love that old town ...... there is so much to see around that area and not to mention all the mines.....There is still plenty of Gold there as well just over the hill.....so you know what I am gonna say huh .....So C'mon...let's Go !!!!
Keep them pants on Sonny Jim - you're gonna get wet! Such cool history here and what about the donkeys? You know what I'm gonna say....Go put a Pin in the Atlas.
That was a wonderful pin. Donkeys included. I worked and stayed at the "Gold road" mine and had my first experience with a jack about 4:30 a.m. . He brayed more like bellowed right outside my open window. Scared me so bad i had to make a trip to the loo. Yee_Haa! Great seeing some of my old stomping grounds again. Thanks! and thank you.:-)
Oatman is a great place to explore. We love the donkeys too. Little too touristy these days though. Would have loved to have seen it when Clark and Carole used to visit.
That is one of the best tours of Oatman I've watched. Most just pass through the town quickly showing the donkeys and a few buildings. Your slow clear camera movement brings me with you. While it is a tourist town, I appreciate the historical educational info and funny scenes you experience on your walks! I'm sure it was a great quiet getaway for Gable and others to recharge or gamble.
I love that place. My dad had a drill press mounted on the wall in his workshop. It was one of my favorite toys. I think it was bigger and older. Painted shiny black. Thanks cheers
Can you imagine how many millions of cars have traveled through Oatman since Route 66 goes through it. My parents came through there in 1949, moving to Calif. Since I live 20 miles from Oatman, I took my dad there and he remembered stopping and buying my oldest brother an ice cream. I heard the old Model A's' and T's had to be driven up in reverse through Sitgreaves pass so the gas tanks would be higher than the carburetor and not stall out from the lack of gas. I don't think they had fuel pumps till around 1932.
That is really great to relive those memories. Sitgreaves pass is quite tight and twisty, can't even begin to imagine having to drive it in reverse! Thank you for sharing that info with us.
This video was absolutely delightful, Andrea and Steven.👏👏 Oatman is quite the place. Thank you for this so interesting and informative, guided tour. 👏🤠💛👻
I wish I had known you guys were up in Oatman I would have ran up the hill and showed you some cool sites. I used to be up at the Oatman hotel alot. Funny thing I was looking at some of your older videos and seen you guys did one with Wonderhussy. I even told her to go up to Oatman for a visit. I'm always out and about but always miss bumping into you guys and Wonderhussy.
If you ever get to Laughlin NV or Kingman AZ you have no excuse for not visiting Oatman AZ. It is a great location, especially if you follow the old Route 66 from Kingman.
@@PinInTheAtlas You could go to the Pioneer Saloon in Goodsprings NV. where Gable stayed waiting for Carol Lombards body to be recovered from the airplane crash in 1942.
We have been there before we did UA-cam. You can still see the burn marks of his cigars on the bar. At least that’s what the owner told us. They make great coffee there too. We were planning returning at some point and hiking to the crash site. It’s a pretty hard hike! Maybe next time we’re in the area.
@@PinInTheAtlas It took WH two tries to get to the site from the bottom. Almost nothing there. The rescuers went from the top which might be a better way. The hike is pretty hazardous, sketchy.
In the mid-1950's, after the highway had been rerouted, Oatman was almost a true ghost town. Very few residents and no tourists. Buildings were crumbling. I don't remember any burros then.
That must have been a sight to see, Jan. Similar to the places like we usually explore! I guess the donkeys have got so used to human contact they have now migrated into town.
On the many times I've been to Oatman, I learned that the resident donkeys love automotive anti-freeze that leaks out of older vehicles. Normally, anti-freeze is deadly to animals but the donkeys in Oatman have develped immunity and love it's sweet taste. When I was there years ago, they sold us tourists carrots to feed the donkeys!
Amazing,love it.❤️👍

Thank you so much. Glad you were able to explore the town with us.

Tragic story about Lombard and Gable! Life can throw you a curve at any moment! Great pin!
Very. You can still see the burn marks on the bar top from his cigars while he was waiting for the news! Sad story.
Love donkeys 🤙🏽great info about not feeding them carrots. What a dope place guys ✌🏽🤙🏽🙌🏽

I'll be passing through Oatman this fall.
Andrea and Steve,
What a neat town and that phone was awesome!
The leader Donkey is "The Vicar of "bray" right?
Cheers,
Rik
Hello you all! Looks like a real Wild West town! Those Donkeys found a new friend! Lol!
hi just found your channel form abandon mines and forgotten places. love your videos just sub
Thank you so much James. We hope you enjoy the rest of our content!
@@PinInTheAtlas looking forward to watching all your videos thanks
Oatman seems to at least be holding its own. So many places are gone.
Become very touristy, possibly because of the burros!
Having Ice cream and Watching the Shoot out is a Very Relaxing time for Us every few months

Those donkeys look like overgrown stray dogs :-)
Thanks for the tour. The safe on the inside door. It looks like it had a clock??? Maybe making the safe setup on a timer???
Had no idea about that.

Oatman is a great place, lots of history, and of course - the donkeys.
The railroad takes up alot of my time. But I do find time to ride the Harley up there still.
@@richardkrautkramer996 A Harley is the ultimate dream machine to explore Route 66.
been there many times, a nice little place

So true!
Frankly the room was because Clark Gable did'nt give a damn.
LMAO! Good one Roger!

Try to get out to San Diego and relax oceanside this year. Taco shops galore and all awesome!! Timmy C Arizona
Too busy and gas prices are through the roof. But we will find somewhere to relax - Out in the middle of nowhere probably.
What an interesting find. Does that mean that you couldn’t pass Go and went directly to jail. I hope it wasn’t to haunted also.
Nothing came up in the editing, and we didn't feel anything either!
Good video, Kids!
I think that was Elvis's skeleton 😆
LMAO
Why go to these pits
? Don’t understand what you’re getting at

Isn't it funny how things change over the years? One day it's "healthy" the next day it's "poisonous". Can't keep up anymore!
