- Manon has been training hard for her biggest ever challenge: taking on the SBT GRVL race in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. The race is at altitude and, at 142 miles (224km) in length, with 9,200 feet (2800m) of climbing, it will be Manon’s longest ever ride. This challenge will be far from easy! Will Manon be able to survive this epic US gravel race?

What would you like to see Manon do next?
Downhill mtb
TCR…
RAAM :)
can i have a manon plushie?
and an ollie one... but ollie has the plush removed, to be more aero....
Thank you for the love everyone!
Love you manon
🇵🇭 enjoy and ride safe
thats why i started biking again because of you and all your videos GCN❤😊❤
Amazing effort Manon, I had a tear in my eye at the end when you said "I did it", it took me back to that feeling you get at the end of a long event when you are so tired and relieved, yet so proud you can barely hold it together. Be proud Manon you deserve it :)
Nice tkol profile picture
@@saheel1850 Thanks :)
I done a 100mlr sportive stupidly and 6ml from house after it i went into a garage and wanted a drink and the cashier was having a domestic on the phone and i thought 'fk ya domestic luv' i need a drink otherwise you'll be calling am ambulance lol
Yeah, I love Manon and seeing her struggle on this was an emotional roller coaster for me too, but when she made it to the end and said “I did it”, I was so happy and proud of her! Anything that long at that altitude is no joke, gravel or not. There’s a reason so many pros live in and around the Rockies - it’s great for training and getting to your best, and there aren’t many places in the UK to do that to the same level. This was quite a feat!
Thanks Kev :)
Manon is my favorite from GCN and seeing her really frustrated and cursing was priceless, lol. Great video !
She was talking shit when she was down and out! Love it!!
Thanks Yousef!
Haha you go through all the emotions on an event like this. No hiding
Manon! Manon! Manon! You are incredible beyond words! Loved volunteering at this event and being able to cheer you on at the aid station and hand you your finisher's hat at the finish line. Wear it with pride! Even after that 142 mile sufferfest, you were so gracious and greeted everyone with that million watt smile. Thanks for sharing your SBT GRVL experience, especially those moments when the doubts start to creep in and you found a way to keep pedaling -- it really does inspire all of us mere mortals to get out there and attempt the things that appear impossible. Congratulations again and hope to welcome you to FNLD GRVL next summer and/or back to beautiful Steamboat Springs again next August. Chapeau!
Aww thank you for the kind words Jeannie, it was lovely to meet you. x
@@manonrides Well this just made my entire week! Such a joy meeting you and your brother's text message cracked me up :) Congrats again
I fought cramps for almost 60 miles before I had to back out at mile 116 of 150 at Gravel Worlds yesterday in Lincoln Nebraska. I'm up at 4am local watching this thanks to not sleeping well after the effort. Amazing timing for the video.
do they groom these roads for the race? maybe put down finer-grade gravel? the guys in the top 10 are doing 22 mph which seems impossible based on the gravel roads I've experienced here in upstate New York. scrubbing through the footage it does look a lot better than I'm used to mostly dirt road and not so much gravel, and the ones that were actually gravel look pretty compressed and not so many large loose stones that you can't get any traction on. it's hard to judge how representative the footage is considering they probably wouldn't be able to use any footage on the type of gravel roads I'm used to. you wouldn't be able to hear Manon talk for the sound of the stones under the tires hitting the frame of the UTV they're filming from
Pickle juice works amazing for cramps, I swear by it! I always pack three bottles for long rides and they've never let me down.
Well done Manon! I actually took part in the same race last weekend and finished it! Really challenging course but fun! Can’t wait to go back next year!
@@better.better they don't groom the roads. There are tracks that the cars generally use that get fairly clear of gravel, sometimes all the way to hard base. There are still thick sections, but most can generally be avoided except when changing your line or turning a corner.
@@455LT1 Is it salted pickle juice, or vinegar? I’m guessing salted if it’s being used in sports.
I've been a Manon fan since her first appearance, mostly due to her authenticity, honesty, willingness to try anything and good humor. I'm now an even bigger fan if that's possible. Wonderful performance. Oh, and please can I maintain my form on a bike the same as she does when exhausted :-)
Triple thumbs up for the production quality. Quadruple thumbs up for Manon's mega effort.
