solid first effort though from a 40 year veteran and member of the biggest band on the planet.
Don’t get me wrong I’m a fan of all that metallica has ever done… but this… this exceeds my expectations. This is hands down some of my favorite riffs Kirk has ever written. Metallica should really give him more say in the band. This felt inspired, in fact it inspired me once again. Something I haven’t really felt from metallica for quite a few albums now. This is going on the everyday playlist 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 amazing job Kirk my hat goes off to you
Solos are whack though
If Kirk was smart, he'd just put together his own band. Let Lars, James and gorilla boy find a new guitarist. Lol
Actually he wrote some of the most iconic riffs of 80s Metallica, like the chorus on Master of Puppets and the "die" riff in Creeping Death.
Metallica mostly use Hertfield's riffs as main riffs, and Kirk's riffs in segments.... I just remember how diverse Kirk's riffs can be.... Just listen to My Apocalypse.... That track was mostly made off of Kirk's riffs....
😂 ohh I am going to have a fit
I so did not expect Kirk to play this... I actually really like it the more I listen to it.
Only one second in and I'm pleasantly surprised. Thus is great!!!
