It’s so sad that there was no communication among all of the emergency personnel and all of the police officers. I am sure dispatch was overwhelmed with 911 calls. This was a serious breakdown of communication all together that could have been prevented. I am so heartbroken for all of the families who lost so much. All because officials were clueless on what was happening and made poor decisions in my opinion. So many could have survived if some had used common sense over following orders.😢

This is my dear friend Noe. I have known her since we were small children. I've spoken to her several times since this happened and seeing her recount her experience on the news breaks my heart. Been in a similar situation trying to evacuate my former hometown here in Alberta this summer when it went up in flames. Thankfully only one structure was lost in my town and nobody died but I get the sense of panic and helplessness while stuck in traffic as flames get closer and closer. It look us 5 hours to make it out with 2.5 of those stuck in gridlock bumper to bumper, but we got out. I feel for each and everyone affected by this and every other similar tragedy this year... Lots of learn from these incidents...

I cannot believe the POLICE not fully opening the road North and South stopping incoming traffic to allow all lanes to flow out of central Lahaina where the fire was now raging. Viewing footage captured by other motorist the police were blocking the road to access the highway North and South. People were grid locked. That resulted in the burned cars on Front St. people fleeing to the ocean and so many lives lost. This could have been avoided.

As a mainlander that moved to Hawaii to work for about 5 years, the level of nepotism, cronyism, and incompetence at some of the higher levels of government is mind boggling, made worse by the complacency and possibly ignorance of the general populace with too much faith in their government. This culture is pervasive into many local businesses. This is so unfortunate as I found it a wonderful place to live with some of the friendliest local people with amazing food and culture.

Thank you for this. I have been hoping and praying that this situation would not be swept under the rug, that the media would remember and dive in headfirst to this and not stop digging!! This is so important, it should be kept in the forefront so that the mistakes made there happen nowhere else and the pople who made thos mistakes are confronted to answer for them.
I am not from the area, I live in Georgia, but I care deeply about what happened to all of those people that day and I really want to know that something is done about it.
Absolutely agree, I'm from Arizona and this is and was heartbreaking. Don't let it die. Media please do what you were intended to do. Find out the truth and reveal those that are responsible, and call for their prosecution

And we can’t even count on the Biden administration to help our United States citizens after a disaster but they send BILLIONS to every other country and NOT our own! We CANNOT afford another term of a Democrat President, plain and simple!
