Brian's brother 'Carl Wilson' is the lead singer on Good Vibrations. Brian & Mike Love are co-writers, and Brian arranged & produced the song. There is another YT video of footage of Brian's work in the studio making Good Vibrations which I recommend you check out.
In the 80s, a rap trio called The Fat Boys patnered with The Beach Boys for a song called "Wipe Out". They used the Surfaris signature guitar riff. It was a hit on radio and Mtv.
I was able enjoy seeing the Beach Boys when they performed for us boy scouts during the 75th anniversary Boy Scout Jamboree back in 1985. I was 14 then and it was the first time I got to see a band live.
The Beach Boys are known for their harmonies. Good harmonies are a real treat whenever they appear. Other groups known for their harmonies that come to mind are (not a comprehensive list) The Bee Gees, Three Dog Night, The Eagles, and The Carpenters; you could throw The Beatles in there too, I think ("This Boy" and "I'll Be Back" are good examples). You have a nice, easy to listen to voice; very pleasant, no histrionics or shtick. I appreciate that. And thanks for your breakdown of the song; some of what you brought up I hadn't thought about before. Hopeful for more of that, I subscribed.
I was in my teens when this song came out, regular radio airplay. Just a really unusual, beautiful, but relatable record like so many that came out around that time. Lots and lots of great songs out, right then. Nobody really analyzed it as being a great, beautifully produced song, or analyzed it musically.
Not much of a Beach Boys fan myself, but IMO this is their best song by far. It was a major American contribution in the development of progressive rock. (Love the Jordan clip inclusion...literally made me LOL. And of course, Love's Melody).
Thank you Lijie, your reaction gave me great excitations! Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys had many great and fun songs but this one is their best imo. Two more really good ones are "God Only Knows" and "Wouldn't It Be Nice"! If you want to try your hand reacting to a very creative and talented band I would like to suggest Walk Off The Earth. Their breakout hit was their cover of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know", and it is unlike anything you have ever seen before. Best of luck with your channel and congrats on your pending 10K subs!!
@@Lijie 10K Subs! That is fantastic, but only the beginning!! Please consider adding the Walk Off The Earth song as well. No hurry or anything, but one day when you have nothing else to react to, you will be astonished at what you see! Best wishes to you on your channel!!
There is a great 2015 documentary called "The Wrecking Crew" about the largely unknown group of California studio musicians who played on many, many hit songs, commercials, TV shows, etc. Here is a clip from the movie talking about the making of "Good Vibrations": ua-cam.com/video/9UqNvMOdhGU/v-deo.htmlsi=I1PwcWcQ0p7om4CF (I highly recommend the movie if you are interested in pop music history, the music industry and the life of professional studio musicians. Here is a trailer: ua-cam.com/video/SX5BCgmr7tg/v-deo.htmlsi=jj7dxsZnnFNLqSF_ )
Double post. Forgot about Crosby, Stills, and Nash; they are another group noted for harmonies. Neil Young was with the group at one point. I have their LP “Deja Vu” and would point to the track “Carry On” as an example.
I was in high school when this song came out. All we had back then were AM radios so we didnt have anything close to the fidelity of today. Stereo was also brand new technology, ibremenbrr my first LP's were available un Mono or Stereo. We also didn't have videos. Many if not most of the videos of the songs from that period were produced must later. Its important to just concentrate on what you're hearing not watching. Back then it was always about the music, the sound thats what sucked us all in. I enjoyed your reaction though, great song and the Beach Boys released some great music..m
Shhh... here's a big Secret... the Beach Boys didn't play their instruments on this recording ... what you hear is their singing but the Wrecking Crew are the ones playing.. Let me recommend an interesting documentary.... it is called the Wrecking Crew and it is all about the music of the 60s.... I think you'll enjoy it.
Brian did play some of the instruments. For instance, that harpsichord sound during the middle bridge is him plucking piano strings with something metal, I think I remember reading it was a bobby pin.
Lijie, I can see you coming down that firemans pole upside down. 😏 Seriously though, this is a feelgood gem perfect to listen to on a gloomy day, or equally good cruising in the car on a hot day.
Hi Lijie! Just discovered your channel and love what I've seen! There's so many songs I'd like to see you react to, but I'll just suggest a couple you might consider - Scenes From An Italian Restaurant by Billy Joel, Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty and Voodoo Child covered by Stevie Ray Vaughan. The original album versions would be my picks but there are some great live videos as well. Keep the great videos coming!! 😎👍
Love your channel, now a sub :) Great review for an iconic American band. Would love for you to do a reaction/review of a Japanese singer/songwriter, Utada Hikaru and her live version of Travelling from her Wildlife Tour at Yokohama Arena :)
The video accompanying this is nothing that The Beach Boys sanctioned. It's just some fan-made thing that was cobbled together from old home movies, and has nothing to do with the music. Great music like this is meant to be heard and not seen.
Wope Out was done by another band not the Beach Boys...easily mistaken as there were many similar bands..... Just for a laugh xheck out the opening to Top Secret... Skeet Surfing, this is a reworked Beach Boys song but as a spoof for a movie.. its pretty funny.
Forget the silly video, which has nothing to do with the song. Just focus on how great the music is--the vocal harmonies, instrumentation, and arrangement.
One of Brian's greatest songs. "Wipe Out" is an instrumental by the Surfaris. No connection to The Beach Boys except all the surf bands back then played the song. Beach Boys were mainly a vocal group and never performed "Wipe Out."
Lijie pkease add to your list.... Aldious I Wish For You... my favorite band of all time... they have no bad songs...but this song is very much this type of song.
One should ask why the Beatles got so much love but Elvis was forced into the military and Beach Boys got nothing but hate. Why were foreign artists with questionable messages got promoted over our own?
I have no idea who put up this video as I have never seen this before. There are certainly lots more videos of "Good Vibrations" out there minus this "silly" interpretation.

