I do like that it has smaller canister for the cover on the back vs retrax. My retrax took so much space where you couldn't put much of anything under it. Thanks for a good video!
Sure thing!! Thanks for watching.
Whats the dimensions on the e series. I heard that it's bigger then the m series. Can you confirm please
That's badass. U sold me on it and the cargo manager. Great vid
Awesome, I think you will love it. Thanks for the kind words. Happy New Year!!
I’ve had a original style Roll and Lock on my Chevy 3500 Dually Diesel for About 20 years now it’s held up well but it was never water tight I keep a water tight box under the cover and use my back seat for dry storage
We have two! this is an amazing fix!
looks nice in the video, but way to many reviews say it doesn't fit properly because it is obviously the actual top was obviously made for another vehicle.
I haven’t seen any of those issues, matter of fact first time I’ve heard of that complaint. Mine is running just fine. Are people buying the wrong size then complaining it didn’t fit right?
Great review. Very comprehensive.
Glad it was helpful!
Where did you get the storage containers you have under the Roll N Lock? They look like the fit nicely.
I really like that Cargo Manager gadget! What a cool idea👍🏼
Yeah it is pretty incredible.
Where did you get the divider?
I’m from Arizona also. I subscribed because of that. I have a 2018 double cab silverado LT can you help with adding fog lights?
How has it held up since You installed it? This video is a little over a year old now and I'm just wondering if You've encountered any issues?
Perfectly fine for me.
Really nice video and complete thanks brother greetings from taft california
Thanks 👍
Do you think it would freeze on duck hunting trips with temps in the teens and twenty’s.
How much does it take up front-to-back compared to the manual aluminum version? Is is possible to open, close, lock and unlock it manually or with physical key if no power?
Were there any unexpected issues hooking up the motor to a Powerboost specifically?
My soft tonneau has never had that much water from a carwash, so I’m guessing it doesn’t have a flap over the top of the tailgate
By the time you stop to check you don’t see the water because it drains. You wouldn’t know unless you had a camera recording it when it happened.
Hello there. I’ve watched your video on the roll n lock e-series as one of many videos as I’ve been doing extensive research to pick a cover and landed on this based on the great reviews. I had the e-series professionally installed (I live in PA) and everything about the install is fine. But the thing leaks horribly through the slats of the top! Do you have any experience with this happening?
Hey, I had the same issue with mine, it leaks horribly. Unfortunately mine completely broke 3 months in the rail that spins fell so it wouldn't open and close, customer service is absolutely horrible they pretty much said oh well and would t do anything about it. So I really hope things are going better for you then they did for me.
I just ordered a roll n lock cover with a remote.
Do the slats overlap or can a craft knife blade fit between the slats ,I see alot of pp now getting stuff stolen because the bad guys are cutting the rubber hinge between the slats ,take a few seconds to break in !
Not for this model. Part of the reason it’s so expensive is because each of the slats are physically nested to the next one via a channel connection of sorts. It allows for the rotation needed to roll up but maintains the continuity of a single long sheet of metal.
Between the slats (Sorry for the late reply, trying to catch up on old comments I missed)
@@GearsGadgetswait so can it be cut between the slots or not
Any idea if you can program the remote to the f-150 universal garage door opener? Any chance you could try that out? I have your same truck.
Great review
Thank you sir!!
I bought the Pace Edwards cover for my truck. This is nice but mine covers the complete rail top with channels in it to add a ladder rack or many other items. As for snow i live in Upstate New York and we get lots of snow in Syracusr to Mohawk Valley. Never an issue with weight as ive stood on mine but ice forms then you have to chip it away to open. Keeps its truly dry and very secure. Also has the feature of actually pinching an object that is taller against tailgate to hold.
For the money well worth it. Better than trifold or fiberglass. Mine has been on for over 4 years now and i posted a quick 15 second video on my page for it. I would buy again over anything else.
This is nice but i enjoy the channel rails as i can tie things to an eyebolt anyplace along the length and add a rack with out drilling holes or compromising the channel that the cover rolls in.
Thanks for the input.
Can you program the remote to work with the f-150 garage door openers ?
How do you get sponsored just curious I’m I don’t really know I mean I’m handicap I don’t have a lot of money and I like this tunnel cover you’re putting on here I want it for my truck or not so I can buy one I just don’t know how much they are and I want the one like yours with it has a button and it comes back and goes hard I want that tunnel cover it’s like where did you get it and how much was it if you could tell me at appreciate it
Wonder if it would hold up to 2 sundown 12s 2500 watts. 🤔
That cover is pretty cool was just wondering how much space does the motor take how many inches. And man that thing really is strong I would be scared to open and close that thing on the highway.
