    At the age of 23, I started my own business. I was fresh out of college and got the job I thought I always wanted...then realized I hated the job. I worked my own business from 9am-6pm and my job from 7pm-2am. I got used to my hectic schedule and after working like this for 5 years and being frugal...I was debt free. During that 5 yr period I lived on a tight budget, I bought my clothing second hand, I made my own laundry soap, I did anything and everything to help me reach my goal. I'm now 40 years old, and because of my sacrifices I built my home and paid for it in cash, I bought my escalade and was able to write the check for it right out of my account. You CAN do it! But you have to have discipline and make sacrifices.

      Yes well done, I still work a regular job. But Im a chef and love what I do, and its close to my home so I have no travel expense. The words of wisdom I got from my father 32 years ago when I started working have served me well. He said before you do ANYTHING, try to save at least 6 months living money. So that if the rug is pulled from under you. You dont have to go into immediate panic mode. And you have that cushion.
      32 years later I have enough money in the bank to live for more than 7 years without a job. And my house is almost payed for. The main problem with especially Americans right now is they dont save enough. A recent survey showed that around 62% of Americans dont even have $1000 in savings to fall back on. Thats truly disturbing. I know someone my age 52. Who doesnt even have $1000 saved. And still rents. And they have no other assets or investments. This is not good at all. Alot of people dont think about the future. They live above their means paycheck to paycheck. This thinking needs to change badly.

    I see some people on here don't appreciate your advice but honestly as simple as your advice might sound, it's just pure wisdom. I quit my job and really tried to figure something out quickly and even got a course etc trying to figure out how to make money online but the truth is by the time you even come close to scratching the surface if how it is possible your bills start to pile up and you have no choice but return to a 9-5 IG your a responsible person and trust me I wanted to be reckless and pray for a miracle but I have a wife and daughter so I can't take that risk unlike a single person, for now it's just back to the drawing board and hopefully while I'm working I can figure something to quit for good and live on my own terms.

      Dario , you missed the point at the start , 1/ what would your dream job think hard and write it down 2/ plan and save carefully and work hard to reach that goal . To reach that goal you have to have faith in yourself and courage to see it through . Research what you want to do , read as much as you can and hang with people who do your dream job , they will rub off on you . Reduce your living costs , go vegan , shop second hand , ride a bicycle , home cook ect. There is always help for those who genuinely need it and in turn you help others . The worm will turn , trust me . Good luck !

    I fully agree about saving all you can from your current job. Kick all expensive habits. I would suggest saving up 3 years worth of income before quitting. 6-12 months is simply not enough in this economy.

    • @fender1000100
      @fender1000100 8 років тому +2

      +Ken Pan,
      That would be ideal, but as 62% of Americans dont even have $1000 in savings. Its not likely many could do that. One solid years worth of income would be more realistic and achievable. Depending on your personal requirements. You have to remember some people need as much as $5000 to get through a month. While others can get by with $2000 or less...

    • @fractalzoomgoggles
      @fractalzoomgoggles 8 років тому +4

      Agreed...even 3 yrs IMO is the bare minimum. Over the period of 3 yrs, you're 3 yrs older and life changes fast - things you never thought would happen can happen

    • @duxmealux281
      @duxmealux281 7 років тому +2

      lol you guys are too cautious, I had about 3 months buffer when i quit, If you can make enough to cover rent and a bit of food in your side business its enough to quit and double down.

    • @fender1000100
      @fender1000100 7 років тому

      dux mea lux
      3 months isnt sufficient. That time can whizz by. 12 months is the minimum. It gives you alot of breathing space. Instead of being in a panic.
      12 to 18 months is the ideal cushion. 3 years is nice but it would take some people 6 years to save 3 years living money. Thats what people arent considering.

    I did what this bloke did and he's pretty much right on the money , couldn't imagine going back to working to make someone else rich . I did that for 35 years but better late than never , wish I'd broken free sooner and did it as soon as I left school , boy is it liberating ! The only thing I'd add to this journey would be to give back to society eg volunteering , give blood , helping someone less fortunate ect .I liken this step going from employee to owner of your own business like walking against the flow of a stream then slowly turning around and without much effort the flow takes you in its current and you float along easily enjoying the ride .

