Thanks, it's great to hear from Epke and get such an in-depth look at the training of an Olympic gymnast, remember to subscribe to the Olympic UA-cam channel for more great videos everyday!

Yes he is! But his speciallity is the high bar, I have seen him training and competing other events. But considering how good he is in HB by now, he's not that young(cause the younger you are, the more wear and tear your body can tolerate), and he's also a student so he chosse to train a lit bit less, but still that amount of training is way impressive for any non high performance athlete.
Felipe Montoya How OLD is this Kid ? He looks young very young is he 19-20 or something ? His body is ripped very strong physical the dedication 4 hours a day I think is way too plenty if he is on his mid or late 20's, Not everybody has the same body capabilities to recover some people takes more time to recover from more wear and tear, some they recover real fast. But for someone like me 31, 4 hours would be my max on total training for a day for 6 days a week. I have to give plenty of rest time too for my too cus that's the only time your body starts to repair and heal. some people they sleep 5-6 hours of course if they are young more quickly recovery but for the 30's club Us even if we have a clean decent nutrition and good time working gymnastics still I have to give a good 8-9 hours of sleep to my body to rest even if I'm not feeling sleepy, I put a slow music close my eyes and just lay down on the bed. Having your eyes close and laying down your body starts to repair healing as you were sleeping.
Oh Epke, DON'T internally rotate that hip joint during your flexiibility training!!! (the "hurdle" position while sitting on the floor) -- It really stretches (in a BAD way) the medial knee ligaments. No no no!
The same could be said about a lot of weight lifters, weights aren't bad and calisthenics isn't childish. They're just different ways to train, get over it
+Block-man Zen There might be gymnasts who do more hours. He says it himself, that's what he can do without injuring himself. That is something they always think about, their own body. On top of that, he studies medicine, doing interns now, which also take up a lot of time.
What.... do you not know who Epke is? He's basically the number 1 guy on highbar in the world right now. Despite the slip he had in Rio, I would still say he's definitely in the top 3 best, if not THE best, highbar gymnasts.
OP is right. gymnastics stunts your growth. Considering he is from NE where most guys are quite tall, it is not wrong to assume that he could have been 6'0" if he hadn't done gymnastics. He is 5'8" now with all that gymnastics training.
This guy is 27....I LITERALLY thought he was 17 when I first saw him...the power of fitness and dedication wow!!!

Top gymnast, gold medal winner, doctor and very good guitar player.
this guy is a full time gymnast 4 hours a day 6 days a week so much dedication to the sport #respect.
Most Elite American girls train 7 hours a day, 6 days a week...
***** but he is also training to be a surgeon
good for him, that must be hard
not really, they are equally hard, just in comparison Men do more difficult skills.
&.. while practicing his gymnastics... he studied medicine & became a full fledged Dr. In 2018. Wow!
And let's not forget about the fact that you usually have to start training at a VERY young age. I learned that the hard way in figure skating.
He won high bar at 2012 olympics so good on high bar
One of my favorites! Apart from Tomas Gonzalez of course.
Great gymnast!

Vincent Vin I want to know too. I can do like 12 tops...
+Vincent Vin All of them.
Chuck is in trouble
+Vincent Vin I cant speak for this Epke, but the typical gymnast can do at least 30. Definitely isn't something that is specifically trained though
ok
I remember me and my best friend used to pretend he was our father when we were young lmao
it's funny because compared with some other gymnasts, he doesn't train that much.
Yes he is! But his speciallity is the high bar, I have seen him training and competing other events. no, he's about 25, but yes the younger ones are the ones that train more because they aim for all around
Felipe Montoya He is actually 28. Will be 29 in April 2015
The Best the king barras.
ziek ik ben ook turner ik ben fan van je🤗🤗💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
he's pretty cute imo

deenibeeniable Really!! You are giving a gold medallist advises!!?? Hahaha! How funny is that!!??
Israel Joya he/she is not wrong though😓
I think Epke knows what to do. Not only is he an Olympic medal winner but he's also a medical doctor.
@Jurgen Chen Epke is a medical doctor though...
0:23 hmmmmmmm
He is handsome 😍
0:24 😉 🙌🏼
Nasya Soraya Girl you know I rewinded that 😉
he lifts weights yet calisthenics only people say weights are bad for you.
The same could be said about a lot of weight lifters, weights aren't bad and calisthenics isn't childish. They're just different ways to train, get over it
Calisthenics people aren't very knowledgeable about anything related to real sport or fitness. Forgive them.
wowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Greetings from Mexico
Like als je nl bent
giving him a handshake would not be a good idea if he wants to give a strong handshake
I'm surprised how typical the training is for a gymnast. 4 hours is pretty average even at lvl 8 or 9... but he does only do 2 events
+Block-man Zen There might be gymnasts who do more hours. He says it himself, that's what he can do without injuring himself. That is something they always think about, their own body. On top of that, he studies medicine, doing interns now, which also take up a lot of time.

jordan jovtchev said he was 8-14 hours a day there... in the gym.. so if this guy wants to be someone, he better act accordingly
What.... do you not know who Epke is? He's basically the number 1 guy on highbar in the world right now. Despite the slip he had in Rio, I would still say he's definitely in the top 3 best, if not THE best, highbar gymnasts.
Making love is also very important for complete health 💪
He reminds me of Logan Paul
he cute.. too bad gymastic stunt his growth because it looks like he should be at least 6" taller.
that don`t make no sense
Why he should?
OP is right. gymnastics stunts your growth. Considering he is from NE where most guys are quite tall, it is not wrong to assume that he could have been 6'0" if he hadn't done gymnastics. He is 5'8" now with all that gymnastics training.
there are short people in all countries. there are tall people in al countries as well.
tree bear How on earth would gymnastics stunt your growth?
