I feel like this is a semi-biographical sketch about every SNL writer that’s gone on to marry a famous movie star
Wow
Roasting him at every opportunity
All one of them?
Taran Killam (SNL) married Coulby Smolders (not sure of spelling, she was in the Avengers movies and on TV shows). As far as I know, both marriages are happy. Maybe in earlier SNL decades there are more examples?
@@no3namesalikeEmma Stone’s married to an SNL writer.
i'm guessing Sarah Sherman watched The Elephant Man recently...
Knowing her sensibilities, she probably watched that movie as a kid the same way most kids watch Disney movies or anything on Nickelodeon or Cartoon Network: all the time with their parents tolerating it.
This is Dua lipa! Sarah Sherman cannot hold a candle to do a lipa!!!!
@@davidgoosen1633 Dua Lipa isn't the writer😭
@@tictaccandy9217 I don't care
of course she would love The Elephant Man... And just Lynch in general
This was rather sad to watch.
It took me back 20some years when the show went in HUGE for cringe. Every sketch went for the pathos and it just wasn't funny. Sometimes it was downright disturbing.
"I'm tryna show you what this snout do" 😂🐽
This is very surreal. Strange vibe from this sketch.
The skit is basically taking a piss on those with facial differences. I’m positive there are many, MANY people who aren’t going to find this skit either funny or acceptable
@@marybodnar4749 I mean... It's literally not though. It's making fun of an outdated film trope. Like you can hate the sketch and find it unfunny, but I think it's a massive stretch to say that their goal was to make fun of people with facial differences.
@@marybodnar4749how is it doing that?
dua’s acting skills are PHENOMENAL!!
“THATS WHAT HE SAYS TO EVERYONE!!!”

I hope she does more film and TV.
The camera work is incredible! Dua does a great job.
I thought it was scarlet johanson with some more lip filler lol
AND the lighting! Unsung usually more obvious in black and white. Excellent work!
The production value of this skit is next level! 😆🙌🏼
Not a sketch.... it's a film.
I'm always amazed at how beautifully they can produce films in under a week!!
This is dating in 2024
Multiple beautiful women being totally into the obvious worst men because they like their words? Yeah.

That’s dating in every decade since consciousness. With technological tweaks obviously lol
The voices in this sketch are like warm butter on a crumpet. Both Dua and James sound superb
Thank you! I was the production sound mixer for this sketch. I appreciate your kind words and compliment! Struggling to find the comedy.
snl hasn't been funny in a long time
This skit was funny and clever. People aren’t seeing the joke. His unattractive looks which used to at one time repulse women. Are now his number one weapon to attract women. He turned a negative into what he thought was a positive. Another layer is It’s a reverse take on don’t judge a book by its cover. It also points the sad truth about a lot of men being dogs that can’t control their most basic urges and how there are always women out there willing to play along. If you are being offended comedy just because you don’t like the joke perhaps you should shut the Phuk up because people are more offended by you than a stupid skit.

@@jf4313 I'm not saying it's not funny because it's "offensive" or what not in fact there's where i find humor to be funny the most, it just was not funny, snl is garbage now
Despite learning multiple times Dua Lipa has an English accent, it always surprises me when I hear her talk.
Bro I thought this was Emilia Clarke lol
I thought the punch line would be about Dua having the sliiiiiiiightest blemish, like a birth mark on her stomach, and getting dropped for being a freak.
You should be a writer on SNL, because that’s a much better punchline
That would've been WAY more clever!
That sounds funny, but is cliche and punches down, as it centers around beauty. Instead, the sketch challenges the concept of “ugly”. He was ugly not for his looks but because he used and manipulated the woman who genuinely loved him.
Some of Anomalous Man's hookups (visible on his phone) include "Alexis- Hinge", "Amber- Tinder", and "Liza- Sanitarium" 😄
An Elephant Man parody? In this day and age? Color me impressed
Loren definitely asked: why now?
it's funny because it's black and white. get it? black and white. not color.
Definitely a great sketch for Elephant man...
Only 44 years too late.
Its Poor Things meets The Elephant Man.
Disappointing and disrespectful

Even if it was intended to be a parody of the elephant man(great movie), it could have been done with a lot more grace and respect. This is the wrong culture that is circulating in the media. Please remember that we choose what we believe, don’t be fooled by sketches or celebrated individuals that are glamorised on television- they are blatantly mocking a visible disability.

Props for this make up department tonight they killed it this episode.