    This is really hard to do when you’re a single parent ,dread your job, work insane hours that make you so burned out that you don’t have time to exit correctly nor save bc you don’t have outside help ie child support, a growing kid that needs things to live like clothes, food, a roof over our heads, etc...time is so precious and I’m literally mentally and physically exhausted that when I do have a day off all I can do is 😴 instead of manifesting the desires I want for us. It’s exhausting! I wish I could work a normal 9 to 5 job instead of one day I’m working till midnight and the next have to be there at 5 am in the morning. Also, when it’s manual labor work makes it that much more strenuous on my body and mind.😥😴

    This video is the first one I have seen in so long... that is simple (don't get that confused with easy), doable and best of all... MAKES SENSE. As much as I am a sensible and reasonable person when it comes to working/making a living... every time I began with this type of journey, something came along and stole my heart/soul/passion... whatever, my wheels began to spin, I lost traction/direction and there I was... up to my axles in defeat. I am ready to do this again and the path to this day was filled with signposts and hints as to what was to come. I will be damned if I let these cowards and naysayers and all the rest of the wannabes call the shots. Most of their shots are directed toward their own feet and they aim well! Doing it and starting now. Thats all.

    I didn't quit my job but ended a work contract 6 months ago. Instead of going to the next employment opportunity, I decided to rest for a few months until I figured out what I'm gonna next with my life. Which is unlike me because I usually have another job in line. I travel a bit, spend my time in my hometown and going back to the life that I left when I went overseas for a few years (the job contracts).
    The best immediate advice I can give to people who wanna quit a job is first: HAVING AN AMPLE SUPPLY OF MONEY and sorting out their finances first hand. I am single with no commitments. I paid all my debts and have no monthly payments other than my phone and internet (and the money I used to go out). Financial wise, I did not touch my investment savings because I have set aside money specifically for my 'usual' expenses. No big purchases such as new mobile phones - which I will only dabble in when I got back into employment. I am not strapped for cash, but I am not leading a life of luxury either. It really helps during the months when the usual steady monthly income came to a stop. You need money to function, but it can be controlled. Having no commitments helps a lot.
    The second advice I can offer is that: sometimes ONE NEED TO STEP AWAY AND RETHINK ABOUT WHAT MATTERS IN LIFE and how work gonna fit in. If you have the money, I don't say it is a bad thing not to have another job in line immediately. Take a few months to rest and explore new social activities that one did not get to do before. Sometimes going straight ahead to a new job that is awaiting can be a bad thing because you may see it as an EXCUSE to leave the current job. What ever issues you have with your job may as well manifest with your next one (or even got worse).

  • @lryuzaki1192
    @lryuzaki1192 7 років тому

    Really good video. Jist of what I got:
    Don't quit your job blindly. Have a plan and have already a source of good source of steady income before you quit. Save up a good amount as emergency rations in case something goes wrong. Work hard for each source of income every day. One job ends another begins. Only use your money for necessities.
    As much as you want to tell those above you at your job of what you really think of them, don't. Don't burn bridges and instead, quit with class when you're ready to. If you unfortunately have to go back to that job they might consider rehiring you if it came down to that.

    I can confirm that thing about the 9-5 people spending lots of time 'not working', I did so myself for a long time, like being on UA-cam whenever the boss was not around. I just worked with a team where the most experienced girl would spend most of her day on either social media or talking to other friends (also at work themselves) on the phone. She was even running her side business from the office as well.