Thanks - we're really proud of this one (and of Manon too!)
I have been watching Manon on her GCN journey and this moment I felt so proud she completed this. A true hero and inspirational individual. Well done Manon. Only greater things are in store.
As a former racer, with a preference for crits... I can't even imagine doing anything like this. Way to go Manon!!!
Stamina is being built with aging, slow down, do long, and go for it.
The pride in that "I did it" at the end. ❤ Chapeau, Manon!
I love Manon's lack of confidence mixed with her exceptional riding ability. The production value (video & audio) is tremendous!
This was absolutely AWESOME
This ranks right up there with Ollie's Everesting, Hank's unbelievable challenges (Mark Beaumont gets him in so much trouble) Matt and Simon's Taiwan KOM, Simons Gravel races and Morocco ride, Tom Last Mallorca climb and Mür Dl Giat, and Dan's second place finish in the 2014 Commuter Challenge..
This is the upper tier of GCN.
And that's why I watch these guys.
Congratulations Manon! Very impressive!
Ollie's Everest was so great, esp the way Emma supported him.
Dan who? ;)
Thanks!
Pickles are about the sodium which you need especially when sweating hard. Congratulations Manon! 👏
Easily one of the best and most inspiring videos I've ever watched! A few comments:
1. Manon, you are an awesome rider, AND, you have an amazing ability to put your human side into these videos. That's great for the rest of us humans!
2. Did you think your bike wasn't going to get dusty / muddy / filthy?
3. Pink valve stems and flashy fingernails (13:28)! Nice! Gloves for a gravel race might not have been a bad idea.
4. Your description of grasshoppers as "little birds" was hilarious; your focus on pickles was disturbing
5. Your description of hitting the wall was spot on, and was weirdly reassuring to the rest of us. You're right! When you're tired, every bump makes you angry!
6. Only a Brit would welcome a rainshower
Congratulations on finishing a huge event, and on making a great video for the rest of us!
Pickles are nothing short of miracles at that point in a race.
Yes gloves. Gloves yes.
I don't know, I'm American, and I never mind rain when I'm riding. It's certainly better than choking dust and blazing heat.
@@colinmcdonald2499 Gel Track mitts I would have thought essential
to isolate u a little from all those bumps in the road
@@budbud2509 yes indeed! I use Mavic gloves with gel reinforcement. Also... It's gravel. You get shreadded much less if you wipe out with gloves on. It might be the difference between needing to quit and. Keeping riding.
I need to replace my gloves... Any makes models you reccomend?
the madness of cycling, Manon puts in monster effort pushed to the brink and ends with, "id like to do it again" we've all been there
That "I did it!!!" was so beautiful.
You're a beast, Manon. Fantastic video of a monster performance. Great job.
We were all very proud!
Well done Manon! What an achievement! Massive effort. Congratulations on completing the race👏💪
Every emotion and every pain you went through is exactly how I felt running and completing my first marathon (Marine Corps Marathon) in 2011. After I crossed the finish line, made it back to where my coach and team was, and when my wife arrived, I cried. I cried because I hurt, I cried because it was over, I cried because I had just realized what I accomplished. Chapeau, Manon. You should be proud of what you have done. I am proud of your amazing journey.
An amazing ride by a VERY determined lady! Let’s have more Manon challenges and videos; a great change from just the men doing them!!!
Thanks Pete, she's having a well earned rest but we're already planning what brutal challenge to do next!
The end....when she turns off that ride on the wahoo....it surely brought tears of joy..accomplishment and I don't know what to my eyes. Wow! CONGRATULATIONS! on pushing yourself.
Awesome effort Manon, I can’t even imagine riding that distance AND elevation on gravel, let alone without padded gloves. Love how Manon was adjusting to the dust, “Look at the state of my bike!”.
Bloody fantastic Manon. Hats off not only for finishing but for having the nerve to take on a challenge like this. Definitely way outside your comfort zone and you fought through to the end. Well done!
You're my hero, Manon.
Well done, Manon! I have been on the fence about which distance I'll ride in an event four weeks from now. "I did it" just made up my mind that it will be the longest one.
Not much to say other than what an incredible and inspiring achievement. Nicely done!
