We use these almost exclusively. Most of the MEP can be run within the web minimizing the need for soffits so it's great for the owner and the trades love not having to cut through a solid web. They're also easy to work with for the framers. It's a bit of a mystery to me why they aren't more widely used in the industry, given that they've been in the marketplace for quite awhile. Great product.

No mystery at all I joists are cheaper , albeit not by much. And for ours the building industry is incredibly conservative, lazy.

Just went to the Triforce dealer locator map and while they are all over New England and Northeast, they get sparce below Maryland. The closest dealership near Asheville NC is about 300 miles on the coast. So the question would be the shipping cost vs going local. But pretending I was in Boston, I wonder what the cost difference for a single home build would be. Is it a wash but you are gaining the ability to make field adjustments or are they cheaper because they are "off the shelf"? It would be nice if you could order them at big box stores. They certainly look like much better quality with their tongue and groove joints.

There is actually a dealer in NC, and they have a branch in Greenville, so you could probably get them there. I need 18" trusses and they only make up to 16" unfortunately so it won't work for me unfortunately

@@micahklesick5170 The website says Garris Evans Lumber in Shallotte NC is a dealer and they have a store in Greenville NC, not Greenville SC, which would be a lot closer. Is that who you are referring to? It is all an academic exercise for me right now anyway as my retirement home build plans won't begin to solidify until then. Are you building your own home in WNC?

      @@markstipulkoski1389 shoot good catch.
I'm actually waiting for a reply from Menards Truss builders, as they also do Trimmable trusses, as well as custom trusses.
Yea I'm just about to start building an ICF home in Brevard.

Same as my house I’m building right now; 16” TriForce 18’ long on 24” centers with 1-1/8” Advantech. I don’t have the strongbacks connected yet but it’s already plenty stiff.
To the other commenter, yes, 1-1/8” because we may do tile everywhere, not sure yet.
IMPORTANT: Steve’s comment at the start, the BOTTOM is marked and has to be followed. If you mount these upside down your inspector will have you re-doing the floor system.
TriForce were more expensive than standard I joists, but for a flat uninterrupted 8’ basement ceiling these actually saved me money compared to pouring a taller foundation and additional fill to make up the difference (so ductwork could run under the standard I joists). We’re building on bedrock and we’re limited in how far down we could dig.

How does this affect the sound when somebody’s walking on the upstairs floor with all the open area in the trusses?

In this case we used 1 1/8" subfloor so it deadens it substantially, but you can put some "safe n sound" insulation in the floor frame too

Why the 1.25" Advantech? Is your client putting in tile?

Probably natural stone like marble. Floor trusses can be designed for L/480 which is good for porcelain tile but the extra thick subfloor is probably for natural stone deflection requirements

Owner likes things well done.....3/4" good........1 1/8" better

Wouldn’t you want to use Zip over TriForce and then glue screw Advantek subfloor for continuity? 😊