Dua lipa is doing great job
Not this in 2024…
People are born with facial disability, this just mocks that community :(
She has a fucking snout and crab arm
How? The Anomalous Man has no counterpart in real life. Clearly, the character is actually using the anomaly to play women. The character has a frog tongue and an eyeball on his back (which seemed to "wink" at the video for Cold Heart). It was totally on brand for Sarah Sherman's surreal trademark comedy. I saw references to Twilight Zone and Gabriel Garcia Marquez inspired surreal-fantasy in this clever skit.
Who cares? It’s a joke, the man is clearly not a human or a good person.
2:46 love how you can hear someone in the crowd go “Jesus Christ”
No you can't, it's a laugh track
@@seanhurley9216 These shows are performed live. The video was shown to a live audience. You can hear the audience member say "Jesus Christ" as they pan to Dua and Sherman in the bed.
I’m here because a man with a facial difference spoke about this sketch on tik tok and how devastated it made him someone like him was still the butt of a joke in 2024. Please do better SNL.
I too saw that TT. I follow him and he’s truly such a wonderful person. I don’t understand how this old trope is still funny to ppl. So many suffer and we make jokes at their expense. So disappointed with SNL, I expect better.
Funny.. I saw a video of a man with a facial difference saying he thought it was hilarious and people should lighten up.
“I have a Black friend” energy. Comedy shouldn’t make people who have been othered their entire lives feel bad about themselves. It should make them laugh and lighten their load. Make fun of the privileged all you want, but don’t punch down against people who have been picked on and mocked their entire lives.
@@mikeybinmike I'm not claiming to be friends with the guy who's video I saw. I'm just pointing out that this commenter said they saw a video where a guy was offended, whereas I saw a video where another guy was not offended. Whose opinion is more valid? Idk, that's not for me to say.
How was it making fun of people with facial differences? This joke is more so mocking/satirizing the old-timey movies that were basically "Look at this disgusting freak, but he's an artistic genius so the woman is able to look past her monstrous visage!" In this sketch, it ends with it being revealed that while Peter is a great playwright, he's not some pure and perfect person that needs to be raised up by a benevolent woman. In fact, he's kind of your average cheating a-hole who has no problems attracting women. If anything, this sketch says "Hey, some people look different. Their physical differences don't make them pure, perfect, souls, nor does it make them evil, wicked abominations. They are just normal people and can be nice of dicks just like anyone else."
This feels insensitive
incredibly ableist
Little pig boy may have come from the dirt, but he’s made it a long way since then
Little Pigboy used to be hawt tho😢
Little pig boy seems to have a frog tongue and an eyeball on his back. Is that even normal for a deformed person?
Hollywood is so up their own ass
Using physical disabilities for the sake of "comedy" in 2024...wtf
hahah go cry about it
Thank God they are letting Sarah be weird AF, this was a great sketch.
Honestly not funny especially for those who have facial differences etc.
We thank you
What’s more frightening is you watched this sketch about a man with horns, a hoof, a snout, a lizard tongue, and a blinking eyeball on his back and thought, “They’re making fun of real people.” 😮
Shut up
You’re complaining about something on SNL, it’s not for the sensitive.

Something about punching down on the appearance and never letting up is unsettling to the entire sketch.
All that uncomfortableness for one "Har-har" ahh punchline
They aren't punching down on appearance. The Anomalous Man has no real-life counterpart, he's just a total player. It's a satire of modern dating.
@@hedwigblythe3476 his appearance is the butt of the joke the ENTIRE time. It is doubled down when the "resolution" is that despite being visually unappealing, he is still a terrible person. It is tripled down by whoever thought it was a good idea for him to start catching bugs in his mouth. It is no longer parody when it closely resembles the very real experience of being visually different, which many people are, and they are judged harshly on appearance alone by much of the world that thinks that is ok to do. It is not parody when it is never made "ok" in the sketch that he is a person, just made worse in that he is also ANOTHER "bad" thing, a cheater (yes cheating is bad), so the audience was "right" to be repulsed by him in the first place,
@@elisangale431 Respectfully, I thought he was living his best life. The Victorian women seemed to be the butt of the joke because he is such a player. Also, the absolute absurdity of his persona made it clear that there is no real-life counterpart to the Anomaly. He could have been a minotaur. It still would have been a brilliant satire. It was also so on brand for Sarah Sherman's magical realism. Honestly, it came across like the classic Twilight Zone episodes, as well as Gabriel Garcia Marquez's characters in fiction.
@@hedwigblythe3476 how dare you make fun of the Visibly Different Minotaur! Shameful.
@@janefitch4254 I don't think Hedwig is making fun of anyone, and I can respect their remarks enough not to push further. You on the other hand seem to be here just to antagonize others. I don't think you're mature enough to have a discussion on this topic
Someone put a time stamp on the joke so I can get it
The sketch challenges the concept of “ugly”. He was ugly not for his looks but because he used and manipulated the woman who genuinely loved him. So 3:15 for those half asleep
it’s clearly parodying men who date women who are out of their league and yet still cheat on them. media literacy is an ancient skill it seems
@@JuvianTVthank you for saying this so succinctly. The sketch really could’ve been a funny meme. It was way too long.
Wait, at what point does a sketch become a short film? I'd say about at the 3 minute mark in the tub for this one. Bravo. Bravo, truly.
I don't think the intention of the sketch was to make fun of physical differences, quite the contrary. It shows that there is someone special out there for every person, but this guy was just using his insecurities as a means of stirring compassion in women for the purpose of seducing them. What ended up being truly ugly was his soul.
that is what i said, these people are way too quick to call something dishearting and offensive, without lookin for the message in the skit-
how small their talent is then, if you can't show an idea without offending people.
@@roshidemon please tell me what type of comedy isn’t offensive to some tender heart somewhere.
if the intentions were good they could have used an actor with actual physical differences. And they could have achieved the same message using a maybe less attractive person instead of mocking people who have deformities.
@@MarianaOlin so it’s ok for you to be prejudiced against Dua because she’s attractive? The double standard is why no one can take you seriously. Peter isn’t “visibly different”. He’s fictional. He’s not possible in real life. No, replacing him with a real person is 100% not the answer. Were you this offended by Beauty and the Beast?
I love how you can immediately clock when a sketch is written by Sarah
A bit fucked up they’re literally mocking people that have facial differences..?
Very fucked up
And all these weird dorks praising the skit in the comments as if it’s some genius comedy breakthrough, childish doesn’t even begin to describe it.
Calm down, its a parody of the elephant man.
How does it mock people with facial differences? She treats him with love and respect. Isn't that what we all should strive for?
@@stefanpereira9367 are you joking? i cannot tell
I swear, this exists in the same yet parallel universe as Poor Things.
It is hard to convey how offensive this sketch is to disfigured people (1% of the world's population).
Disfigured people are often portrayed in the media as being evil, pathetic or unlovable. These portrayals do profound damage to a community which already contends with stigma, harassment, bullying and hate crimes.
In this recent sketch, the Anomalous Man is seen as
1) isolated, unloved, with horrific self-esteem,
2) the woman who loves him is seen as heroic for doing so.
3) His appearance is relentlessly mocked
4) The fact that he is sexually active is the big joke.
I know SNL can do better. SNL is a vaunted show, gracing our country with many laughs over the decades. But this sketch did not do SNL credit.
We need to educate people about prejudice toward disfigured people, and the media's role in perpetuating this stigma. To learn more, please watch: ua-cam.com/video/zD9KhXQOED8/v-deo.html
It's more offensive to fans of comedy.

