Yo, Eastern European MTA Player here. You're right, MTA is kinda "underground project". But unlike SAMP, MTA is more for car guys, than rpg/rp players. The first server you joined is "Drift Paradise" and it's most popular drift server in MTA, but many people (including me) dislikes this server for it's community being 8yo phonk jdm kids on ugly cars with 45 angle chamber, low quality car models, and level grind. The gem of MTA is small servers with ~20ppl online, who know eachother and just building stylish cars, making cool screenshots, and drifting around. Even I have good PC and steering wheel I still play MTA, because for me the physics is better than any AAA-arcade racing game, and it actually helped me getting into sims (at least it gave me understanding of steering, throttle etc while drifting). Also most of servers focus on quality, then quantity. Like, who needs so many cars in forza or GT with no tuning. On good mta serveres every car has so many thuning parts, you can't imagine. Also due the game being so old, it's really easy to make models for mta. You can just export a model from Asetto and import into MTA in like 15 minutes. Adding new bodykits is even faster. And, if you ask me, why not FiveM, gta5's physics sucks, the cars are too heavy and uncontrollable.
I remember going into anarchy servers and using some weird code in server that made any car you had bump into other and they would fly miles away. I also used bassboosted songs like the intro from monsters, inc. Or nirvana to annoy people Zombie servers were also cool😅
what about racing more than drifting servers? I tried the nfs one and there was not a single soul (only thing that can be done solo are pursuits, some of it is behind cooldowns and the other requires players to play like normal races)