Opening and closing on the highway isn't bad. I don't want to quote the size of the bulkhead because it might be different for every truck. I can say, it isn't really that big and I don't find it getting in my way.
If you could measure how big the motor would be that would be huge I own a similar truck and I can't see the motor size being too much bigger on any other truck unless it's an 8-foot bed where it has to roll up more will be good to know how long your bed is that would probably determine how many inches thick it will be when you fold it up
@@GearsGadgets Any idea if the remote control can be programmed to the f-150 universal garage door opener buttons?
No squeeze or rattle noise by high speed ?
Nope
Glad I watched this, before I was about to spend $2,500
Happy to help
if you stop it anywhere along the track is it automatically locked? Can it even be opened manually?
Yes you can stop it anywhere on the track and it stays locked in that position. Yes it can be opened manually, there is a release latch along the passenger side rail that disengages the motor gear and allows you to freely operate it if needed (I never do but you can)
I have a midsize truck with a sport bar I'm curious if that will fit along with the bar installed
Totally honest, I dont know.
Nice video. 😊
Thank you Ygglur
Cool 😎
for sure
Is there a manual crank system to open close it - for when the motor dies on it?
Sort of, There is a release latch on the inside along the rail, you can disengage the motor and operate it manually if that were to happen.
@@GearsGadgets how far along is it donhou have to crawl in ?
can i get the for a 2021 ram 1500 with ram box and multi tailgate?
I would NEVER waste my money buying 1 of these again if I can't have it installed. NEVER
Can you only open it a little bit and stop it?
Yeah.
Not a handy man, buying my first pick up truck.. if I purchase this where would I get this installed at?
I would imagine a local shop would do it for you relatively cheap. I recommend calling a couple maybe even a dealer and asking. It’s really not too difficult to install so they should be willing.
Congratulations on buying your first truck. Hope you've been enjoying it since your post was made.
Why isn't this a factory optional feature in pickup trucks?
It pretty much is. Most if not all trucks offer the option but most if not all dealers don’t order them that way for inventory because they make a ton of money selling aftermarket accessories installed at the dealer level.
You know how there are bed rack up and overs where you could mount a tent? It goes over the bed. Would that work in conjunction with this?
I dont know.
What is with the car parked so close to your truck and the bush at rear of the truck......both don’t give you much room to work!
At the time I lived in an apartment with designated parking spaces. Not a lot of choice in working area.
What was that tool organizer in the front of your bed interested in it
Nowyll Trippe instacrates I picked up from Costco.
Do you know how to program a key fob?
Interested in this as well
If you have a tool box can you just move the whole system forward or will that not work?
Honestly, even if it would work (which I cant confirm), I wouldn't do it. Between the toolbox and the tonneau cover bulkhead that it coils into, it would take up so much bed that it would be crazy. That's just my opinion. Im sure you could rig it up, but I wouldn't be able to confirm it would work.
They make a tool box/roll up tonneau cover combo. I have one and it works great
I like to go "Ricky Bobby" in my truck (FAST), does this bad boy vibrate hard at high speeds? Could you hear of any vibration during your road test?
Id like an answer as well
@@---tx9xx
Well, I bought the cover since the post.
No, I don't hear any vibration at high speeds. I've gone as fast as 110 and kept that speed for about a minute straight and the only thing I can say is it fluttered like crazy.
@@gorillaking210 hey thanks so much for the reply. do you hear it though at highway speeds with your windows open? And no music. Also how has your experience been with it Re waterproofing, strength, how much space it takes up etc
@@---tx9xx
You're welcome. Happy to help with what I know.
As far as sound, I don't hear the bed cover making any noise (with radio off and windows down). BUT, to be honest I have an aftermarket exhaust on my truck that my keep me from hearing if it truly does. In my opinion, I still believe it that the cover doesn't make any "what the hell is that!" noise. WATERPROOF: it's not sealed airtight, so some water does get in the bed but it will keep 95% of what you have in there dry. The 5% that does get wet is no more than if you were to wash your hands and use one of those cheap air dryers in a public bathroom to dry your hands and you walked off before your hands were COMPLETELY DRY......nothing major. SPACE: I have a short bed truck. If a visual is needed, it's GMC Sierra. I can still put my fit my crotch rocket in the bed (at an angle) and can almost close the tailgate. So there is still plenty of room as far as what my situation is trying to explain. Your concern could be different from mine when it comes to if that's enough room for you. The housing that the cover rolls into doesn't even touch the floor of the bed, which leaves a decent space to put some stuff up under it (not big ass items) but stuff can fit right under it if needed. Truthfully, I like it. And I've gotten compliments. It really looks smooth as hell when you push the button and it starts to roll back. It looks really good on my truck. The install isn't bad at all. It can be done by one, but I had my young son put it on with me and we had fun doing it. Hope this helps.