    I'll share my own experience, I started working in a bank while I was studying the university ( Age 20 ), I was always very dedicated and something in my personality helped me a lot with sales and started I growing in the company, leaving late made me stop going to university, but I kept growing until in 5 years I was a Bank director ( Branch manager ) in one of the biggest banks in Mexico... but I was unhappy, feelling like a slave and like wasting my existance just living for work, at that point I tried to quit several times, to start several bussines on my own but faild all of them, then I started investing in bulls for meat ( My father has a farm and we lived from it always ) I had 30 of them when I decided to quit but the reality is that they were not giving me any money and I quit my job after 8 years and a new morgage... just to crash and learn like wise man in just one year and the half, tried several other things and started making creams and soaps, had to search for a job in a hurry with enough money to survive till the first payment.... This video is so true to life, I've worked 8 months as Bank director in another bank and I had something just clear in my mind "I didn't want to grow old in an office" I came back to work knowing that if I wanted to leave this I had to do it in a smart way, invest in me ( learning ) and saving all the possible money, during this time my wife and I started not going anywhere, not buying clothes, not buying furniture for the house and investing all the money we had in growing our small soap and creams bussines... I was pushed from my family saying you need to go out somewhere, buy clothes for your wife, buy a new car... I just have it clear is a time of invesstment and later our bussines will give us more without any problem, this last friday I did quit my job again, but not in the same way before, I'll still work a month and the half, in the first job I just didnt show up anymore... I have savings for 6 months and my bussines grew during this year of existance giving more money than my actual job monthly, now the bussines needs me and I have a base to keep growing it together with other 2 incomes that I've created during this time, life is uncertain and maybe Im wrong again but I wont allow myself to even doubt it for a second I will succed! My advice; follow this tips couse they're the total true and search for your dreams as if there is no other way if you really follow this tips I'd add one more ¨Burn all the fkn bridges and quit with no posibility to go back, it will give you an extra push¨
    Buena suerte amigos!

Because they never recognize my work performance, be complain almost everydays, really annoying.

    This is what I am doing now. Took a while to get all the steps going and having problems saving money but working every free second on my art. I simply dont want to do anything else and a lot of people are going to hate me for this. I just cant help it I need to get out of the corporate office job. I love my job but it takes up far too much time on stuff I dont care about and its gone beyond needing money at this stage. I need to do my own thing. This is a great vid by the way. your logic is very sound.

      I started watching this video every couple days, in December. Every day that I go sit down in the office, I'm dying a little more, there is no choice about this. I need to escape. I now have enough money saved to survive 6 months, but the "goal" part, I'm struggling with. When you go for "art", it can be a rough gig because it's a somewhat nondescript goal. Make videos? Sell stuff on Etsy? Make an online store? Live off Patreon? You will be encouraged by some art sales, but it's tough to make that consistent, sustainable. Art can be rough, as opposed to, for instance the Affiliate Marketing Escape Hatch that Malan found. Today, I called in sick. I started with Malan coffee cheers, and I'm taking all my different artistic half-done's, and trying to form a clear goal. Good luck, I hope that I eventually see you on here with a success story

    You make really good points, but I think one of the biggest issues a lot of people have is that they can't create a successful side-hustle while working in their full-time position because that job sucks up just about all the time and completely kills any momentum you would need to create something profitable. In Corporate America especially, a lot of jobs will suck your energy dry by making you work late throughout the night and even over the weekend, so flat out quitting is the only option unless you're willing to give up any free time you have AND not sleep for days on end. I do agree you need savings, and cashing out your 401k is your best bet even if you do take a tax penalty. It will be well worth it in the long run.

    Forget having a plan first before quitting a job. That's bull. Just do it. Just quit. The peace of mind that comes one second after quitting is supreme. Things will work out. Just have faith in oneself. And the sooner, the better. Why waste time? We only have so much of it in life.

    What you said about quitting your job and trying to get one after is true. I made that mistake twice. After I made my 260day plan I actually ended quitting the corporate world for good doing affiliate marketing aswell. I'm only 20 turning 21 this year. During that time of struggle I wanted to join the military because I felt like I had know where to go. Good luck to everyone .