Thanks Mike
@@manonrides you're welcome :)
Thank you, Manon! You are an inspiration to all of us lady cyclists out here. I've been mountain biking for the past few years after being a casual cyclist for most of my life and have done some shorter gravel rides on my XC hardtail as well. I even completed the C&O Canal Trail doing about 50 miles a day. Now I have a friend helping me build a gravel bike, and I can't wait to try doing longer rides and more rigorous adventures. Keep up the good work!
Manon you didn't mention anything about crashing and hitting your head, but at the end when you said you'd like to do it again, I figured they just cut that part out of the video. Seriously, congrats on an epic ride! You're a true inspiration!
I love Manon’s determination! That’s a big step up from England to over 6,000 feet in the Rocky Mountains. That oxygen gets thin really quick.
Simply remarkable feat Manon! And you were right on your predicted time with good pace! At 15.6 mph for that length, yeah well done! Having hit that wall too I know the pain you were going through and salute the resolve. I kept thinking, "this is why she was European champion... she doesn't quit!"
OMG Manon!! Thanks for keeping it real, having the courage to take it on,see it through to completion andshare the pain & vulnerability with us!! You are one of my inspirations!! What I would like to see is whatever YOU choose to do next that is life-affirming for YOU!! Rest well and fully recover. Thanks for sharing these intimate, vulnerable moments with total honesty. That takes real courage & depth of character! I am in awe!
I'm currently recovering from a knee injury and watching videos like these makes me super keen to get back on the bike. Very inspirational. Great work Manon you did amazing.
"You can tell I'm f****d now because I'm talking absolute s**t" . That needs to be on a t-shirt 😁😁
I felt every pedal stroke with you Manon, I did the Wicklow 200 this year overweight without enough training, had all the same emotions and pains. Chapeau young lady.. Top job
When I did my first Century I ended up doing over 130 miles because I got lost. It was in the 80s. Getting lost took so. much steam out of my legs. I really appreciate this incredible effort.
I know that feeling when you're completely cooked in a long event and one moment you feel "good" and the next you're questioning your life choices. It's a sign that you have pushed yourself and that's a good thing. It's been too long since I've done it and this video has inspired me to step out of my comfort zone again.
The joy in your voice when you said I did it, was fantastic! Well done!
Congratulations Manon, and well done GCN for a great production.
Thank you Manon ..and the crew it took ! Congratulations ! There is NO better feeling , in my life anyway , to finish an unknown distance ! Truly ! It takes a lot , and gives a lot . Enjoy that feeling !
It's an amazing feeling of accomplishment
@@gcn Thank for sharing that !
Tremendous effort Manon. I did a Texas 47 mile gravel ride and didn't think I would finish. 11 water bottles and 37° C with high humidity. It's a LOT harder at 68 years old 😉. Slowest average speed ever on my gravel bike 🥵
Why do I have the feeling that everyone watching this video is shouting in his place: "Come on Manon! Take your time Manon! We're with you!" Easy to say from your sofa. Great effort! Congratulations!
I doff my cap to Manon. What an absolute legend. Can’t imagine how that felt so Chapeau to my new cycling hero!
What a fantastic location for a ride. When you're doing an event, it can be difficult to step back and appreciate the scenery. Well done, Manon. Enjoyed the preparation videos and the actual race.
Caught the pre-race excitement and nervous anticipation, the moments of despair and torment during the race and satisfaction on completing it. Great story.
Best smile in the world, knowing you've done it - 18:30.
Mad respect from Poland! Manon is a fighter no doubt, be proud of this achievement!
What an amazing effort! You crushed it. I got a little teary when you crossed. I am so happy for you, Manon!
Brilliant achievement, Manon. Knew you would do it. Why don't you try some audax rides next? 200 km, 300km, 400 km or 600 km? You could do any of those distances.
Great time! Seriously impressive.
Nothing about this effort that shouldn't be celebrated. Well done, Manon, we loved watching this and watching you succeed yet again in being Manon.
It is such a joy to be part of your effort against fear, push fighting pain, laugh when we screw up, prayer when it feels like it’s only you and bravery and inspiration to say you will do it again……we should all wish a life you seem to lead….thank you…
One of the finest GCN productions, which is saying a lot. Love you guys. Manon, you’re an inspiration. Bravo!!