@@gorillaking210 Thanks so much super helpful, I don't know anyone personally who has it and it's great to get a firsthand reply from a real person, not a salesman. Do you have an opinion on how theft-resistant it is? (vs something like a diamonback) Finally - do you have any idea by any chance if the remote control can be programmed to the garage buttons on the truck? I have an F-150 that has 3 universal garage door opener buttons that I have the garage programmed to, would be awesome if could program the remote control for the tonneau to them. And hey does it get real hot in the sun? Thanks again bud
Can you make it stay partially opened, or is it either closed or open?
You can make it stay partially open just by tapping the remote button where you want it to stay and it stops there.
Gears & Gadgets that’s awesome. I want one but I don’t think they make one that’s electric for my 2017 ram rebel with the ram boxes
Jeremy Miller check out RetraxPRO
A soft cover doesn’t leak and a good one cost $250.... don’t be stupid people, eBay and Amazon isn’t the way to go either
And can easily and is commonly in certain areas cut or lifted up by thieves to steal the contents out of the bed. If you own a truck as a decoration sure but if you are a tradesmen with expensive tools and materials to protect then your beloved soft cover would be stupid.
How do you operate it?
How would it work when its covered in ice build up ?
It does the exact same thing as every other cover on the market. I’ve builds up on the flat surface, it sucks for a day for two, then it goes away. I am originally from Buffalo NY so I understand how cold weather works. It makes everything suck including freezing up car doors and every tonneau cover being flat causes an issue. If it’s that big of a problem, get a garage. Otherwise deal with the misery for a few days like everyone else.
@@GearsGadgets Or get a one piece hinged tonneau cover.
@@frankthompson3495 you are more than welcome to buy whatever tonneau cover works best for you with relatively uncommon scenarios. 99.99999% of people can deal with some ice for a day or two and would opt for the cover that has more utility the majority of the time but there isn’t one answer for everyone.
Can you give the dimensions of the unit at front of the bed that it rolls into?
Sorry for the super late reply Josh Breslin. I appreciate that you stopped by the channel and apologize for not responding WAY sooner.
@@GearsGadgets Still didn't give an answer
Cheek Busting 101 because the question was asked 7 months ago and I’m 99% positive he wasn’t waiting on me. Also, I’m not going to start quoting dimensions to find out someone buys it for a longer or shorter bed and the bulkhead size changes between them, then I’m to blame for being wrong. I would direct those questions to the manufacturer.
@@GearsGadgets I have the exact same truck as you so would be interested in the dimensions, thank you!
Wish I had watched this before I bought mine, leaks like a sieve!!, Damaged seals in packing didn't help and Roll N Lock Customer Service is Brutal.
Funny you said that, roll n lock is horrible. I bought my cover got the most expensive one they offered at the time it was over 3,000$ not only did it leak horribly but 3 months in the rail that spins the cover broke. I contacted roll n lock multiple times and their response was well I don't know what to tell you, they were nasty as hell to me said they won't do anything without proof so I sent multiple videos, when I got no response I would call back and they would tell me they never received it. This went on and on they refused to do a thing about it
Wonder how this thing would work in canada winter time
I got a tyger tri-fold tonneau cover for my Silverado, handles new Hampshire winter pretty well. Easy install also
Mine freezes shut, and it's a manual as well. I wouldn't dare try the electric powered variant up here.
Just fine I presume
What is the max height dimension that it will clear in order to close? I have a 2019 Silverado. Thanks
About an inch +/- below the bed rail until you get to the bulkhead where the cover rolls into.
How does this cover handle the snow?
Just fine.
How would it hold up to snow weight?
Just fine, I come from Buffalo NY originally so I know snow and lots of it. I know snow load can be significant but I wouldn’t doubt this cover could hold quite a bit.
Why did u park so close to the column?
Because that’s how much space they gave me and if I park further away I am in someone else’s space. Either way I don’t live there anymore so it’s not an issue
Me gustaría saber como abrirla manual
Hay una manilla adentro para soltar el mecanismo si falle, es de emergencia solo
It’s gonna make me more lazy.
Thats the american dream lol
Can you wash it with the tonneau cover open?
Yeah
Can it fit Nissan frontier
I am not sure, you would have to check their website for fitment options.
Can this cover be opened manually if necessary?
Yeah it has a manual release.