I was really dreaming about the day I would quit, and what fun it would've been to send that 'mass email', but you re-enforced the importance of not burning your bridges. Thanks, again for sharing. I believe a better plan is make sure every day you're improving yourself as a human being, reading, learning everything you can to become someone with skills and abilities that the average person doesnt have and then from there networking and connecting with likeminded people which are called " joint ventures " and create something people will pay you for either a product or service and SELL, SELL, SELL like you never have before. The thing is people quit and lay in bed on UA-cam all day STOP and go get out and talk to people and give MASSIVE VALUE and help people solve their problems in return for big money!

    The methods before quitting your job is to have a master plan; that plan is diary writing, lists, action plans and budget for materials for your business. Be prepared for a desolate lifestyle whist you put every once of energy into your business. When you have your own business, you are going to need a lot of solitude. I

    I live very cheap $700 all utilities apartment and no car. I do grocery delivery. I walk or ride my bike to the gym. I am not successful but I make money online and can do what ever I want to do. Googles panda/penguin really hit me over the head and to be honest I am over it. I never messed with ppc because I always figured if the traffic was so good why would people sell it. Well I was wrong and wished I jumped on when Facebook just came out. Thanks for your videos.

    at 6:55 "dont buy new"...i'm buying 2nd hand clothes, shoes A-brands (Tommy, Hugo Boss etc) at fleamarkets which still looks great for 10% of shop price. Me and my girlfriend eat cheap, but delicous once per month.. for like €15. I cut down on quantity, without sacrificing QUALITY. Also, i learnt to cook. Delcious healthy fitness food for €2 per dinner.
    Its a balance of.. living cheap, and generous to ppl around you.

    I liked the part you said about working on your plan while you are at the job you hate! I've done it from time to time and sometimes felt guilty about it but, I think this has motivated me to re-evaluate where I can put in more time on my plan while at my sucky job. How did you make time at your sucky job to do this? More importantly how did you not get caught?

    I stopped showing to my job i felt it deteriorating my own mind my self and my life, I’ve been going to other job interviews though that would make me decent money but it’s about being free from this thing. i eventually want to have my own UA-cam channel encouraging men to break away from shy behaviors to eat right and stay active and get anything you want. Or open my own gym with correct influentials on life. At the same time that’s not much of a backbone of a business. I want the women man more than anything I never really spoiled myself with them as much as I should of. I have high above average looks from experience (girls circle my car asking for a kiss or random girls come up to me and kiss me on the cheek) and it drives me crazy not getting what I want and have to continue to go to work everyday. I can’t quite figure how to free myself from this thing I feel I hold way more power than tucked away at a job. But the journey starts over again ONE more time I will get a 9-5 luckily I’m a truck driver so it’s quite easy to pick up a job and I will get a weekend job at a restaurant making tips and I will follow this plan and look forward to joining you on the other side. I wish I can contact you more man is there any way you have an email or something or we can talk through videos. What kept you sane when you were working all that time were you working out? Women in your life? Let me know I’m interested

    How can you quit your job the right way when you are constantly sexually harassed? Or when you have filed an EEO case, and reached out to every source there is but your a government worker and nobody wants to help you? Or finding out an employee was brutally physically attacked for reporting an incident? so...can you tell me the RIGHT way to quit your job?

      Number one do what this bloke advocates then flick your middle finger at the boss and yell ... See ya suckers ! That what I did . 16 years ago , I was forty , four children at high school wife not working and I threw my $55000 job in to do a Airconditioning apprenticeship with half the wage . It was a struggle for first 3 years Eventually went on my own and haven't looked back . Anyone can do it , just have to have the vision and courage ( hard work at first ) but boy is it worth the freedom . You keep all the money , pick which days and hours you want to work .

    1. I want to start my own business ( real estate broking). It may be on solo basis or in a casual partnership with a person I know.
    1. Planning to quit my current job (builder line)as its mentally n physically stressful n draining me, plus the work hours r horrible and is completely field work- weekly off only on Wednesday- good pay
    2. Would be joining another job into same field - real estate industry with some job security and weekly off on sat n Sunday so that I would be able to focus better on my side business- decent pay
    3. Would be implementing all your strategies from there on
