    The cruise control button is a British road sign symbol to denote a motorway/freeway!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    I like how they put the PRNDL indicator on either side of the shifter, so they could do either right- or left-hand drive and same some bucks but not having to modify the shifter.

    Most people who buy these usually swap an LS engine in them. That results in more power and better reliability (Land Rover reliability has never been excellent).

      My wife wanted it so we got it mostly because it runs great and is clean with lowish miles.

      Even though this Land Rover Discovery series 1 is low on check even by today's standards I still feel like it looks cool yes it's not as modern yes it doesn't have the latest and greatest but I still love it!@@tedfreakinray

      @Parrotdise290 currently 9 haha. Also 2 Harleys, camper, boat, 3 utility trailers, golcart. I pick up pretty terrible cars and either scrap em or send them off in tough truck competitions,trailer races, demo Derbies. Or I get bored with em and sell/ trade for the next thing. I still have two orginal vehicles that were reviewed. The other 15 or so are long gone lol. But I always let zack know and give him the opportunity to review them if he wants too.

    I had this vehicle from 1999-2002. I loved it so much. Until I didn’t. It was a great road trip vehicle. Great in snow and mud and dirt. It was tankish. And then when the breakdowns started they didn’t stop for a yr and a half. When I was done and bought a pickup Now I’m in a 4Runner-what this vehicle wanted to be. I learned first hand ‘u want to get there take a Land Rover- want to get back take a Land Cruiser. Or 4runner if u can’t afford an LC
    The inside rear handle to open the rear is because some trims had jump seats in the cargo area-very cool for kids

    So, cool story. My high-school had an auto program that was actually a level 1 Land rover tech training course. They covered all the basic stuff. Oil, brakes, suspension, axels, etc. They actually had a Disco 1 (this was pre 9/11) on loan from land rover and they had a Range rover with all the body panels removed so all the wiring was exposed. At the end of the course you were a "Certified Level 1 tech" for whatever that was worth. It was a cool program for a 16 year old . They had a similar program for Honda as well.

    My next door neighbor has a discovery ii that’s been parked outside for about 3 years. I’m pretty sure something is wrong with it lol.
    Funny story: Just last week my friend was driving me home, he saw the Land Rover and said his dad had wanted one. My Mom asked the neighbors wife if they wanted to sell it. She said no and they were gonna get it restored but it literally just sits there.

    4:38 I don't think I've ever seen an automatic transmission console shifter with the positions labeled on BOTH sides of the shifter! I guess if you're driving your Land Rover Discovery, your passenger can see what gear you're in.
    (I think I just turned into Doug Demuro for a second LOL)

    Land Rover calling the engine the "4.0" when it was really a 3.9 liter just makes me think of Ford calling their 302 cubic inch V8 the "5.0" when it was really 4.9 liters! (which I believe Ford did to differentiate it from their also-iconic 4.9l 300 cu in straight six)

    What defines the difference between series one and series two? I thought series one was never sold in the us, and thus, this is a series two?

    • @secpac58chichi
      @secpac58chichi 3 місяці тому

      Yes the first Disco released ROW was in 1990 and it has a different grille and interior - 1994 NAS was freshened a bit but essentially the same vehicle and both are usually referred to as a D1 - when LR updated in 1998/99 to the D2 there were considerable changes made

      Easy way to tell a series 1 from a series 2 is the taillights. 1 had them mounted down low and 2 had them mount up high

      Just bought a 96 tonight. Commute is a mile and a half maybe. It's the first time I haven't had to take the mileage into account when buying a car. It's exciting haha.

    My mother in law had a 89 Oldsmobile Nightey Eight and it had Dual Climate Control, SO not a big deal for a 98 having it.

    These are still cool-looking SUVs. Shame about the reliability, though. It's nice to see one still roving the land. I always liked the redundant lights in the back bumper that worked depending on the year or whatever the factory was feeling like that day.
    Land Rover should have kept this design instead of going with the generic Range Rover-ish design the current Discovery is. The stepped roof and safari windows were iconic. The current Defender is what the Discovery should be and the Ineos Grenadier is what the current Defender should be.

    • @secpac58chichi
      @secpac58chichi 3 місяці тому

      the bumper lights are referred to as 'trailer' lights and were required if pulling a trailer as the higher lights could have been obscured by the trailer

    Back when Land Rovers were actually meant to roam the Earth and not the pavement.

    • @damilolaakanni

      Considering that this was the same year that they released the Freelander, and the fact that they also made the P38 Range Rover which had become a cushion on wheels that could do offroad, I quite disagree. The only LR SUVs that still had that "rugged" feeling were this (the Discovery I specifically) and the Defender.

      You drive a Land Rover if you want to go into the wilderness. You drive a Land Cruiser if you want to come back.