@@GearsGadgets can it be locked and unlocked manually? How does that work if it’s locked
I would also love to see a demo of the electric cover in manual mode.
@@jordanhammerman7955 that'd be great. Also interested how strong it is ie can you stand on it, load stuff on it
Qual o preço envia para Portugal ??

You should have went with a Diamondback...luv mine
Is it hard to remove if you need to?
Not at all. Remove a few brackets and your done.
@@darrinthomas3732 Thanks the info.I just watched a couple of videos on it too and it definitely looks like a better choice.
Sorry for the super late reply Darrin Thomas. I appreciate that you stopped by the channel and apologize for not responding WAY sooner.
Just had this installed on my 2019 Sierra. Any idea of a rack system that would work to elevate a load (a canoe or Paddleboard) with crossbars above the cab? I know RollnLock makes a quikrak, but that’s a low crossbar and the canoe would extend 10 feet out the back.
Hmm I am not sure, haven't looked into it so I wouldn't be able to recommend anything.
can u hear the fluttering when u r not playing music?
I don’t have any fluttering.
@@GearsGadgets in the video u say there is fluttering when going over 70 miles
Erkut Acar oh I’m sorry yeah you can SEE a little flutter but you cant HEAR anything. I misunderstood the question.
@@GearsGadgets ok great, i really like that product
How is this holding up?
Really good.
Gears & Gadgets How does it lock?
Getout Mybidnez it’s basically just always “in gear” so it is basically self locking. It would require the same amount or more effort to break it open as it would if you jumped on it to break it. It also has a release that you can access Incase something happens where you lose power or the motor fries or something so you could put it into a “manual mode”
Gears & Gadgets thanks
what size is your bed ?/??
6 1/2’
I had heard that type of cover rattles at highway speeds
paas624 mine isn’t rattling at all.
Anything will rattle if u put it on wrong. Lol
Mikey likey
It is solid AF
$2k for a cover that isn’t waterproof at the tailgate? Hard pass. Cargo manager is cool though.
To each their own
Nursing. I 100% agree
None are 100% waterproof.
About how much of the box does it take up?
About a foot square so there is still room underneath to get stuff all the way to the front of the bed. I haven’t really seen it as an obstacle. If you were loading a 4 wheeler or something it would be a problem.
@@GearsGadgets does it take up more room front to back than the non electric version?
donde se localizan xfaaaa
No sure
Why cant they make it waterproof. Grrr
There is just too many areas where water infiltration will get in. The rail system is just too porous.
It REALLY isn’t that porous at all. The only place I get water infiltration is right at the tailgate when the pressure washer of the car wash hits directly on the rear. MOST of the water just runs right down the tailgate and in a rain event, it is so minor I don’t worry about it. Any water runs into the depressed areas of the bed and right down and out of the bulkhead.
How much is it?
Link in the description. Prices are always changing.
Gears & Gadgets They are very expensive doe
That's more than my first car cost.
Same but I also bought my first car in 1999 for $500 that I drove for 2-3 years and now your lucky to find something that runs for less than $3000
I will admit this was in1971 and prices have slightly increased since then.
For 2500 that should be water tight
What about the tailgate that has no weather seal or all the random tie downs or drain holes that exist across hundreds of different pickup beds over all the years these things fit? You want them to have 300 different sku’s with all of the different kits to seal off a bed AND want them to keep the price $2,500? It blows my mind that people somehow think these companies should magically make something watertight that was never designed to be watertight in the first place. Buy an SUV or put your valuables in watertight plastic cases like they should be anyway.
That things a pos.
Thx for the heads up.
That’s certainly not what I said. I think it’s awesome and has held up phenomenally well living in the desert where UV kills virtually everything. Oh, it also lived through a Buffalo, NY winter just fine. Both extremes of weather.
$3500 😂
David Gizzarelli $3,500? It’s well under $2,000.
A little water ! Lol!
If that is a lot of water to you from a highly pressurized water source directed straight at the seals maybe a pickup truck is the wrong vehicle for you. I hear the Hyundai Sonata is pretty nice.
Omg that sucks , their expensive and the seal sucks big time 😂😂
The seal is fine. If you need more of a “seal” buy a Suburban. Expensive yes but secure which in turn protects far more expensive contents.
@@GearsGadgets is the seal in any way worse than the manual version
Pro tip. Don’t use a car wash.
I take mine through the car wash all the time.
Gears & Gadgets they’re horrible for your finish. Unless you use the touch less ones, but those don’t really work.
Nice you scratch your tailgate good tutorial though
People r so lazy
I am 99% sure that people buying covers like this aren’t doing it for their inability or struggle with manual operation. I think it’s more security and convenience that is the consideration.
