Fish for gas- the challenge for Blanchisseuse fishermen.mp4

In November 2011, 11 community members from Blanchisseuse participated in an exercise to document the challenges in the fishing industry in their community. Blanchisseuse is a small fishing village located on the north coast of Trinidad (Trinidad and Tobago).
The participants conducted a problem analysis to understand the challenges, created a storyboard, captured the video on the Motorola Defy smartphone provided by BG Trinidad and Tobago, edited the video with technical assistance from the University of the West Indies mFisheries Team and provided the music for the video. The participatory video was used to share the challenges of the Blanchisseuse fishing industry with decision-makers in Trinidad and Tobago in a meeting held on November 30, 2011.
The small demonstration project was funded by the International Development and Research Centre (IDRC). Raynaldo Phillips of the Forestry Division also offered advice on capturing videos. The project was implemented by CANARI and the UWI mFisheries Team.

The fishers of Blanchisseuse have used the video to get support. Ministry of Energy and Energy Affairs is establishing a gas pump solely for the fishers in the community. As a short term solution, a private supplier has donated ice storage and sells ice to the Association that is then sold to the fishers and others in the community. Others offered equipment (e.g. winch, printer). Thanks to all who viewed the video and supported the Association. Keep viewing for updates.

Blanchisseuse being one of the earliest of our settlements n still very beautiful is also home to some of the most couragerous settlers n now their sons n daughters who deserve better, dis iz the 20th century plse help the ppl establish themselves as lng as it wnt b of any danger to them a gas station cn also house an ice storage facility. These r nt the dys wen mail came on Thursdays as the coastal steamer passed by on it's way to Toco! HELP........

The government only understands when there is a protest..maby you guys can take your fish to another fish bay and sell to other venders ..invest in ice machine....van to go for gas COME TOGETHER AS ONE make it happen ..stand for you all selves you guys could do it❤

We at North Coast Ice located in Maracas Bay have acknowledged the problem and will assist with subsidized pricing set with the fishermen in mind as well as capital support by means of a mid-sized cold storage for ice which will be delivered to the fishing depot next week.

The people of Blanchisseuse feel like the forgotten ones in the society, i feel its because of our laidback peacefull loving nature. We dont burn tyres, we dont block the roads, we have never seen paved roads, its always patches. if someone opens an ice factory to supply las cuevas, blanchicheusse and maracas fishermen , they will buy the ice because it ill be cheaper and also that ice factory owner will make a whol ton of money

Fishermen take your gas, bait, oil, ice etc, and go out , catch fish.Then give the fish to a friend, on the high sea. Comes in port, and tell the buyers ,who ice gas etc they took to go out, "we make paylast, while there friend sell the fish for them to another vendor.they then collect from the friend the moneies.

Buy all yuh own van go buy yuh gas... Stop depending on government.. All yuh working fish so much years and cant invest in a van.. But all yuh could drink rum every day and smoke.. If i was that vendor i leave all yuh with All that fish..
