@@GearsGadgetsyou should try the Renegade tonneau cover that would be an interesting video the direct competitor to Diamondback or maybe say comparison
No way, No How. For over a $2000 savings, I’ll open and close my BAK Revolver X2 tonnage cover manually and also save the headaches on installation and electronic/motor failure.
It’s not for everyone but the added T-Slots and engineering to take 500 lbs of load on ladder racks or roof top tents on top of the electrification is what commands such a price. In terms of motors, they appear to be similar to the power step motors which have never failed on me and are also mounted on the back and appear to be easily serviceable. So while it’s not for everyone, it’s certainly for some who want / need such features.
If you truly need to “haul” you should be towing because towing capacity is 5x payload capacity. I could make an argument that the bed of the truck is the LEAST important feature of a truck if you need to haul anything.
That's one badass tonneau cover but is it necessary hell no lol but the best part about it is the rails so you can add a rooftop tent or ladder racks if you're working & keep all your shit safe! Cool review dude! If I had 💰 to throw away 🗑️ I might get it 😂
I purchased the retrax EQ so I can use the app and truck key fob to operate the bed cover. One thing they don’t tell you is app will not work if your truck has automatic side steps, doesn’t matter if they are factory installed or aftermarket. If Retrax would have advertised the bed cover this way I would not have purchased this bed cover. I would have went with the cheaper version. Called retrax and waiting to hear back from them. Will update once issue has been resolved.
According to RETRAX, the signal from the factory steps interferes with signal for pairing the RETRAX EQ. My truck is a newer tundra, apparently the Tundras are having the issue.
@Texans_tundra what if the steps we installed just connect to the battery and nothing else? The Rough Country ones don't have another module thing you have to put in the engine bay like some AMP ones do.
I don’t get wrapped around the axle anymore, so to speak, about not being able to fit a 4 x 8 sheet of plywood in the bed of a truck. No one‘s really been able to do that for the most part for about 20 years! Have it delivered or get a traileror stack it on top of bed rails that go over the cover. If you’re in business, you’re not using a cover anyway. You’re using a vehicle that delivers wood.
My lightly used 2019 Ford Dually came with one of these Retrax retractable covers, but mine is just a manual one...as far as I know anyway. I just slide it open and closed, and it will lock in whatever position I need. Best cover I have ever had for sure, and getting it for free is pretty great too.
I swear, tonneau covers keep getting more and more expensive - and power-operated? One more thing to fail. Heck, I used to run BAK Roll-X covers on my trucks, and when I got the RAM, I said no way and got some cheap $200 soft tonneau. The BAK ones just didn't hold up over 3 or 4 years [vinyl peeling, seals giving way, etc.] I don't need the fancy features or metal construction - just keep stuff dry enough to get to my destination. Glad this one is working for you, though!
How many miles on your truck now Dan are you to keep for long haul are trade it in my 2021 bought new has 46k on it planning on keeping for as long as possible v8 good motor never knows how long they will be making v8 not ready for electric truck here but it's coming
Any suggestions or hints about the wiring? Other videos for the XR series indicated that there isn’t a fuse and no loom to protect the wires. Did you do anything custom to improve the electrical side of the install? Love the water test. Brilliant!
I added the Retrax power with the rails for Yakiima rack on Ram dually. Good cover though it leaks no matter what and worst part is no emergency release, on the road remote dies you are hosed. Big no for me.
THE EQ DOES NOT WORK ON NEW GM TRUCKS- DO NOT BUY IT IF YOU HAVE A NEW CHEVY/GMC. The promised door lock/unlock and tailgate functions don't work, and it almost never responds after 3 presses of the remote. 4-6 is the norm. !DO NOT BUY THE RETAX EQ IF YOU HAVE A NEW CHEVY/GMC!
@@GearsGadgets I did. They confirmed the truck controls not working is a known issue, and took 2 weeks to tell me I need to click my remote really slowly if I want the cover to respond in 3-4 clicks instead of 4-6. Like slow enough that each button press causes the lights on the truck to flash, which is REALLY slow.
Someone who doesn't know how to pronounce "tonneau" is reviewing tonneau covers? Maybe he is Canadian. Canadians don't know how to pronounce simple words like "process"..... Ahhh one of these “Ackchyually” dorks. Also, I’m from Buffalo so I’m practically Canadian, you nailed it. Anyone who has the desire and time to correct pronunciation in UA-cam comments are by far the kind of people I want to surround myself with. What a Ron!!
@@Griswold20 I used 4 existing holes in my bed and re did the drains. The whole install was no holes in metal. Just 1 plastics bed plug drilled and I bought some new ones incase I every need them.
Fair, it’s why I started the video with mentioning more budget friendly options. Not everyone is going to need 500 lbs of carry capacity with racked systems, electronic operation with OEM integration, the fit and finish, and the 5 year warranty. I realize saying that probably sounds defensive which it’s not. I appreciate the people who look at the price and dismiss everything else but there is certainly a market for people who will need or want that level of functionality. There is also a market that will be happy with a $400 fabric cover with snaps down the bedrail. As they say, different strokes.
Do you have a code to use at Real truck to support the channel?
Thanks for taking that into consideration, really appreciate it. imp.i128439.net/k0PnBd

If I owned a cyber truck 😂😂😂
Trucks are meant to haul , not just simply tow, no way for that price

It doesn't look like they have a long bed offering . That's a big downer.
What is the measurement on the canister? Do you think I can get a decked drawer system underneath?

They dont nake it for gm yet, was wondering if you knew the difference between this one and the powertrax pro MX model. Thats what i have currently
A deep freeze , long term winter review would prove interesting.
Long term winter review in Phoenix Arizona is going to be a little difficult but I might venture into some snow.
Do they make this cover for 2500HD truck? If not, what do you recommend for a 2500HD truck?
You should try the Renegade it's supposably a direct competitor to the Diamondback you probably get a lot of views for that one

The Retrax EQ does have an emergency release. Sorry that is one feature I missed in the video.
The cartridge takes up too much room the the bed of my 5 foot bed.
Thumbs down, he completely glossed over the wiring. At least he told the truth about the install time, 4-5 hrs.

The only electric I would ever buy would be from EGR. The retracts is a joke in terms of quality compared to it.
Minus the 500 holes it requires you to drill in your truck
