I have to get back on here and show you some appreciation! I Just changed mine out today. If it wasn't for your video and your informative directions, I would not have had the confidence I did when replacing the shaft. And you're right, That's the way she likes it!" Went in real smooth. Super easy! Thanks again!
I am throwing new lower control arms, pan hard bar, Rear axle (With disc brakes and posi) Rear and front sway bars, k member, a arms, wonder bar, strut brace, springs and struts right now... it's been a nightmare, you make it look easy. And now because of you Maybe a new steering shaft...
Awesome videos! I watch all your vids for my Third gen. You've helped me soo much! Question for you, If I was to buy the regular stock, Would I still have to use my drill and notch anything down? Or, was that because you bought that custom piece?
Omar Martinez thank u for watching my vids..if its a regular stock reolacement there is no notching..this shaft was not originally for this car thats why u have to make it fit
Just completed this swap out. Would have never done it without your video! Question though. My steering wheel sits a little to the right to drive straight now. The shaft only fits one way. You can't rotate it. Any ideas why?
I believe that's the steering shaft off of an S10 pickup truck the only thing is the knuckle by the firewall has to be clocked a hundred eighty degrees and welded back.
Steve Rob hey man thanks..i havent driven it yet lol my dizzy is out to msd cause of some manufacturer issues..bunch of people in my club installed it..they like it so far..thanks again for watching
Steve Rob I haven't had any complaints of vibrations with the new shafts. I have a pretty rowdy setup in my car so i didn't notice anything. I do run across some that have a nice little rubber damper from time to time though, and are great for those daily driver types. most of the guys that have this type (non damper) really appreciate the clean looks of the new shaft, not to mention the additional feeling of "attachment" to the steering.
If you want to source your own parts, the Astro shaft needs one of the ends rotated 90 degrees. However, the steering shaft out of one of the box looking Jeep Cherokees 84-94, not Grand Cherokee, bolts right in (after you notch the steering shaft). Install is exactly like the video. I run a Cherokee shaft in my Firebird. While the steering shaft is out go ahead and replace the steering shaft bushing at the end of the steering colum with one out of a 90s Astro Van (actual bearing instead of a plastic bushing).
***** Good tip on the bearing. I have videos detailing the different shafts (Astro/Jeep), as well as what you need to do with the Jeep shaft to make it work. Its not as easy as plopping it in, because they dont freely compress. Also I have a video detailing the bearing upgrade which I highly recommend as well! Nice video klowny!
I was wondering if you could help me. The temp sending unit cable got tangled on my steering shaft and ripped off. I don't know where it goes, I got a 86 z28.
klowny. there is another video of a guy doing the same mod. but he grinds out the peen, re-clocks the u-joint, and welds it back. Is that process necessary?
+SilentOneCorajuda13 Hi..not necessary to do that if you buy this particular one i stated in my video..its already clocked and welded...Thank you for watching
+klowny1969 aahhhh ok. Cool. if I do the mod, I'll contact you. My stock column is still good. But thanks. I like the part "One in the back, one on top." That's how she likes it." lol
I replaced my centerlink, idler , and tie rods and now my wheels feel like they rub when there not touching. Feels like it’s bucking on full lock even after alignment.

What are the benefits doing this upgrade I have a chance to purchase one and I want to know if it's worth it
prevents the slop that happens with rag joints
I believe that's the steering shaft off of an S10 pickup truck the only thing is the knuckle by the firewall has to be clocked a hundred eighty degrees and welded back.
Nice- the rag joint absorbed vibration have you noticed any difference ?

I performed this mod on my '87 Monte SS last summer.
Nice! I want an 87 monte ss! I love those cars!!
Manny my shaft is stuck on the second joint and it won’t come loose should I use heat
You serious?
@@klowny1969 I had to heat and beat it what a Mission
Good to know, thanks for the video! Do you have considerably less play in the steering with that?
It feels more solid
I was wondering if you could help me. The temp sending unit cable got tangled on my steering shaft and ripped off. I don't know where it goes, I got a 86 z28.
Check on the head by where the headers bolt up
I found the wire it goes to by the steering wheel. I ended up running the wire through the firewall and connecting it there. Thanks a lot!
Juan Rodriguez awesome!
i need a before and after vid on what difference this makes
