Get ready for a Halloween-themed experiment that's perfect for adults to share with toddlers and preschoolers! If you have elementary school-aged children who can follow directions, they can join in with adult assistance and supervision. Safety is key, so make sure to follow my instructions to prevent any potential chemical or heat burns. Remember, a 40 volume solution of hydrogen peroxide can cause skin irritation and burns, so gloves and safety goggles are a must!
Keep in mind, the foam produced in this reaction is hot. Give it a few minutes to cool down before touching, even with gloves on.
Set up a suitable space for your experiment. Opt for an outdoor location like the grass or a washable sidewalk. If you're doing it indoors, cover your table with a plastic tarp or use a large disposable tray.
After you're done, clean up right away to ensure young children can't access the hydrogen peroxide. Also, be mindful that the yeast may start to develop an unpleasant odor if left out for too long. You can safely dispose of the experiment materials in the trash or rinse them down the sink. Have a spooktacular time experimenting!
