  • The Johnny Depp and Amber Heard defamation trial is approaching the end of the line as lawyers for the "Pirates of the Caribbean" actor present their rebuttal case to the jury in Fairfax, Virginia. Recalling damages expert Michael Spindler, who analyzed Heard and Depp's earnings and how much damage had been done financially to their careers, testified that Heard's expert witness' analysis that she lost $40-50 million because of negative publicity was not based in fact.

It's obvious that JD went to the very top with his choice of lawyers and experts and AH went to a large cheap firm. They used the same experts they have used countless times which shows how unprepared they were for this specific case. They handled this case the same way they handled all other cases. JD's team tailored their case to JD, they knew who to put on the stand and controlled what they said. All of AH's witnesses were loose cannons who did more harm than good. You get what you pay for.

Yeah that moment when she talked about "not being an expert in semantics" really bothered me for a lot of reasons. Causation and correlation are two different phenomena, they are not synonymous whatsoever... so it isn't "semantics".
"Semantics" would be trying to argue the difference between "passing out" and "sleeping", or "pledging" and "donating", as Amber Heard has tried to do.

I’m not listening to the case because I care about Hollywood. Although, I have seen a couple of Depp’s movies (being a kid during the 1980’s). My undergraduate degree is comprised of Law, Psychology, and Literature.
I had no idea who Heard was, until someone mentioned I should watch the case.
I’m aghast at the lack of trial etiquette on the part of Heard’s team, and am interested in the nuance of defamation, and the issue of domestic violence.

They're really doing a great job everything considered. They are providing the best arguments they can based on the information they are getting from their client. As attorneys they have to assume what their client tells them is true and accurate. They have done as well as they can trying to make the evidence fit what their client claims is true. If their arguments never stand up or make sense under scrutiny it's because the claims of their client, that they must assume are true, are totally false. If Heard had been honest and accurate with her claims to her attorneys they would have had some foundation to create a completely different strategy.

I hope that Mr. Depp has learned some valuable lessons from his experiences with Ms. Heard. Responsibility to show up to his movie sets on time, associate with friends that will be a helpful benefit after detox, he needs only one house and one vacation home, not numerous penthouses for housing for “friends” to take advantage of him. The list is a long one. Re-evaluation of his life is in order.

Amber has come a long way since her role as 406 in Zombieland. She played a blood thirsty monster in that role too.
