My Dad is a huge Coen bros fan, and I'm almost 50 and love 80s and 90s neo noir thriller films but somehow never saw this and/or any Coen bros films until I saw Blood Simple tonight. I enjoyed it.

I saw Blood Simple when it was brand new in the theatre . It was , like Blue Velvet - a BREATH of FRESH AIR during the time of buddy-cop comedies , slasher movies and teenage movies with the Brat Pack. Wow ! Packs a punch.

Blood Simple is one of the best movies of all time. Certainly the best directorial film debut of the 80s, IMHO.

I so wish I had gotten to see Blood Simple when it was first released. These critics knew they were seeing something special, and I hope I would have too.

Blood Simple is still the Coens’ best movie.

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen Blood Simple, but the thing that I remembered most was it seemed like every character knew something nobody else did, and also thought they knew something else that nobody else did, but were wrong. Basically, the movie was some dark farce only the Coens could pull off.

Exactly. Everybody was operating on faulty thinking or incomplete information, resulting in a number rueful twists of fate.

I loved Blood Simple but I have to say that I didn't fully understand it until I had seen it a few times. The Coen Brothers have done a ton of great films but Blood Simple was so convoluted and so different from anything else that I had seen that it has a special place for me in their catalog.

i was 13 in 85, i remember watching these films A LOT when they were on cable. i always liked "Vision Quest" , i remember it actually had a lot of publicity because Madonna had a small cameo in it.
man Gene was almost furious over "Turk 182" LOL. i have not seen it since then and i am much older now so i dont know what i would think if i watched now, but i watched it several times back then and enjoyed it, i remember watching a few times with my father and uncle and they enjoyed it too. not saying it was a masterpiece and i dont think any of us were thinking it was a believable film but we still enjoyed the goofy fun of it.
Mischief" did i mention i was 13? yeah i liked Mischief A LOT! LOL. i think there were a few obvious reasons a 13 year old boy liked that film, but also in a weird way because i was growing up in that time period. all those 50s and 60s nostalgia type films of the 70s and 80s have always been favorites of mine, so i feel nostalgia for the 70s and 80s i grew up in, but i also feel a weird rose colored glasses sort of nostalgia for the 50s and 60s as well. also it had Catherine Mary Stewart in it who i had a huge crush on at the time because of the film "Night Of The Comet" which i absolutely loved. there were several of these 50s turning into 60s films made at that time which was kind of weird, because it would seem they were made for that nostalgia factor of people that would have been in their 40s at the time, but clearly they were made for a teenage audience. there were a lot of these films but two i remember really liking around this time were this one "Mischief" and "The In Crowd", something about those two always reminded me of each other. also a lot of them had titles that were song names such as "The In Crowd". it was a goofy teen sex comedy, but i also think it had a little more actual heart to it and some better characters,

The thing I like most about Blood Simple is how everything revolves around the Frances McDormand character but she's not in on any of it. There are several people who think they know everything but only know part of it. Everything everybody does is for or on account of Frances McDormand but she doesn't know anything.

Mischief was a greatly underrated 80's teen comedy. With the immortal Kelly Preston Absolutely beautiful. 💯 #RIP.

I never understood why critics drew so many comparisons between Mischief and Porkys. Mischief was a more of an exercise in social realism, whereas Porkys was an uproarious and borderline misogynistic wish fulfillment picture about the lasciviousness of teenage boys. Mischief was much more grounded and subdued by comparison, which is probably the reason why it wasn’t nearly as successful as Porkys. That said, I think the specific audience it was intended for are quite attuned to its merits. I’m a big fan of the film myself.
On a lighter note, Kelly Preston indeed never looked better. What a loss her passing was.

Is amazing but yes, Blood Simple was only the first step of a very long career. Stylish, bloody, intense story in the tradition of the classic noir where, and that's the best thing of it, any character discover what the Hell happens at any moment 👏🏻

This is funny, I actually liked Turk 182! It wasn't the best but it wasn't as bad as they say. I was already a Robert Urich fan from Ice Pirates. He was a great actor. I even adopted the prank graffiti idea at school where I used to write "Turk 182" in class secretly on peoples' papers or homework as they were passed out, or on their book covers when they weren't looking, with a red pen. Nobody could figure it out, which was funny to me. Eventually a girl, Alice caught me (only because she saw me with a red pen) and that took away the fun so I stopped. But it kinda broke the ice between us and we started dating so all was great. Also - Michief is one of my favorites from 1985! These guys got it all wrong! It's very funny and sweet. I must also admit that as a pubescent sixth grade boy at the time, I wore out that pause button right after the Platters sing their closing verse in "My Prayer": "at the end of...My-aye prayer!". Yes I have that memorized precisely - if you know why, you know what I'm saying. The film's depiction of the late 50s was just as good as if not better than what we saw in 1985's Back To the Future, in my opinion. Kelly Preston, Catherine Mary Stewart, and Jamie Gertz were all my early celebrity crushes and they are all wonderful in Mischief. Joe Bob says check it out.

Blood Simple-don't remember it. Turk 182 was OK donno why the venom they're wasting on it. Mischief another Porky's wannabe. Meh. Visionquest somehow I missed that. Caught a bit of it once, you know what it is 100% just from seeing the ingredients.
