To me, watching the video, it was not at all obvious to slow down. Everyone was going in too hot. They should have been warning the riders. That was entirely predictable.

This is without a doubt the best gravel racing video I have ever watched. The commentary made me feel like I was actually in the race. That course was SICK. Now I want to do. I used to be a hard core mountain biker like 30 years ago. I haven't raced in like 15 years, but after watching this, I am going to buy a gravel bike and start gravel racing at age 60.LETS GO!
That homeowner is awesome letting the race go through their house! I've ridden through a library once on a family bike event - it just feels so different and really quite special. This entire race looks fantastic but...I'm too slow and I live in the UK. Apart from those two nuggets I'd be there.
To tell the truth, I don't like gravel, but this video was really nice to watch. For the first time I watched an experience between mountain and road cycling. The most interesting cycling sports video I have watched recently.
@@hgiusdfajgfds Nah. I've read some of the qualifier gravel series like UCI Philippines was good. But then they went and gave the road teams qualified entry for the championship. UCI is never going to do a proper high stakes gravel race because then the pampered roadies won't show. Or their teams won't let them participate.

You did great! I crashed ON THE WAY to the venue. After I realized my shoulder was not going to stop popping in and out--I quit at the Pebbler turn-off. Watching makes me a little bummed on my DNF...but you're right it's a great vibe and there's really no part of the course that doesn't demand focus. Cheers!

Im sorry man, taking ketones does not prevent concussions. At best, there's cursory evidence that they can help recovery post concussion/TBI. Brain injuries are not something to play with, if you're cross eyed after a head strike its time to pull out...

Fun video to watch; I'm glad to see you survived and enjoyed the experience. I grew up and raced in Bako while in my 20s and used to ride a lot of those same trails in the 90s. We used to call that fun canyon section Mr. Toads Wild Ride:). The East Bakersfield hills were beautiful then, and many still look the same. I wanted to cry last year coming across all the trash in the hills South of Hart Park. Sam Ames, the guy behind this, used to organize the best cyclocross courses in Hart Park and was a nationally-ranked crosser; I'm glad to see that he's still involved in planning great local events. If you ever want to get some great road routes in, just ask the locals at Action Sports or elsewhere; there are so many great road climbing routes in the foothills and beyond leaving from Bako. Their October century called the Spooktacular is an annual trek back home to reminisce about all the great rides I've done and friends that I've made in this area.

I had a similar crash last August where my right dropbar handgrip caught a mailbox that was leaning into the road. Took me two weeks to remember what happened. Suffered a whiplash concussion and was partially blinded for about an hour. Bike was ok though. Glad you are ok.

Great video, brought back memories from last Saturday. My right pedal hit that same rock or one near it, ripped my foot out of the pedal and my hamstring cramped for a second. My buddy behind me was like “ you almost ate shit”. I now realize it could have been a lot worse. I am glad your helmet did its job and you were ok. I am also looking forward to next year.
Awesome video! Thanks! It sounds like you tried the right techniques for climbing in stiff-soled shoes. Duck walking and side walking are how mountain climbers do it in their stiff-soled boots. If your future plans include more steep hike-a-bikes, your technique may improve with a little practice.
Monster juggernaut. I broke my collarbone exactly a month ago on my weekly Sun early am group ride. Was 3/4 in and got crossed on someone swerving left as I didn't slow in time. Didn't wobble but as I first swerved left as I was bumped then trying correct my bike & body felt like a gyro snd I got sucked down on my right side @22 mph. Shoulder first. Happened so fast I couldn't even put my hands out. Collarbone complete separation in the center. Now 3 weeks post surgery, 9 screes and a Ti plate later I'm left with staying in a positive mindset. As you did Sir! You could have white toweled it but the spirit to continue was awesome! 15th or 25th, whatever you conquered everything that was tossed in your face and charged on. Btw the dropper was a great idea! Thanks for sharing
