From what I remember back in the day..(former 11B..joined in 1992) most of the guys were running their surefire lights clamped on the bbl..
I had the M16A2..no high-speed slings, no cool guy levers or anything.
The first "tactical sling" I ever had was a standard sling with 550 cord attached to the looped ends and then that was attachedto the stock and front was looped to the front sight post..and back then..that was considered BAD ASS!
Today I am an instructor..I teach LEO and military and am amazed at how far gear has come...especially in the last dozen years..but, the GWOT has made it a necessity to grow and adapt...but that's what the infantry does...improvise, adapt, and overcome

Back when I started Airsoft in college, I built a replica of the movie version of the M733 the Delta Sniper Gordan used. A the time Toyko Marui made them and all I did was add a suppressor that was close enough, a rail on the handguard to attach the anachronistic Aimpoint and taped up all my mags
Then I used it when I participated in the Operation Irene event and got to meet Colonel McKnight
Since I wanted to keep it authentic and keep the suppressor on, I found it advantageous to have a longer barrel. So I modded mine with a longer inner barrel and had the suppressor hide it

Looks like a Colt Model 653 (M16A1 Carbine) with an XM4/Model 720 style barrel. This barrel would later be available on the Model 723s starting in 1987. The Model 727 would also have this barrel as a standard feature. The 723/727 rifles were the forerunners to the M4/M4A1 rifles currently in use.

Great job. Someone who was involved. Your mags look good but are wrong. The 550 is stripped or the guts are taken out. Then the cord is tied into a loop, square knot with two half hitches. You slide the bottom plate halfway off the mag and the knot goes under it. Slide back the plate. And then using 100 mph tape, make three turns keeping it neat. The loops should be only big enough to slide three fingers through. The loops are there to help quick draw mag changes and you can hook them through a snap link on you belt so as you don’t loose them. Now days we have drop pouches. But this is old school Ranger Regt SOP.

That was very high speed gear back in the 80s and 90s. I built an M16A1 Carbine some years back with a 16 inch pencil barrel. They were used a lot by Special Forces and Navy SEALs in the 80s. I did see a few of those on photos used by Ranger Regiment with their battalion scouts or weapons squad leaders in the platoons. These carbines came from the Vietnam Era CAR-15s which SF SOG units used to include SEALs, LRRPs, and infantry dog handlers. I love the way it looks and how it handles.

I was in Lackland Texas in Bootcamp when this was playing out on TV....when we saw Shughart&Gordon on TV being dragged in the streets, trainies scrabbled to try to get Special Operation jobs CCT PJ SF to get in the game, people don't know due to its nature(I only learned through a Navy Crypto tech as I was ISR)why did we go from being loved by the civilians not involved to the point the whole city came out to fight...a few days prior a source we had that was Somilain who was giving us good Intel up until that day gave us a false target for the meeting of General Muhammad Farid Aidids Lieutenants, it turned out to be an orphanage, filled with women and children, he did it on purpose. And we sent helicopter gunships and Hell fired the building to the ground, and it worked,And and at the same time because we are stupid his sons who was in the US Marines and served not only in Desert Storm, he was in Mogadishu from 5 December 1992 until 4 May 1993 during Operation Restore Hope,(UNITAF) as a translator and a US Marine. When General Muhammad Farid Aidid was killed by, the guy we shot his range Rover in the Movie and took into custody..his weapons man,Osman Ali Atto.who also founded his own oil company and reportedly acquired a stake in Bluebird Aviation during the early 1990s in order to import khat from his close relatives who were based in Kenya,but,... I can't help thinking 100% he and his men who sold drugs/guns were backed by the CIA. Anyways Hussein Mohamed Farrah Aidids, General Muhammad Farid Aidid son, would leave the US Marines and go back to Mogadishu within weeks of his discharge and became the President of Somalia on June 15, 1995, which didn't last very long, his death on August 2, 1996, after being shot in a battle by foreign specialist David Nicholas. That's why I get so mad when I hear Ilhan Omar trash the US,..so was one of the rare lucky ones, she was there during the hight of the genocide and rapes and we saved her life...one more odd fact..that morning the doors for there HUMVEE'S just came in and were installed...which all though there weren't bulletproof they save a dozen lives..when you make a wa movie you can go out and buy black hawks and little birds MH 6, to make movies like this and Top Gun or ny war movie you have to through the Pentagon CIA Hollywood liason office, and I gives them power over the script and im sure that had the part about the gunships removed, the CIA send to many star stuck Advisors to the movie sets and they give away from what ive notice 100s of classified protocol and craft, As we speak the Advisors from Zero Dark Thirty have an open investigation over leaks, classified information, and craft given away in the movie. During the White House movies ..London has fallen I think theres 3..i heard 4 different top-secret protocols used, all in code and Presidential protocols during war or an attack on the US, I found out what it was by listening to the 911 Audiotapes of the scrambled F 16s pilots,as im reading an article now called: Was the Langley Jets’ Emergency Response Sabotaged?
The F-16s That Failed to Protect Washington on 9/11,
even though the Pentagon and all the air traffic controllers and high brass knew the treath was in DC,the Langley fighters were about 150 miles from there-further away from the Pentagon than they had been when they took of,they sat far back in the Atlantic Ocean, and when they heard COMMs traffic saying the treat was in DC,and you can look this up,the one pilot says"why the F did BIG GAINT send us all the way out here..GAINT KILLER is a classified protocol, or was, it who was in charge of everything, which should have been the President from a Bunker, or the Secretary of Defence...GAINT KILLER on 911 was Dick Cheney?no US General or the president..this isnt how the protocol works, and I used to think Donald Rumsfeld was in on it too, but he came on TV live with a press conference 9/10 the day before and said"We are missing 2.3 trillion dollars "and hinted they were at war with the Pentagon, even saying"its a matter of life or death"?the video is out there...none of this cant be found, this article i'm reading even says "However, evidence shows that the question of why the jets went so drastically off course requires further investigation. For example, a Navy facility was responsible for handling the F-16s while they were out over the ocean. The Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is the Navy air traffic control agency that handles all over-water military operations. It is known by the call sign “Giant Killer.” [25] When Nasypany asked Major James Fox-the leader of the NEADS weapons team-why the Langley jets had flown out over the ocean, Fox replied, “Giant Killer sent them out there.” [26] Certainly, what little has been reported about the actions of this facility appears quite bizarre and suspicious." and Another controller at Giant Killer showed similar indifference a couple of minutes later, when Huckabone again contacted the facility. Kevin Nasypany had just ordered that the Langley F-16s be sent toward the White House, and declared “AFIO” (Authorization for Interceptor Operations) for Washington airspace, which would give the military authority over the FAA for that airspace. Huckabone told the Navy controller: “Ma’am, we are going AFIO right now with [the Langley fighters]. They are going direct [to] Washington.” The declaration of AFIO was an unusual and unique event. When Dean Eckmann, the lead Langley pilot, was finally notified of it, he was startled, because, according to Spencer: “He has never, in all his years of flying, received such an order. He’s only heard about it and, to him, it means no less than the start of World War III.” Yet, in response to Huckabone’s information, the controller at Giant Killer appears to have shown no signs of emotion, and offered only modest reassurance that the Langley fighters would be given the necessary clearance. She said, “We’re handing ’em off to [the FAA’s Washington] Center right now.” Apparently unsettled by the controller’s lack of urgency, Huckabone instructed her: “Ma’am, we need that expedited right now! We need to contact them on 234.6. … Do you understand? ”the worse part is the 2 places they were investigating the missing money was the Accounting offices at the pentagon almost cut with a saw the only damaged that area, with what every hit it, and an office in buildings 7...finnaly top brass got in touch with e the F 16s and said "go supersonic and break every window on your way if you have to"but it was too late..it was Sabotaged.