Thanks Peter, glad you enjoyed this one. We're really happy with how it came out!
Manon, you are wonderful, I don't know how you could doubt your success. At the finish line I was touched as if it was also my achievement. Once again, congratulations, you are all my inspiration to act. Greetings from Poland.
Congrats Manon!! I don't think people appreciate how DEVASTATING that high altitude is in Colorado. you are a Champ ! now you own the crown at GCN, those other dudes gonna have to step up their game BIG TIME !
Try Tracklocross next Manon. Gravel on a Fixed Gear, but way shorter distances. With the SBT behind you, Tracklocross should be right up your alley!
Really like the storytelling, filming and editing on this GCN film! Great effort by the crew and Manon obviously!
This has literally come out the day after I did a 179km London to Brighton and Back epic and I can feel every one of those pedal strokes Manon is taking
Cool - I'm planning to do the same prob this week. What was your route like? Hoping to use back roads/lanes with no off road. Where did you stop?
@@JibbaJabber I basically followed the London to Brighton route on the way down, and then came back via the Dorking gap/Box Hill (return route was basically a straight line to Dorking)
My longest ride is similar to that from Rotterdam to the German border (185km). Last 20km were so hard every little incline just hurts by then 😅.
What an effort Manon. Congratulations. I did a 160km Fondo in victoria British columbia yesterday and the last 20k was super emotional. Every time people on the side of the road cheered us on, it was all I could do not to cry my eyes out. Soon as I crossed the finish line I let it all out lol. Again an amazing effort. That's such a long way
12:37 ”Ay carumba” I felt that one! 😂
I really enjoyed that. Excellent production and an amazing effort by Manon created really inspirational content. I know I'll never be able to do 140 miles but it's given me the courage to try to ride further.
Congrats Manon! Congrats to anyone who pushes beyond their personal 'longest', no matter the distance.
Way to go Mannon! Great to see you overcome self-doubt and complete your longest effort. How do you fancy hill climbing? Suggest the Mt. Evans Hill climb in July of 2023. You too can ride ~27 miles to the top of a 14,000'+ mountain. The views are amazing and it's back in CO, USA!
"all I've got to do now is eat my food and ride my bike". Amazing! GCN inspiration right there
Wow! You had me tearing up at the end. I loved the way that you told your story. But I had no doubt that you would do it. Congrats!
I'm soooo happy you finished! Made me homesick for the roads I enjoyed for decades. It's great you took on such a challenge at altitude as I know how hard that is for flat landers. Kudos!
Love the realism of this epic, and how the gibberish and swearing was left in for the most part.
We all hit that point on the tough ones. 🤟
“I’de like to do it again.” True words of having hard good time on the bike. Thanks for the recap!
Congrats Manon, well done!! I noticed that your not wearing gloves - isn’t that tough on your hands is such a long gravel race? What was your thoughts on that??
First thing I noticed. Crashing without gloves is no fun.
I imagine that dust would be like climbers' chalk and semi-helpful on the hands, maybe? Or maybe its just too hot
Some people find gloves end up causing blisters especially on bumpy terrain, it's all personal preference
most likely she never thought about it, and since she is a roadie first hand, therefore, gloves was not on her mind. Maybe her 2nd time she would wear gloves.
Manon, you are incredible!!! And that was a tough difficult ride!!! You should be proud of yourself girl!!
Big hug for your accomplishments!
Great fun to watch Manon fight, push through, suffer, curse, giggle and nearly cry, BUT SHE FINISHED, SO CHAPEAU TO HER!!! Great Spirit, Manon
AMAZING MANON! What an achievement! Huge Kudos! 👏
Well done Manon! What an achievement and so inspiring!
Manon, so proud of you and your honesty about the whole thing was so raw and well, lovely! I loins just north of that race location and I am sure the dust, as it's been quite dry, was no picnic! Well done mate, well done!
I love the Manon swearing side!! what an amazing effort credit to yourself be very proud. Also the nails were painted for the occasion. well done!!
Absolutely epic! Well done Manon! Will there be a feature length on GCN+?
Bloody hell Manon, really well done, felt for you in the last section, must've been such a mental battle 👏👏👏👏👏
Manon cementing her place as a GCN legend. Hardcore.
