For me, the town returning to life four years later implies that Herberta's child with Issac didn't live. Since the kid was dead, that meant the deal with Strange Man had been completed.

I think it would have been better if Tumbleweed was the town that was cursed. In the final chapter, the entirety of New Austin feels really empty, while Tubleweed is already dying. In RDR1, Armadillo is full of life again, while Tumbleweed is pretty much abandoned. Makes more sense that Tumbleweed got hit with the plague, but never recovered.
I interpret it as everyone from Tumbleweed moving to Armadillo post-plague as it has a more convenient location and a railroad connection.
It would also add to the popular fan theory of RDR1 that Tumbleweed was haunted. Missed opportunity there

One flaw I can think of in the Grim Reamer theory is that you can't make a deal with Death, however, you can deal with the Devil.

You can make a deal with Death. Death has two faces, could either be God or Devil. It is up to everyone of us to choose which one we want to make a pact with. The deal with Herbert Moon was Happiness (God) or Multiple Generations (Devil). He chose Devil, he payed the price.

Funny, when J.M. walked up to H.M. and without batting an eye, blew his head off i was startled, but then thought, this should have been done to the rat bastard in the RDR1 However, watching H.M. get ripped apart by zombies in Undead Nightmare was quite satisfying. Good job on this one & as usual Strange Man.
People around Armadillo would have taken that town crier more seriously if he prefaced everything he said with "Hear ye! Hear ye!" like Homer Simpson did.

Hey! I've got a detail that i'm pretty sure almost no one knows about, it's on the mission "Horsemen, Apocalypse", chapter 4
On that mission, when you are in the house protecting the back window, you can actually change positions with John, Dutch, and Charles, and there is actual dialogue for it.
there is also a easter egg in one of the dead bodies on the common graves. If you sack him, you will get a letter when the man says that he is not the father of the baby with the mark in the face, wich is the timetraveler

@@sedohema Why did you tell me sorry twice? RDR2 keeps itself alive. Sure. But GTA 5 has Online. And plenty of YTbers making content about it. Red Dead Online is pretty much dead and this man is the only one feeding some quality content to the fans when it comes to YT. So yeah, he keeps it alive in a way.

It just gets me amazed on how much we've discovered in RDR2! Such an incredible game! I've been playing it for 180 Hours on my PS5 cause it's just that good! Subscribed to you man! You deserve it!

I could be mistaken but I thought I saw my health declining every minute I spent walking around Armadillo.
Your cores decline over time by themselves, it's just very very slow in the vanilla game, but there are mods that make this faster

The man burning bodies in the cemetery at Coot's Chapel is the same man who is laughing, at 13:13. His name is Eldin Grubb, He's the Undertaker of Armadillo and is also seen in RDR1.
No I don't they are the same person, the man at coots chapel is more pale. Although they both have a similar voice.

Something I did not understand is Moon's choice. Did he chose happiness or two generations?
Cause he already disapproved his daughters marriage, so in a way he could've asked the Strange Man not to bless them with a child, therefore choosing happiness (pure genes/his health/his store)
Or did he chose the two generations only to find out later his grandchild would have been of mixed race, leaving him in a cursed town?
He was given happiness or generations.
He chose generations.
One of those generations married a Jewish person, something that greatly enraged the bigoted Moon.
Moon took great pride in his store and his status in town. As punishment for letting his bigotry get the best of him, the Strange Man contaminated the town, keeping Moon healthy only so he could see the suffrage.
The Strange Man basically took away everything that made Moon happy because Moon was unsatisfied with one small thing. Just goes to show everyone, fortunate or not, should be grateful for what they do have instead of fretting over what they don't.
@@yaboidre5672 I disagree. I think his bigotry is part of his choice. Think about it: he chose generations which meant that he had to give up happiness. Most people would be happy to have a grandchild, but Herbert was unhappy about it because the grandchild was Jewish. In other words, that the grandchild was Jewish was part of the bargain: he had to have a grandchild that would make him unhappy.

Absolutely tuned to this side story😂.. ive beat the game a couple weeks ago and managed to go thru armadillo.. i seen the mess the place was in. The bodies, the sick ppl walkin about awaitimg there fate. The devs they do such a great job in creating this side atmosphere from the main game.. so many things to really immerse yourselves i to if you do enough investigating.