I was there. As a "white sleeve" or a "black boot" US Marines. Landing in an arid desert climate with woodland camouflage on. Camoufage for a GREEN FOREST. Stuck out like a sore thumb.
Besides that, I tend to call it the great tragic comedy.
From my hide and from the seal team across the street position, we had Aidid in our sights 500+ times. When the Army took control from the Marine Corps, it turned into a fricken dog and pony show.
18 Dboys lost their lives for what? Some shitty country in Africa with starving people. Who ever planned Operation Gothic Serpent, screwed up big time. You don't send 160 guys into a place populated with thousands, in the middle of the day. And the sad news. No one ever got him.

Don't forget RBAs were uni-facial in '93 with a single issued frontal SAPI plate. It was still better than getting a frag proofed-only PASGT. It was only by late '94-early'95 did our RBAs become bi-facial plated and, starting in '96 for PASGT with the ISAPO vest upgrade, which was a stop-gap for the OTV(Interceptor). The M4 was in issuance by '94. The XM4 was in limited testing in Regiments between '90-'93; but I only personally saw AFO and Gray Falcon guys with them. Mog changed a lot more than people actually care to think about.

They actually lost 5 Blackhawks. I remember the pilot of super 65 said in the movie it show they only had 2 Blackhawk down. But it was actually 5. Super 61, Super 64, Super 62, Super 68 and I forgot the other one. They lost 2 birds that couldn’t be recover. If remember right Super 62 took a RPG blast on the bottom right of the bird they managed to land far away and safe and the Crewmen gunner that was on the right side was injury and the Pilot from the right too. Super 68 took a RPG blast to the tail and they barely made it back to the FOB no one was hurt, they got out of their damage bird and took another Blackhawk back into battle. And don’t remember the call sign of that other bird but it was also hit by RPG and land it at the docks.

    • @aleccross3535

Because some were hit prior to the events of the movie?

That's why Ridley isnt a great director imo. A lot of historical events were nullified when they easily could have kept it accurate.

I checked there was one other that been hit and it was way before the battle even took place.

buddy, i just bought the desert camo outfit but it dangles on being a bit to big and being abnormaly large for my fit.
Is it normal that it all feels wide and baggy and saggy?
Feels like i can fit 2 people in it but then again, can understand it needs to be a bit wide as it is used in Arid and dry/warm environments.

Hello sir! I love how cool is that 12:15 picture showing a reenactor wearing David Clark headset with the rest of Delta loadout. Can you please tell me what DC headset is? I'm not very sure if it's a single or dual headphones model. Thank you in advance!