First off Congrats Manon! I love and hate the places that cycling takes your mind, body and soul! The mind wills the body to pedal and continue and then when it gets dark the souls tells the mind and body to continue and finish the task ahead. Amazing what we can accomplish. Congrats!
Amazing job Manon. What a great video. A proper great achievement.
That was fantastic. Amazing effort by you, Manon. Lots of discipline training for it and near superhuman discipline to finish when you hit that wall (several times?). Personally I think you must be a bit mad to want to try it again but if you do you’ll have lots of lessons from this first race that’ll help. What a spectacular effort. 💪
That was a large quantity of work Manon, including two big slices of suffering. I'm so glad you finished. Nice work, lady.
This video at 6:08 to 6:10 - this is my inspiration scene of the month. Simply wow! 🔥 Magic.
Such superb effort from Manon and the cinematography was phenomenal. Thank you as always, GCN!
That was inspirational to watch. Well done Manon!
Way to fight through those dark moments. It's amazing how the body and mind can team up on you and make you just want to crawl into the ditch and lay there forever...but a few hours after you've finished, you've forgotten all about it, haha!
I laughed when you were talking about how dirty your bike was. I literally showered with mine after my last gravel race, it was that dirty. Also, I've become a master at applying chamois cream while still moving. It only took one race forgetting it to ensure that'll never happen again!
Why don't UA-cam has the feature of giving thumbs up in different sizes?
Manon, you earned my biggest ever thumbs up!!! :) Well done! People of GCN are proud of you! ;)
Go Manon, incredible effort!!! 💪 I'm only very new to the sport having started properly riding and training in Feb this year but you are a big big inspiration for me! I love gravel, I hope one day I can travel to America and do the steamboat too!
Manon is hard…. Strong?
Done a few 100 km gravel races, which gives me huge respect for how hard this must have been! Great video.
This was a great video; a real story about real people doing real things! Great production values too. I am a bit surprised that Manon had such a hard time, she is essentially a professional cyclist, it should not have been that difficult. I think it was probably a combination of the heat, and the altitude. In an ideal world she should have done training rides in Colorado for a week or two before the event to get acclimated. She is also more accustomed to making left turns on a glass smooth track for short periods of time. I recently did a hilly 110 mile ride and I felt just like her - it was the heat, that can really do you in! BTW, pickles are for the sodium.
Damn Manon...tears after watching your Strade Bianchi effort and now STB Gravel. RESPECT!
I had tears in my eyes at the end......such an achievement, well done Lady 🥳
You weren't the only one Jill!
same I was touched and teary
Now that the world has learned of pickle juice, racing will never be the same.
Seriously though, I keep a supply of pickle pops in my freezer for days I go too hard. I don't know how or why, but it works better than any other recovery product I've tried.
Also cheap and I like pickles.
Great job Manon! That is some serious distance at altitude, next time you ride at sea level it'll feel like you can chew on the air!
Awesome. Like many I had actually been waiting all week for this vid. An epic achievement - love the cursing when yr at yr lowest. Truly brilliant. Well done.
Well done Manon! What an achievement and so inspiring! I am however perplexed by the fact that looking at her training reports, she hasn't been training insanely and for a long time and she managed to finish so well. I train consistently about 20h /week and am not able to finish even a 140k event. How is that possible? 😪
Different people have different abilities.
Let’s give her some “likes” for this! Way to go, Manon!!
It's the electrolyte spike from the brine. Pickles are an excellent source. Caution to keep balance.
That was awesome to watch. I’ve never ridden off road and don’t own any off road type bike. But next year I turn 60 and thinking this May be a great way to celebrate. Well done Manon!!!
Manon, you are awesome!!
I’m 69 Yrs old, and yes our bodies are far more capable than we think.
You are my role model to achieve efforts old gals my age aren’t suppose to.
Keep on peddling mate! ❤️
You had me in full on tears the way you overcame and completed that race. Way to go Manon!
I run the same 650b 47 WTB Venture setup. Love it. You are a rockstar, Manon. Well done!!!
That was, quite simply, the best GCN video I have seen.
Good job Manon! Keep challenging yourself. Like most solo sports, cycling is 49% physical and 51% mental.