I wish we could find out the cause. I know the cause of cholera has to do with unclean water and poor hygiene but what was the source? A river, a lake, or a bad well.
Could be a well contaminated with human waste, that was a common cause. London had cholera outbreaks, particularly around pumps that drew water from the Thames.
Well these are all actually real diseases...
So living out in the middle of nowhere being dirty obviously creates these diseases.
Cholera is an acute diarrheal illness caused by infection of the intestine with Vibrio cholerae bacteria. People can get sick when they swallow food or water contaminated with cholera bacteria. The infection is often mild or without symptoms, but can sometimes be severe and life-threatening.

I actually think the "His final toll will herald my greatest coming" refers to Micah's death. We dont see the Strange Man manifesting at all in RDR2, but when Micah Bell dies (the final toll of the bell, Bell now having to pay the toll to cross over, there’s plenty of ways to play with words with that), it's what finally brings the Pinkertons to John Marston's door, launching the first game and the actual Strange Man missions along with it. Maybe if John had done what Arthur asked and not looked back, left the past in the past and not tried to be two people at once, he could have stayed hidden. But he didn't. He went after Micah, and as satisfying for the player (and John) as that might have been, in doing so he brought the personification of death to his door.

In a way, his punishment is not over by the events of RDR1. He's constantly robbed and depends on you, another incidental agent of the Strange Man, to get his money back. Whether you get it back or not changes nothing for him either, because it'll happen again and again. Even by 1914 after John is gone.
How did john not recognize the portrait on the wall? He couldve just said that he saw a similar portriat in the swamps that wouldve been rly eerie
He did though. 22:08 he says it is familiar in a weird way and is a bit hesitant to continue talking about it. I guess he didn't want to sound crazy by specifically saying he saw it in the swamps

Another comment I wanna make here, about what the camper said at 22:29, he actually lost his own bet as we all know Armadillo recovered during RDR1 as Moon's deal was complete, while Tumbleweed became a ghost town as the railroad that bypassed the town in favor of Armadillo is what drove Tumbleweed to its collapse.
Obviously that was a foreshadow we all saw comin' because of RDR1, but I like that small detail of someone betting the other way around in the prequel.
Him being the grim reaper would make sense if he didn’t give choices in morality. The Grim Reaper doesn’t make deals or care how you get to meet him. He talks about being an accountant, referring to researching info to make decisions (deals, who lives or dies, etc) not actual numbers. Also a cheeky wink at “the devil’s arithmetic”. The grim reaper takes the already dying. The devil takes you while you’re on your feet (serial killer).
I would like if rockstar made new austin normal and populated but this is very interesting!

I don’t know if this is true or not but someone once told me that there was a legend in the Old West that Death was a man in a well-cut suit and that’s what I’ve always thought The Strange Man was.

I hate the fact that rockstar made so many dead towns. I understand why they did it, but it's really a shame. One of my favorite aspects of the game is exploring a thriving town, but you really only have valentine, strawberry, rhodes, and saint denis. Tumbleweed doesnt have much going on, even though it looks like it should, and the rest are either dead or dying. Colter would have been a good spot to actually have functioning, and limpany looked like a really cool spot before it burned. so much potential wasted.
I completely agree and I also think that there should have been a couple trapper camps and small communities in the Grizzlies as well.
@@AliAlnamir yea, an actual thriving trapper camp where individualist entrepreneurs camp together sort of like a safety in numbers thing would have been great. they could have done that near any one of the river locations, up near cottail pond or the east side of calumet ravine would have been great locations. It would have been great for online mode, because I love hunting in ambarino, but you have to haul a long ways to sell your goods or drop it at camp. and thats a heavy risk because you could get disconnected and lose it all.

So by leaving the area its the only way to avoid the curse thus so many residents leaving.
The ones that thought being careful and quarantine properly would end up cursed anyway because they stayed
Also the fact that death is out and about in the world is interesting. Then again we see a ghost woman and a sentient robot with the mind of a child
I love how Strange Man's deal also explains why Moon doesn't die from that clearly-fatal shot in the head. Strange Man's word is binding: he said Herbert would have to live with his choices, even after some schmuck walks through the door and shoots him in the face.