The writing. The acting. The costumes. The production. Perfect.
is it just me or is the punchline being that a person with a visible disability is a bad person and also somehow inexplicably able to find love weird as hell??? like maybe it’s not that deep but do we really want to be putting more media making disabled people the butt of the joke??
i think this is about ugly people but no matter what, your point is still valid. this is an extremely bizarre sketch. it wasn’t funny, it wasn’t unique. in fact, besides weekend update, dua lipa’s whole episode was just weird. the host picks the sketches. we can call it her fault, probably. very dumb and not in a way to successfully achieve comic relief.
@@EliTheMac - You say the "host picks the sketches" as if Lorne has nothing to do with it.
You are very much mistaken. The host has some input, but it's Lorne's decision.
I think the message is that a disfigured man is just a man.
You are ridiculous!!!!!!
This is an allegory for women not to drop their standards when finding love with a less than perfect man, because elevating that man's ego and self worth will only back fire and turn him into a womanizing 'pig'.

I came to watch this yesterday (Tuesday) because I saw a reel about how a new SNL skit with Dua Lipa was damaging to the visible difference community. It was uncomfortable to watch. And the comments of people praising it both here and on instagram, not realising, or understanding the negative impact it has on the visible difference community... This has been going on for far too long. When will it stop. @@claraclonk mmm no…it’s unfortunate that the Visible Difference Community chose Peter as their mascot without getting to know him. They really shouldn’t judge a book by its cover though. Dua’s character was so blindly infatuated with him as an artist that she missed the con: he’s a narcissistic scrub 😂. He writes alluring adaptations of his life of woe as a lonely broken man shut off from the world. Trap set and snap. She ignores all the flags, like him literally bringing nothing to the table but a briefcase of dust, his horrific table manners, his THIRD EYE FFS. You get it yet? He’s weaseled his way into a cushy life and can’t even return the favor with faithfulness. All he brings her is down, and like the classic conman, he’s got multiple backups available just in case she catches on, he simply slides into the arms of another woman. Even with both women kicking him to the curb, they simply must agree in the end that he’s just such a gifted playwright…
This skit is getting shredded on TikTok.
this edgar alan poe biography is pretty accurate
I don’t understand the controversy of this sketch, I understand that making fun of somebody with differences is bad but it was more about society (in like late 1800s) causing him to be an outcast. They also go surrealist with the crab claw, eye on the back, and him eating a fly with a frog tongue. Again, I’m not a fan of punching down but imo it feels fake to the point of it not being offensive but idk

Dua's acting on this one is amazing!
Is this the Elephant Man spoof?
Looks like it, and one that's been a long time coming too. You see, back in the early 1980s when Jean Doumanian was in charge of the show, they did a mashup spoof of "The Elephant Man" and "Ordinary People". Like most Jean Doumanian sketches, it was not as funny as the idea suggested because nothing was done to make it funny. Then ABC Fridays did their version called The Elephant Joke Man, where The Elephant Man is hated because he tells lame jokes (pretty sure "elephant jokes" are what we call "dad jokes" now: just corny one-liners that are either groanworthy or funny in a family-friendly way). Now that one was good, but it wasn't that sprawling, ambitious sketch that Fridays normally does to prove that they're better than SNL at the time. This sketch makes up for both those shortcomings.
