  • On today's video, we take Jay's Roush S550 and swap on a Gen3R!
    This car had already received a series of VMP modifications that included a TwinJet 67 mm throttle body, DW95lb injectors, a 79 mm ( now 3.0" ) pulley, a VMP Fuel Pump Voltage Booster, and custom VMP Calibration to dial the most out of it.
    After a baseline pull in that configuration, we swapped the head unit and stuck a 3.4" pulley on it for similar boost on 93 octane to see what just swapping to our Gen3R could do for Jay's ride.
    We netted a healthy gain of 70 rwhp without even changing to tune file!
    Be sure to stay tuned for another episode with this car where we push a little further!

    I still miss the two days you guys would do live shows

    So, the question is then, does displacement alone make up for the gain or are the discharge air temps just that much cooler being spun so much slower with a fat pulley? There is definitely more to this story that I wish they went into.

      Adiabatic efficiency...the blower does what you mentioned and takes less power to drive = more power to the wheels.

    Thank you this is what i wanted to see before i pulled trigger on gen3R since my blower right now is already maxed out on the 69mm pulley”roush blower”. Would be good time for a change and let it live on 75mm gen3r pulley. Now my question would be is the ported Gen3R good to live on the 75mm pulley or just settle for the normal gen3r? I am also running 1000cc injectors and dual pumps fore system. But goals are to live around 850 wheel range then later on maybe make more power. But for sure wanna live at 800-850 or close to it

    Nice gains!
    I have a Gen2r with the Ford twin 60TB and the JLT 125MM CAI you guys provided. Also VMP tuned. Love it.
    I have the 3.2 pulley. What do you think my gains would be with your 3.0 pulley?

      Appreciate your business and support! I assume we're talking about a Coyote Mustang. If so, that's approximately 2 psi of boost increase and we'll typically see 30-40whp as long as the car is on good 93 octane and is in good overall health otherwise.

      We did a video a while back there is about 20-30rwhp at higher boost levels and the gains grow as you spin it faster.

    Question… I have a 2.3L frpp supercharger kit on my 14’ 5.0, can the Gen3r head unit still bolt on to my application if I were to swap

      Yes! We have done this swap in house. Give us a call at the shop or drop us a line at sales@vmpperformance.com when you're ready and we'll get you all sorted out!

    No doubt that the VMP Gen 3R is a badass blower however, this car could have easily made 70+ more whp at less of a cost of a new head unit. That little 2.3 TVS is more than capable enough to put a window in that stock block 😁
    In saying that, if I stick with the TVS life a VMP Gen 3R will most definitely be required in my future 👍

    • @VMPPerformanceTV
      @VMPPerformanceTV  6 місяців тому

      Oh absolutely. But on 93 octane with similar moderate boost levels is specifically the illustration here. The next video on this car gets our return style fuel system and E85 :)
      Appreciate the support and consideration for your future modifications. Don't hesitate to reach out to discuss your future goals and how a Gen3R could make it happen!

    Curious about reason for only going to 7000rpm? Also is the 656 whp on the gen 2 with the 3.0 pulley(76mm) or the 3.125(79 mm)?

    • @VMPPerformanceTV
      @VMPPerformanceTV  6 місяців тому

      New 3.0" vmp pulley = 79 mm using the old gauge balls measurement method, confusing I know so thats why we use inches now :)

    Would swapping from vmp gen 2.3 to the vmp gen3r be worth the time and money on 2011 gt500

    • @VMPPerformanceTV
      @VMPPerformanceTV  7 місяців тому +1

      The Gen3R will pick up 40-50 pulley for pulley and 4 +/- PSI of boost while being more efficient and creating less heat. It would be a worthwhile upgrade in our opinion!

    Can we get a Gen2R to Gen3R swap comparison video?

    • @VMPPerformanceTV

      These videos come about when we have a car that's in the shop with the specific circumstances we're seeking. Definitely taking note to look for that particular set of circumstances.

      @@VMPPerformanceTV I appreciate the reply. I have a 2014 that's been running with a Gen2R (79mm pulley) for over 20k miles. I've been interested in swapping to a Gen3R, especially once I got built bottom end in the future. Fingers crossed you get a local car in that makes that swap so we can see the real world differences in power.

    • @VMPPerformanceTV
      @VMPPerformanceTV  6 місяців тому

      Appreciate you choosing VMP! On pump 93, you're likely making mid 600rwhp with the 79 mm (3.0") pulley. On a Gen3R with a 3.4 (88 mm) on the same fuel, you'll likely tickle 700 rwhp and be at the limit of the fuel on very similar boost, with much less heat because the blower isn't working any where near as hard to make it. It requires less blower speed/RPM for a similar amount of boost out of the Gen3R, plus the latest in our inlet and outlet designs that we incorporated into the Gen3R.
      The 2.3 L Roush as well as our VMP Gen2R units are all VERY capable units, but the TVS2650 rotor set is an absolute animal in regards to efficiency and was a logical next step in the progression of pursuing power for both street cars and race cars. We'll keep an eye out for an opportunity to feature this transition via video, but it is something we have heavily documented through our tuning and development journey so we'd happy chat with you in detail if you'd like to discuss it. Feel free to drop us an email, call us at the shop, or even DM us on Facebook or Instagram.
      ~ Happy Holidays!

      Probably keeping it intentionally fat on A/F for safety or just an in progress video which may not be final tune. Again fat is safe.

    • @VMPPerformanceTV
      @VMPPerformanceTV  6 місяців тому

      Yes, it's worth about 20-30rwhp with a 75 mm / 2.8 pulley and the gains only grown from there, peaking at 75 rwhp with a 20%/2.4 and another 75 rwhp with a stage 3 race ported gen3R (150 rwhp total over gen3). The R is also a much better design overall with improved clearances and a stronger nose drive.
