The Coen Brothers are truly two of the most outstanding, versatile and highly talented filmmakers to grace cinema with their films!

Love it how they disregard film theory and stick to the "its about making movies and saying something rather than nothing" posture. Thank you for uploading this interview

This is, by a loooong mile, the best interview with the Coens I've ever seen. Eggers doesn't ask banal questions or interrupt them (looking at you, Charlie Rose), they actually seem happy to be there, all three manage to make each other laugh, and they comprehensively cover the entire production. Dave Eggers should do another one of these next time Criterion puts out a Coens film.

Speaking of which, Buster Scruggs needs the Criterion treatment.

Yes! It's amazing how both brothers seem to be enjoying the interview and not interrupting should be the first requirement of any interviewer.

@TheBornnaked it's based on the "book of Jobe" from the Hebrew Bible. I think it's also a satire of Rabbinical Judaism. I'm not saying you can't appreciate the movie if your not Jewish but it helps.

Saw Blood Simple as a double feature in downtown Denver with The Elephant Man. Two classic films by three classic writer/directors. I absolutely fell in love with both the Coen brothers and David Lynch that. I was on a day day with someone that did not get either films. I knew that person would never be right for me. Blood Simple is what film is and has always been to me. It was a Hitchcock film that did all Hitchcock films other than maybe Psycho. But Blood Simple is just as good as Hitchcock's Psycho. The Coen brother's earliest works were by far their best. I do hope they return to that before exiting this world.
Blood Simple also made me life long lovers of the beyond earthly M. Emmett Walsh and Francis McDormand. I just never had time for people that did not have the psychological ability to appreciate Blood Simple. So many elements of this film were original and brilliant.

Blood Simple was a brilliant example of how to make a great film on such a tight budget. I loved it. I'm a Brit who loves noir/neo-noir and only the Americans can do this so well. Blood Simple is a classic. It's so James M Cain or perhaps Jim Thompson. Probably more Jim Thompson, to be honest.

The Coen Brothers kinda remind me of one of their favorite actors John Turturro. Wes Andersen kinda remind me of two of his favorite actors Luke and Owen Wilson, personality-vise. Maybe director/writers like to hire actors that are similar to themselves.

this emphasizes further the adage of how much of the movie is done in casting and ill add the importance of casting (as they say the great Carter Burwell auditioned his music) all the folks on set. I know the Coens even care about the crew and like most great consistent filmmakers work with the same people as much as possible from actors to the music (i mean what collaboration can rank with Carter Burwell in EVERY Coen Bros movie and later teaming with T Bone Burnett...answer is very few to none) and im sure many other of the crew above and below the line..... the team!

to my point YT has me peekng at other c lips of the Coens and in one for lebwoskie ethan calls them lazy for not only casting the same peoople but using the same crew....joel adds we dont have to memorize more phoen numbers.....who knows if they even know that humility is a joking response to filmmaking 101 rule...using the same folks is overall a great idea lol

The worst line in the Coens cannon is when the dude is saying that the nihilists are going to cut off his Johnson, and the dude says something like I need my Johnson, and Donny says, why do you need that dude? Not even Donny would be that naive or stupid. It's the only line that I think the Coens should have rewritten or at least left out

Blood Simple is a very good movie but the boyfriend was so stupid that it became stressful to watch. If you find a dead body and that body was shot don’t pick up the Gun that.shot him and put the body in your car. Leave, call the police or bring him to a hospital because any other option us a bad one.