Wipe Out is actually the Surfaris I believe.
Correct. The Surfaires did the original and the Ventures did a cover version.
In the 80s, a rap trio called The Fat Boys patnered with The Beach Boys for a song called "Wipe Out". They used the Surfaris signature guitar riff. It was a hit on radio and Mtv.
Composition and production are ALL Brian Wilson. Incredible.
Beatles used the Beach Boys harmonizing style in several of their songs .. Back in The USSR is a great one to listen to

The transitions in this piece are phenomenal. This is part of Brian Wilson's genius of songwriting.

Hi there thank you for requesting more Beach Boys!! The two songs have been added to the list! And we hit 10K SUBS, that gave me the EXCITATIONS!!! ❤

Lijie your music reactions and your personal music gives me excitation.
My two personal Beach Boy songs are Do It Again and Get You Back.
Loved your thoughtful reaction to this Beach Boys classic.
It's a great song, that's for sure. "I Can Hear Music" is one you'd probably like a lot too, Lijie.

The two sounds you wanted to know....1. Not a recorder but a Harmonica 2.Not a Cello but a Theremin
The video accompanying this is nothing that The Beach Boys sanctioned. It's just some fan-made thing that was cobbled together from old home movies, and has nothing to do with the music. Great music like this is meant to be heard and not seen.
"Great music like this is meant to be heard and not seen"! AMEN.
The Beatles (or Paul Mcartney) looked at the Beach Boys with as much admiration as American Beatles fans l looked at the Beatles.
The Beach Boys’ “Pet Sounds” album inspired the Beatles to produce a concept album of their own: “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”
Wope Out was done by another band not the Beach Boys...easily mistaken as there were many similar bands.....

AOA (Ace of Angels) Still Falls Tb Rain. ... also written in this style.
One word. Theramin
AHHHH not a cello but a theramin! @XDarkSyntaXOriginal
@@Lijie: The song DOES have and features cello, theremin and harmonica.
Please check out Billy Idol Dancing with Myself.
They were friends with the Beatles. Contemperaries
Of course they were...i love the image of the Beach Boys and the Beatles, jammin out together!! ❤
The part that starts at 1:38 and again at 3:22... in my opinion, it's strongly influenced by Gregorian chant.

Wipe Out The Surfaris not the Beach Boys
The sound is good but the video doesn't match the tune or the lyrics.
