Love that you use natural based lubracants. I didn't know that you could do that on machines. Thanks for the tip!! My husband recently passed away 😢 so I am trying to learn how to do all the many tasks that he used to do. Tool maintenance was always his domain. 🤔 Thanks for your videos!

I use a spray like WD40 to clean and lube the blades regularly called "Protect it" which is made by Briggs and Stratton. It is great for hedge trimmers because is plant based (made from lanolin out of sheep wool) unlike WD40 which is chemical based. Since it doesnt have nasty stuff in it you can spray then hedge straight away and it wont burn or damage the leaves/ stems of the plant.

Very useful demo. A tool can go from terrific to a pain to use without proper maintenance.

How about a square head brush with brass / stainless bristles . And scrub from one end to the other , both sides .

Thanks for the video! Would you bother sharpening blades or just getting new ones?

    Hi Mate, great video!
    I have a question pls.
What is the best method of removing rust off a hedge trimmer similar to the one in the video? Unfortunately it gathered rust after my dad decided to wash it with water and left it. 🙄 Please can you help me restore it to normal? Thanks again 🙏🏼

Thank for watching mate, I’d try a wire wheel in a drill to remove the rust and give it a good lube up and with a Stihl cleaner and run the machine

Just a heads up-using canola oil is a terrible idea for machinery. Food oils will gum up after extended use on blades. I know this from being a chef and lubricating electric slicer bars to make motion easier, until it got so bad that I had a lecture from the guy we had to call to clean it....he also left us machine oil along with his advice.

  • @cc1942

Your operator's manual should recommend take off the battery before cleaning for safety...
