Brilliant, especially as it is being performed outside. Very good recording. What a band!!!!!!!! As a New Zealander and having played in A Grade for 40 years, I am in awe of your English bands. You guys certainly set the standard. You cornet players have beautiful sounds.
Of all the performances of this march circulating on UA-cam this has to be the tightest, stylistic, musical, best performance out there. Good Job guys and gals
I love Paul’s dancing on sop , never saw anyone throwing a few shapes to knight Templar before…. Mind you , if I was playing sop for Dyke on Whit Friday , I reckon Id be unable to contain myself too !!
And if said 'Baby Childs' who I will call David, was to have my seat, I would be able to walk away with my head held very high knowing that I worked my backside off for the band, the seat, and the pride of being given the chance to sit in that position. I could also be proud that I performed well in the time I was there and would regret nothing.
@Luke Payne No, not a singer, but a slightly smaller cornet (for the musically minded - in the key of Eb). The soprano - or "sop" can be one of the most demanding instruments to play in a band. He (or she!) is the one with the red face, playing all those very high notes that soar over the band, and give it that special "sparkle".
Bloody hell. Viewing pleasure? You don't come and listen to a brass band performance to watch how the players move on stage, you come to listen to some class brass playing.
Yey i love black dyke brass my son used to play wuth black dyke now he is playing at London Philharmonic orchestra he finish his masters degree of music
its safe to say Gary, you put him in his place. Paul is the prime example of a member of the modern brass movement. I know many of us at the NYBBW love the music we play and why not enjoy playing it at the same time.
Having been a performer for over 40 years ,your behavior & apearance on stage or in public are as important as the music you present (no matter how excelleny) .
i totally agree , i myself play the euphonium and am grade 6 and i know just how difficult playing an instrument can be no one should ever knock anyone just because of jealousy
Tinners44?? Someone really doesn't like Paul Duffy and must be rather Jelous of the talent that he has. Brass Band Music suprisingly enough is about the music that is played and if the players are showing they are having a good time while creating this marvelous sound then that makes me enjoy it even more. Plus signing off a UA-cam message with your Title??? Really?? Paul well played good to see you enjoy what you do. Band.. once again.. Fantastic!
Not only was this an amazing performance, this thread is an example of one of the most fantastically successful TROLLS of all time - sadly everyone "bit" at the troll's comment, it must have made him very happy! :-(
So please feel free to put down your keyboard and pick up a brass instrument and show me, prove to me, and the other people who detest such juvenile behavior from someone behind an alias and a (most likely stained) keyboard, that you are in a position to even comment on Mr Duffy, then I might listen. Failing that, introduce yourself to me and the band in person some time, i'm sure we'd get one swimmingly!
Proof is in the pudding. It's the 'winning' performance. What's a bit of leg wobble btwn friends. After all, this isn't Strictly Come Dancing - they're being judged on their playing.
As regards your comment on defending friends, I am thankful i'm not one of yours as it seems you are fickle in such a case. I would still, 100%, defend any friends and colleagues such as I have here.
2024 & still 1 of the Best Performances of "Knight Templar" Well Done!

One of the greatest musical ensembles anywhere on a street near you. The magic of brass bands
I love Paul’s dancing on sop , never saw anyone throwing a few shapes to knight Templar before…. Mind you , if I was playing sop for Dyke on Whit Friday , I reckon Id be unable to contain myself too !!
Wow, to sound that good, standing outside, recorded by a video camera... Amazing. Great stuff.
Bravo! Still superb a decade after the performance. Well Done!

you can tell a great band when the entire back row of cornets move in sync when taking a breath, like at 2:03
The whole band takes a breath, as a phrase mark.
hehehe, i love paul duffy's dancing the whole time! sounds incredible.
The dancing sop guy probably sounds better while dancing than you do standing still. Let him love his music.
Andrew Davidson gotta love Paul Duffy

Got to love the brief slent at 3.38... Adds a sense of pride to the march.
Band contests are one of the few times of the year I am sad to live in London. I never appreciated them enough whilst growing up in the area.
Wonderful!
Heavenly!
4:14 well timed percussive foot stomp by the director! :)

In the US we have doughnuts on Friday!
Superb. Great tempo.
What a dude
Is that David Hoyle of Yorkshire Brass fame plying with the band?
In contrast to the below comments, the band sound ace
Is paul Duffy playing without music ??
Paul brought the groove to the stuffy
championship section ..

Do you all really miss "the percussion"? it's just not needed- COME ON!
Where is the percussion!?
dont need them
4:20 haha what a guy!
Sounds really awesome!

This comment section is like a shrine to all things bad about the Brass Band movement.
Is Bess still active??
